00:00Thank you very much, and good afternoon.
00:16Well, clothing fashions come and go, but fashions and love, luckily, adhere to traditional customs,
00:21which can be easily followed on the dating game.
00:24For instance, our first lovely young lady claims she's truly a first.
00:28And who knows, maybe she'll be the first true love of one of our first three bachelors.
00:33We'll see what happens right after this important message.
00:36Stumper, Stumper.
00:39Eager candidates for the honor of being first man for our first young and lovely gal.
00:44And here they come.
00:52Good luck, gentlemen.
00:54A member of a championship tennis team when he was in high school,
00:57bachelor number one plans on coaching college football.
01:00He likes to sail, he enjoys fishing, and along less strenuous lines, he plays the piano.
01:05Please meet Steve Martin.
01:07Steve, welcome.
01:10An apprentice clerk, bachelor number two, would like to open a surfboard shop.
01:15He says he makes out-of-sight ceramics and would like to duplicate a trip like the endless summer.
01:20His name is Alan Adams.
01:23Good luck.
01:24And headed for law school and a career as a tax attorney,
01:29bachelor number three won the most talkative senior award when he was in high school.
01:34He plays tennis, has won a few dance contests.
01:36His name is Mike Glickson.
01:38And away we go with another set of swinging bachelors for game number one.
01:44Now, in order to keep our young lady from hearing anything about our three gentlemen,
01:48we have kept her isolated offstage in a soundproof room.
01:52And I'd like to introduce her to you right now.
01:55She's the kind of a gal who is always eager to be first.
02:00She loves to cook, go yachting.
02:02She'd like to be an interpreter for the United Nations.
02:05We'd like you to meet Linda Wolf.
02:08Linda, hi.
02:09How are you?
02:10Nice to see you.
02:12Linda, we have three gentlemen who would like to go out with you.
02:15And, of course, you can only select one, and that is on the basis of what they sound like,
02:19how you like them on the basis of your answers to your questions.
02:21You understand, right?
02:22Okay, we'll start with a hello then and see if they're speaking today.
02:25Bachelor number one, would you say good afternoon to Linda?
02:28Good afternoon, Linda.
02:29How are you?
02:30Number two.
02:31Hi, Linda.
02:32And bachelor number three?
02:33Good afternoon, Linda.
02:34All right, they're ready to go.
02:35Your question's all set?
02:36Yes, sir.
02:37Linda, if you'd have a seat right here.
02:38Make yourself comfortable.
02:39When you are comfortable, you may begin.
02:41And, gentlemen, good luck.
02:43Okay, bachelor number one.
02:44If we were on a date, I'm sorry, if we were on a date and I missed a very romantic setting,
02:49I leaned over and whispered in your ear,
02:52What would your next move be?
02:57I would say, yeah, let's have dessert right away.
03:02I would say, sí, tengo mucho cariño para tú.
03:09Oh, thank you.
03:10Number two, how would you react?
03:12Well, I'd sort of cool the situation down.
03:16You see, English is my main language.
03:18I've been studying it for quite a few years now.
03:20You know, I'd try to get you to speak in English, but if everything else failed, you know, I'd just have to move on to body braille.
03:27Okay, thank you, number two.
03:32Bachelor number three.
03:33If you said you loved me and I said prove it, how would you do it?
03:37If I thought I loved you and you said to prove it, I'd just keep telling you and take you places and share things with you and just try to show you the only one for me.
03:45Oh, yes, very good.
03:47Number two, same question, please.
03:50Well, it's one of those deals, you know, you've got to take it real easy and, you know, you just don't blow your cool real fast.
03:58You know, you take it, you know, you go off someplace nice and quiet.
04:02Fine, thank you very much, uh-huh.
04:05Okay, Bachelor number one.
04:06If I were a princess and you were a frog that I found on a lily patty that I took home, put under my pillow, and during the night it turned into a handsome prince,
04:15well, how would you explain it to my father?
04:16And remember, nobody would believe a story like that.
