00:00:00The highest scorer in a Premier League season.
00:00:30Can you believe this?
00:00:45It is a beauty.
00:00:54That is outstanding.
00:01:05Unstoppable.
00:01:08Champions Liverpool are back in action tonight,
00:01:10having long since sewn up the title,
00:01:13but beneath them there is a furious race on
00:01:15for the remaining three Champions League places up for grabs
00:01:19and Aston Villa have the momentum.
00:01:21Eight wins out of nine now for them,
00:01:23having beaten Spurs on Friday night,
00:01:25while the other Europa League finalists,
00:01:26Manchester United, were beaten at Chelsea.
00:01:29Four wins out of five now for Enzo Maresco's side,
00:01:32sewing up the season at Stamford Bridge in style.
00:01:35So pressure on Nottingham Forest and how well they responded.
00:01:38On Super Sunday, getting in front against the Hammers
00:01:41and Nuna's side managed to hang on.
00:01:44Arsenal also had work to do to get over the line,
00:01:46which they duly did, clinching their place in the Champions League,
00:01:50but Newcastle United, though,
00:01:51they might have to win on the final day.
00:01:54So relief around North London,
00:01:56but across the city in North West London,
00:01:59the biggest celebrations of the weekend came at Wembley,
00:02:02where Crystal Palace got their hands on the FA Cup
00:02:05for the first time in their history,
00:02:07into Europe for the first time in their history as well.
00:02:10But eighth place might still be enough
00:02:13to steal a place in Europe next season,
00:02:15and Brighton will be in pole position
00:02:18if they can beat Liverpool tonight,
00:02:20live on the Monday Night Football.
00:02:24And when the Seagulls lost at Brentford to go five without a win
00:02:27on the back of an FA Cup quarter-final exit,
00:02:30their season looked to be fizzling out,
00:02:32but they've responded well
00:02:34with a dramatic comeback against West Ham,
00:02:37a point against Newcastle,
00:02:39and then winning at Wolves last weekend.
00:02:42Greener!
00:02:43Greener finds the finish,
00:02:45scores his first goal in English football
00:02:48to keep alive Brighton's hopes
00:02:50of playing European football next season.
00:02:54And they are already seven points up on last season
00:02:57with the league's second-youngest team
00:02:59and the league's youngest head coach at the helm.
00:03:02Two games to go,
00:03:03the prospect of a second-ever season in Europe
00:03:06remains a possibility for the Seagulls.
00:03:09So tonight they face the champions, Liverpool.
00:03:13Here they come.
00:03:14They just sealed their 20th league title
00:03:16with four games to go
00:03:18and perhaps a predictable drop in intensity since then,
00:03:22losing at Chelsea
00:03:23and losing a two-goal lead at home to Arsenal last time out.
00:03:27What will they have
00:03:28when they arrive at the American Express Stadium this evening?
00:03:35Well, they can still reach 89 points
00:03:37with two wins from their last two,
00:03:39but the hard work, as we know, is already done.
00:03:41Arsenal all but tied up second,
00:03:43the rest really sweating over their destiny.
00:03:46Brighton in ninth
00:03:48can go three clear of Brentford in eighth tonight.
00:03:57Very good evening to you.
00:03:58We didn't get much of a title race, did we, in the end,
00:04:01but it is all to play for in the race for Europe.
00:04:05And joining us as we head
00:04:06into this final Monday Night Football of the season,
00:04:09Gary Neville joining Jamie Carragher.
00:04:12And that means we've got our Monday Night Football
00:04:14end-of-season awards to give out later
00:04:17and the teams of the season as well.
00:04:19We wonder if any surprises are in store
00:04:22or will be revealed later.
00:04:24But tonight it's all to play for at the American Express Stadium
00:04:28because of these two scenarios,
00:04:30which could still mean Europe for eighth place.
00:04:33If Chelsea finish seventh and win the Conference League,
00:04:37eighth place would be playing in Europe,
00:04:39or if Chelsea finish sixth and win the Conference League
00:04:43and Newcastle finish in seventh.
00:04:46So they've just got to keep winning, Gary.
00:04:48Who?
00:04:49Brighton.
00:04:50All of them.
00:04:52Brighton, who we watched tonight.
00:04:55Well, they do, and to be fair,
00:04:56there's a bit of pressure coming on Brighton,
00:04:58but I'm not quite sure where from.
00:04:59Maybe it's from the big spend last summer,
00:05:00but Brighton is still having a good season.
00:05:02Where would they expect to finish?
00:05:03I think they'll be quite calm and stable,
00:05:05seven points ahead of where they were last season.
00:05:07You said it in the build-up,
00:05:09that the youngest manager in the league
00:05:10and the second-youngest squad.
00:05:11So I'm still confident about Brighton.
00:05:13I don't think they should put too much pressure on themselves.
00:05:16It's a lovely place for Liverpool to be,
00:05:18to be up there, you know,
00:05:19won the league, enjoy their celebrations,
00:05:21while everyone else, pretty much apart from Arsenal,
00:05:23is still sweating.
00:05:25Yeah, it's funny being a Liverpool supporter
00:05:27and that sort of week or so,
00:05:28because it almost feels in some ways that the league's finished.
00:05:30There's almost more talk.
00:05:31The two big things Liverpool are talking about now,
00:05:33supporters are,
00:05:35Liverpool are signing.
00:05:36There's lots of, you know,
00:05:37it looks like they've got Fringpong over the line.
00:05:39There's talk of maybe, you know,
00:05:41Kerkes coming in, just a few rumours starting.
00:05:43That normally starts at the end of the season.
00:05:45And the other one is about the parade
00:05:46after the Crystal Palace game.
00:05:47It's not really so much about the actual football,
00:05:50but listen, there is two games to go.
00:05:52And as I said, you just mentioned there,
00:05:53they can get to 89 points.
00:05:54That's what I'm sure they'll like to do.
00:05:56So Brighton chasing this victory tonight,
00:05:57which will get them into eighth place
00:05:59and it would go into their hands
00:06:00because of what happened between Brentford
00:06:02and Fulham this weekend.
00:06:04Brentford thought they were in control.
00:06:06Fulham had other ideas.
00:06:08And what a goal to win it for Fulham.
00:06:10Not for the first time this season in this fixture.
00:06:12No, that was a Monday Night Fixture, wasn't it?
00:06:15Fulham v. Brentford and Harry Wilson came off the,
00:06:19I'm not sure if he came off the bench that day,
00:06:21but he came off the bench, yeah.
00:06:22And he got a couple of goals later on.
00:06:24So he's only actually got six Premier League goals this season.
00:06:2650% of them have come.
00:06:29Against Brentford.
00:06:30So there he'll be...
00:06:31And you wonder why so few when you see this kind of quality.
00:06:33Yeah, I mean, it's brilliant.
00:06:34But when you think about what he did to them
00:06:37earlier on in the season,
00:06:38every time he gets the ball in there,
00:06:40he can't be allowed to go there.
00:06:43He has to go there, surely.
00:06:44I mean, you know, he's caused them huge problems this season.
00:06:47Now, there's a run here, don't get me wrong,
00:06:51from the Fulham player in behind,
00:06:52drags some players across.
00:06:54But what I would say here from Siade,
00:06:56I think it's Siade coming back,
00:06:59just hold your ground.
00:07:00Don't let him come across.
00:07:01He almost just drops back into position,
00:07:03lets him come across.
00:07:04It's far too easy.
00:07:05We run it on and listen,
00:07:08he doesn't play too often,
00:07:09but he has got an absolute wand of a left foot.
00:07:12And that's fantastic.
00:07:13So we looked at it from Brentford's point of view,
00:07:15but the goalkeeper stood still,
00:07:18comes to a lot of bodies,
00:07:19but we've seen that lad do that before.
00:07:21And especially against that opposition.
00:07:23Tom Kenny also scored from the bench as well.
00:07:25And those two goals by subs meant that Fulham
00:07:28set a new Premier League record for goals by substitutes.
00:07:3217 set this season,
00:07:35and puts them still in the mix for eighth place as well.
00:07:39Marco Silva driving them on.
00:07:41They play Manchester City at home on the final day.
00:07:45Bournemouth also have to play Manchester City,
00:07:47that's on Tuesday.
