00:00Excitement. Players from across the nation are gathered here tonight to compete for our top prize of $1,000,000.
00:07It's the television show brought to you by America's favorite lottery game.
00:14It's Powerball.
00:17The Game Show.
00:19And here's your host, Bob Eubanks.
00:23Well, thank you very much. Thank you.
00:30We're really excited to be bringing Powerball to television.
00:33Now, let me tell you how this goes.
00:34We have ten lucky players representing each of our participating Powerball states.
00:39And here's who's playing for your state tonight.
00:42I'm Mary Louise Seifold from Masontown, West Virginia, and I purchased my ticket at a Dairy Mart.
00:47Now, players, each of you is represented by your own Powerball racer in a contest to see who can get across the Powerball nation first.
00:56Whoever's in the lead at the end of the race will get to play our magical zero-gravity game for a possible million dollars in cash.
01:04Yeah!
01:06Yes!
01:06Now, I know lots of you already buy tickets for the popular Powerball game,
01:12but the only way to win a trip to Hollywood and get on this show and play for the million dollars
01:16is by playing this brand-new game, the Powerball Scratch Ticket.
01:21Every ticket gives you eight chances to win $25,000 instantly,
01:26plus a chance to come on our show and play for $1,000,000 in cash.
01:32Powerball Scratch Tickets can be found wherever Powerball tickets are sold.
01:35Hey, and by the way, you Powerball Scratch Ticket players at home,
01:40be sure to root for your player, because a win could mean $10,000 for you,
01:44and I'll explain more about that a little bit later on.
01:46But here's a chance to take an early lead as we play Powerball Express.
01:58And helping us out is the very lovely Debbie James.
02:01Now, players, the train will push that Powerball up the steep hill,
02:06and where the ball stops on the track will tell us how many miles each player wins.
02:11Now, I want you to take a look at these six balls over there.
02:14They represent all of those different stopping points on the track.
02:18Here's what's going to happen.
02:19We're going to randomly choose one, and that will determine where the train will stop.
02:23But you have to watch out, because we're also adding this one danger ball.
02:27If it gets chosen, the train will push the Powerball completely over the cliff.
02:32And if you're still in the game, when that happens, you lose all of the miles that you've accumulated.
02:36Now, we're going to play three turns.
02:38But before we start, I'm going to offer each one of our players a chance to sit this game out
02:44and a 500-mile bonus.
02:48For players, you can take a risk and play in hopes of winning more than the 500 miles.
02:53So, players, you have to decide.
02:54Do you want to risk playing, or do you want to quit with the 500 miles?
02:57I want you to vote now.
03:04Can you believe that all of our players have decided to play every single one of them?
03:10All right.
03:11That's all right.
03:12So, I'll tell you what we're going to do.
03:13We're going to wipe that vote out, and we're going to make things a little more interesting.
03:17Listen to me, players.
03:18This time, if you quit right now, I will give you 700 miles just to sit it out.
03:25So, players, you have to make up your minds.
03:26You want to play?
03:27You want to quit?
03:28Vote now.
03:32Aha!
03:34We got rid of two of them that time.
03:36All right.
03:37You players who decided to play, I want you to head right on over now to our play area.
03:40And those who decided to play it safe, well, we're going to apply 700-mile bonus to the race,
03:46putting you into an early lead.
03:47Okay, all of you players that took the risk of staying in the game, well, you're betting you can win more than the 700 miles,
03:56and you're going to have up to three turns to do it.
03:59So, tell you what let's do.
04:00Let's see if our players made the right decision.
04:02Debbie, if you would, please.
04:03Let's select the first ball.
04:05Now, remember, folks, we will not be able to see the ball that Debbie will be choosing, but Debbie will.
04:12And we've got our first ball.
04:14Okay.
04:14Good luck to our players.
04:16Let's play Powerball Express.
04:18All right.
04:25The train's on its way up the track, approaching 200 miles.
04:32There's the blue zero.