04:19And you're a frog?
04:20No, you wouldn't.
04:21No, you were a frog.
04:23And I took you home, put you under the pillow, you changed into a prince.
04:28How would I explain to your father?
04:29Uh-huh.
04:30I would start telling him about my evolution from a frog to a prince and how you went through it with me.
04:38Uh-huh.
04:39I think that it would be very fascinating to go through one of these events with you and only with you.
04:45Okay.
04:45And I would make sure that your father knew that I wanted to be with you and would take very good care of you.
04:50Okay, thank you.
04:51Bachelor number two, I plan to be a ski instructorist and I spend a lot of time in the snow.
04:56How would you depress me on a first date?
04:58Well, I'd take you into a nice, quiet place, warm.
05:03Make sure it's warm.
05:05And, you know, a fireplace.
05:06I'd sit you down in a nice, warm, comfortable chair.
05:12Then I'd sit next to you on the arm of the chair and, you know, I'd, you know, just sort of talk to you for a while.
05:18Are you sure I'd defrost?
05:19You'd defrost.
05:20Okay.
05:21Leave me alone.
05:26All right.
05:27Bachelor number three.
05:29Everything has its own way of expressing its love to its mate.
05:31Pick something for us to be other than human beings and let me hear how you'd express your love for me if we were two of those.
05:38I think maybe we'd be two in palace and we'd just run along and run all over the countryside and I'd catch up with you and then I'd show you.
05:50All right.
05:50That's the signal, Linda.
05:51Time is up.
05:52And now you have a minute to make up your mind.
05:54So you just relax.
05:55Take that 60 seconds to analyze what the gentleman has said.
05:58And while she's making up her mind, we'll pause briefly for this communication.
06:15I love working here.
06:17It's exciting.
06:18Back to the dating game and, Linda, welcome back to you and your decision.
06:21The gentleman over there played very well, but only one can be your date.
06:25Now, which one will it be?
06:26Will it be Bachelor number one, Bachelor number two, or Bachelor number three?
06:31Linda, which one gets the date?
06:33Number two.
06:34Number two.
06:35All right.
06:39Congratulations to Bachelor number two.
06:41Linda, is there any particular reason why you selected him?
06:44Yeah, I like the way he defrosted me.
06:46Yeah, that was a pretty good idea you have there.
06:48And he assured you you'd be defrosted.
06:50Now, before we meet him and find out how well he can do, let's meet the other gentleman.
06:53Bachelor number one was a member of his championship tennis team in school, so he's a fine athlete.
06:59As a matter of fact, he wants to coach college football.
07:01He also has a sensitive side.
07:02He plays the piano, and he loves to just sit out there and fish.
07:05His name is Steve Martin.
07:07Steve, come on and say hello to Linda, please.
07:09Steve, very fine try.
07:13Thank you very much.
07:14You also didn't select Bachelor number three, Linda, who's going to be an attorney.
07:18That's his professional ambition.
07:20He was voted the most talkative senior award when he was in high school, which qualifies him definitely to be attorney.
07:25His name is Mike Glickson.
07:27Mike, come on and say hello.
07:27Mike, thank you very much for a delightful game.
07:34And knowing that girl watching is a year-round activity, fellas, we know you'll be able to use this wardrobe of the newest Cool Ray Polaroid sunglasses.
07:41They give you rugged and handsome protection from harsh glare all year round.
07:45You'll look as good to the world as it looks to you in Cool Ray Polaroid sunglasses.
07:49Also, perhaps you might like to tuck this powerful pocket radio into the glove compartment of your car without thanks.
07:55And again, thanks a lot.
07:56Steve, thank you.
07:57Mike, nice job.
07:58Are you ready, Linda?
08:00All right, I'd like to tell you something then about the gentleman that you selected for your date.
08:04He wants to open a surfboard shop.
08:07That's his ambition.
08:08He makes out-of-sight ceramics and hopes someday to make a trip like the endless summer, going around the world, surfing where the best waves are.
