Here's today's bulletin with the county's new Reform administration vowing to improve Derbyshire's potholed roads within a year - and a quirky location for a new sandwich bar and deli
Transcript
00:00Here's today's Derbyshire Times video bulletin.
00:04There are 66,000 Derbyshire potholes to be repaired,
00:08but the county's highways will be noticeably better within a year,
00:12Reform's new leadership has claimed. At Reform UK's first meeting
00:16in charge of Derbyshire County Council this week, they faced early questions
00:20on what the public could expect to see in terms of road repairs.
00:24Potholes were one of the key topics of debate during this year's local elections,
00:28Reform UK did not have a manifesto pledge on how to deal with this issue.
00:32However, Councillor Charlotte Hill, who is the new Reform Cabinet member for
00:36Potholes, Highways and Transport, and who works at National Highways, said
00:40the administration would seek to immediately accelerate the quantity and improve
00:44the quality of the works they are currently doing. Her role, overseeing the county's
00:48role, now includes a specific reference to potholes, unlike
00:52previous administrations, in a bid from Reform to highlight leadership roles linked
00:56to their key priorities. Councillor Hill said,
01:00We will be setting out detailed plans to fix the county's potholes
01:02once we have had the opportunity to look at
01:04the state of our roads, current plans and
01:06available funding. I fully recognise
01:08the need to improve both the quality
01:10and the quantity of highways repairs.
01:12A Derbyshire mum of three, who long dreamed of opening her own snack bar, has found an unusual venue
01:20which seems perfect for her new venture. Carly Booth, who is 50, was hunting for premises when she
01:26spotted that the borough council was offering the lease for disused WCs in Ilkeston.
01:30She and her partner have now set to work transforming the loos at Gallows Inn's fields into a swish eatery.
01:36The couple aim to open their new sandwich bar and deli, which will be called Gallows Grub, in around five weeks.
