Rebecca Robertson's Son Didn't Understand He was Half Asian: ‘I’m a Boy’

00:00I wanted to ask, what have you told Zane so far?

00:02And what do you intend to tell your kids about your own story as it relates to adoption and about their Taiwanese heritage?

00:10So we've kind of been talking about, like, he's been to Taiwan a few times.

00:16And, you know, he's very aware and sensitive, so to speak.

00:23We were talking about, you know, he always said, like, oh, you know, he called himself the Robertson.

00:29And he would always say, like, he told everyone he's the Robertson.

00:34Like, it's so funny. I don't even know, like, since he was, like, three, you know.

00:37So we were trying to explain to him, like, how I came into the family, how you became, you know, part of the family and his heritage.

00:45And we try to go to Taiwan once a year so he would see that.

00:52So now he knows he's part Asian because at first when we told him he was half Asian,

00:58he told, he was so upset, he said, I'm not half Asian, I'm a boy.

01:03And so he didn't understand, like, when he was a baby.

01:06But now he kind of understand he's very proud of, like, having that, you know,

01:12multiple, like, multiple, like, different culture in him.

01:16And he's very interested.

01:17And we're planning on a trip to visit Taiwan again this summer.

01:21And so, yeah, I feel like this year is, like, the year he really, like, kind of understand

01:27or learning about geography at school and all kind of stuff.

01:31Yeah.