04:33We don't want the blue zero.
04:34Now, about 400 miles.
04:37We don't want the green.
04:37We don't want the green.
04:38Keep going, train.
04:39There's 600 miles.
04:41There's the red zero.
04:42We don't want the red zero.
04:45Oh.
04:46Oh, no.
04:48It went over.
04:49That means that all you players have decided to quit.
04:52Kentucky and Minnesota, congratulations to you.
04:54Now, all of you players have decided to play.
04:57You lose your miles.
04:58And let's take a look at the ball right now.
05:00There it is.
05:02Oh, doggone.
05:03Well, we've got some ties.
05:04And remember, it's the player with the most miles at the end of the game who plays for the $1 million.
05:08So, I'm going to ask our players to return to the podiums so we can break those ties.
05:13Now, before the show, each of our players randomly chose a sealed envelope.
05:18And inside was a different number of miles, from 50 all the way up to 140.
05:23Let's see how many miles they got and how these affect the standings.
05:27Okay, players, if you would, please, show me your miles.
05:30Minnesota is in the lead.
05:33Kentucky is in second, with Iowa in third, followed by Connecticut and Nebraska.
05:37Washington, D.C. is in sixth, ahead of New Hampshire and Oregon, then Louisiana and West Virginia.
05:43Hey, I bet all of you home players in Minnesota are already counting your winnings.
05:46But don't forget, anybody can still win, including home viewers like you.
05:50So, tell you what, let's do it.
05:51Let's take a look at some of tonight's home players in your state.
05:54Now, remember, all of these people are guaranteed to be winners.
05:58But if they're really lucky, they can all win as much as $10,000 apiece.
06:02Now, if you don't see your name up there yet, hey, don't worry about it.
06:05We'll be showing more home winners from your state later in the show.
06:08And if you're not a home player yet, you're missing a lot of fun and excitement and a chance to win thousands.
06:14Here's how you do it.
06:15Just buy the new Powerball scratch ticket and be sure to scratch off the red bonus area.
06:20If you have a winning entry, follow the instructions on the back of the ticket,
06:23and you could win thousands sitting at home watching Powerball, the game show.
06:35Players and their guests were flown here to fabulous Hollywood, California,
06:38where they are having the time of their lives experiencing the sights and sounds of the glamour capital of the world.
06:45And they all got here by playing the Powerball scratch ticket.
06:49And now, it's time for our next game, Capsize.
06:55Hey, we have a good, close game going.
06:57You know, Minnesota and Kentucky decided to sit the first game out.
06:59It worked for them.
07:00They picked up 700 miles by not doing anything.
07:02But anybody could still win this game, believe me.
07:05Now, we're going to play a game called Capsize.
07:06And when we play Capsize, we use a giant buoy, which is free to rotate, just like this.
07:12Why don't you take a look?
07:13There it goes.
07:14Now, those balls over there don't all weigh the same.
07:18Some are heavier than others.
07:19Now, we're going to be moving those balls one at a time to the top of the buoy,
07:23making it increasingly likely to tip over.
07:26Eventually, the buoy may lean over so far that one or more of the balls will fall out,
07:31and that's what we call a capsize.
07:33Now, each time that we add another ball to the game,
07:36it will be worth more miles to our players.
07:39Now, players, if you survive moving the first ball,
07:41you're going to win 700 miles.
07:43If you decide to play again,
07:45the second ball will be worth an additional 1,500 miles.
07:49And if you make it and dare to play the third time,
07:53you'll win another 2,500 miles.
07:56But let me warn you,
07:58if the buoy capsizes while you're still playing,
08:00you're going to lose all of the miles that you've won in this game.
08:04Now, before we play,
08:05I'm going to offer any one of our players a chance to sit this game out,
08:09and I will give them a 1,000-mile bonus.
08:13Or, players, you can take a risk
08:15and play in hopes of winning more than that 1,000 miles.
08:19Players, I want you to vote now.
