00:30Looks quite like a fairy tale here, very different to Delhi.
00:51Tucked away in India's northern state of Himachal Pradesh, the Kangra Valley.
01:00Home to Dharamshala's cricket stadium, one of the highest in the world.
01:05Thousands of acres of tea plantations and the fifth checkpoint.
01:13Are you tea drinkers?
01:15Melvin loves his tea. I am, mate, yeah.
01:18Very tea demanding.
01:20After 33 days on the road and almost 10,000 kilometres raced so far...
01:26Oh, my gosh, that's actually the nicest green tea. Really? Yeah.
01:29..a chance to take stock.
01:33Are you having the same problems that I'm having with my older brother,
01:37with your older sister? What problems?
01:38Well, yeah, well, yeah.
01:40I'm just trying to figure out what problems with that.
01:43It's more communication.
01:44Sometimes I just want things to be clear and communicated.
01:47And we're also getting to know each other again in a park for quite a long time.
01:51We've had years and years apart, or we've missed 40 years of it.
01:54I forgot what a soddy can be.
01:58And he's forgotten what a little sod I am.
02:01Yeah.
02:02But now, five legs in, I'm thinking, we're OK, that's working.
02:06It's great to hear how they're bonding.
02:09It can be done, and I feel like we can take that inspiration moving forward.
02:14And we're still working on it anyways.
02:16Maybe we can't say things yet, but they're coming.
02:18They're coming.
02:21Hello.
02:21You too.
02:23How are you?
02:25Three teams have made it to the checkpoint,
02:27with only nine and a half hours between them.
02:30For the first time, Caroline and Tom have taken the lead.
02:34Haven't they done well?
02:36She is going for it.
02:38We found it really tough, actually.
02:41But it was all worth it, seeing our name at the top.
02:43We actually were really surprised to be first.
02:46Yeah, yeah, yeah.
02:47And then the instant worry of how do we stay here?
02:49Yeah!
02:51I know exactly what you mean.
02:52We've all felt it.
02:53I mean, we don't have many legs left, you know?
02:56Hopefully Finn and Sean that ain't too far behind.
02:58Where do we think they are?
03:04Oh, watch up this hill.
03:09Left to right.
03:10There's too many turning in.
03:1233 hours behind first place.
03:15There's not a lot of people around.
03:17He's helping us.
03:18OK, we'll go.
03:20Are you coming?
03:21The final team check in.
03:27I must say hello.
03:28Hello.
03:29Ready?
03:30Please sign in over leave.
03:34Oh, really far behind.
03:40Nothing we can do now.
03:43It is our first time being last, which is,
03:46yeah, it's not the best feeling.
03:4824 hours behind third.
03:50Not nice to look at, is it?
03:53First full leg and injured didn't go very well.
03:56We've, well, me especially, I've struggled.
03:59I can't deal with crowds and noises and all of that stuff very well.
04:04And then when things go wrong, I basically just shut down.
04:12I'm so gutted.
04:13I can't help but be disappointed in myself.
04:20I don't know, I always feel like what I do isn't good enough,
04:25and I feel like I need to do more and improve more.
04:31I don't know, I don't know, I don't know why I'm that way.
04:36I just want everyone to be proud of me.
04:43And I struggle to be proud of myself most of the time.
04:50Don't want to just be second in the first leg and then that's it.
04:53That's the highlight.
05:09It's fast, you're early.
05:115.13am.
05:13Good morning.
05:14Good morning.
05:14Good morning.
05:15This is for you.
05:16Thank you very much.
05:17You ready?
05:18Mm-hmm.
05:19Sassangir, all right?
05:22OK.
05:23Lovely.
05:24Let's go find it.
05:24Thank you very much.
05:27Sassangir.
05:28Oh my golly.
05:29It's quite a long way.
05:331,900 kilometres to the south,
05:36on the southern tip of Gujarat, the sixth checkpoint, Sassangir.
05:42The village is the gateway to the Gujarat National Park.
05:50Dry, deciduous forest with large stretches of grassland
05:54and the last remaining habitat for the endangered Asiatic lion.
06:02It's quite a long way.
06:04I'm afraid all I want to do is race, race, race and increase our lead.
06:09Obviously we're first, we want to hold on to it.
06:11But my main aim is to experience what India has to offer,
06:15because we're never going to be here again.
06:17I don't want to just race, race, race.
06:19Right.
06:23To reach the sixth checkpoint,
06:25the teams will need to navigate four of India's western states,
06:30including the country's largest, Rajasthan.
06:33Coined the land of kings after the Rajput and Mughal dynasties,
06:40who left a legacy of magnificent forts and palaces.
06:48Teams could choose a more rural route,
06:50which weaves through the dry expanse of the great Indian desert.
06:54Or they could go via Rajasthan's brightly painted cities,
07:01well-connected, to assist their many visiting tourists.
