00:00I'm speaking with Hannah from Derby Market Hall. How are you doing, Hannah?
00:03I'm really good, thank you.
00:05Great. So you heard speak about the amazing Market Hall, which opens on the Saturday, the 24th of May.
00:12You cited...
00:13I can't wait. It's been a long time in the coming.
00:17Anyone who knows how long it's taken this renovation to come to fruition will know that.
00:22We are just buzzing about the building, what it's looking like, what it's going to mean for the city,
00:27and we cannot wait to throw those doors open and welcome everyone to the building on Saturday.
00:32Great. What are you most excited about?
00:34Which other a bit of the stalls that you can't wait to sample, try out?
00:38I think I could possibly end up the fattest market hall manager ever because the food in here is out of this world.
00:46We have got food traders from all over the world shining a light on their food, their cultures,
00:53but also being proud to be from Derby, Derbyshire and the local area.
00:58So absolutely, the food here is going to be amazing.
01:01Right.
01:01That said, the dry goods traders that we've got here, the pop-up stalls we've got here,
01:06these traders are amazing and there really is something for everybody.
01:10So if food is your thing, we've got something for you.
01:13If gifts and things to buy are for you, then we've absolutely got that too.
01:18Now, is this also an event space, Hannah?
01:21Yes. So as we say, we are more than a market.
01:24So we have got this amazing building.
01:27It really is a wonderful space and absolutely, we hope to put on a huge range of activities.
01:33The week coming up, we've got tons.
01:35Live music, walking acts, entertainment, workshops, we've got the lot.
01:40Which are friendly too?
01:41It is. So fully accessible and we've worked really hard with the council's access hub
01:46to ensure that it's accessible as it can be.
01:48And that's something that we will continue to be working on.
01:51We'd really like to make sure we're not just meeting the minimum,
01:53we're going above and beyond and to ensure we're accessible for everybody,
01:57including our furry, furry four...
01:59Or playground friends.
02:00Yes.
02:02So there's a week's long events, what's going on?
02:07Like an events programme.
02:08So we really wanted to make sure that we were showing everybody
02:11what an amazing event space it could be.
02:14So from the minute we open the doors at 11 o'clock
02:17and we are led in by a wonderful brass band,
02:20there's going to be something on for everybody.
02:22As I say, we know it's half turn, so there's family-friendly activities going on.
02:26There'll be people walking around, walking acts.
02:30There's a bit of everything for everybody.
02:32The good stuff.
02:32All the good stuff.
02:33Anyone who knew the market hall from before,
02:35those are the faces I can't wait to see when they walk through.
02:39In its previous skies, it was a lot darker.
02:42Yeah.
02:43A bit more of a maze to walk through.
02:45Now the building has been restored to its former glory.
02:49All the window panes in the ceiling have been opened up.
02:52The light floods in.
02:54And I think people will just get a sense of what a beautiful building it is.
02:58What a great space.
02:59And it's now a really light, vibrant, modern place to come.