00:07:48How do you see it, Gary?
00:07:50I mean, because of how Liverpool have been
00:07:52in the last couple of weeks,
00:07:53I think Brighton have got a great chance tonight.
00:07:55And that would still be a really good finish
00:07:57to the season for them.
00:07:58All them clubs there that are in that four are doing well.
00:08:01They're doing really well.
00:08:02Obviously, the battle against each other
00:08:03makes a big difference from a financial perspective,
00:08:05but you're splitting hairs, really,
00:08:07to say that any of those clubs are not doing really well.
00:08:09I mean, think about the teams that are below them
00:08:11that have spent a lot more money.
00:08:12Fancy anyone over others?
00:08:15No, not really.
00:08:16As I said, I think they're probably all,
00:08:18not happy with where they are,
00:08:19but I always feel the end of a season
00:08:21cannot mask things or make things look a lot better.
00:08:25But I always think near the end of the season,
00:08:26sometimes teams aren't really at it.
00:08:28You win your last two or three games,
00:08:29you've got a completely different sort of shift
00:08:31or idea of how the season's been.
00:08:33For the majority of you, you just think you're doing okay.
00:08:35Before you know it, Brighton could be in a position,
00:08:37really high points total,
00:08:38and it almost shifts what the sort of narrative's been,
00:08:41certainly for the last couple of months.
00:08:42Bournemouth have had a really good season as well, haven't they?
00:08:44How they would love to win their final two games,
00:08:46starting tomorrow night when they head to Manchester City.
00:08:49Huge game, of course, for City,
00:08:50this in the race for Champions League football as well.
00:08:53You'll see our coverage getting underway
00:08:55from seven o'clock tomorrow.
00:08:58What joyous scenes.
00:09:00We were treated to at Wembley on Saturday
00:09:03as Crystal Palace got their hands on the FA Cup
00:09:06for the first time, Gary.
00:09:07This was really special, wasn't it?
00:09:09Amazing, and what the FA Cup's all about,
00:09:11if you think of the great underdog stories
00:09:12over the last 100 years,
00:09:14and you think about this is one of the best.
00:09:16Crystal Palace, the manager's done an incredible job.
00:09:19Their ownership deserve it, the fans deserve it.
00:09:22They've been so close quite a few times.
00:09:25And that is a very, very special photograph
00:09:27that Crystal Palace fans will never forget.
00:09:29Might it be a bit of a sliding doors moment, Jamie,
00:09:31for Crystal Palace?
00:09:32Because there's all talk about Oliver Glasner's future.
00:09:34There was talk about a lot of these players
00:09:36leaving the club as well,
00:09:37but now they have Europe to contend with as well.
00:09:39Could that change the course of their future?
00:09:43I hope so.
00:09:44I hope a lot of those players,
00:09:45on the back of what happened there,
00:09:47we were saying a couple of weeks ago,
00:09:48this could be the greatest Crystal Palace team of all time.
00:09:51Now, the fact they've won that Cup,
00:09:53the first trophy they've ever won,
00:09:55that establishes them as that.
00:09:57They should want to play European football next season.
00:09:59But we go back to not even this season,
00:10:01I think even last season,
00:10:02when Glasner was coming in
00:10:03and we were talking about Crystal Palace supporters
00:10:05wanting their team to push more,
00:10:07show a little bit more ambition.
00:10:08And the supporters were criticised by certain people
00:10:10outside of, you know, be careful what you wish for.
00:10:13You know, you're a stable Premier League club,
00:10:15but they wanted that little bit more.
00:10:16So you go that extra yard,
00:10:18you get a manager who's won a European trophy
00:10:20at Interact France,
00:10:21and he makes the difference in a big game.
00:10:23And he doesn't just make the difference.
00:10:24He called it a few weeks ago,
00:10:26after they'd been beaten heavily at Manchester City.
00:10:29You know, he said, you know,
00:10:30perhaps do something similar again,
00:10:31or, you know, we'd be able to work it out.
00:10:33We'll have a plan for it.
00:10:34And an amazing day.
00:10:36And also an amazing day for football.
00:10:38We've been crying out for this for a long time on this show.
00:10:40We were saying, we want different teams to win.
00:10:42Newcastle won their first trophy for 70 years.
00:10:44Crystal Palace have won their first major trophy
00:10:46in their history.
00:10:47That for me is always...
00:10:48You should say the next one.
00:10:50Oh, they've been quite a few.
00:10:53It's a big game on Wednesday.
00:10:54It's a big game on Wednesday.
00:10:55It's a big game next Saturday as well, by the way.
00:10:57Come of the year of the underdog, who knows.
00:10:59Will any Crystal Palace players make it
00:11:02into the teams of the season
00:11:03when Gary and Jamie reveal all at 10.30 tonight here
00:11:08on our final Monday Night Football of the season?
00:11:10Well, I wonder if this guy
00:11:11will get a special mention as well.
00:11:13Well, we're going to give him one right now
00:11:15because 13 years to the day
00:11:17that he signed for Leicester City, Jamie Vardy.
00:11:20It was written in the stars, wasn't it?
00:11:21Scored his 200th goal in his 500th appearance.
00:11:26What a way to sign off, Jamie.
00:11:28And was this the Jamie Vardy that we were used to seeing?
00:11:31Yeah, I mean, he scored many different types of goals,
00:11:34obviously, in that time.
00:11:35But I think if you think of a Jamie Vardy goal
00:11:37at the end of his career, obviously,
00:11:39I think you'll think of this type of goal.
00:11:41Maybe you would have had a bit of eventuality
00:11:43but he times his run perfectly.
00:11:45He just gets it slid down that side
00:11:46and taking it really early off that left-footed touch.
00:11:50Surprises the goalkeeper.
00:11:52And what a career he's had.
00:11:53I mean, I just think the loyalty,
00:11:55we very rarely sort of talk about loyalty in football.
00:11:57We talk about disloyalty a lot,
00:11:58about players not staying at clubs.
00:12:00But when a player stays at a club like he has
00:12:02and turned down the big move to Arsenal
00:12:04to stay with Leicester, has won a title,
00:12:06it's a very special career.
00:12:08Got to be up there.
00:12:09There's a great his save, hasn't he?
00:12:11I think it has to be.
00:12:12I think it's statue material.
00:12:14You know, you think of players who have statues
00:12:16at maybe other clubs,
00:12:17but you think of what he's done for Leicester.
00:12:19Gary's mentioned about the loyalty.
00:12:21To win a league title for Leicester,
00:12:23I think we were covering it that night
00:12:25when it happened on Monday Night Football.
00:12:27You can't still quite believe it happened.
00:12:29It's still, for me, probably the greatest story.
00:12:31You know, certainly in Premier League.
00:12:33Probably his story is so unique as well
00:12:35because he was a late bloomer.
00:12:37All the way from non-league.
00:12:39I think that's the special thing, to come from non-league.
00:12:41We had him with England for a short period.
00:12:44He was one of those players that came with England
00:12:46that maybe just loved being at home
00:12:48and loved being back at his club.
00:12:49I can see why he turned down the idea
00:12:51of moving to Arsenal when he was with England
00:12:53because I just felt he was very comfortable in Leicester.
00:12:55Very safe.
00:12:56Knew what he was going to do.
00:12:58Loved the city.
00:12:59You've got to hand it to him.
00:13:01He's done unbelievably well in the end.
00:13:03Wonder what his next move will be.
00:13:05Could it be, actually, to the ball?
00:13:08Which is ongoing right now.
00:13:10We don't know.
00:13:11Who knows where Jamie Vardy's going?
00:13:13I don't think he's going to retire just yet.
00:13:15Do you know what?
00:13:16I'd love to see you two having a go at this.
00:13:18I'm not sure it'd last too long for either of you.
00:13:20Get him on here.
00:13:22Jamie Vardy, yes.
00:13:23Yes, but we're just talking about the Baller League.
00:13:25I was trying to move away.
00:13:27That continues tonight on Sky Sports Football.
00:13:30We'll bring you team news in a couple of minutes.
00:13:34Our final M&F of the season.
00:13:36Brighton taking on Liverpool.
00:14:04And our families embrace it with a great sense of fun.
