The question being asked on the surface is "Want a macaron / taco / hot dog?" but the crude drawings suggest the real question is far naughtier.

00:00Meme culture can get a little hairy.
00:02It seems memers love to take wholesome things like a freshly baked sweet treat
00:06and turn them into something so vulgar we have trouble even figuring out how to talk about it.
00:10The questions being asked on the surface of this trending meme are
00:13do you want a macron, do you want a taco, and do you want a hot dog?
00:17But the question being asked beneath the surface?
00:19It's basically soliciting intimate favors.
00:22So where did this all begin?
00:23As far as we can tell, the trend began on April 25th, 2021
00:27with Australian artist David the Robot posting a crude drawing to his private Instagram account
00:32depicting a female chef with a plate of macrons asking the viewer,
00:36want a macron?
00:36But camouflaged among the spread of cookies is something that definitely wouldn't make it past the health inspector.
00:42If you don't know, a macron is a little French sandwich-like cookie,
00:46the only correct pronunciation of which is with an obnoxious French accent.
00:49The image was reposted to 9gag and memes using it were shared across social media in the following months.
00:54But how did it start going viral in 2025?
00:56It's unclear which exact post kicked off the current trend,
01:00but it seemed to be one of several viral photo slideshows it was used in in early and mid-May 2025.
01:05For instance, on May 12th,
01:07TikToker Wobblywobblewobblewob shared a new original drawing of the Wanamacron lady,
01:12garnering over 10 million views in under two weeks.
01:15As these spread, variations of the image and question would start appearing,
01:19with other female chefs offering up plates of tacos or donuts,
01:23and male chefs offering a hot dog.
01:25Some chefs would even be depicted back-turned offering a brownie.
01:31Due to the crudely graphic nature of these drawings,
01:34many have been taken down from social media platforms,
01:37but users have been referencing the disturbing trend in more subtle, safer work posts,
01:41like with memes hinting about its existence,
01:43or representing users' reactions to encountering these unhinged drawings.
