All set for opening of 65th Palarong Pambansa in Ilocos Norte
Despite issues like water supply, Education Undersecretary Malcolm Garma tells a press conference on May 23, 2025 that the Department of Education is ready for the opening of the 65th Palarong Pambansa at the Ferdinand E. Marcos Memorial Stadium (FEMMS) in Ilocos Norte on May 24. Garma said concerns over water supply in some billeting quarters were raised since most of the schools that serve as accommodation for the delegates weren’t designed or used for huge water consumption. Garma also assured that the venues, the FEMMS' track oval and swimming pool, meet the required standards and measurements. This is in response to last year's event in Cebu where some records weren’t recognized after it was discovered that the Cebu City Sports Center track oval was two meters short of the standard 400 meters.

00:39Number one, they are very satisfied with the accommodations that are being afforded to them in terms of the basic amenities.
00:46Isa lang po talaga yung problema natin, tubig, yung supply ng water.
00:50And this is perennial, hindi lang po ito dito sa Ilocos, Norte.
00:55In every Palaro, yung po talaga yung nagiging problem ng tubig.
00:58Because our schools that are being used as Billiting Quarters, these are, they are not used or that, hindi talaga sila nakadesign.
01:06To accommodate that kind of population, both daytime and nighttime, that we consume water.
01:12Since we have already established, already finalized the date of the Palaro, this is 24 of May, we already started concretizing our plans preparation for the playing venues.
01:29And part of that, is really to make sure that all our playing venues are really the required standards.
01:36We, uh, uh, solicited the help of the Appellative Support Commission and the Bar to the MSC, and together with our other program directors, our officials,
01:48uh, we'll be going around, uh, checking the plan and, uh, the venues, or the final day venues, uh, making sure that number one, it's really the standard.
02:00Second, the, uh, playability of the, uh, least venue.
02:04Uh, and third, yung condition po natin, making sure that they are stable.
02:08So, in fact, sir, we already have two, uh, fine, uh, technical conferences, uh, prior to the Palaro, kong bansa.
02:17At malaking, uh, bahagi po ng technical conferences na yon is really to make sure that our venues are ready to be the standard.
02:25And even, uh, in fact, sir, simula po kahapon, hanggang ngayon, ako po mismo yung natiikot sa ating mga playing venues.
02:33Uh, number one consideration natin, sir, important, of course, we recognize the importance of the standards.
02:40Pero ang, uh, isa po sa major concern natin ngayon, yung condition of the event is that, with regards to the Innovative Index.
02:49So, kahit po ignore yan, minsan talaga hindi po kaya, uh, dahil sa sobrang hindi po.
02:55And this is why we are making sure to our tournament directors that, uh, kung hindi po kaya yung e-meduring the venue ng ating mga play venues,
03:06we will give a very window, uh, time for the, for play windows, no?
03:11Uh, for example, uh, hanggang tema po ang sa umaga ng laro at mag-reserve ng photo ng TV.
03:17So, that's, that's, uh, our assurance.
