00:00Well, looking at the next managerial odds for Cardiff City,
00:06there's a few names who've been thrown into the hat.
00:08Of course, Aaron Ramsey, one of them,
00:10following his interim stay in charge of the club at the end of last season.
00:14Very, very brief, of course, following Omariza being sacked.
00:19Ramsey, of course, a Cardiff boy, loves the club,
00:22but is he experienced enough, especially at that level, to take Cardiff on?
00:27And you could argue, yes, he has the passion and the pride to be the head coach of Cardiff going forward,
00:31but does he have experience at that level of English football?
00:34That's to be debated.
00:36And so, therefore, there are other candidates, other names being mentioned around the media.
00:41You could look at the likes of Gary O'Neill, of course, a former Premier League manager,
00:44with the likes of Bournemouth and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
00:46Steven Gerrard, even, his name has been touted in there as well.
00:50It's great success with the Rangers, not so much with Aston Villa,
00:54and then, of course, spells abroad as well, recently.
00:57So, there's two names.
00:59You could look at Rob Lewis, who was at Luton Town, of course, as well.
01:04Did great work in getting them to the Premier League,
01:06but then, of course, this season they did go back down to League One.
01:09So, you could argue he's perhaps a shrewd move in terms of getting them up.
01:14That could be one to look at, certainly.
01:16Or do they, as I say, stay with Aaron Ramsey?
01:18It's perhaps a bit of a gamble if they do so,
01:20but it could prove to be one that is popular with the supporters.
01:25But maybe the supporters also want someone who knows this division
01:27or at least has a bit more managerial prowess than Ramsey does.
01:30So, Charles, let's go to our Wales correspondent, Charles Hague-Jones.
01:34Charles, who are we looking at, in your opinion,
01:37in terms of the next Cardiff City manager,
01:39and who would you say is best suited to the job
01:42of getting them out of League One as soon as possible?
01:44Thanks, Dan.
01:46Yes, obviously, Aaron Ramsey, the big name linked.
01:50And yes, it's certainly a gamble.
01:52There's no denying that.
01:54But also, I think, you know, gambles can pay off.
01:57Big risk, big reward sometimes is the way it works,
02:00especially in sport and in this sort of moment as well.
02:04You know, a real chance to go and get a League One promotion
02:08for Aaron Ramsey and start his coaching career.
02:10You know, he's made it clear he wants to continue to play
02:13in Wales' squad in terms of the World Cup coming up in 2026.
02:17So, that's fair enough.
02:18But he's also had huge boosts from the likes of Craig Bellamy,
02:21the current Wales manager, saying, you know,
02:24Ramsey would make a fantastic candidate, a fantastic coach one day.
02:27Why not start now is the way I'm looking at it.
02:29You know, as you say, Cardiff Bourne had an amazing career
02:33throughout, you know, the top tiers of, you know, Italy, England.
02:38He's worked with many fantastic managers as well.
02:41So, he's got a lot of experience, which is great to see as well.
02:45So, yes, Aaron Ramsey is obviously going to be,
02:48his name is going to be fluttering around after the, you know,
02:50taking over interim manager at the back end of the season.
02:54But there are a few things that they need to get right.
02:57And that is, you know, away from Ramsey,
02:59let's look at a few of the candidates.
03:01Promotion experience is a massive, massive, you know,
03:05thing that they need to make sure.
03:06Now, obviously, they're going to be aiming for a swift return.
03:10They want to go straight back up to the championship.
03:12There's no denying that because if they don't,
03:14it is a slippery slope.
03:16You know, they are going to be prioritising candidates
03:18with a proven track record of achieving promotion from League One.
03:23You know, we can't always have the investment of Birmingham City
03:25in the gamble with Chris Davis,
03:27obviously coming from a Spurs coaching role.
03:29So, his first managerial job,
03:31but the backing he had in the window,
03:33very, very different to what Cardiff City are going to have.
03:36They want in alignment with the club's ownership as well.
03:39Obviously, Vincent Tan has a history of being, you know,
03:42hands-on in managerial decisions.
03:44I'm sure that's going to probably continue.
03:47And then you look at financial considerations
03:49and fan engagement.
03:51You know, the fans have been really, really left in the dark
03:53over the last season or so.
03:55They want to make sure they're back to understanding the plan,
03:58understanding the long-term vision of both the ownership plans
04:02and the managerial situation.
04:04You know, simple, you know, that manager,
04:07whoever it is, is going to walk in on day one
04:09and it will say on the board, you know,
04:11get back to the championship.
04:12That's going to be the main goal.
04:14Experience promotion as well.
04:16So, that could be a gamble, but it could also pay off.
04:20And then Ruben Sells as well, the Reading manager,
04:22noted for his tactical approach.
04:24Though, you know, it would be concerns about
04:26his fit with Cardiff's ownership situation there.
04:30So, there are a few names fluttering around.
04:32They need to get it in soon and they need to get it right
04:35because it's a massive season ahead for Cardiff City
04:38in League One, one they hope will only be one season
04:40and they'll be back to the championship.
