00:00Strike a dart on his podcast. No big whoop.
00:04Stefan, we're all just bored. That's why we're talking about Stefan Diggs on a boat.
00:09Do you agree with that, Keith?
00:09No, I don't. I mean, and I get the overall point.
00:13We were saying this right off the rip.
00:14Like, I don't think it's the end of the world, like what he had with him and all that stuff
00:19and just like being on a boat.
00:21But I do think when Mike Vrabel's first question is asked about it
00:24and he has to deal with it and just like time away from like any football type of topic,
00:29I don't know how you can look at it and say it's nothing.
00:32You know, like it's this video that's been picked up a million times.
00:35I don't think you like release the guy or anything.
00:37And who knows if there's even going to be like league penalties.
00:40But he's like one of your veteran guys that you brought in
00:42that I think you thought you wouldn't have to worry about anything.
00:44And like before he even plays a game, before he even plays like a full padded practice,
00:49you're already dealing with that.
00:51I think it's more the headache factor for Vrabel than it is like,
00:54oh, what's in peak cocaine?
00:55But Bedard brought up, and it wasn't in that clip, but a separate portion.
01:01He talked about the league really can't do anything with Steph Diggs.
01:05The league doesn't even care about street drugs.
01:09Case in point, Jarrell Pepper.
01:10Yeah, yeah, no, I don't think they do.
01:12So I don't think anything comes from the league.
01:14I saw Breer suggest that the reason Diggs wasn't here,
01:17and we talked about this in real time, whatever, Wednesday,
01:21whenever the story first came out, whether or not it was Vrabel who asked Diggs to stay away.
01:28That was his supposition?
01:29I highly doubt that, just judging on the way that Vrabel talked about it.
01:33But that's interesting to me.
01:34Like, are they that upset where they're like, don't even bother showing up?
01:37That doesn't ring true to me listening to Vrabel.
01:41Well, that doesn't ring true to me, but, you know, Breer's a plugged-in guy.
01:44Yeah, yeah.
01:45So, I don't know.
01:46I just, it's off, he's off to a bad start.
01:48I mean, if he asked him to stay away, then that is like a really bad start.
01:51Yeah, and look, he's off to a bad start.
01:55I don't think it's nothing.
01:56I don't think we're just bored.
01:57I think it is a story.
01:59But if you're asking me to predict the future, I think he's going to be on the team.
02:03I think he'll be back week four, certainly by week five, when they play Buffalo.
02:06And when he's on the field, he'll be productive.
02:08I mean, that would be my prediction.
02:09Yeah, you know, obviously I'm more worried about the knee than I am, you know,
02:12what he does on boats and things like that.
02:14But I think just it's one of these things that's become a topic for the Patriots,
02:18and Mike Vrabel has to deal with it.
02:21And you're like, you already have a room of guys that just were doing all the wrong things last year, right?
02:27And, again, varying degrees.
02:28Like, it's not like criminal things that they were doing, but it was just eye rolls and, like, head scratches.
02:33And you're like, what is this guy saying now?
02:35They ended up cutting a couple guys that, like, posted stuff on Instagram.
02:38Maybe not directly because of that, but it was all on the long line of stuff.
02:42Like, every one of those receivers.
02:43So now you bring in a guy that's played more games than everybody else,
02:46and now, like, he's doing stuff, too, that you're just like, oh, my God.
02:49With this?
02:50It's the kind of stuff you were hoping you weren't going to deal with as much with Mike Vrabel.
02:55It wasn't really on my radar with Diggs.
02:57Yelling at a quarterback, you know, showing up a coordinator or something in-game,
03:01demanding the ball.
03:02Like, that was all on my radar.
03:03Right.
03:03But, yeah, this kind of stuff really wasn't.
03:06So you can jump in on this.
03:07617-779-7937.
03:10Tom E. Curran was on WEI Afternoons yesterday.
03:14He joins us high noon every Tuesday on Jones & Keefe.
03:17Tommy Tuesday.
03:18Also Thursdays on WEI Afternoons.
03:20I thought he had some interesting thoughts on Drake May and his, well, inaccuracy and start to OTAs.
03:27Here's Curran yesterday.
03:28But he is having some wild misses.
03:31They're not near misses, and they're related to movement.
03:37He'll roll a little bit and throw from that kind of, like, a shortstop swinging at the first kind of platform,
03:45which is not ideal for perfect accuracy.
03:47But he does have accuracy with it.
03:50We've seen him make those throws.
03:51But there just seems to be a lot of them.
03:53I don't think it's a concern.
03:55Excuse me.
03:55I don't think it's a worry.
03:56It's certainly a concern if there's a regression to having sloppy mechanics because Alex Van Pelt spent an inordinate amount of time on those last year.
04:08Okay.
04:09So I don't know what that means.
