Showers, with the potential for a thundery element, likely to linger in Northern Ireland for a time before mostly fading away by the end of the day. There will be clear skies across many northern and eastern areas, though at the same time we will see cloud thickening across central and southern parts of England and Wales. These clouds will bring sporadic bursts of rain which will gather together as we move through the early hours of tomorrow. This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the evening of 20/05/2025. Bringing you today’s weather forecast is Clare Nasir.
00:00Hello there, welcome to your Tuesday evening weather update from the Met Office.
00:05There's some rain on its way, particularly for Wales, central, southern, southwestern parts of England.
00:11The bigger picture is this front here which will skirt from the Republic Island down towards the southwest.
00:16And then this cold front dragging in colder air into Thursday, where temperatures are likely to be a good three or four degrees lower than what we have seen, particularly across central and eastern areas.
00:26But mainly we will see that trend to some cooler weather before things change and we see some rain for many parts into the weekend.
00:35For the time being, these showers across Northern Ireland with a thundery element will tend to fade away.
00:40Clearer skies across many areas, more cloud though, central, southern parts of England and Wales.
00:45And we'll see some sporadic bursts of rain arrive which will gather together as we head into the early hours of tomorrow morning.
00:53Elsewhere, some clearer skies across the north as well as the east, a little bit of low clouds shrouding the coastline.
01:00And that wind returns to more eastern areas into tomorrow morning.
01:04First thing then, if you are stepping out, you may run into some rain.
01:08West country, central, southern England, southern and central parts of Wales, southwest Midlands.
01:13Further north, it's a fine start, a clear one with some sunshine, a little bit of low cloud here.
01:19Along the northern and eastern fringe of Scotland as well as northeast England.
01:23Inland, yes, a dry day, a fine one with some warm sunshine.
01:28But this wind will be stronger across this eastern fringe, keeping temperatures slightly lower.
01:34At the same time, the cloud continues with some rain across central and southern areas,
01:40maybe even nudging in towards the home counties.
01:42And some showers break out ahead of it across the Midlands, northwest England, down towards East Anglia.
01:48Now, towards the north, it's a fine end to the day with lots of sunshine.
01:53Here are your temperatures then through the afternoon.
01:56Well, inland, we'll see 21, 22 Celsius.
01:59Highest temperatures probably somewhere like Dumfries and Galloway along this east coast, 15 to 17.
02:03Northern Ireland, 21, and probably around 20 across more southern areas where you see that cloud and that rain,
02:10which will clear away through tomorrow evening and overnight.
02:14But it's really this northerly wind which will keep things cooler as we head into Thursday.
02:21Clouds to start the day across some parts.
02:23England and Wales seeing a little bit.
02:24A few showers running down the North Sea and they could clip the far east there further.
02:29The west will see some fine weather.
02:30The temperatures, well, a lot lower than we've seen recently.
02:33Away from the west country, you could see a 21.
02:36Friday's looking fine and dry with some sunshine, perhaps one or two showers down towards more southern and eastern areas.
02:42And then all change into the weekend.
