00:00Well, we've spoken a lot this summer so far about the ambitions of Cardiff City
00:07now that they've been renegated down to League One from the Championship.
00:11But of course, now we're in the summer and things are starting to get a bit real for the club,
00:14realising that they are indeed in England's third tier,
00:17and that they need to sort that out quickly, have a reset at the club.
00:21What are the ambitions for this season?
00:22Is it straight away to be promoted?
00:25Is it to consolidate?
00:26Because of course the club did need, let's be honest, a big reset they've now brought in.
00:30A new head coach, replacing Omariza as well.
00:33So how does Cardiff approach this summer and the upcoming season?
00:38Will there be lots of sort of, will there be doubts if Cardiff on really towards the end of the table
00:44come, say, the start of the winter and the turn of the year?
00:47Or will supporters actually be thinking, OK, you know, the club needed a lot of things to be changed in it.
00:52And so we can't rush their progress too much because just how poor things were last season in the Championship.
00:58So let's go now to our Wales sport correspondent, Charles Higg-Jones.
01:03Charles, what are Cardiff looking for this season?
01:06Under the new management, with perhaps fresh ambition from the board to really turn things around,
01:12what can we expect from Cardiff City as a club?
01:14Are they wanting to be promoted?
01:16Is that the aim?
01:18Is that exactly where they want to be?
01:19Do they want to be challenging at the top?
01:21Or do they realise that that's going to be quite an ask because of just where the club was?
01:25And do they actually need to consolidate for a bit of time?
01:27And even if that means pushing on towards the end of the season,
01:30but that fans shouldn't get too disappointed if things don't click straight away
01:33when the season gets underway in August.
01:35What are your thoughts?
01:38Yeah, for Cardiff City, obviously, you know, you look at the season,
01:41you look at it all on paper with the fixtures going to be released
01:45and the way things have gone across this summer so far.
01:48Obviously, Barry Murphy coming in, I mean, that's a massive appointment.
01:52It's an appointment with a bit of intent, I feel.
01:55You know, the simple steps to achieving legal promotion at the moment,
02:02you know, firstly, it is sort of a bit of an overhaul, a bit of key departures.
02:05We've seen it with the likes of, you know, Wolves in the past,
02:09Birmingham City last season, Wrexham on the rise as well.
02:13But, you know, in terms of the first two there,
02:15they went down from the championship in dire straits,
02:17in dire need of a bit of revival.
02:20And Cardiff City are going to have to use Birmingham City as a bit of a,
02:24you know, an example, a bit of a case study.
02:27Obviously, you know, not as easy without that huge, huge investment from overseas.
02:32But, you know, it's real simple that these are things they have to get right.
02:39These are things they have to get done early as well.
02:41You know, you mentioned when relegation happens, it's all about rebuilding.
02:46And however quick that takes, you know, you can be stuck down there for a number of seasons.
02:51You know, look at the likes of Sunderland,
02:53who are now back in the Premier League after all that time as well.
02:57So, yeah, it's obviously a massive, massive ambition to get promoted.
03:02They won't really want to mess around.
03:03They want nothing less than promotion.
03:05You feel that, you know, at the end of the day, it's cautious but hopeful.
03:12And you feel that anything but promotion, but returning to the championship
03:17at the first time of asking will be a failure.
03:19And the Cardiff fans will believe in that.
03:21They'll believe because they have such high expectations of this group.
03:24You know, you look at the young players, the exciting youngsters throughout the side
03:30who are obviously left out of the Wales squad as well for the last sort of World Cup qualifying campaign.
03:36And that shows the sort of where Cardiff City are at as a group, as a team, as a club at the moment.
03:42They are just falling short.
03:43But they are entering this post-relegation reset.
03:47They need to ensure it.
03:49Obviously, they've got the new manager in.
03:50Barry Murphy comes with a load of experience.
03:53I feel it could be a real perfect match.
03:56You know, he's helped get the best out of the likes of Cole Palmer, Romeo Lavia at Manchester City.
04:00So, he's got a load of experience, a load of focus on youth.
04:04And I feel that's where Cardiff are going to get this right.
04:07You know, Vincent Tan said he's involved.
04:09He's really happy with Barry Murphy as the appointment.
04:12And, you know, managerial-wise, and Barry Murphy's words have been fantastic since he, you know, first joined.
04:19He's really getting a statement out there that, you know, this is the club he wants.
04:23This is the ambition, the project that he wants to build in with Cardiff City.
04:28And he's hoping he'll go to plan.
04:30And I'm sure, you know, Cardiff City fans are very excited for what's to come.
04:34They've got to enjoy League One.
04:35You know, they can't just change it.
04:36They can't change the past now.
04:38They have to enjoy it.
04:39They have to relish it.
04:41And hopefully go up at the first time of asking.