04:10Does that mean Josh McDaniels isn't?
04:12Does that mean that it's just things that Drake May has to tighten up?
04:16But it goes beyond the picks is my point.
04:17Or at least what I would hold in on.
04:19It goes beyond, oh, it's just four interceptions, no big deal.
04:21While the guy's wildly inaccurate, he's skipping throws like a shortstop.
04:25Like, I don't like that.
04:27Now, this is where I think you're one of these you can teach accuracy people.
04:30Yes.
04:30Right?
04:31And there's been proof of it.
04:33I mean, Josh Allen, his first two years, even his second year where they were winning a bunch of games.
04:37I'm really more of an accuracy is overrated.
04:39Accuracy overrated.
04:39Oh, so not that you can teach it.
04:40No, I think it can.
04:42I think you kind of can, though.
04:43Like, in a weird way, you would think that's just something that you kind of have.
04:46But I think Josh Allen is proof of that.
04:50Even, like, Jalen Hurts.
04:51I feel like at one point, Jalen Hurts wasn't super accurate.
04:53And then now you're like, he's, like, pretty pinpoint.
04:55So maybe that's just something that's going to come later in his career.
04:58And, like, so maybe he will have some issues with accuracy in year two.
05:03But it doesn't mean you, like, write him off.
05:04Because, like, plenty of people, it'd be hilarious to dig up everything that was written and said about Josh Allen halfway through his second year.
05:11I think people were ready to move on from the guy.
05:13And now he's the best quarterback in the league.
05:15Oh, I mean, I was, I was, I don't want to say leading that charge.
05:18There were probably a lot of Bills fans leading that charge.
05:20But I didn't believe in Josh Allen early on in his career.
05:24And, yeah, I thought the inaccuracy would catch up to him.
05:26I thought he was too turnover prone.
05:28And he's cleaned a lot of that up.
05:29I mean, he'll still turn it over.
05:30Not as much last year.
05:31But, no, I mean, that's the kind of thing you can see out of some of these guys.
05:35617-779-7937.
05:37Now, this is Ray in Boston.
05:38Not to be confused, I don't think, with Ray in Cumberland, who I know is here.
05:41Hello, Ray.
05:45Hello?
05:46Hey, hi, Ray.
05:48Hey.
05:48Um, so, yeah, I just want to speak on the behalf of the New England fans.
05:52Like, I don't care what Steph Diggs does on a pole.
05:56Like, I don't care.
05:58My point I related to is, like, Lawrence Taylor during halftime was doing some pretty crazy stuff.
06:04I'm not going to say what it was on the radio for you guys' sake because I don't want to get dumped out of.
06:08But, yeah, what are we going to do, take Lawrence Taylor out of the Hall of Fame?
06:12Okay, well, I don't know if we're asking for that.
06:14But, Ray, do you care that he's not at OTAs?
06:18No, I don't care.
06:19Guy's a great football player.
06:21Apparently the Patriots care.
06:22But I also want to kind of just jump in on this Drake Ray thing.
06:25I'm like, yeah, it's got me real worried because last time I checked, they don't say, oh, Patrick Mahomes threw four interceptions and is skipping throws off in OTAs.
06:33Like, whether the receivers can get open or not, right?
06:35Like, that's one thing.
06:37It's like, man, these guys are clamped.
06:39Drake has nowhere to go with.
06:40Yeah, I agree with that to an extent.
06:43Like, I was talking about this with Wiggy earlier.
06:44He's like, oh, wow, it's OTAs.
06:46Like, we've read about guys with bad starts.
06:47I'm like, I don't remember reading too much about four interception days.
06:50No.
06:51Like, that's an especially bad day.
06:53And I also look at it differently.
06:54Like, an established guy, like the caller brought up Patrick Mahomes.
06:57Like, whatever.
06:57He could skip a throw in OTAs.
06:59Nobody would care.
06:59Like, if you're established, OTAs matter less.
07:02And so, I guess that's where when you go back to Steph Diggs, you're like, well, he himself is established.
07:06But is he established with this team?
07:07Is he established with this quarterback, right?
07:10Like, that's different.
07:11It's a different team.
07:12So, that's why I think you make the argument for Steph Diggs should be there.
07:15Yeah.
07:15I mean, look.
07:16I care that he's not at OTAs.
07:18Like, I don't really care about what happened on the boat.
07:21I care if he gets disciplined.
07:23Like, I care if the league has to step in and he can't be out there.
07:27But that's ultimately what I care about.
07:29Is he on the field?
07:30Is he out there?
07:30Is he going to be himself?
07:31And when the caller says he's a great player, well, he was.
07:35Yeah.
07:35He's coming back from an injury.
07:36He's going to be 32 in the middle of the year.
07:39So, I mean, he was a great player.
07:41No one's arguing that.