07:08I think this is a once-in-a-lifetime going through a desert.
07:11It's a completely different landscape, but I haven't seen many deserts.
07:14It's very rural.
07:16Now I'm happy to avoid the major cities
07:18and have a calmer way of getting there as quickly as possible.
07:22I'd like to do it. OK.
07:26I think we make a very strong team.
07:28You're very determined.
07:29You're very keen to push on and move forward,
07:32whereas I'm probably a bit more laid back.
07:35I'll teach you to slow down a little bit and appreciate stuff.
07:38Yeah.
07:38Can you call us a taxi to the bus station?
07:41As we're getting towards the end of the race,
07:43the decisions are harder.
07:46I'm trusting Thomas, I suppose.
07:49Come on, let's go.
07:50Now he's experiencing more of life.
07:54I just love being with him.
07:55I love his enthusiasm.
07:57I love his carefree attitude and want a little bit of that for myself,
08:02to see life more through his eyes.
08:05We're going.
08:06Tom's gamble to venture into less explored territory,
08:11heading south through the Thar desert.
08:14We're trying to go to Jodhpur.
08:16We need a nice sleep of us.
08:18We'll take that one.
08:192,800.
08:20What time do we arrive?
08:217,000.
08:22Thomas has been really throwing himself into it today.
08:25He's finding out all we need to know.
08:27We're going to get Jodhpur there.
08:29I know, I know.
08:29It's really good.
08:31Halfway to the checkpoint.
08:32We would be covering the biggest distance now.
08:35That's incredible.
08:35That's too far.
08:36Wow.
08:38As Caroline and Tom resume their race...
08:45Look at this view.
08:47It's not even real.
08:49It would be nice being out here in the mountains.
08:5333 hours behind them,
08:55Finn and Sean Ed remain paused in McLeod Gange.
08:59When I'm crying, because I definitely will cry again.
09:01I know.
09:02As much as I probably want to be babied and be like,
09:04Oh, it's okay.
09:06Tell me to just get a grip.
09:08Oh, that's a bit harsh.
09:09I can't really do that.
09:10I do need to wise up.
09:12I'm a big girl.
09:14I think it'd be nice if we can now both work together.
09:17It's fine for her to get overwhelmed,
09:18but maybe if she can kind of push through it and make decisions with me,
09:22I think we'll get a lot further.
09:24There's been a lot of emotions in India, I think,
09:27but we are still here, and I think we are getting better.
09:30If you told me last year, in one year you'll be every day
09:34not knowing where we're actually going to sleep tonight,
09:36that's something I would have thought I would struggle with,
09:38but I actually really am enjoying that.
09:40You're learning new things about yourself with this.
09:44It's going to be a challenge to catch up, but it's not impossible.
09:47I think we can do it, and I think we will do it.
09:49We've learned anything can happen.
09:53Oh, my shit.
09:53Oh.
09:57Hello.
09:58Are they even real?
09:59Can I try feed?
09:59Oh, was that far?
10:08It's manic, isn't it?
10:09Manic, yeah.
10:10It's manic.
10:13Second to depart.
10:16Ryan and Melvin have made it to Amritsar in Punjab.
10:19I do like the idea of going through the desert, if I'm honest.
10:23It's something I've always fancied.
10:24I think we'll be in the middle of nowhere,
10:26but as a crow flies, that's pretty straightforward.
10:29I think it'll be great.
10:31We would like to get to Jodhpur tonight.
10:33It's better for India 8pm.
10:35OK.
10:36Of 1,500 per person.
10:37OK.
10:38I guess it's a long way, Brian.
10:41With their first connection south towards the great Indian desert booked,
10:46there's time for the brothers to explore.
10:49How beautiful is that?
10:50It's so lovely, isn't it?
10:54Founded in 1577 by the fourth Sikh guru Ram Dass,
11:00Amritsar is the holiest city in Sikhism.
11:04Its most sacred shrine, the Golden Temple.
11:09Got to wear a headscarf.
11:13There they are.
11:13Should do it.
11:14Just look like a twag.
11:16Yeah.
11:16I mean, it's quite an impressive building, isn't it?
11:22Following the tradition of selfless service known as Seva,
11:26the temple provides 100,000 free meals a day,
11:30giving Amritsar the accolade, the city where no one goes hungry.
11:37I'm desperately in need of the lumel.
11:40I've got stomach gramps.
11:42If I can find a sit-down toilet,
11:44I think you might be all right.
11:45And then my stomach might go down.
11:47It's in spasms at the moment.
11:50OK, let's go then.
11:51All right?
11:51Yeah.
11:54There is a part of me saying,
11:56I don't go on a bus today, Brian.
11:58Stay in a hotel overnight.
12:00If we do that, we're going to be 24 hours behind everybody else.
12:04We can't afford to do it.
12:06We'll battle on.
12:08We'll be bottom of the pile if we miss, if I miss this bus.
