00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World. My name is Theo and today is another lovely day here in the city of Manchester and we're back on the topic of transport, particularly green transport, with exciting news about the styling bank bikes that you can find dotted around the city.
00:14Now the bikes have been a massive success since their implementation a couple of years ago and you can scarcely walk a hundred yards down the street now without seeing someone riding one.
00:22They've become a massive part of getting around the city and a huge part of the drive to try and remove cars from the streets of the city centre and the region as a whole.
00:31Now I've done multiple videos using them and almost exclusively used them to get to locations now because of their convenience, affordability and minimal environmental impact.
00:39The scheme has been such a success in fact that 300 new e-bikes are being introduced to the region just this month.
00:45Now it's going to give users more choice over the bikes that they use with the new bikes being lighter and having a much larger basket on the front.
00:53The new bikes are electric because they're the most popular to ride, tending to be ridden further and twice as often as the regular pedal bikes that you see in some of the stations.
01:01Now with Transport of Greater Manchester aiming to enable one million more sustainable journeys each day by 2040, these new bikes will continue to remove cars from the road and make transport easier and quicker for those who live in the region,
01:12as well as working together with the B-network buses and trams to again keep cars off the road.
01:16Now the number of users on the bikes is already incredibly high, Starling Bank bike users have clocked up well over a million rides since their introduction with almost 1,700 rides per day being made as of April 2025.
01:28It's well worth getting out and giving them a try if you haven't already, bikes generally cost either 50p or a pound to unlock and then 5p per minute of cycling so it's affordable and convenient to get around on them and on a sunny day like this,
01:40it can be a great way to get a bit of exercise too.
01:42That's all for now, follow Manchester World for more.
