00:00Plans are underway for a new mural of Virgil van Dijk near Anfield, set to become a striking
00:07tribute to the Dutch defenders' outstanding season.
00:11The artwork, currently being created by Muirwools, the artist behind many of Liverpool's iconic
00:16fan murals, is located on Coningsby Road, just off Anfield Road and opposite the famous
00:22Robbie Fowler tribute.
00:25The mural is expected to be completed before Liverpool's final Premier League game against
00:30Crystal Palace, where van Dijk will make history as the first Dutch captain to lift the Premier
00:35League trophy.
00:37His leadership has been a vital factor in Liverpool's success under Arnie Schlott, anchoring a defence
00:43that was key to their title-winning campaign.
00:46Van Dijk's influence both on and off the pitch has earned him a place alongside Liverpool legends
00:52Mohamed Salah, Alisson Becker and Roberto Firmino, whose faces also adorn walls near the stadium.
01:00We knew and we still know how hard it is to win a game of football in this league so that
01:04we were one of the teams that could win it.
01:06I think that was quite clear from maybe, I don't know, maybe even from pre-season onwards.
01:12But then you need to have consistency and that's difficult, but we had that and that's the reason
01:18why we probably deserved to win it.
01:21If you have a margin like we have, I think it's fair to say that we deserved to win this
01:25league this season.
01:26Meanwhile, discussions continue over the future of the existing mural honouring Trent Alexander-Arnold.
01:33The 26-year-old right-back, whose three-storey mural stands at the corner of Seibel Street
01:39and Anfield Road, is set to leave Liverpool this summer to join Real Madrid.
01:45The mural was unveiled in 2019 after a remarkable season for Alexander-Arnold and was commissioned
01:52by the Anfield Wrap to celebrate Liverpool's Champions League victory.
01:57Despite a mixed emotion from fans during the match against Arsenal, Alexander-Arnold has
02:03expressed hope that his mural will remain for a long time, serving as a lasting reminder
02:08of his contributions to Liverpool's recent golden era.