12:19We just come from the mountains and here it's so flat already.
12:22Yeah, we're going so fast.
12:25Leaving the checkpoint four hours after Brian and Melvin,
12:28Elizabeth and Letitia are also arriving in Amritsar.
12:32Oh, careful. Don't do that.
12:33No, it's better.
12:35After two back-to-back buses,
12:37they're searching for their third connection
12:39to drive them south to the pilgrimage town of Pushkar.
12:44Hello. We have a bus ticket.
12:46Bus need.
12:47OK. OK.
12:50Is this it? Mostly.
12:51I don't know who you need to ask.
12:52Oh, we should go and say hi.
12:59So, shall I make them jump?
13:00No.
13:01No, no, no, no, no.
13:02There's the girls.
13:03Hey, guys.
13:05Are you all right?
13:06Or somebody else.
13:06Don't do it.
13:07We've had the day here.
13:08You go to the temple?
13:09Yeah. It's a beautiful place, but he ain't feeling very well.
13:13No, I've got the jelly belly.
13:14Oh, you and me. Oh, jelly belly.
13:16They're going into the desert then, I presume.
13:18Oh, no, no, no, not desert.
13:19We're going to Jodhpur.
13:21Oh, Jodhpur.
13:22Competition.
13:23We've just done it.
13:23Oh, is that it?
13:24Come on, man.
13:25Right, we've got to go.
13:26Right.
13:27OK, good luck.
13:28Good luck, guys.
13:28I wasn't even expecting to see anybody.
13:31We closed the gap, kind of.
13:33It's good seeing someone ahead rather than someone behind.
13:37They're very smart the girls are.
13:39They're smart cookies.
13:40We're in competition mode.
13:41We need to lie, cheat, and steal.
13:44Well, not steal, but lie and cheat.
13:48I don't think we've done anything wrong on the legs so far.
13:51We managed to book a bus out tonight.
13:53I don't think we could have done anything else.
13:56Brian and Melvin are living the luxury of life.
13:59The exclusively luxurious life.
14:02Oh, look at ours.
14:04Look, we've got tape on the front.
14:06Oh, gosh.
14:10All right?
14:11Yeah.
14:12OK.
14:12Wait till the girls, bro.
14:14Yeah, she's waving.
14:18Being ill in India is not fun, but Tom and Caroline have overtaken us,
14:22so we need to try and catch up and get first.
14:27I would say I'm very ambitious.
14:29I want to succeed.
14:30I agree.
14:30We both have that ability to push ourselves, haven't we?
14:35Yeah.
14:36I don't think I've ever given up on anything I've ever tried.
14:38No, we don't give up.
14:46It's probably the most important leg for us.
14:48A lot of catching up to do, so...
14:50Yeah.
14:51The last team to depart the checkpoint, Finn and Seanhead,
14:56needing to close the 33-hour gap on the race leaders.
15:00Shall I tell you what I'm thinking?
15:01Yeah.
15:02Quickest route.
15:03It's an in-and-out job.
15:04We get to the places we need to go, short stops and go again.
15:08All the other teams know we're so far behind.
15:10But hopefully their luck runs out now and ours kicks in.
15:15Well, I think we need to go to places that are very well connected.
15:18I know it's through big cities and I'm not going to like that,
15:21but it's probably better to stick on these well-travelled routes.
15:27The couple's plan.
15:28Back-to-back transport along the tourist trail.
15:33We want to find maybe like an overnight transport
15:34that'll get us as far as we can today.
15:36That'll be best-case scenario.
15:39Bus service.
15:42Do buses go from Chandigarh to Jaipur?
15:45Yes.
15:45What is the furthest we can get tonight towards Jaipur?
15:51Is there a bus tonight?
15:52Everywhere.
15:53We book.
15:54Thank you very much.
15:58We're moving, which is a very good start.
16:01We have onwards transport out.
16:04We are going.
16:06I think we will catch her.
16:07850 kilometres south,
16:13Jodhpur, called the Blue City for its houses,
16:17decorated by the priestly Brahmin caste,
16:20to distinguish their social superiority.
16:23On its outskirts, Salavas village,
16:30where Caroline and Tom have arrived.
16:34Namaste.
16:35Namaste.
16:36Namaste.
16:36Namaste.
16:39Oh, wow.
16:40Oh, thank you.
16:41They will work and stay with the Prajapats,
16:44and they're cooperative of 48 families.
16:46This is so cool.
16:48Do you guys live here?
16:49It's a home.
16:50We have 21 members in the house.
16:5321 members?
16:54You will meet all of them.
16:56This is my father's turban.
16:5710 metres long.
17:00And why do you wear a turban?
17:02My father is the boss of the house.
17:11This is very much a working village.
17:13I'm very nervous to try and not break one,
17:15because I can imagine they're very brittle.
17:17You need to be very careful.