08:21Everybody's going to play but one.
08:29Everybody.
08:30The man from Washington, D.C., he says,
08:32I'm taking the 1,000 miles, and I'm out of here.
08:35Okay, risk-takers,
08:36I want you to make your way over to the play area.
08:38And the gentlemen from Washington, D.C.,
08:40we're going to add 1,000-mile bonus to your total.
08:45Okay, good luck to our players who have decided to play.
08:48And, players, let's see how well you do.
08:49Now, the balls over there in the machine are numbered 1 through 8,
08:53just like the red ones.
08:55Now, Debbie's going to select our first ball.
08:57Remember, one player decided not to play the game.
08:59John from Washington, D.C., he says,
09:00I'm going to take the miles.
09:02Lucky number 7, Bob.
09:03Number 7.
09:04Okay, so we're going to move ball number 7
09:06to the first empty position.
09:08If the buoy capsizes, players, you won't have won anything.
09:11But if it doesn't capsize,
09:12then you're going to win 700 more miles.
09:15Let's see if you made the right decision.
09:16Let's play capsize.
09:18Oh, look out.
09:27It's got to swing twice.
09:30And, whoop.
09:32You were right, players.
09:35Scared me to death.
09:37You made the right decision.
09:39It scared you to death, too, didn't it?
09:41Okay, now, players, you've got another decision to make.
09:44Let me ask you this one now.
09:44Are you willing to risk the 700 miles for a chance to win an additional 1,500 miles?
09:51Or you want to protect the miles that you've just won and move over to the quit space?
09:55Big decision.
09:57What are you going to do?
09:57Whatever it is, vote now.
10:00You're going to quit?
10:01Protect the miles?
10:05Louisiana and Kentucky, they're heading for the quit area.
10:07There goes Minnesota.
10:09He's out in front.
10:10He says, heck, I'm going to protect those miles I've won so far.
10:13Okay.
10:13Those of you who have quit, we'll apply the 700 miles that you've just won.
10:17Those of you who have decided to play, good luck to you.
10:24All right, let's select the next ball.
10:27We're going to find out right now if you made the right decision.
10:31Number four, Bob.
10:32Ball number four.
10:34Okay, ball number four.
10:35Now, remember, players, if the game doesn't capsize, you're going to win an additional 1,500 miles.
10:43Did you make the right decision?
10:44We're going to find out.
10:45Let's play capsize.
10:47Oh, it capsized, so all of you guys lose the 700 miles you've just won.
11:04And look at all those happy guys.
11:05Minnesota, Louisiana, and Kentucky, they quit, and they're happy.
11:09Now, let's take a look at our overall standings of all the players.
11:13In first place is Minnesota.
11:15Kentucky is in second, and Washington, D.C., in third.
11:17Louisiana is running fourth, ahead of Iowa, Connecticut, and Nebraska in seventh.
11:20Then New Hampshire, Oregon, and West Virginia.
11:23When we come back, we're going to play our final game, our final race, which will decide
11:26who's going to play for $1 million.
11:29Hey, I've got to tell you something, there's a lot of strategy going on over here, and now
11:46we're going to go into the home stretch of the race, so this game will determine which
11:50of our players will play for the $1 million.
11:53And here's the way it works.
11:53I'm going to ask a series of questions that we surveyed right here in Hollywood, and the
11:58first question will determine who will stay in the game, because once it's over, the four
12:03players, the four players with the lowest number of miles will be eliminated from the race and
12:07out of tonight's competition.
12:09And right now, I can see that West Virginia, Oregon, New Hampshire, and Nebraska, you're
12:15trailing the field, are in immediate danger of being eliminated, so you're going to have to
12:19do some catching up.
12:20All right, here is our first question.
12:23We ask married women, do you have any money hidden somewhere that your husband doesn't
12:28know about?
12:29Did more married women say yes or no?
12:32Players, vote now.
12:38There we go.
12:39Okay, all of our votes are locked in.