07:42Is he still going to be a great player?
07:44And is he doing everything it takes to get out on the field?
07:46Like, that would be my skepticism with this story.
07:50And that's why I care about it.
07:51Yeah.
07:51And I still don't know if it was a planned.
07:54Like, was he planning on missing this way before the video came out?
07:57Do you, listening to Vrabel, do you think it sounded like it was planned?
08:00No.
08:00It doesn't sound like it.
08:01I mean, I don't know.
08:02I'll talk about the saying I don't know.
08:03But it doesn't sound planned.
08:04No, but reading between the lines on Vrabel, it's impossible for me to know whether Vrabel told him to stay away.
08:11I think Vrabel would rather have him there.
08:13That's what I think.
08:14I don't think Vrabel asked him to stay away either.
08:17Vrabel sounded like he absolutely wanted him there.
08:19So, I agree with that.
08:20Yeah.
08:20So, I mean, they just got to get the guy out there.
08:22And, like, where this goes from here, I mean, I don't know.
08:25I mean, the knee is still the utmost important thing.
08:27Like, is he going to be ready week 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, regardless of what else, you know, he's been dealing with right now?
08:33Well, and we talked about this before, but, you know, Kendrick Bourne, and Diggs is a way better player, or at least was, and has been for his career.
08:41When Bourne came back last year, he didn't come back until October.
08:44Yeah.
08:44And when he came back, he wasn't the same player he was pre-injury.
08:48I mean, Bourne barely did anything.
08:49It was a horrible game today.
08:50He barely did anything last year.
08:51And he was even eased into it a little bit.
08:53And so, I'd expect some of that with Diggs when he comes back, which is why I can't just excuse away the offense not doing anything without Diggs out there.
09:01The caller's right.
09:02Ray in Boston's right.
09:03Like, he's still going to be throwing to Pop Douglas.
09:07He's still going to be throwing to, well, I guess Mack Hollins and Kyle Williams are newer guys.
09:12Maybe booty.
09:13Players like this.
09:14I hope not Javon Baker.
09:15I hope not Jalen Polk.
09:16But if Diggs isn't ready, and he's not rehabbing the way he should be, and he's not out there week 1, that's your receiving core.
09:22That stinks.
09:24It does stink.
09:24So, does he still get the receivers or bad excuse?
09:27If Diggs isn't playing.
09:28I'm not giving it to him, no.
09:29Yeah.
09:30But, it's pretty bad.
09:32Now, like, Mahomes.
09:33I mean, let's see if Williams can play.
09:36But maybe if Williams can't and Diggs is way behind schedule, maybe.
09:39But not early in the year, especially with Diggs, I assume, coming back around the beginning of October.
09:44And, like, Jaden Daniels had Terry McLaurin and not much else after that.
09:47Right.
09:47Right, so if you're able to put up those kind of numbers and win that many games with Jess McLaurin, that kind of hurts the argument for giving me excuses about Steph Diggs.
09:57See, a quidneck going out for a sail there.
09:58That's a big boat.
09:59That is a big boat.
10:01Or that ship.
10:02No, that's a sailboat.
10:05That's what I'd call that.
10:06I heard a...
10:07That's good.
10:08I think you'll be able to see it on Twitch.
10:10Oh, yeah.
10:11Oh, yeah.
10:11You should be able to.
10:11The people from the Intrepid stopped by.
10:13I don't know that Wiggy was willing to go out on that.
10:16Wiggy said he's more of a yacht guy, not so much of a...
10:19Is that right?
10:20Like, in a parked yacht?
10:21He's more of a yacht guy.
10:22He's not, like, an America's Cup style.
10:25Because he doesn't like the tilting of the boat, which I was kind of with him on.
10:28So he gets seasick, is what you're saying.
10:29I think you can wear one of those little bracelets.
10:30I think he's afraid of falling in the ocean, which I wouldn't really want to do either.
10:33I don't want to tip off a boat.
10:34I like a good swim, though.
10:35Look, I like a soak as much as anybody.
10:38Yeah, you were there this morning.
10:39I took one this morning.
10:40I'm not trying to fall into the ocean off, like, a schooner.
10:43I'm not trying to do that.
10:43That's exciting.
10:44That's the equidneck.
10:46Yeah, yeah.
10:46No, it's out for a little sail.
10:48Is the eight rings plus one dock somewhere?
10:50I don't know.
10:50I don't know.
10:51That's a good question.
10:52We got our eyes out for Steph Diggs' boat.
10:53We got our eyes out for the, yeah, the one plus eight rings.
10:57Oh, yeah, one plus eight rings.
10:58Yeah, very, very classy name.
10:59Yeah, for sure.
11:00So, Jonathan Keefe at the Lobster Bar in Newport.
11:03It is the Greg Hill Show Roadshow After Show.