17:20This whole village is like an arty village,
17:22and all the families help to make everything.
17:25Like, this is a pottery family,
17:27so they're making water jugs,
17:29and then you've got other, like carpenter families,
17:32and it's just a really nice community of everyone
17:34who works together and helps each other out.
17:37Being a labourer on a building site to do their job.
17:41So that means you are actually a hard worker.
17:43I prefer being outside and working, like, with my hands,
17:46rather than in an office.
17:47Yeah, that's true.
17:48Probably similar to everyone in this village.
17:51We are connected with the nature.
17:52More interesting.
17:53And it's good for the health as well.
17:55Yes, yeah, yeah.
17:56Because our body is moving.
17:57For me, my hobby comes in my job.
17:58That's what I'm looking to find.
18:01Hopefully, one day.
18:03For generations, Mr. Prajapat's family
18:06have specialised in crafting durries.
18:09Traditional cotton rugs.
18:11Once supplying the palaces of Maharajas,
18:14today, their traditional manufacturing method prevails.
18:19Oh, my golly, Thomas.
18:21Wow!
18:23Gorgeous.
18:24Sit.
18:25This one.
18:27This one, and this one.
18:30There.
18:30Oh, my God, you can't even get one strand wrong, can you?
18:37It looks so difficult.
18:39Can I do left?
18:40No, no, this one.
18:40Oh, oh.
18:42I don't know if I can do that.
18:43Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
18:45Mm.
18:46Yeah, good, good, good.
18:46I struggle with my right hand.
18:54Yeah.
18:55In this work, you need to be both-handed.
18:57Must use this hand.
18:59Oh, I was born with cerebral palsy.
19:03That's fine.
19:05I'd love to try and use it, right?
19:06I would just do a bad job.
19:07I don't want to mess it up, and it's a nice carpet.
19:09That's all.
19:10I mean, if you're doing well in that hand, then it's fine.
19:13Am I doing well?
19:14I don't want to do well in that hand.
19:16I don't want to do well in that hand.
19:17I don't want to do well in that hand.
19:18I don't want to do well in that hand.
19:19I don't want to do well in that hand.
19:20He's very strict teacher, eh?
19:22That's good.
19:22He has to be.
19:24That's genuinely the first time that I've openly said
19:27that I've got cerebral palsy, and his reaction was so
19:31anticlimactic in such a good way.
19:33He was just like, oh, OK.
19:36And it turned out that it didn't really matter.
19:40You're getting the hang of it.
19:41I think so.
19:42He's a really good teacher.
19:44I guess it's the start of breaking down a barrier in my own head,
19:47and it's nice to see that finally happening.
19:51No, I'm really enjoying it.
19:52Yes, that's important.
19:53It's great.
19:54I'm loving it.
19:56It was quite a revelation.
19:58He actually came out and said to a total stranger,
20:01I've got cerebral palsy.
20:03I'm really proud of him.
20:05How long does it take to know exactly how to do this?
20:08Three to four years.
20:09Three to four years.
20:10Thomas seems to have rediscovered a driving force.
20:15He seems to be more mature.
20:17How lovely that he is finding his feet.
20:20It's just lovely to be around him at the moment.
20:23You are doing a good job.
20:24I might get into carpet making at home.
20:32Just 19 kilometres north.
20:36Feeling any better?
20:37Brian and Melvin are closing in on the blue city.
20:42Still a bit of stomach ache.
20:44I'm more concerned with getting on to the next part of the journey.
20:51Landscapes change to green fields, trees.
20:54It is flat, a bit like Lincolnshire in the sun.
21:03190 kilometres to the east.
21:07This cow's on a mission.
21:08Look at all the colours.
21:10It's quite colourful there too.
21:11Elizabeth and Letitia have stopped off in Pushkar, one of India's oldest towns.
21:22Tomorrow, we want to go to Jodhpur.
21:25Private taxi, like Moshima, 4,500.
21:284,500.
21:29Can we do like 3,500?
21:32No, because this is 440 kilometres.
21:343,800 and we can shake hands.
21:37Ah, lovely.
21:40You are getting more than English.
21:44OK, bye-bye.
21:48Securing a direct transfer tomorrow...
21:52Look at that lake.
21:55I think also just even mountains over back too.
21:57Yeah.
21:58..provides them with an opportunity to explore Pushkar's sacred lake.
22:03I think they wanted to take our shoes off here.
22:05Gosh, I haven't even painted my toenails.
22:07It is said it was formed by Lord Brahma, the Hindu god of creation.
22:12During a battle, petals from a lotus flower fell from his hand.
22:17And as they touched the ground, holy water rose up.
22:20Every day, religious ceremonies are held on the banks of the lake,
22:29including Puja rituals.
22:32A chance to honour family and loved ones
22:35by making offerings by making offerings to deities and ancestors.

