Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp says the fall in immigration numbers are down to “decisions taken by the last Conservative government” but are still “not enough” and “need to go down further”. 00:00The decisions taken by the last Conservative government implemented in April of last year have meant these net migration figures have fallen enormously by 430,000 they've halved but let me be honest those steps are not enough these numbers need to go down further that's why we Conservatives have proposed a binding annual cap to be set by Parliament each year at far lower levels but what did Labour do this week they voted against it.
00:24The changes to the migration laws and rules were made by the last government the new Labour government has not changed them at all in fact the only change they've made is to make them weaker there was a further increase in visa threshold that was due to happen they've postponed all of these rule changes that have reduced migration were made by the last Conservative government that was the right thing to do but we now need to go a lot further and reduce these numbers even more.
00:47Net migration has been far too high for decades under successive governments and yes in recent years migration has been far too high that was a really serious mistake in my view it's good that net migration today has halved thanks to the last government but it needs to come down a lot lot further that is the truth.
01:05We Conservatives we Conservatives have developed a credible detailed plan to do that we're the only party to have done that reform certainly hasn't we tabled actually a bill to do that just last week which Labour voted against there's now only one party with a credible plan to reduce migration even further and that is the Conservative Party.