08:15Your date, Alan Adams.
08:16Alan, come on and say hello to Linda, please.
08:22Congratulations, Alan.
08:23Well, there are many definitions of the phrase, the scene, Linda, and most of them center around a section of our town known as the Strip.
08:31And that's where you'll be making the scene with Alan on your date.
08:33For dinner, you'll have a reservation waiting for you at Scandia, one of the most beautiful and best-known restaurants in America,
08:40with a menu of a Korean delight that just won't quit.
08:43After dinner, you'll be expected at Gazzari's A Go-Go in Hollywood, where you'll be swept under the wildest dancing happening in town.
08:49Then, back to the Strip to Cyrano's on the Strip for coffee, Italian pastries, and some quiet talk to anyone.
08:56Enjoy your date, and thank you very much.
08:58Thank you, Linda.
08:59Congratulations, Alan.
09:00Good luck.
09:00Well, black is the color of my true love's hair, sings a smitten troubadour.
09:08And color him gone, moans a deserted damsel.
09:10Well, here on our dating game, our gals and guys deal delightedly in all those bright red, blue, and yellow colors that are happiness, empathy, and love.
09:20And we have such a spectrum set up for game two.
09:23But first, these messages and pictures of three dating game couples doing the Mother Nature bit.
09:29Watch.
09:29Thank you very much, Johnny.
09:49Well, let's see what's happening along the sentimental spectrum, which our next set of bachelors are eager to inspect with our next fair lady.
09:56And here they are.
09:59Welcome to the dating game.
10:04In the swinging circles, his name is legend as one of Los Angeles' most popular DJs.
10:10He not only knows where it's happening, he makes it happen.
10:13He's branching out into motion pictures now as a producer and an actor, and we're certain he'll make his mark in that field, too.
10:19May we have a warm welcome for Casey Cashman.
10:23Casey.
10:23Bachelor number two is a professional photographer who works in the realm of motion picture advertising.
10:32He was born in Newark, New Jersey.
10:34And his name is Robert Rice.
10:36Bob, welcome to the show.
10:40And interested in Roman history, bachelor number three majored in history and speech in college.
10:44He's from Chicago, Illinois.
10:46Says he used to be able to do an accurate imitation of Al Jolson.
10:50His name is Peter Jacob.
10:53Yeah.
10:53And that's our panel of bachelors for game number two.
10:57Now, in order to keep our young lady from hearing the introductions of our three gentlemen, we've been keeping her isolated offstage in our soundproof room.
11:04And I'd like to introduce her to all of you right now.
11:06She's an airline hostess and hopes to continue in that field of work.
11:12She just returned from six months of studying and skiing in Switzerland.
11:16She loves learning about the world.
11:18From Great Falls, Montana, may we welcome Gail Rigglesworth.
11:22Hello, Gail.
11:24How are you?
11:25Yes.
11:25Nice to see you.
11:26Now, Gail, welcome back after your long trip.
11:29And we have three gentlemen who are going to vie to take you out on one of your first dates on returning.
11:34Now, of course, you make that selection on the basis of which one you like best.
11:38You know how we play, right?
11:39Right.
11:39Okay, we'll start with a hello then and see how they sound.
11:42Bachelor number one, would you say good afternoon to Gail?
11:44Hi, Gail.
11:45I love Montana.
11:46All right.
11:47Number two, how about you?
11:49Hawaii, Hawaii, Hawaii, Gail.
11:51And number three?
11:52Good afternoon, Gail.
11:54All right.
11:54You have your questions ready, Gail?
11:56If you would have a seat then, please, Gail.
11:57Make yourself comfortable.
11:58When you're ready, you may begin.
12:00And gentlemen, good luck.
12:02Bachelor number three, I like Hawaii, too.
12:05If you came to pick me up for our first date and my little sister pulled you aside and told you that she wanted to get married but that she can't until her older sister does, how would you handle the situation?
12:18She told me until her older sister did.
12:21Well, if you're as attractive as your voice is, I would say that she wouldn't have long to wait because of the sound of your voice.
