00:10So, why are we seeing The Simpsons characters licking their lips at the idea of liver and onions on TikTok?

00:15This current trend is a revival of a meme that started all the way back in 2017.

00:19Well, I guess if you want to get technical about it, it really started in 1996,

00:23when The Simpsons aired the episode The Day the Violence Died,

00:26which features this scene where the character Chester J. Lampwick wants to celebrate a victory with his favorite cuisine.

00:32Wanna go celebrate? I feel like liver and onions.

00:36But then in 2017, a Tumblr user shared the earliest found liver and onions meme,

00:41in two panels based on a scene from the episode Bart on the Road,

00:44altering the dialogue to reference liver and onions,

00:46and editing Lampwick's beard and tongue onto all four of the characters featured.

00:50The meme spread to the r slash Simpson posting subreddit and to YouTube,

00:53gaining a notable presence in 2018, as more and more users uploaded videos editing Lampwick's mouth

00:59saying liver and onions and licking his lips onto other characters from The Simpsons,

01:03in all varieties of scenes from the show.

01:05Many would also try and insert some depiction of the dish in the clips as well.

01:08For example, in April 2018, Redditor IamCarballo posted a video like this,

01:13where liver and onions makes a cameo in The Simpsons' McBain movie.

01:17Remember when I said I would eat you last?

01:20I lied.

01:21In May of 2025, the meme saw a resurgence on TikTok.

01:26While it's unclear what kicked off this new wave,

01:28it is clear that the joke is just as funny as it was before.

01:31Just now it's reaching a new audience.

01:33More liver and onions.

01:36Yes, please.

01:39TikTokers have been posting clips, editing Lampwick's liver-licking lips onto other Simpsons characters,

01:44but they've also taken it several steps further,

01:46by putting the beard on themselves or using AI to have subjects from outside the Simpsons universe embody the craving.

01:52Mix together with the most important ingredient of all,