00:14:09The new toys, the warmth, the laughs and the food.
00:14:13New tables and fables and an all-round great mood.
00:14:18And although our summers can sometimes be wet,
00:14:22with the right garden set up, there's no need to fret.
00:14:27Because when a long day becomes a long night,
00:14:31you can light up your garden with magic so bright.
00:14:35Homestore and more. A happy home.
00:14:40Welcome to the island of Eriskay.
00:14:43Population, 140.
00:14:47Is everyone behind the team?
00:14:5010% of us are in the team.
00:14:54And if you want to make the most of this pitch,
00:14:56well, that can be difficult.
00:14:59But thanks to Guinness Zero,
00:15:01if you want to make the most of your evening,
00:15:04that's always easy.
00:15:12While you struggle with tech that doesn't live up to your standards,
00:15:18we'll be right here.
00:15:20Yes, down here.
00:15:22Because at Husqvarna, we've been perfecting robotic lawn mowing for 30 years.
00:15:27Get it right with Husqvarna.
00:15:57Ireland's low-cost van insurance specialists.
00:16:01We've been sold on the lie
00:16:03that the more we buy, the better we'll feel.
00:16:07Wake up.
00:16:09Health isn't a product.
00:16:11It's a practice.
00:16:14It's time to make choices
00:16:16that become habits that can change everything.
00:16:19Wake up.
00:16:22See what happens when the power is back in your hands.
00:16:27Welcome to the awakening.
00:16:51I can tell when someone's lying, it's kind of a thing I do.
00:16:55I think I might be foolproof.
00:16:58Game on, Charlie Kael.
00:17:22Host the West Indies.
00:17:24In a wicked mash-up.
00:17:28This one hits different.
00:17:33Catch the Women's T20.
00:17:35England v. The West Indies.
00:17:37Live on Sky Sports.
00:17:51It's a gorgeous evening down on the south coast,
00:17:53and that is where the champions, Liverpool, are heading tonight.
00:17:56Looking to finish their season in style
00:18:00with the trophy presentation to look forward to next Sunday at Anfield.
00:18:06Brighton still looking to finish in eighth spot,
00:18:10which might be worth a place in Europe next season.
00:18:15So, let's have a little chat about where Brighton find themselves
00:18:18under their first season of Fabian Hertzler,
00:18:21the youngest coach in all five of Europe's major leagues.
00:18:25Straight away, what catches your eye?
00:18:27Expected goals exactly the same from this season to last.
00:18:30Now, last season wasn't the best season for Brighton.
00:18:32It was a bit of a drop-off from the previous season
00:18:35under Roberto Di Zerbi,
00:18:36and, of course, they had European football to contend with
00:18:38last time round as well.
00:18:40You see that jump in shot conversion.
00:18:42which has climbed nicely.
00:18:44You've got a better XG performance as well as a result of that.
00:18:48Defence-wise, again, pretty similar numbers.
00:18:51I suppose, Jamie, they might pick out some changes in style
00:18:56from one coach to the next in terms of possession.
00:18:58A drop.
00:18:59Ten-par sequences.
00:19:01Almost halved.
00:19:03And a change in pressures in final third.
00:19:05A bit of a jump in that.
00:19:06Does that tell you what is different about Hertzler
00:19:09compared to Di Zerbi?
00:19:10Because fast breaks are still the same.
00:19:12They're not too interested in that.
00:19:13Yeah, but, I mean, to be fair to the current manager,
00:19:16it was very difficult to match Di Zerbi's Brighton
00:19:19possession-wise.
00:19:20I mean, they were arguably the best in the league
00:19:22and were certainly up there with Manchester City.
00:19:24That's why, you know, the manager, Di Zerbi,
00:19:26was revered so much, not just by Brighton supporters,
00:19:28but everybody in the Premier League.
00:19:30Yeah, I mean, they were a fantastic team.
00:19:32He definitely took it on from where Graham Potter had it.
00:19:34So, this manager is going to come in.
00:19:35He's slightly different, but he's going to come in
00:19:38He's slightly different, but you look at a lot of the numbers,
00:19:39they're pretty similar.
00:19:40But I think there's no doubt, because even if you go back
00:19:43a couple of weeks ago, there was murmurings in the crowd
00:19:46against West Ham, and they'd come back and won that game
00:19:48very late.
00:19:49But they were on a poor run of form then.
00:19:51They'd unbeaten in the last three.
00:19:53But what you've found this season, for a lot of it,
00:19:55is that they've been on streaks.
00:19:58A lot of runs where they're not doing so well,
00:20:00and times when they are in great form.
00:20:02But you see where they were on March the 15th.
00:20:04Maybe they thought they had a really good opportunity
00:20:06to...
00:20:07At this point, they're only a point behind Manchester City.
00:20:10Just two points behind fourth.
00:20:12But you saw then a stickier spell.
00:20:14They went out of the FA Cup, and you wonder how damaging
00:20:18that was, because then three defeats in the next four.
00:20:20Dropping points as well at home to Leicester City.
00:20:24But then a recovery, beating West Ham, beating Wolves.
00:20:27And let's hear from Fabian Herzler, who joins us live now
00:20:31from the American Express Stadium.
00:20:32Fabian, we've just been going through with a forensic
00:20:35detail your season so far.
00:20:38How do you assess your first season in the Premier League?
00:20:44I would say a lot of highs, but also lows.
00:20:47So, during the whole season, I think we misled the consistency,
00:20:51consistency in our performances, consistency in our results.
00:20:54But there are still two games to go.
00:20:57So, we try to get the maximum out of it,
00:21:00and we're in a good place.
00:21:01Why do you think that consistency has been lacking?
00:21:05Oh, there are several reasons.
00:21:07I think we weren't able to put the same starting XI
00:21:12on the pitch for quite a few games.
00:21:14We weren't able to build connections on the pitch,
00:21:16and I think building connections on the pitch is crucial.
00:21:19On the other side, we still have a very young squad,
00:21:21a young squad with young players.
00:21:23They have to learn from the mistakes.
00:21:25They have to grow from these mistakes.
00:21:27So, therefore, there are some reasons for that.
00:21:30But for sure, we have to improve them.
00:21:33Fabian, after Game 1, we said that was the standout result
00:21:37of the weekend when you went to Goodison Park
00:21:39and won 3-0 against Everton.
00:21:42You're now coming into Game 37 against Liverpool tonight.
00:21:45What has been the biggest challenge you've found
00:21:48coming to the Premier League?
00:21:52I think every game is honestly a challenge.
00:21:54So, from every game, you can learn something.
00:21:56In every game, we have to be prepared on the highest level.
00:22:00Otherwise, the other opponents, the other teams,
00:22:03they're so prepared they can use every momentum in the game.
00:22:06So, you have to be also chewing the games on the highest level.
00:22:09Otherwise, if you do an easy, simple mistake,
00:22:12if you're not alive in the set-piece,
00:22:14if you don't defend the set-piece well,
00:22:16if you don't defend the throw-in well,
00:22:18the momentum can change so quickly.
00:22:20So, in these things on the pitch, you can influence,
00:22:22for example, set-pieces, for example, game management.
00:22:24When you're leading 2-0 in the 85th minute,
00:22:27how to finish a game well.
00:22:29In these things, I think we and I learned the most.
00:22:33Fabian, this is actually Brighton's second-best ever Premier League season.
00:22:37Do you think the assessment of the season has been a little bit imbalanced?
00:22:42No, because we judge them on our own
00:22:46and we're always very honest in our club
00:22:49and we always reflect each other, we feedback each other.
00:22:52Therefore, we know that we've played a good season so far
00:22:56and there's still a lot of things to go.
00:22:58Of course, there were a lot of challenges,
00:23:00a lot of adversities we had to face during the season,
00:23:03but we managed them well, we stayed together as a team,
00:23:06we always showed our style of play
00:23:08and therefore I'm really proud of the team,
00:23:10how they've performed so far.
00:23:12Fabian, we're just going to share your team news with our viewers.
00:23:15We haven't actually seen it yet,
00:23:17so we're just going to put that graphic up and have a look now.
00:23:20I believe there were a couple of changes from the Wolves game
00:23:24because you brought in Brajan Gruda,
00:23:26who scored his first goal of the season coming from the bench
00:23:29and Simon Odinga also starting.
