00:00We do not have a genocide in South Africa.
00:03This South African farmer wants to set the record straight.
00:06He wrote an open letter to U.S. President Donald Trump
00:09after Trump offered Afrikaner farmers refugee status.
00:13But it's a genocide that's taking place that you people don't want to write about.
00:17But it's a terrible thing that's taking place.
00:19And farmers are being killed.
00:23They happen to be white.
00:24The first group of 59 Afrikaners traveled to the U.S. in early May.
00:28It has raised questions about why a group of white South Africans
00:32of Dutch and French descent are being granted refugee status
00:35when the Trump administration has stopped all other refugee programs.
00:40De Acha represents a large farmer organization
00:42which has members across South Africa.
00:45He says while it's true that farm murders are a major problem,
00:49Trump hasn't got the facts straight.
00:51I wrote the letter to Trump because I feared that he might have a misunderstanding
00:55of what is going on here.
00:57We thanked him for having sympathy with our cause.
01:01But we also said rather help us to make things better here.
01:06Help us to, within our lifetime, fix the problems we have here.
01:10And it's not only a race thing.
01:13Black farmers have similar problems too.
01:15And we need those problems also to be attended to.
01:18Trump's genocide claims are a result of brutal attacks on farmers in South Africa.
01:23Most of the murders happened during armed robberies.
01:26And those we spoke to say while they are concerned about farm murders,
01:30they don't want to leave South Africa.
01:33If people want to do it, I think it's a good idea.
01:36It gives them an option out if they want.
01:39But I personally would not do it.
01:41This is my country.
01:42And that is something that Mandela fought for.
01:48It's for freedom for all.