12:34How about you, number two?
12:35How would you handle this situation?
12:37Darling, darling, after listening to your voice and imagining in my mind what you look like, I don't think she'd have long to wait at all.
12:45This is what you'd tell her.
12:46Do you think she'd be convinced about that?
12:49Well, if she wasn't, I might try to convince her in another way.
12:53Okay.
12:53And I might even try to speed things along myself.
12:56Okay, thank you.
12:58Bachelor number one, if we were both football players, would you prefer that we were on the same or opposing team?
13:03Well, on the same team, because I'll tell you why.
13:08There's one thing I love doing more than anything else, and that's doing homework on, you know, what plays we'd be working on.
13:14And I think of all kinds of wonderful plays to work on.
13:17I mean, in the evening.
13:17And then we'd put them to practice during the day.
13:20I just can't imagine you a football player, though.
13:25I'm not getting that direction either.
13:28Okay, thank you.
13:28How about your number three?
13:30Oh, I'd rather that we were on opposing teams.
13:33Then I could tackle you as often as I could.
13:38Would you do that very roughly?
13:39No, no, no, no.
13:41I'd try to get you down as comfortably as possible.
13:48Okay.
13:51Bachelor number two, I've always thought it would be so romantic if someone would write a poem, song, or a book about me.
13:58Which would you do, and what would you entitle it?
14:01I think I'd write a song about you, darling, and I'd call it Love of My Life.
14:06Would you please sing a line of that?
14:08Oh, I knew you were going to answer that.
14:12Love of my life, you beautiful girl.
14:17I'm running out of words.
14:18Oh, thank you.
14:19I thought you were.
14:20Number three, how about you?
14:22Which one would you do?
14:24Oh, I'd write a song about you called XYZ.
14:28Should I sing it to you?
14:29Oh.
14:31Please do.
14:32Oh, all right.
14:33You're X extra wonderful.
14:35No, X extra beautiful.
14:37Y young and wonderful.
14:38Z zig-a-zagging in my ha-ha-ha.
14:41That was great.
14:50Okay, Bachelor number one, if you lived in your dream bachelor pad, what would be my favorite thing about it or my favorite object in it?
14:56Well, you see, if we had a dream bachelor pad, there wouldn't be anything in it.
15:00We?
15:01Just, didn't you say we?
15:03No, you're a bachelor pad.
15:04Oh, my bachelor pad.
15:05Well, I wouldn't leave it a bachelor pad for long.
15:08Having heard your voice and knowing where you're from, and just after spending a little bit of time with you,
15:13I'm sure that we would make it a pad for two.
15:17Okay, how about shoe number three?
15:19Bachelor pad?
15:20What would I do to make it live?
15:22No, what would be my favorite thing about your dream bachelor pad or my favorite object in it?
15:26Oh, well, the favorite object in my bachelor pad would be the...
15:34All right, good job.
15:38That's it, Gail.
15:39Time is up.
15:40And now while Gail decides on her date, takes the next 60 seconds to do that,
15:44we'll pause for those 60 for this important message.
15:50Dating game, and it's time now for you to make your decision, Gail.
16:07One of those gentlemen over there is going to be your date.
16:09Now, the question is, which one will it be?
16:11Will it be bachelor number one, bachelor number two, or bachelor number three?
16:16Gail, which one is your choice?
16:18Well, it was difficult, but I think bachelor number three.
16:21Number three.
16:22All right.
16:26Congratulations to bachelor number three.
16:28Is there any particular reason why you selected him, Gail?
16:31Well, I really like that song, and I'd also like to practice, talk about these football players.
16:36Oh, yeah.
16:36Well, he's going to be on the opposite team, isn't he?
16:38All right.
16:39Well, all right.
16:40We'll meet him in just a moment, Gail.
16:41But first, let's meet the other gentleman.
16:43You didn't select bachelor number one, who was one of Los Angeles' most popular disc jockeys.