23:19My sister, she tries to talk about emotions,
23:24talk about emotions which it's not my specialty and i don't like it at all
23:33a lot of things are unsaid on my part anyway
23:46how did you find the ceremony and it definitely made me reflect on family i feel
23:51and i am actually very grateful i think we're always kind of there for each other
23:57yeah i feel like now but i feel like there was a moment where support wasn't present really
24:05when we lost the family house i just remember being in a car driving somewhere seeing if we
24:11can stay there you just had either one or two bags and had to part with a lot of stuff
24:17yeah i remember feeling so bad how sudden the move was for you
24:29i had some kind of inkling there was something going on
24:32i didn't think it was going to be news in the house but in 2008 with the whole economic crisis
24:40my dad went out of work in construction
24:45in 2012 we had to pack our things and see where we're gonna go basically
24:52i just felt ashamed about it and embarrassed yeah i think that's what i feel like bad about i kind of
25:03run away i didn't experience the hardest times that you guys felt
25:07i was already over 18 so they weren't gonna you know house me so i went to italy
25:19i was only like 14 so i felt like i was just going through it by myself really
25:27i definitely needed someone to talk to for me it felt like he just suddenly left
25:35it was hard for me to hear i didn't really have anybody to talk to
25:39my reaction to hearing that is guilt but i kind of just tried to do
25:44like what i could at that time was that your decision to leave well i felt like there was no
25:54space for me anymore my space in england wasn't yeah there anymore and yeah i didn't really know how
26:01you felt anyway you know feeling like you didn't have a place when you came back
26:07oh this is probably the most i've actually
26:15my insides i'm trying i feel so good talking about this so good
26:24i've opened up emotionally today i think more than ever some weight has been lifted off my shoulders and
26:30and i do feel a lot lighter i do feel you know i'm glad we are talking about it and is is overdue really you know
26:45we are getting past the hard bit i feel like it'll be one of many conversations we'll probably have you know
26:51as three teams continue to head south through rajistan let's get on our way
27:22oh carline and tom are the first to cross into gujarat i think i've worked out my single favorite
27:29thing to do in india what's that and it's just a way that people making a connection in amdabad we've
27:37seen an experience possibly with some work as well at a desert lodge neither of us have ever been to a
27:44proper desert
27:56so
28:01hello he just got out and had a little prayer and then got back in and went back on our way
28:08i mean you've got to respect it i do but i've never seen it yeah yeah it's amazing uh i like that
28:14and 650 kilometers behind i think today's aim is to get to udaipur by bus or train but that was faster
28:30yeah
28:31and they're on the hunt for another long distance bus to propel them forward
28:45sleeper um yeah cheapest one when does it arrive 5 30 we have two tickets yeah to 1800 to double sleep
28:521800 perfect we've literally arrived and we're leaving
28:55that one if you'd like i hope she'll like it little three bus cake date
29:08date oh oh my gosh cake thanks i've been cake deprived
29:19i love cake for breakfast i've nearly stuffed it all down already
29:28okay wow this cake's work this is a magic cake honestly it is isn't it
29:32oh scott are you okay there's been many points where i've thought i could not handle india
29:45it is already a big thing for me to just even still be here but i think if we were able to catch
29:51up with three more teams now it'd be surprising for a lot of people whilst the young couple refuel
29:59yeah two teams have made it to the largest desert in india
30:07the thar
30:13crikey some of them are big aren't they absolutely uh ideal i mean the view now is absolutely beautiful
30:22it's just beautiful
30:23it's just beautiful
30:27whoa
30:31stretching for 200 000 square kilometers across the subcontinent
30:37hello
30:38this is amazing
30:41it's a haven for biodiversity including 141 species of bird and human settlements dating back tens of thousands
30:51of years
30:54today with over 16 million inhabitants it's the most densely populated desert in the world
31:01i can see one yeah yeah i got them there oh i've got them yeah i got them amazing place
31:09they're gorgeous animals oh that is lovely actually to see that in that setting
31:13so silent within the desert a salt marsh known as the little ran of kutch
31:23home to the critically endangered indian wild ass
31:26how many do they think are left about 3 000 animals is that rules yeah but you will not see this animal anywhere in the world
31:40they can go over 70 kilometers an hour
31:45extremely fast much faster than a horse yes
31:49a special moment magical i think they're just truly truly wild
31:59and here we are in their life and it's just beautiful
32:03hello
32:11thank you very good
32:12and you're beautiful
32:15it's an amazing sight in it
32:17hello
32:20430 kilometers north of them in the desert village of rajpora
32:26well you don't get it any fresher than that mate do you
32:30brian and melvin are on hand at a camel dairy farm
32:37oh that's lovely
32:42pull squeeze pull squeeze yeah pull squeeze
32:46squeeze pull no pull squeeze i think
32:51i think you're getting me now i'm not i'm getting some in the pond i'm not doing it as well as the
32:55other gentlemen but we're getting some the region is home to a community of rikas
33:01nomadic herders who have been shepherding camels for centuries a duty believed to have been assigned