00:23:31No, there's no João Pedro involved.
00:23:33What can you tell us on that?
00:23:35Yes, some personal issues,
00:23:38so that was the reason why he's not in the squad today.
00:23:40OK, Luis Dunque is back on the bench as well.
00:23:43Now, without him last week, you managed to keep a clean sheet.
00:23:47I think you're first in ten.
00:23:49Is that why you're not changing that tonight, the back four?
00:23:53Yes, I think it's important, to what I just said,
00:23:56to build a connection on the pitch
00:23:58and JP and Adam did it in quite an impressive way
00:24:01in the last game against Wolverhampton,
00:24:03so we trust them today again.
00:24:04But we're also very happy that Luis is back.
00:24:06He's our skipper, he's our captain,
00:24:08so he's so crucial for our young team.
00:24:11He's our own model on the pitch and beside the pitch,
00:24:13so we're very happy that he's back after a small, minor injury.
00:24:16Fabian, just to finish with,
00:24:18we've been talking about what still might be possible.
00:24:20Do you see it, does your club still see this
00:24:22as a possible way to get into Europe to finish eighth?
00:24:27It is possible, yes, but we have to focus on our job,
00:24:30on our task, and that's Liverpool today.
00:24:32If we don't do our job,
00:24:34then we can talk about a lot of other things regarding Europe,
00:24:39but we have to do our job first,
00:24:41so that's fully focused today on this match.
00:24:43We wish you well, Fabian. Thanks so much for talking to us.
00:24:45Thanks a lot, thanks.
00:24:48How do you think he's handled his first season?
00:24:50I think he's done well. It's remarkable, 32 years of age.
00:24:52I mean, if we think where you were at 32 years of age
00:24:54and you're managing a Premier League club
00:24:56that have spent £235 million with some good managers
00:24:59that have gone before him, which put pressure on him,
00:25:01and I think he maybe misunderstood my question
00:25:03when I said about the fact that does he feel like
00:25:05the assessment of his season is a little bit imbalanced,
00:25:07in the sense that there is quite a little bit of pressure
00:25:09building down there, the fans maybe not as happy as they were.
00:25:11I took that response from him as sort of him saying,
00:25:13yeah, we're almost aware of that,
00:25:15and we share that view as well,
00:25:17because we expect a lot from ourselves.
00:25:19Maybe. I mean, look, yeah, he's putting pressure on himself,
00:25:21but I think where would Brighton expect
00:25:23to be in a very good season?
00:25:25I mean, maybe they are looking at Nottingham Forest,
00:25:27and that's just throwing everybody that is in those spots
00:25:29between 8th and 11th, that they're thinking
00:25:31we should be where Forest are.
00:25:33Maybe a few of them are thinking that,
00:25:35but Forest have been a freak this season,
00:25:37and they've been remarkable, and I think what he's done
00:25:39at the age of 32 with, I think, loads of incoming signings,
00:25:41and the turnover of players,
00:25:43I think it's a good settling in season.
00:25:45I think they'll do better again next year.
00:25:47I think a lot of the criticism has come, Jamie,
00:25:49because of the high spend of last summer,
00:25:51£192 million.
00:25:53That was £151 net spend from Brighton,
00:25:55and yes, there were one or two of those players
00:25:57that you would have signed
00:25:59expecting an immediate impact from,
00:26:01but when you look at the ages of a lot of them,
00:26:03the bottom two have gone straight out on loan,
00:26:05incidentally, Osman and Yoko,
00:26:07are they more about building for the future?
00:26:09Is this the continued Brighton way?
00:26:11I think if that was most clubs,
00:26:13we'd be coming on, looking at that,
00:26:15and saying, that's disappointing.
00:26:17We'd be looking, who's in charge of recruitment?
00:26:19Hasn't really made that major impact.
00:26:21There's big pressure going into next season.
00:26:23But so often when you see a player,
00:26:25and Belieber is that player for me this season,
00:26:27where you think, oh, what a player he looks like,
00:26:29but he hasn't been signed this summer.
00:26:31He was signed 12, 18 months before that.
00:26:33Now, that's the model at this club,
00:26:35so the reason why I'm probably a little bit
00:26:37too critical of it, because more often than not,
00:26:39with Brighton, these players will come to a fore next season,
00:26:41and maybe you'll see the best,
00:26:43and that's what's happened before,
00:26:45and that's what they've been hoping.
00:26:47They've gone with, obviously, a big outlay,
00:26:49but more often than not, we'll see the fruits of that next season.
00:26:51They don't make a lot of mistakes, Brighton.
00:26:53They've been one of the very best at recruiting.
00:26:55They have a way of doing it.
00:26:57I think you've got our faith in it.
00:26:59I think the time to judge this squad, this manager, is next season.
00:27:01I think one of the disappointing things
00:27:03when you think of the supporters is,
00:27:05they've had De Zerbe, who was pretty special,
00:27:07so it was always going to be difficult
00:27:09to get someone better than that.
00:27:11We've just looked at the football stats in terms of keeping the ball,
00:27:13not quite the same,
00:27:15and I don't think Brighton could probably expect
00:27:17to be any higher than 7th, 8th.
00:27:19I think the problem is when you see Manchester United
00:27:21and Tottenham have the seasons they've had,
00:27:23and then you see, as you've just said, Nottingham Forest,
00:27:25but also Crystal Palace win at the weekend.
00:27:27You're thinking, if somebody's going to take
00:27:29one of the big boys' jobs in terms of the Champions League position
00:27:31or win the FA Cup,
00:27:33it almost felt like Brighton were that team.
00:27:35And they've seen other teams do it,
00:27:37so that's where I think some of the frustration will come.
00:27:39Not around just the manager, but just the general position
00:27:41Brighton find themselves in.
00:27:43And like so many clubs this season, they've had lots of injuries.
00:27:45You heard from him about that struggle to find consistent selection.
00:27:47Another two changes tonight for his side.
00:27:49There are four changes for Liverpool.
00:27:51We will tell all in just a moment
00:27:53when we'll be speaking live to Arne Slott.
00:27:59But interesting and eye-catching,
00:28:01because Chiesa starts tonight
00:28:03for the first time this season.
00:28:05But does Virgil van Dijk?
00:28:31Don't you
00:28:33forget about me
00:28:35Don't, don't, don't
00:28:37forget about me
00:28:39La, la, la
00:28:41La, la
00:28:43La, la, la
00:28:45La, don't you
00:28:47forget about me
00:28:49Forget about me
00:28:51Welcome
00:28:53to the island of Eriskay.
00:28:55Population
00:28:57140.
00:28:59Is everyone behind the team?
00:29:0110% of us
00:29:03are in the team.
00:29:05And if you want
00:29:07to make the most of this pitch,
00:29:09well, that can be difficult.
00:29:11But thanks to
00:29:13Guinness Zero,
00:29:15if you want to make the most of your evening,
00:29:17that's always easy.
00:29:29A great sense of fun.
00:29:31The new toys,
00:29:33the warmth, the laughs and the food.
00:29:35New tables
00:29:37and fables.
00:29:39And an all-round great mood.
00:29:41And although our summers can
00:29:43sometimes be wet,
00:29:45with the right garden set up,
00:29:47there's no need to fret.
00:29:49Because
00:29:51when a long day becomes
00:29:53a long night,
00:29:55you can light up your garden
00:29:57and make it bright.
00:29:59Homestore and more.
00:30:01A happy home.

00:30:05he will appear.

00:30:23So it's live football
00:30:25from the American Express Stadium
00:30:27tonight for the final time this season.
00:30:29Brighton taking on
00:30:31Liverpool, as ever, at 8 o'clock.
00:30:33Kick off and we can bring you.
00:30:35The team's in full now.
00:30:37This is how Brighton line up.
00:30:39Two changes from the win at Wolves last time out.
00:30:41It's the same back four,
00:30:43having kept a clean sheet in that game.
00:30:45Their first in ten games.
00:30:47The two changes come in those forward positions
00:30:49where Simon Idinga starts
00:30:51and so does Raishan Gruda
00:30:53and O'Reilly drops to the bench.