16:47He's going into movies as a producer and an actor, and we wish him the best of luck, Casey Kasem.
16:52Casey, come on and say hello to Gail, if you would.
16:57Casey, nice to see you.
16:58Good to see you, Gail.
16:59Did a fine job.
17:00You also didn't select bachelor number two, Gail, and he is a professional photographer in the motion picture advertising area.
17:07He's originally from Newark, New Jersey, Mr. Robert Price.
17:10Bob, come on and say hello to Gail, if you would.
17:11Bob, thank you for a fine job, too.
17:17The competition was a wee bit rough over there this afternoon, and gentlemen, many thanks for bringing your wit and your warmth to the show.
17:23And for each of you, we have a special gift combination of Russian leather products, including cologne by executive with its golden medallion chain.
17:30The long-lasting fragrance of Russian leather makes it the preference of men everywhere.
17:34And again, thank you so much.
17:35Bob, thank you.
17:36Casey, good luck to you.
17:37Okay, it's time now, Gail, to meet your date, our singer, and I'd like to tell you a bit about him.
17:44He is very interested in Roman history.
17:46As a matter of fact, he studied history in school.
17:48He says he used to do an accurate imitation of Al Jolson, singing XYZ, probably.
17:53From Chicago, Illinois, Peter Jacob.
17:56Peter, come on and say hello to Gail.
18:01Congratulations, Peter.
18:02Well, you hit some places, Gail, which automatically turn you on.
18:06It's an experience that everybody enjoys.
18:08And I'm sure you'll be turned on when we fly U-2 to Las Vegas, Nevada.
18:17Yes, you couldn't ask for more Turned On Town.
18:19It runs 24 hours a day.
18:20You'll be the special guest of the Sands Hotel.
18:23They'll have a ringside table waiting for you for dinner.
18:25And then on stage, Jack and Trotter presents a brand-new show starring comedian Alan King
18:31and a gal with the same first name as you, Gail, only she's Dean Martin's daughter, Gail Martin.
18:36So have a wonderful time, and thank you very much.
18:38Right out that way.
18:40Thank you so much.
18:40Don't get lost, Gail.
18:42The life of a celebrity can be a rather hectic affair,
18:46and every now and then, one of our dating game couples experiences that routine.
18:50Ron Phillips and Colleen Mully found it a fascinating experience,
18:53and we'll join them at the 1968 Southern California Exposition.
18:58On film, of course, following these good words.
19:01We're the Southern California Exposition at Del Mar,
19:04and there were more than 35,000 exhibits to delight the fair visitors.
19:09And, of course, our dating couple was there, Ron Phillips and Colleen Mully,
19:13who were plunged right into the center of all that excitement.
19:17Hey, a mariachi band was there to help welcome them.
19:19Minutes later, they were hustled aboard a fair tram
19:25to keep a date, meet the crowd, gathered outside.
19:29And that was just the beginning of their personal appearance.
19:32Well, they did have a chance to stroll along the midway,
19:51and Ron bought Colleen a souvenir there of the day at the fair,
19:55and then it was time to leave.
19:56And they just had a chance to say goodbye to their gracious hostess and genial host.
20:02And out of the celebrity spotlight, they settled down for a quiet dinner for two.
20:07All right, kids, dig in.
20:10And there we leave Ron Phillips and Colleen Mully,
20:12who went off to the 1968 Southern California Exposition at Del Mar, California.
20:17But don't forget to join us tomorrow if you would,
20:19and also remember, you can see the dating game every Saturday evening in rosy, romantic home.
20:25First of all, Alan, congratulations.
20:26You'll be off to the sunset strip.
20:28Have a ball.
20:29Thank you, Linda.
20:29You look very lovely.
20:31Congratulations, children.
20:32Have fun in Las Vegas.
20:33Gail, thank you, dear.
20:34Well, that's it for today.
20:36Jim Lang saying bye-bye,
20:37and I hope you always get the date that you really, really want.
20:41Ready to go, kids?
20:42Yes.
