00:08senior citizen at a goldsmith shop in Malacca. The accused made the plea when the charges were
00:14read to him in the Ayer Kero Sessions Court on Friday. The offense took place at the goldsmith
00:19shop in Kampung, Jawa at about 11 a.m. on May 22. The accused was charged for robbery and
00:26voluntarily causing hurt to 70-year-old Kokim Lai. The offense carries a maximum jail term of 20 years
00:33with a fine or caning upon conviction. The prosecution requested the court to set bail
00:40at 20,000 ringgit to which the defense team did not object. The court then fixed June 10 for
00:47sentencing. The lawyer representing the accused told reporters that his client's family declined
00:52to post bail as they wanted him to learn his lesson. He said the accused had been trying
00:57to repay a debt of about 200,000 ringgit, which his girlfriend allegedly owed to three illegal
01:03money lenders.
