Israeli strike kills nine of Gaza doctor's children, hospital says

00:00An Israeli airstrike on Gaza hit the home of a doctor and killed nine of her ten children,

00:06the hospital where she works in the city of Khan Yunus says.

00:10Nasser Hospital said one of Dr. Allah al-Najjar's children and her husband were injured, but survived.

00:17Graham Groom, a British surgeon working in the hospital, said he had operated on her surviving 11-year-old boy.

00:24A video shared by the director of the Hamas-run health ministry and verified by the BBC

00:30showed small burned bodies being lifted from the rubble of a strike in Khan Yunus on Friday.

00:36In a general statement on Saturday, the Israel Defense Forces, IDF,

00:41said it had struck more than 100 targets across Gaza over the past day.

00:45The health ministry said at least 74 people had been killed by the Israeli military

00:49over the 24-hour period leading up to about midday on Saturday.

00:55Dr. Munir al-Bursh, director of the health ministry, said on X that the al-Najjar's family house was hit

01:01minutes after Dr. al-Najjar's husband Hamdi had returned home after driving his wife to work.

01:06Dr. al-Bursh said the eldest of Dr. al-Najjar's children was aged 12.

01:11Mr. Groom said that the children's father was very badly injured.

01:14He said he had asked about the father, also a doctor at the hospital,

01:19and had been told he had no political and no military connections

01:22and doesn't seem to be prominent on social media.

01:26He described it as an unimaginable situation for Dr. al-Najjar.

01:31Mahmoud Basal, spokesman for Gaza's Hamas-run civil defense agency,

01:35said on Telegram on Friday afternoon that his teams had recovered eight bodies

01:40and several injured from the al-Najjar house near a petrol station in Khan Yunus.

01:45The hospital initially posted on Facebook that eight children had been killed,

01:51then two hours later updated that number to nine.

01:54Another doctor, Yousef Abu al-Rish, said in a statement posted by the health ministry

02:00that he had arrived to the operating room to find Dr. al-Najjar waiting for information

02:06about her surviving son and tried to console her.

02:09In an interview recorded by AFP news agency, relative Yousef al-Najjar said,

02:15Enough. Have mercy on us.

02:17We plead to all countries, the international community, the people, Hamas,

02:22and all factions to have mercy on us.

02:26We are exhausted from the displacement and the hunger. Enough.