33:07to them by the hindu god lord shiva i'll show you how to do it properly go on then
33:13not as easy as it looks
33:14ah it's easy look at this
33:16come on come on
33:19there you go look this is technique
33:21i've got twice as much as you did
33:23well i don't think you did
33:24that's a big term thank you my friend
33:33that's good
33:34i'm gonna make it up
33:35that's good
33:37thank you
33:38these camel herders they are hard to keep up with some of them are probably older than us
33:43they do look well weathered they're very fit it's a very simplistic life isn't it
33:49however they all have mobile phones i noticed that
33:53we need to catch him up now i know we're coming coming
33:57with a flock of 150 camels each with unique footprints the rikers can recognize their own
34:06animals from just the marks left in the sand yeah about that come on do you finally listen to
34:12you brother well they're moving aren't they come on then i've been poorly and doing the race when
34:20you're ill is even tougher you have to keep on going come on
34:27this adventure it's been the most uncomfortable adventure of my life
34:33but it has been the most rewarding in that i'm still here and i'm still talking about it
34:41because many a times i i want to give up and go home but i haven't
34:47all right guys are we moving come on come on
34:54come on girls
34:58when we were kids we did promise ourselves an invention yeah and it's probably happened
35:02a little bit later than we anticipated but just because you're a little bit older it doesn't
35:07mean you can't do these sort of things i'm on statins i take something from a prostate
35:15but it's what it is isn't it i'm still here look what i've got to enjoy yo click click click click
35:22go for it guys it'll be a lot easier to sit on one growing older does worry me when i look in the
35:33mirror and i look at myself i don't i don't actually recognize me i still think i'm 14 15 16.
35:40uh i still think i've got a full head of hair
35:46there you go right that's how you do it don't leave none behind good job
35:54i think there might be the odd one or two adventures that melvin and i will do again
36:06you know i'm actually thinking that i'd want to share a nursing home with my brother it'd probably
36:13cause a bit of mayhem yeah we'll we'll probably do silly things because we could get away with it
36:28we're going that way that way okay right thank you very much thank you thank you all thank you all
36:44journey starts all over again it does we know that other teams are pretty close to us melvin and i aren't
36:52runners so we need to try and maintain touching distance of everyone
36:57as brian and melvin resume their journey
37:01racing across the world 150 kilometers from the brothers elizabeth and leticia are continuing their
37:08march south started in china i definitely feel like there's a change there's like a shift and i feel
37:16like we're very much more open and it's just easier just traveling actually together we've come a long way
37:24i'm loving it
37:34having left jaipur i want to shower to brush my teeth
37:38finn and shawn ed are making swift progress by taking the third long distance bus in two days
37:46aiming for udaipur the white city
37:48i'd feel like absolutely disgusting i feel so filthy i changed my underwear be honest
38:00yesterday before the bus three days ago the whole outfit i'm wearing it for three days
38:05yeah not my underwear not that gross
38:13i don't think we could have done it any quicker two 10-hour buses in 24 hours
38:18we've just been go go go uh i think we're very tired we've seen a homestay it's on the way but work for a reduced rate at the ranch
38:28ready then to restart tomorrow and do the final push towards checkpoint
38:36i'm going to take my feet off
38:46oh nice caroline and tom it's absolutely just like another planet
38:54once part of the arabian sea until it became isolated following a series of earthquakes
38:59lakes it is now one of the largest salt deserts in the world
39:07every year it floods with the monsoon before drying out to leave an expanse of salty cracked earth
39:15there is families who are producing salt here okay in return for discounted accommodation
39:23caroline and tom are kept busy whole pan needs to be done what yes
39:33so could you not have a machine that does it machinery kills labor people need jobs
39:40the local agaria people use a process of compressing the ground to minimize water and release the salt
39:47they say you do it very well can he give a hundred kilos of salt to your son and keep you please
39:59that's the second marriage proposal i've had since i've been out here
40:04it has a therapeutic quality about it i'm just in my own little world here
40:08yet in the most enormous expanse and it just brings you back to how unimportant we really are
40:14nature will win every time
40:19i'm feeling conflicted because on one hand i'm worried that we're taking a long time to get to
40:24the checkpoints and on the other hand i'm really enjoying what rural india is showing us i'm slowly
40:32falling in love with this it's just as important that you enjoy the journey as much as you enjoy the
40:38destination i'm enjoying the experiences enormously and i'm allowing myself to enjoy them more than i
40:47thought i would i think i'm being uh quite different from the person i am at home more emotional generally
40:54a lot happier easy going which isn't like me at all does it make you question your competitive side
41:02in an answer no i'm afraid my competitive side is still at the four yeah so i actually want to
41:07combine the two i would have thought by this point you're probably pulling your own hair out