00:30:55No João Pedro
00:30:57in the squad tonight,
00:30:59with personal reasons we are told.
00:31:01Four changes for Liverpool.
00:31:03We see Gerald Kwanzaa and Shumakass
00:31:05come into the back four.
00:31:07There's another start for Harvey Elliott
00:31:09and also for Chiesa, making his first start of the season.
00:31:11But there is no Virgil van Dijk
00:31:13in the starting line-up
00:31:15tonight. What do you make of that, Jamie?
00:31:17Interesting. I'm really looking forward
00:31:19to seeing the centre-backs play together
00:31:21because I think
00:31:23the great thing about Virgil van Dijk is he always plays.
00:31:25But what that means
00:31:27is you very rarely see a centre-back
00:31:29pairing without him.
00:31:31I think if that happened
00:31:33for six to eight weeks of a season,
00:31:35it would be a worry if he wasn't
00:31:37there and how they would cope.
00:31:39Not because they're not good players.
00:31:41I keep talking about centre-backs
00:31:43and I think of myself in there and other players.
00:31:45I want to see who would be the leader.
00:31:47Can I ask, he's a great player, he's quick, he's good in the air.
00:31:49Is he a leader? Can he control
00:31:51a full back four? Can he push up? Can he hold the line?
00:31:53Can he make other players look better?
00:31:55I think that's probably one of the things the managers want to look at
00:31:57now. Let's have a little look
00:31:59without Virgil van Dijk
00:32:01alongside. It's interesting in terms of
00:32:03midfield. I think the other way round,
00:32:05Sir Bozlai's a little bit deeper and Elliott's further forward.
00:32:07But I've had this thing with Sir Bozlai
00:32:09where I actually think
00:32:11he's got the qualities of a central midfielder.
00:32:13When you describe his energy, it's more
00:32:15what he does off the ball rather than what he does on the ball.
00:32:17And Liverpool are getting linked with
00:32:19a guy from Germany at this minute from
00:32:21Bayer Leverkusen.
00:32:23Flirts? Waits?
00:32:25Flirts?
00:32:27Flirts in with him.
00:32:29Florian Wirtz.
00:32:31That was him.
00:32:33But what might be interesting was,
00:32:35let's say, for instance, that deal got done.
00:32:37Sir Bozlai's energy is vitally
00:32:39important to Liverpool.
00:32:41I think,
00:32:43could you do with that energy in central midfield?
00:32:45It'd be interesting to see
00:32:47there as well.
00:32:49Yeah, is his patience paying off?
00:32:51No, I think he's just given him
00:32:53a game, just to see how he is.
00:32:55The supporters love him because he's got a great
00:32:57chance, but he hasn't really offered too much.
00:32:59People may say he hasn't had much of an opportunity.
00:33:01He's had injury problems in the past, but
00:33:03it hasn't really worked. And all I would say
00:33:05is the fact of not getting an opportunity, the manager
00:33:07watches and trains every single day and he hasn't put him in.
00:33:09But he's put him in now the title's won.
00:33:11He's resting everybody. Do you think Salah's just going on his door
00:33:13saying, you can't rest me until I've broken that record?
00:33:15It probably will. You know, I would imagine
00:33:17that Mo Salah's one of those type of players. You've
00:33:19probably played with players like that before, where
00:33:21you just don't want to be rested, but the numbers are so
00:33:23important to them. And it'd be interesting again
00:33:25at the front three, will Salah go through the middle?
00:33:27Because I've never really seen him play. Gatpo through the middle
00:33:29as well. So, a few things to certainly interest
00:33:31Liverpool supporters going into the game.
00:33:33He's one goal or assist short of a Premier League record,
00:33:35isn't he? So that's surely why Mo
00:33:37Salah is still playing tonight. Though Virgil
00:33:39van Dijk was potentially
00:33:41the first player to play every
00:33:43game of two title winning seasons.
00:33:45But he's on the bench tonight.
00:33:47Let's hear from Arne Slot, who joins us
00:33:49live right now. Good evening to you
00:33:51Arne. Looks like a nice suntan.
00:33:53I understand there are a few people who had a little
00:33:55break. Is everyone back in one
00:33:57piece?
00:33:59With a few, you include
00:34:01Jamie as well, because what's been told
00:34:03to me that he's been
00:34:05on Ibiza more often than I've been
00:34:07and still able to perform in Monday night
00:34:09football. But we've
00:34:11lived
00:34:13Karel's life for a few
00:34:15days as well. Yes, we did.
00:34:17So how's the team? Is everybody focused on
00:34:19the job in hand? Will you tell us what is the job with
00:34:21two games to go?
00:34:23As the job
00:34:25of a Liverpool player always is,
00:34:27win a game of football. But as you
00:34:29probably saw in the line-up, it's also
00:34:31interesting for me to see a few players
00:34:33that we haven't seen
00:34:35enough if you look at their
00:34:37quality. So then I talk about Joao
00:34:39Kwanzaa, about Javi Elliott, Federico Chiesa.
00:34:41So this is a good moment for them
00:34:43to show where they are against a very
00:34:45difficult opponent, because Brighton has
00:34:47had a great season. We're so difficult to play
00:34:49against for City, for Arsenal
00:34:51here in their own stadium.
00:34:53I think it's good to see
00:34:55all of them, but maybe
00:34:57especially these three. Arne,
00:34:59can I ask you about the two centre-backs
00:35:01and especially with Virgil van Dijk being on the bench
00:35:03because Virgil's not just a great player,
00:35:05he's a leader and he helps the people around him.
00:35:07We know the two centre-backs in
00:35:09Karnate and Kwanzaa are obviously good players,
00:35:11but also you're looking for who could lead
00:35:13the defence, who can show those leadership qualities
00:35:15if in the future Virgil van Dijk
00:35:17isn't in the team?
00:35:19No, that's not the reason
00:35:21now to play without him, but
00:35:23to see if there's a leader
00:35:25because I think Ibu Karnate
00:35:27is already experienced.
00:35:29Maybe not as experienced
00:35:31as Virgil yet, but he could definitely
00:35:33beat the last line. He does that probably with the
00:35:35France national team as well.
00:35:37For me, it's more interesting to see Gerald.
00:35:39I wanted to see him against Chelsea
00:35:41together with Virgil. I wanted to see him
00:35:43tonight together
00:35:45with Ibu, so now he's playing from the left.
00:35:47Gerald last time against Chelsea played
00:35:49from the right and I think
00:35:51he developed
00:35:53very well. This season was already
00:35:55a very good player last season,
00:35:57but hasn't had the chance to
00:35:59play a lot, so that's why it's interesting to see
00:36:01him against Chelsea tonight.
00:36:03Also, just looking at the make-up of the midfield,
00:36:05I've always felt that Dominik Sebozla
00:36:07had the qualities of a central midfield player.
00:36:09Can you give us a little bit of an insight?
00:36:11Are you looking at him in that position?
00:36:13Is he a little bit deeper tonight?
00:36:15Er...
00:36:17Yes, he is.
00:36:19LAUGHTER
00:36:21When I came in just a second ago, I said
00:36:23is it really necessary for me to go in because
00:36:25Jamie knows everything, but
00:36:27he does know
00:36:29everything. Indeed,
00:36:31Dominik is playing as an eight
00:36:33with Ryan as a six,
00:36:35with Harvey a bit more
00:36:37forward, so
00:36:39I think Dominik sees himself
00:36:41his best position, maybe he sees as an eight
00:36:43as well, so that's also,
00:36:45apart from the other three, interesting to see how he does
00:36:47in this position. Arne, you've got
00:36:49Mo Salah as captain tonight. Is it impossible
00:36:51to leave him out when he's on the brink of that record?
00:36:55Nothing is impossible, but
00:36:57if I would have left him out,
00:36:59I think I could have expected
00:37:01a knock on my door.
00:37:03So to prevent that from happening,
00:37:05I just put him in the team.
00:37:07On Mo Salah, obviously he said the other day
00:37:09that he wants to play until he's 39-40.
00:37:11Do you actually think he could move more central
00:37:13and play as a centre-forward in maybe the last
00:37:15few years of his career?
00:37:17Er...
00:37:19Not too sure, depends also how
00:37:21the game develops
00:37:23or evolves, I think that's
00:37:25a better word to use.
