Mauricio Rodriguez talks about the recent drama surrounding All-Pro CB Jalen Ramsey and the Miami Dolphins, with the two sides seemingly ready to split. The Dallas Cowboys have been linked to Ramsey, however there are conflicting reports out there, about whether or not that is true.

00:00So the Cowboys are reportedly in the mix for acquiring an All-Pro and there are already
00:05conflicting reports, but I'll tell you the one question that will determine if it happens or not.
00:14Hey, what's up everyone? It's Mauricio Rodriguez here at ADZ Sports Dallas.
00:18Over the weekend, a high-profile name was thrown into the NFL news cycle and the Cowboys were
00:26named as potential suitors for him. Now, the Cowboys have already made a high-profile move.
00:32They got George Pickens, the wide receiver out of the Pittsburgh Steelers. So, you know,
00:37fans are looking at this situation thinking, well, if they already got a Pickens, why not get
00:43an All-Pro at a position of need? Now, I am talking about cornerback Jalen Ramsey, who is currently
00:50with the Miami Dolphins and is undergoing a very complicated situation. It just feels like the
00:56relationship isn't there between player and franchise and even a three-year contract extension
01:02signed in 2024 might not be enough to keep Ramsey around. So Fowler indicated the Cowboys are indeed
01:10potential suitors for Jalen Ramsey, which has been sort of shut down by Cowboys insider Brian Brotus.
01:17He said that he heard over the weekend that that report was inaccurate. So there are some
01:23conflicting reports in this situation, which is very interesting because you don't know what to
01:29make of it, right? Brian Brotus is super credible, but I would also argue Fowler is as well. In fact,
01:34he was the first one to bring up the possibility of the Cowboys going after Joe Milton, which they did
01:40earlier in the offseason. What I will say is that there is a specific question that will determine
01:46if this trade happens or not, and that is how badly do they think they need a cornerback? Because the
01:54George Pickens trade happened apparently because they had no other choice. They were not going to
02:00force a pick in the NFL draft, which is why they went and got Tyler Booker with the 12th overall pick
02:06instead of Matthew Golden from the Texas Longhorns or Emika Ekbuka from Ohio State. They were going to go
02:12for their highest player on the board. So maybe they went into the process thinking maybe they could
02:17get Ted McMillan back in the first round, which since then we've heard that was indeed the case.
02:22If McMillan would have been there, he likely would have been the pick, but they didn't get him.
02:27Second round, also they didn't get a receiver. Third round, also didn't get a receiver. So they had
02:33their backs against the wall. And maybe similarly to the 2018 situation when the Cowboys were halfway
02:38through the season and didn't have a number one wide receiver, they went for Amari Cooper. Well,
02:43this time in the offseason, they got George Pickens. If the Cowboys look at their cornerback
02:48situation, and trust me, it's a bad one, and they think it's similar to the situation going on at
02:54wide receiver, they might make a surprising move here. And think about it. Trevon Vick's not going to
03:00be ready for the start of the season. Savon Revell Jr., third round draft pick, hasn't played a full
03:05season since 2023, and he's only going to be ready until training camp is already underway.
03:11Can you bet on him being a week one starter? Maybe not. You lost Jordan Lewis in free agency,
03:16and you do have second year Kylian Carson, who showed you some promising flashes, but he's also
03:22fighting back from injury, and he's absolutely a question mark. And you also have former first round
03:28draft pick Kyrie Elam, which they really seem to like based on comments from coaches and players,
03:34but they're betting on him to do something he hasn't done before, which is start at a high
03:39level. In other words, the position is a massive question mark beyond Deron Bland. And the fact that
03:46they got eliminated, they drafted Siobhan Revell Jr. in the third round makes me think that they do
03:52look at it as a need. They do look at the position as a priority. And my question is, if they are not
03:59happy with what they've got for week one, how aggressive are they going to be to feel that
04:05void? Jalen Ramsey is obviously as aggressive as they can get because they would need to give up
04:10significant draft capital. And he is someone that he signed through 2028, but he also happens to be
04:16one of the best cornerbacks in the entire NFL. Now, granted, there are other possibilities. And one of
04:22the most obvious ones is a Virginian with Stephon Gilmore, who played for the Cowboys during the
04:282023 season and was at the start leading up to the NFL draft, even though that was, quote unquote,
04:35not a free agent visit. I mean, if you believe that. So whether it's Ramsey, Gilmore or somebody else,
04:42I wouldn't be shocked if the Cowboys address the cornerback position before the season,
04:47because they think there's a need there and they're absolutely correct.