12:41Let's find out the answer now.
12:43To the question, do you have money hidden that your husband doesn't know about?
12:48Most married women said, no, they do not.
12:53No, they do not.
12:55So everybody chose the wrong answer.
12:58So no miles were earned for that question.
13:00That means that the last four racers will now be eliminated.
13:03Doggone it.
13:04Let's see who that's going to be.
13:05It's too bad for West Virginia, Oregon, New Hampshire, and Nebraska.
13:11Oh, you're out of the race, but we thank you guys very much for playing our game.
13:14All right?
13:16Oh, listen.
13:17Oh, listen to their relatives in the audience.
13:19Congratulations to all of our survivors, by the way.
13:21Now, after this next question, we're going to be doing the same thing.
13:25We're going to eliminate the four of you who are in the back of the field.
13:28And right now, as I took a look at our board, we find that Connecticut, Iowa, Louisiana, and Washington, D.C., you guys are in a vulnerable position.
13:36So let's see if you can improve your standings with our next question.
13:39And here is that question.
13:40Players, we ask, do you believe that there are witches who can actually cast spells?
13:46Did more people say yes or no?
13:49Vote now.
13:51Do you believe there are witches that can cast spells?
13:56Everybody has locked in their votes.
13:58And let's find out the answer.
14:01To the question, do you believe there are witches who cast spells?
14:04Most people said, no.
14:07No, they do not.
14:12All right.
14:14And that right answer means that they've won miles.
14:17It could help them move ahead.
14:18But now in this game, we find out in a random draw how many miles a right answer is worth.
14:25And that could be 100, 1,000, or 3,000 miles.
14:29So tell you what let's do.
14:30Let's mix the balls up right now.
14:33And good luck to our players.
14:393,000, Bob.
14:413,000 miles.
14:42Okay.
14:42That means we're going to apply 3,000 miles to those who voted no.
14:50And remember, the last four racers will now be eliminated from the race.
14:53So let's see who that will be.
14:55It's too bad that we're going to lose Washington, D.C., Kentucky, Connecticut, and Iowa.
15:10Okay, we're down to just two players, and this is the moment of truth.
15:16Whichever of our two players is ahead at the end of this next question will become our new champion,
15:19and we'll then go on to play for $1 million.
15:21And right now, as we take a look at our board, we find that Minnesota's out in front.
15:26Louisiana is trailing as of right now.
15:29So this is Louisiana's last chance to do some catching up with this question.
15:33Are you ready, players?
15:34Good luck to the two of you.
15:35We ask, did you watch any of this year's presidential debates?
15:40Did more people say yes or no?
15:42Players, I want you to vote now.
15:49Did you get it, Tim?
15:53Both of our players have locked in their answers.
15:55Now, Minnesota, you were in the lead at the beginning of this question,
15:59so we're going to start with you.
16:00If you answered correctly, it'll be impossible for Louisiana to catch up,
16:04and you will be our champion.
16:05Remember, the question was, did you watch any of the presidential debates?
16:11Let's find out what your answer is.
16:14You answered yes.
16:17According to the survey, most people said yes.
16:22You're right, Tim.
16:23And Minnesota is our champion, and he's going to go on to play for $1 million.
16:30Well, Minnesota's our winner.
16:32Louisiana, Donald, you did a great job over there.
16:35And thanks to all of our players tonight.
16:36And by the way, keep buying those Powerball scratch tickets,
16:39and we hope to see you again.
16:41And here are our final standings.
16:43Take a look.
16:43The winner is Minnesota, 2nd, Louisiana, 3rd, Iowa, 4th, Connecticut, 5th, Kentucky, Washington, D.C.
16:50and 6th, Nebraska, 7th, 8th, New Hampshire, 9th, Oregon, and 10th, West Virginia.
16:54All eligible home players in West Virginia win $100.
16:57Hey, let's take a look at the rest of our home winners from your state.
