A cloudy picture for most of the UK, with showers, heavy at times, most frequent in western areas, potentially merging to give longer spells of rain. Thunder and hail possible also across western parts of Scotland and in Northern Ireland where rain is likely throughout the afternoon with increasing winds. Feeling cooler than it has been over the weekend for much of the UK. - This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the afternoon of 26/05/2025. Bringing you today’s weather forecast is Kathryn Chalk.

00:00Good afternoon, well it's a bit of a typical British bank holiday Monday out there, showers
00:05for some of us followed by longer spells of rain. Now taking a look at the bigger picture
00:09we've got this area of low pressure that's going to be moving its way across the country
00:13bringing spells of rain overnight and then replaced by another area of low pressure as
00:19we go through Tuesday but bringing some welcome rainfall for many of us. So back to the rest
00:26of this afternoon it's rather cloudy for many of us we'll see showers most frequent across
00:31western areas and they could merge to give longer spells of rain perhaps even some hail and thunder
00:36across western parts of Scotland even across the southeast couldn't rule out a shower here
00:41and generally quite cloudy skies but out towards northern Ireland turn increasingly unsettled with
00:47longer spells of rain here and the winds will be increasing too but for many of us it's a cooler
00:54feeling day out there especially compared to the weekend highs of up to 17 18 possibly 19 in any
01:01sunny spells towards the far southeast. Now as we go through this evening this band of rain will
01:08continue to push its way eastwards turning heavy at times over the hills and across parts of Wales
01:13and that will clear eventually across the southeast as we start Tuesday morning. So we'll see clear
01:20spells behind that but also some showers feeding in again on that brisk westerly wind across parts of
01:26western Scotland but otherwise temperatures won't fall too low tonight we could see a touch of frost
01:32across eastern Scotland as we start Tuesday morning. So a bright start for many of us on Tuesday
01:40morning but it won't last too long we'll see further spells of heavy rain moving in from the south and
01:46west so turning increasingly unsettled across northern Ireland southern parts of England Wales the midlands
01:52and the far southeast. Now it's going to be heaviest over the hills across Wales part of Exmoor Dartmoor
01:59the south Pennines but across Scotland that's where we hold on to sunny spells and a few showers they
02:05won't be as frequent as recent days but otherwise generally feeling quite cool and unpleasant underneath all
02:13that cloud rain and strong winds especially strong across the coasts. Now as we go through Tuesday afternoon
02:21and into the evening plenty of rain still around across much of England and Wales and that'll gradually
02:27slowly clear its way eastwards behind that clear skies especially across Scotland with a few showers.
02:34And that really sets the theme as we go through this week but there will be a week ahead coming up
02:39on our YouTube channel later so make sure to hit subscribe so you don't miss that and I'll see you
02:44there very soon. Bye bye.