00:37:27I think what has changed
00:37:29in Mo Salah's game
00:37:31is that he went from
00:37:33a striker that was mainly
00:37:35making deep runs in behind the last line,
00:37:37dribbles and scoring goals towards
00:37:39doing still that, but also
00:37:41being a playmaker.
00:37:43The way we use him now I think fits him
00:37:45at this moment the way the league is
00:37:47best, because
00:37:49as a nine, I think
00:37:51especially the way we use
00:37:53Mo now, but if we would use him
00:37:55in this system as a nine, he needs to
00:37:57do even more
00:37:59defensively. And one of
00:38:01the reasons why he probably scored
00:38:03so many goals is that he still does
00:38:05a lot defensively.
00:38:07But I think if I look at our left winger,
00:38:09he needs to do a little bit more defensively
00:38:11than our right winger.
00:38:13So as a nine, he would even have to defend
00:38:15more. So that's why I think this role
00:38:17suits him at this moment,
00:38:19in this system, with this player
00:38:21best.
00:38:23Arne, seeing as you told me, I know so much
00:38:25about your team. We're going to analyse your
00:38:27team and how you ended up winning the title, and I'm
00:38:29just going to have a little look at your impact
00:38:31on the team, and the things that stand out for me
00:38:33would be the positions of the full-backs,
00:38:35maybe underlapping at times,
00:38:37goals at the back post from
00:38:39passers from Mo Salah, and
00:38:41changes from the manager at half-time,
00:38:43whether that's personnel and tactical.
00:38:45Is that fair?
00:38:47I think
00:38:49these are things that all
00:38:51managers do, all teams do, but
00:38:53it's definitely what we do as well.
00:38:55So every manager tries to impact the game at
00:38:57half-time or during the second half.
00:38:59Are we missing anything then, Arne?
00:39:01Probably, because
00:39:03the game is much more complicated than that,
00:39:05but I think in general, if you look at...
00:39:07That wasn't
00:39:09even a joke, but...
00:39:11But
00:39:13I think if you look
00:39:15at the way Arsenal plays, we play, Chelsea
00:39:17plays, Villa plays,
00:39:19there are so many similarities between
00:39:21these teams. I think the only exception
00:39:23to these seven teams is Forest,
00:39:25who have a completely different playing style
00:39:27than the other six, but the
00:39:29other six are mostly the
00:39:31same, and then it's always the players
00:39:33that make the biggest difference.
00:39:35Always interesting. Arne, thank you so much for
00:39:37speaking to us.
00:39:39You're welcome.
00:39:41Arne Slott taking his team to take on
00:39:43Brighton tonight, their penultimate game of the season.
00:39:45How impressed have you been with
00:39:47the way he's managed this
00:39:49almost seamless transition?
00:39:51A huge
00:39:53surprise. When you think of the start of the season,
00:39:55I had them dropping out of the Champions League places,
00:39:57no-one really had a Liverpool win in the league.
00:39:59I thought the impact of losing Klopp
00:40:01and his impact on the city and how he was
00:40:03revered by everybody in and out
00:40:05of the club would have a
00:40:07feeling of great loss, and for him to come
00:40:09in and show the composure, the way in which he's
00:40:11adapted, what I like most about him,
00:40:13he said there something that
00:40:15it's wrong for me to disagree with him because he knows
00:40:17a lot more about football than I do, but he said that a lot of
00:40:19the top six teams are the same, apart
00:40:21from Nottingham Forest. I disagree with that.
00:40:23I think some of the teams are so set in their ways.
00:40:25I think Liverpool do play differently in
00:40:27different parts of games. They play, I think,
00:40:29high-press, they then play deep, and
00:40:31to be fair, counter-attack really well. They sometimes
00:40:33go direct and long through Van Dijk
00:40:35and Trent Alexander-Arnold's passing.
00:40:37So I think the way in which they've adapted in
00:40:39games means that they can fight
00:40:41all different types of fights, and they've
00:40:43shown that through the season, their consistency,
00:40:45and also to go up front early after ten
00:40:47games and be in front at the end takes
00:40:49some doing that. Well, that's tactical flexibility
00:40:51you're talking about there, Gary. Certainly impressed the players.
00:40:53This is what Mo Salah had to
00:40:55say to Gary when he spoke to him last week.
00:40:57When was the point
00:40:59where you felt, this manager's
00:41:01good, he's getting a good reaction out of
00:41:03us all? I think
00:41:05first a few
00:41:07games in the second half,
00:41:09he always changes what
00:41:11the tactics is. By substitutions.
00:41:13Yeah, and not just that.
00:41:15The tactic itself, you go
00:41:17to the game and you see some manager
00:41:19like, this is my style, and you have to do the
00:41:21whole game, but he's adapting
00:41:23somehow to how
00:41:25our opponent is playing, and just like
00:41:27putting Dominic in a different position
00:41:29and putting Maka in a
00:41:31different position.
00:41:33He doesn't have that ego
00:41:35that this is my tactics and it will
00:41:37work in the second half. No, no, no. He can adapt
00:41:39around, and that's in my head
00:41:41all. That's very clever, very disciplined.
00:41:45Yeah, tactical tweaks
00:41:47is something that stands out,
00:41:49Jamie, when we're talking about
00:41:51Arne Slott, and you can see why.
00:41:53When you see Liverpool's second half
00:41:55record this season, top for goals,
00:41:57best defence in the second half,
00:41:59the highest xG difference
00:42:01per game, and seven times
00:42:03from behind to win or
00:42:05draw. What does that tell us, Jamie?
00:42:07I think his
00:42:09tactical idea of the game and how he sees the game,
00:42:11he reads the game really well, and it just shows
00:42:13this season there's been nobody better
00:42:15in the Premier League, and his first season in the Premier League
00:42:17doesn't know the league that well, and impressing
00:42:19someone like Mo Salah, who's had
00:42:21Jürgen Klopp as his manager for seven or eight years,
00:42:23and he's massively impressed him straight away,
00:42:25and players can see those things really
00:42:27early. But I'm going to look at some key
00:42:29games where he's had that impact
00:42:31from the bench, and this was a really important game
00:42:33early on, the reverse fixture.
00:42:35So we look down here at the substitutions,
00:42:37what minute they were made,
00:42:39and this is Curtis Jones
00:42:41and Luis Diaz now combining
00:42:43for what was the winning goal.
00:42:45They got themselves back to 1-1
00:42:47through Cody Gaffer, and then this is the goal
00:42:49from Mo Salah.
00:42:51So those substitutions were made, as we just see
00:42:53in the minute was made there, Mo Salah gets
00:42:55the winner, six minutes later
00:42:57the 2-1 up, and that was the manager
00:42:59making the change with personnel.
00:43:01But this is what impressed me more, managers
00:43:03can make substitutions, but if you look at the
00:43:05situation Liverpool find themselves in, Andy
00:43:07Robertson was sent off very early in the game.
00:43:09Now, the thing I
00:43:11love about this, you can make substitutions
00:43:13but also tactically changing
00:43:15things. Now, Liverpool
00:43:17are a man down, so what's the manager decided
00:43:19to do? He's decided to go with a
00:43:21back three,
00:43:23to outnumber the front
00:43:25two, you know Fulham like to play a 4-4-2.
00:43:27They're going to outnumber them there,
00:43:29he's going to give up the whole
00:43:31of midfield just with one player,
00:43:33Gravenberch, that's it, against that
00:43:35four-man midfield. But what he's then
00:43:37decided to do is go, OK, the
00:43:39back four of Fulham, I'm going to put a
00:43:41front five up against there, so I'll
00:43:43outnumber you at the back, and
00:43:45I'll outnumber you here. And it was at
00:43:47the stage of this game, it finished 2-2,
00:43:49but Fulham were hanging on.
00:43:51And Fulham played really well in the game, but the changes
00:43:53he made from there was fantastic.
00:43:55And Liverpool then get the goal here
00:43:57from Diotta, Fulham
00:43:59back four don't really know where they're going, and don't forget
00:44:01this is a really organised team. For me
00:44:03that was a big sign early on that this
00:44:05manager was pretty special.