17:03And now you eligible home players, even if your state didn't win tonight, you still win money.
17:08And if you don't see your name here tonight, and you'd like a chance to be a home player,
17:12be sure and buy the new Powerball scratch ticket.
17:15And by the way, you home players from Minnesota, you could win up to $10,000 more
17:20as your champion goes on to play for $1 million on our incredible game, Zero Gravity.
17:27We'll be right back with that, right after this.
17:29Powerball scratch ticket, you could win up to eight times on every ticket.
17:40And you could win up to $25,000 instantly.
17:43Powerball scratch tickets can be found wherever Powerball tickets are sold.
17:47And now, Tim plays for a million dollars on Zero Gravity.
17:52All right, Tim Holbrook.
17:59Tim, I've got to tell you something.
18:01You have made everyone in the state of Minnesota really happy
18:04because the eligible home players have just won $250.
18:09And with your help, they could win a heck of a lot more.
18:12Not only is that your fourth grade teacher?
18:13Yes.
18:13And what did you promise those kids?
18:15Some really good treats if I won.
18:17Oh, well, what kind of treats are you going to give them now?
18:19I'll have to be very creative when I...
18:22The Tootsie Pops won't make it now, you know that.
18:23No, they won't.
18:24Well, let me tell you.
18:25In a moment, you're going to release the Powerball from its state of Zero Gravity.
18:29It's going to bounce around.
18:30It's going to be pushed here and there by these random air jets.
18:34And then after 20 seconds, the power to the air jets and the wheel will be cut off.
18:38And wherever it ends up, you will win that amount.
18:41It could be $10,000, $25,000, $50,000, all the way up to $100,000.
18:45Those are the green slots.
18:47Now, wherever it lands, you still have a chance to go for the $1 million,
18:50but I'll tell you more about that a little later on.
18:52Spin the wheel, please.
18:56Now, whenever you're ready to release the ball, simply push the button.
19:00Tim Holbrook from St. Cloud, Minnesota.
19:03Good luck to you, my friend.
19:05He has pushed.
19:07And the ball is in play.
19:08The air jets have started.
19:12And in a few seconds, we're going to find out how much he wins.
19:16The ball is currently on $25,000.
19:18Oops, now it's moved and moving again.
19:23Where will it stop?
19:26And it has stopped.
19:28Officially stopped right now.
19:29Tim, you've just won $25,000.
19:32Debbie has a check for you.
19:40Tim's looking at his wife here in the front row.
19:42What do I do, dear?
19:44Okay, you have an important decision to make, as you know.
19:46If you want, you can stop and keep your $25,000.
19:50Or you can give all that money back to us,
19:52spend the wheel one more time for $1 million.
19:56But before you decide, I want you to take a look at this.
19:59We've assigned new money amounts.
20:01The slots are now worth from $10,000
20:03all the way up to $1 million.
20:07Now, listen to me carefully.
20:08If you decide to play, you must give up the $25,000
20:11you've already won and take your chance on the wheel.
20:14So, Tim, he's looking at Mama.
20:16What's your decision?
20:17Giving up the $25,000,
20:18or are you going to try for the $1 million?
20:20I'm going to give it up.
20:21You're going to give up the $25,000
20:23and try for the $1 million.
20:28Woo!
20:30You've just given up $25,000
20:33and he's going to do that to try for $1 million.
20:37Good luck to you, Tim.
20:38Let's start the wheel.
20:40So, Tim, for $1 million,
20:42release the ball when you're ready.
20:50The ball has been released.
20:51The air jets have started
20:55and now Tim Holbrook,
20:58St. Cloud, Minnesota,
21:00has a chance to win $1 million.
21:03Oh!
21:03Oh!
21:12And it's done!
21:13$1 million!
21:15Hey, Tim, come here!
21:33Tim Holbrook from St. Cloud, Minnesota,
21:37with $1 million.
21:38Not only that,
21:39that means that every eligible home player
21:41in Minnesota