41:13i would be a really selfish person to not want to do this with you yes yeah of course because these are
41:19just the most special memories we're making but then equally i'd be selfish to try and take away your
41:25competitive side because that's what makes you tick hey we're finding a balance
41:28a balance thomas don't fall over i'll start slow first
41:44five kilometers outside of udaipur it's hard work finn and seanad are working at krishna ranch
42:05as make way towards last night's accommodation steal some quick take some quick oh oh
42:12shit whoo these are the times where i'm like wow i'm really really grateful for being in india really
42:21although we have just prioritized speed i'm finding this leg very very enjoyable i'm absolutely loving
42:26it just an absolutely beautiful place i genuinely would not want to be anywhere else right now there's
42:31chipmunks there's horses there's cows there's chickens just running around there's birds
42:36there's some food come on then heading good girl please be good for you oh shit you're strong oh
42:45shit
42:48it's been very important for me to have finn with me in india because he manages to keep things a bit more
42:56positive and keep the boat floating really he's the most resilient person i know i don't think he
43:02understands like how much he has actually gone through hello
43:11look
43:13there are bits in india where i do find it hard but i think kishonad finds it hard
43:18i just try and stay positive and i do definitely think i'm a little bit more resilient
43:23i think just growing up for me i've realized like i mean life isn't perfect and things happen
43:31when i was 11 um i would think i was on the sofa i just wasn't really moving
43:37my mum was like okay something's wrong she's still right i'm taking you to the doctors
43:44and it's good that she did yeah good that she did
43:46it was top one diabetes it was a week in intensive care then it was a week in just children's ward
43:59quite a lot for 11 i think being diabetic there's a lot of complications that can come with it you
44:05know in your eyes and i think my eyes are already going a little bit obviously
44:10and only being 18 it's not something you really want to think about i don't think but it's something
44:19you've got to think about about two years after i had a tumor in my head i had surgery then in my
44:29head because they found out what it was but that was horrific i've been rushed up to a bigger hospital
44:35this is not good obviously you think you're gonna you're gonna die i'm fine now um
44:55look this is the cutest little horse ever
44:59now i don't take anything for granted and this race is hard but i'm just trying to enjoy it really
45:08and so far i am because it is something i look back to and think i'm i'm so proud that i did that
45:16which i am
45:20and someone else agrees goodbye bye-bye
45:29thank you thank you this is your ticket oh wow uh to rajcourt i've had such a good time and not
45:35only that but we've also sorted our onwards travel 3500 you can count it as well our bus is booked for
45:4110 o'clock one day thank you thank you bye thank you bye we've got to sleep us hopefully we just sleep
45:46all night wake up and and be in rajcut that's the plan
45:51as finn and sean ed get back on the road two teams are gaining ground
46:01it's really important that we try and get there today because i picked the third
46:05looking on the map it is another 300 kilometers making a beeline for the checkpoint
46:13i'm gonna look finally on the way to checkpoint because i feel like it was a long time coming
46:17mm-hmm this is where you know we need to be go go go this is our longest journey how long is it 15 16
46:27hours at their homestay in the rural village of zainabad how far away is sasangir from here 300
46:36kilometers i think caroline and tom weigh up their next move where's the closest place that we could get
46:42to tonight to junagad let's just get a taxi there now if you can help us that would be great yeah
46:48this is india anything can happen absolutely anything i am a little bit concerned that our
46:53position might have dropped we've idled for quite a few hours and just think at the back of my mind
46:59we're standing still and i think the other teams might be moving on and overtaking us
47:04i do actually still need to race vehicle arrives in 10 15 minutes yeah and it is about 7 200 rupees
47:13obviously a bit expensive for us but is there a bus available there is one directly to junagad do
47:18you know what time it gets in six seven hours you don't know roughly how much the bus is maximum 150
47:26rupees oh we're such a dilemma it's up to you what do you want to do we have both options available
47:33back back at you i've told you i'd rather get a taxi i think but i need your opinion
47:38so i don't mind that's not good enough i'm sorry you need to be able to make a decision
47:42we do have the budget well go with it then if that's what you want let's go with that okay
47:47thank you it's all just about saving time but when i asked mum she puts all the pressure on me
47:52mum's saying she's feeling all liberated she needs to be able to make a decision because that's part of
47:57racing it's a lot of money to spend but it might well be worth it
48:02but i really don't want to take responsibility and i will try my hardest not to say i told you
48:08so if it all goes wrong it's here thank you so much one day we'll go to weather spoons together
48:17oh i love it thank you
48:28all four teams have made it to gujarat platform 10 sass and gif as brian and melvin take a 5am bus
48:48for the final 40 kilometers to checkpoint there's nobody else on the bus from the race so
48:55could be good news the adrenaline's building isn't it