00:44:07Alright, he has a
00:44:09big impact in terms of substitutions
00:44:11in the second half. What about a little
00:44:13nuance, goals at the back post?
00:44:15Yes, but this for me is all about
00:44:17Mo Salah, and the big thing about Mo Salah this
00:44:19season is the assists he's getting. Gary's just mentioned
00:44:21the record he's looking for.
00:44:23And they haven't been crossers
00:44:25like a winger, they've been passers.
00:44:27But another little thing to pick up here, Trent
00:44:29Alexander-Arnold picking the ball up in midfield, we don't
00:44:31see that a lot, but that pays into what Gary's
00:44:33just said, at different times he will change
00:44:35things and tweak things to suit the opposition.
00:44:37But for me this is up there with any
00:44:39assist you will see this season. I think we're
00:44:41just in this position where Mo Salah's just slightly
00:44:43got his head up, and his peripheral
00:44:45vision, you can see red shirts in that back
00:44:47post. To think
00:44:49where he's now going to put the ball, the goals will be
00:44:51you think it's impossible, this position
00:44:53he finds himself in, but it's been a feature
00:44:55of Mo Salah and Liverpool's play all
00:44:57season, scoring goals at the
00:44:59back post, especially between Mo Salah
00:45:01and Cody Gaffpole.
00:45:03And you've got the celebration
00:45:05there again, you see him, he's celebrating
00:45:07he's getting the applause because people know how important
00:45:09the assist was rather than the finish.
00:45:11This is another situation again
00:45:13where, don't forget as well
00:45:15Mo Salah, we always talk about him being a wide
00:45:17forward and being narrow and making runs
00:45:19inside, but a lot of the time under
00:45:21this manager he is a little bit wider,
00:45:23more difficult for the full-back to get out, and again
00:45:25he picks out that man at the back post, again
00:45:27Cody Gaffpole.
00:45:29And I keep going back to them not really being
00:45:31crossers and being more passers
00:45:33and this for me just sums it up. This time
00:45:35it's Louis Diaz down here, he's going to score
00:45:37but look at that, that is just on a plate.
00:45:39So it's not like what we saw in the past
00:45:41maybe with the Ryan Giggs and the David Beckman, you're just
00:45:43putting great balls into an area and hoping
00:45:45one of your strikers gets on the end, he's
00:45:47missing it into players. You mentioned to
00:45:49Anasot the role of the full-backs, what do you mean by that?
00:45:51Well full-backs, listen, have been
00:45:53sort of dominating the game for the last
00:45:55five or six years, whether they're overlapping,
00:45:57we've got full-backs coming inside, we've now got
00:45:59full-backs getting in sort of pockets in number
00:46:01ten positions, but something that's really stood
00:46:03out for me this season from Liverpool and Paris
00:46:05Saint-Germain with the Hakimi
00:46:07and Mendes is the positions the full-backs find
00:46:09themselves in, and this has been a real standout.
00:46:11He's very rarely asked
00:46:13Trent to go into midfield and
00:46:15get away, like we've seen Jürgen Klopp
00:46:17do in the past.
00:46:19What we do now, again another feature of
00:46:21Liverpool this season that we'll get to is the
00:46:23counter-attack, but Mo Salah making that inside run.
00:46:25He now pulls wide,
00:46:27opens that space up for Conor Bradley,
00:46:29this is what we're seeing now, this underlap
00:46:31if you like, happening or not with Liverpool
00:46:33and Sir Bosley gets the goal
00:46:35from the Bradley run.
00:46:37Another game that was vital for
00:46:39Liverpool in here, you see
00:46:41Andy Robertson, inside run
00:46:43there, doesn't get the ball,
00:46:45this was a vital win for Liverpool
00:46:47again, a lockdown to the changes
00:46:49made by the manager, but
00:46:51Trent Alexander makes that
00:46:53running side, so we've seen Robertson, he doesn't get it,
00:46:55Trent gets it this side, then gets the assist
00:46:57and Nunes scores again, he was
00:46:59a sub coming off the bench, another change from the
00:47:01manager in a vital win, one of the most
00:47:03important wins of the season, but again
00:47:05you see the value of the full-backs not overlapping,
00:47:07underlapping inside.
00:47:09You mentioned it, counter-attacks.
00:47:11I think with the manager,
00:47:13we're now looking at things he's added that
00:47:15maybe weren't quite there with Klopp, but the
00:47:17worry when he came in was, this manager
00:47:19likes to make the extra pass, slow
00:47:21the game down a little bit, he actually said that himself.
00:47:23So you're thinking, will Liverpool
00:47:25lose that sort of blistering pace
00:47:27and penetration on the counter-attack?
00:47:29But they haven't, it's been better than ever.
00:47:31When we see some of the clips and maybe see the
00:47:33graphic come in about that,
00:47:35that's what really stands out, but
00:47:37this is from a corner early on this season
00:47:39against Brentford.
00:47:41We've just got a clock at the bottom here, just seeing the
00:47:43actual speed and pace Liverpool go at
00:47:45and how quick it is.
00:47:47It's Jota and Luis Diaz involved,
00:47:49go from one end of the pitch to the other
00:47:51and that's from when the
00:47:53corner was taken, under 13
00:47:55seconds, they've got a goal.
00:47:57This was away at West Ham, one of the standout
00:47:59away wins for Liverpool.
00:48:01Mo Salah's on his own here, he's up against three or
00:48:03four defenders, the skill is fantastic.
00:48:05But look at the pace from Jota.
00:48:07And from one end of the pitch to the other,
00:48:09Liverpool have still kept the
00:48:11counter-attack, the blistering pace
00:48:13that they had under Jürgen Klopp.
00:48:15And this just shows it here now, so
00:48:17the most in a Premier League season since
00:48:192018-19, goals
00:48:21but also shots as well.
00:48:23They're absolutely devastating on the counter-attack.
00:48:25So when you're looking at what the manager's done,
00:48:27he's taken Jürgen Klopp's team, he's kept
00:48:29the best bits certainly in terms of that
00:48:31and he's just sprinkled a little bit of his own stardust on it.
00:48:33So, an excellent
00:48:35coaching job. It sums up the adaptability
00:48:37of what we've just seen and to miss out what, to be
00:48:39fair, has become an obsession in the last 10 years,
00:48:41they're very good at possession as well. They can dominate
00:48:43the ball in large parts of games,
00:48:45not just in big games, but against the inferior opposition.
00:48:47It was a game against Chelsea, I think about
00:48:4918, and I thought Liverpool would drop
00:48:51off. I thought it was just a good start by the new manager
00:48:53and Chelsea were in the midst of a good run at that time
00:48:55and I thought they were a good team. And the way in which
00:48:57they adapted in that game, I thought,
00:48:59it's a little bit different. You see a lot now, managers
00:49:01talk about plan A and when it doesn't go
00:49:03well, do plan A better. That's not what
00:49:05this manager does. This manager is a bit of a throwback
00:49:07when it comes to things. He changes things
00:49:09at half-time, he'll play slightly differently,
00:49:11he'll go quicker forward, he'll play
00:49:13counter-attack and that's something that
00:49:15to me is a team for all seasons
00:49:17and I think there's a great coaching performance.
00:49:19The enormity of the club that he's gone to,
00:49:21it's a huge football club. It would
00:49:23have come right on top of him very
00:49:25quickly if it had gone wrong early in the
00:49:27season. So, he deserves huge credit.
00:49:29You get the sense as well, Jamie, at times he has shown his teeth
00:49:31in the dressing room at half-time when he's had to.
00:49:33Yeah, I think he's not
00:49:35been shy in showing his displeasure.
00:49:37He's not shy making changes. You go
00:49:39back to the first game of the season and
00:49:41people made a big deal about that. He was very
00:49:43strong with what he did at half-time with
00:49:45Gerard Kwanzaa, who's playing tonight, and he brought
00:49:47Canarte and then Canarte was the first-choice
00:49:49centre-back for the rest of the season. I mean, we were
00:49:51quite strong in that, I think, on the first Monday Night Football
00:49:53because when you hear him speak, he's Dutch,
00:49:55he's quite straight. I don't think sometimes
00:49:57Dutch people maybe even know they're being as straight
00:49:59as they are. But they give you an answer
00:50:01and he was very strong on that.
