00:00In the New Decade New Approach, the UK Government committed to make funding available for a
00:04range of projects aimed at supporting community and reconciliation initiatives.
00:09My officials regularly discuss these commitments with their devolved counterparts.
00:13On Addiction Services, it is now for the Northern Ireland Department for Health to consider
00:17how best to use this funding and bring forth a business case to the Government on that
00:22basis.
00:23The people of Derry were made a promise during the NDNA negotiations.
00:30I remember, because I negotiated that particular part of it, where the Northland Centre would
00:35get £1 million for the redevelopment of a brand-new centre for addiction.
00:39The Northland organisation has saved countless lives in Derry.
00:44Now they have been told by the Department of Health and Stormont that their core funding
00:47has been cut and that this money is not guaranteed to them.
00:51Does the Minister agree with me that the Department of Health is in no position at all to undermine
00:56an international agreement?
00:58The honourable member is a powerful advocate for his constituents, for the Northland Centre
01:04and for the need for services to tackle the scourge of addictions.
01:07I join him in recognising the need for support for people with addictions, but it is now up
01:12to the Department of Health—it has devolved—to bring forward a business plan based on their
01:16review of addiction services for what will provide the best support to the most people.