48:59how much how much how much we're going to play 100 we need to we're in a race
49:07we need to bamos caroline and tom opt for another private taxi this guy lovely thank you
49:12having arrived overnight from jodhpur one way from here sassangir and stop 4 500 yeah yeah elizabeth and
49:22latisha secure their final transfer how much would it be to get to sassangir thank you very much
49:29thank you whilst finn and sean it continue to keep their pace very expensive very expensive but we
49:36need to save as much time as we can my head's on the roof
49:41after sassangir i'd be pretty gutted to find out that we haven't gamed any time
49:46if we haven't it's probably game over my heart's going like bubble bubble bubble this is when the
49:53nerve starts kicking i still can't help feeling we've dropped a couple of places
50:00we go fast fast fast yeah i'm gonna get one like lion i am hoping we're not going to be running
50:10alongside a lion that will make us run to save right under the door
50:22sitting on the boundary to gear national park the village is home to the maldari and city communities
50:30who live side by side with three roaming lions crocodiles and hyenas
50:36yes oh wow this could be actually pretty bloody cool
50:48thank you
50:53my friend thank you so much thank you
50:55here we go find the main road and travel one kilometer by foot or by chakadu
51:09sha-shakadu chickadu to the higher end river bridge
51:20we have to find the main road it's either that way or that way
51:22we can either go left main road left left left left all right keep looking it's almost
51:32oh gosh oh there's the main road the main road there
51:34let's go straight what's he called a chuck chuck do chuck do
51:39chuck do chuck do chuck do oh no this this might be a shakadu whatever it's called
51:44must be another name for a rickshaw
51:46is this this one this is yes do you want to give it a go all right it's going to be quicker than
51:57walking oh i thought chip chips weren't very secure but this is something else
52:01haran river bridge how much 50 is it huh just 40 we're in a race get on thank you 40. i guess so
52:08just clubbing take the bag off first i can't
52:13now we don't want to check to is there no it's a cross between a harley davidson and a track
52:22go go this is awesome you're in a tack too in my own country
52:31this is so much fun here and bridge watch out for wildlife
52:38to the bridge please yeah look for crocodiles as you go over the river
52:51continue on foot across the bridge and find the check one hotel the fern gear forest resort
52:57ready ready go this guy oh kevin lions crossing so cool i wonder if there's crocodiles in the lake
53:13i don't know where a bum sitting in that checker jackabang
53:15i'm always a bit dumb oh beautiful now look at this one it won't be far now
53:20a ton of swamp okay okay oh gosh i can see it on the left now
53:31fun gear forest resort oh mama needed there i got a funny feeling we're going to be bloody last you
53:36know oh yeah yeah yeah yeah
53:38good morning no much guys yeah can you have to tell you if you successfully reached your six
53:49checkpoint please sign in no belief
53:54i don't believe that
53:57i don't know i think
54:01i don't know how we've done it
54:02i don't so first place didn't expect it delighted that we've come in in first that's the third time
54:09i think we've been first we figured we wanted to keep pace with tom and caroline and we've actually
54:15leapfrogged them which is great hello okay ready oh oh my god i'm shaking oh my god this is so much
54:28better than i thought we've only dropped two hours and that is a big relief to us because we had a
54:32fantastic leg with wonderful experiences wow that's a that's a good sigh of relief it's nice to know that
54:38we had amazing experiences without sacrificing too much and it's all paid off hello
54:46welcome to the funky forest resort ready oh
54:51oh good oh that's good that's good that's good oh wow
55:03feeling great got two legs to go so we can catch up
55:07yeah because we're actually closer five hours from brian and melvin wow that's crazy
55:16let's go she's running
55:18there it is oh no oh no very nervous to open this book oh hello namaste
55:33you ready oh please congratulations you've successfully reached your sixth checkpoint please sign in over
55:41oh my gosh oh wow we're an hour behind oh my god well done well done
55:56how have we done that don't think i've ever been that excited to be last because we've caught up the
55:59time oh that's amazing that's absolutely amazing we've caught up with tom and caroline who were first by
56:0526 hours so we've caught up 26 hours only six hours from first that's like easily doable now for the
56:11next leg to come first or second that one leg has saved us it's going to be a closer now definitely for
56:18the first time since leaving the great wall of china all teams are within seven hours of each other
56:25as they head into the penultimate leg but whilst the time gap tightens the budget divide grows as finn and
56:32shawn ed trail behind with only 21 of their funds remaining wow so if we can do what we just did then
56:40next leg again and again and then we win winners
56:46so i can't scramble with your slots oh well okay let's go this is a totally different side to
56:52injury so different the closer to the finale the more competitive i'm getting like there's no room for
56:59error this race has pulled something out of it oh i do just want to see more of the world
57:08feel like any minute i'm going to get run out of our motorbike come in come in come in come in come in
57:13god it's massive the race is all to play for it's a bit risky it's a bit spicy eat brian and melvin
57:29so
57:38you
57:38you
57:39you