00:50:03I think speaking to Mo Salah the other day, it may
00:50:05have been something that's been said before, but when he said that in
00:50:07the early parts of pre-season that he brought
00:50:09Mo Salah into the office to question
00:50:11his, I suppose, his work ethic in the
00:50:13warm-up and the impact that that was having on some of the other
00:50:15players, that's a big risk, that.
00:50:17Being at a football club where you've got a huge player
00:50:19who's been there a long time and a new manager comes in
00:50:21and tries to sort of take that risk and
00:50:23challenge of actually challenging a major player,
00:50:25that can go one way or the other, that.
00:50:27And it obviously has gone the right way
00:50:29and he's not been afraid to make big decisions
00:50:31obviously in games, but he's also not been
00:50:33afraid to obviously make sure that with big players
00:50:35that he lets them know who the boss is.
00:50:37It's a really interesting interview actually between Gary
00:50:39and Mo Salah, you can see that in full
00:50:41on the Sky Sports Premier League YouTube
00:50:43channel and we'll be talking Mo Salah
00:50:45and the record as well before
00:50:47kick-off tonight. He is one short.
00:50:49When we come back though, we have more analysis
00:50:51for you because it's all about the race
00:50:53for the Champions League, which with one

00:55:41Final home game of the season for Brighton.
00:55:43And they've been pretty good at home so far.
00:55:45Beaten City.
00:55:47Beaten Chelsea. Drawn with Arsenal.
00:55:49Can they see off the champions Liverpool
00:55:51in front of their own fans tonight?
00:55:53Liverpool will have other ideas.
00:55:55Led by Mo Salah.
00:55:57And changes including leaving
00:55:59Virgil van Dijk on the bench tonight
00:56:01to give Kwanzaa a run alongside
00:56:03Kanate.
00:56:05Interesting to see how that pans out.
00:56:07Let's get into the weekend analysis.
00:56:09We start our round-up at Goodison Park.
00:56:11Jamie, what a send-off for the old lady.
00:56:13Yeah, brilliant.
00:56:15I think it was great that they won.
00:56:17The sun was out. It was an early game.
00:56:19They could enjoy it in terms of getting there
00:56:21at eight or nine in the morning.
00:56:23A lot of the things that Evertonians say,
00:56:25and rightly so, is they get this support.
00:56:27And don't forget, this support has kept them up
00:56:29the last few years. Imagine if they were any good
00:56:31or they were winning something.
00:56:33I'm not saying that in terms of taking the mick out of them.
00:56:35Their own supporters are saying that.
00:56:37But they have the support that they have
00:56:39going to big league games or cup finals
00:56:41when you see these scenes.
00:56:43So for me, I thought it was fantastic.
00:56:45I'm not sure how much Everton will have to spend
00:56:47in the summer with new owners, but
00:56:49this fella,
00:56:51I think when you think of the Sean Dyche
00:56:53and I think it was Stelwell
00:56:55who was behind the players, they could get another cup
00:56:57like him. I think he's fantastic.
00:56:59Well, of course, this was not about who scores the first goal of the day.
00:57:01It was who gets the last goal at Goodison Park.
00:57:03Yeah, it was.
00:57:05As I said before, it was great.
00:57:07But the most important thing was I think probably Everton got it right.
00:57:09You see all the old players coming on,
00:57:11starting with the teams in the 60s,
00:57:13Johnny Morrissey, legend right up to the
00:57:15modern-day teams who certainly won in
00:57:171995 with Duncan Ferguson.
00:57:19Obviously, Wayne Rooney was involved as well.
00:57:21So I think the scenes there,
00:57:23it's a sad day for every
00:57:25Evertonian, but
00:57:27I don't think there's any Evertonian who doesn't
00:57:29think it's the right decision. And you know, they've got
00:57:31a new stadium that looks absolutely fantastic
00:57:33and looking forward to going here next season.
00:57:35Yeah, I mean, such a special place.
00:57:37Obviously, they have to move on Everton.
00:57:39You see the stadium that we're just looking at here on this screen.
00:57:41But a little bit of tradition dies
00:57:43on Saturday when Goodison Park,
00:57:45you don't go there anymore. That gantry shaking,
00:57:47those fans just electric
00:57:49and it was a horrible place to lose,
00:57:51a horrible place to go to at times.
00:57:53It's a fantastic crowd.
00:57:55Yeah, very, very special place and we'll all be
00:57:57sorry not to be going there
00:57:59for men's football anymore.
00:58:01Arsenal, you were there on Sunday.
00:58:03What did you make of them? Because there were a lot of questions over
00:58:05Arsenal at the minute. And there should be.
00:58:07I think they asked questions themselves at the end of the game.
00:58:09I thought Arteta and Odegaard on the pitch at the end
00:58:11of the game summed it up perfectly when they said
00:58:13they haven't delivered what they wanted to this season.
00:58:15They wanted this game to be a trophy lift
00:58:17day and it hasn't been for them.
00:58:19But I thought it was a good week for Arsenal. The second
00:58:21half at Anfield, I thought the second half
00:58:23yesterday, they've got the job done. They're going to
00:58:25finish second and the momentum's
00:58:27not completely gone. But they now know
00:58:29what they need to do next season. Rice,
00:58:31fantastic goal. And yesterday
00:58:33in the second half, I was thinking with Saliba
00:58:35going off, Newcastle a better team in the
00:58:37first half. They were up against it, but they responded
00:58:39really well in both weeks.
00:58:41And I think they can take a little bit of something
00:58:43into next season, but there's a quite clear
00:58:45I think
00:58:47precise way they're looking at it now.
00:58:49We know we have to win next season. We know we have to
00:58:51do the right business this summer. And I think
00:58:53they will do the business this summer. They've just got
00:58:55to make sure now they get over the line next year.
00:58:57We can't be stood here at the end of next season
00:58:59saying, I'm sorry we didn't win again.
00:59:01But of course, the Premier League weekend
00:59:03started on Friday night. And were these actually
00:59:05the two most predictable results
00:59:07of the weekend? Aston Villa beating
00:59:09Spurs, Chelsea beating Manchester
00:59:11United.
00:59:13I mean,
00:59:15talk about Villa.
00:59:17There's no more words.
00:59:19Listen, Villa,
00:59:21you know the one thing I think if I was a Villa
00:59:23fan, be watching Crystal Palace at the
00:59:25weekend thinking, oh, they had such an
00:59:27opportunity. Listen, brilliant for Crystal Palace,
00:59:29but we know Aston Villa are probably a level above Crystal
00:59:31Palace, but Crystal Palace were fantastic on the day.
00:59:33And that's just the one thing. They had a great run in the
00:59:35Champions League. They've got a great chance of
00:59:37getting Champions League. That reaction told
00:59:39us everything. Yeah. And listen, maybe for that
00:59:41club, because of the financial situation they have at the moment,
00:59:43they'd probably prefer to be in the Champions League
00:59:45than maybe win the FA Cup final. But I think
00:59:47it was a huge opportunity playing Crystal Palace
00:59:49and also playing a Man City who aren't the Man City
00:59:51we've seen. Chelsea did the job, fullback to
00:59:53back. Yeah. Cara's just talked about
00:59:55Liverpool's fullbacks coming inside.
00:59:57You see Kukerel and you'll eventually see this come over
00:59:59to Rhys James.
01:00:01And it was an important night for Chelsea. They needed to
01:00:03win. You could see, actually, the celebrations during
01:00:05the game, before the end of the game, actually.
01:00:07They needed to win. They've got a
01:00:09huge last game coming up, obviously, at Nottingham
01:00:11Forest. I actually, when I saw Rhys
01:00:13James do this, there was a coach at United that tried
01:00:15to teach me this trick. How did he get on?
01:00:17No, it didn't go very well.
01:00:19For him or you? It did not go...
01:00:21It is beautiful, isn't it?
01:00:25I'm dizzy. But it's a beautiful
01:00:27little cross. And Gio Kukerel, well
01:00:29done to him. You know, I have to say fullbacks
01:00:31nowadays, they do, like the
01:00:33word, mesmerise. They mesmerise with the positions
01:00:35that they turn up in. Because they do take risks.
01:00:37I mean, I know they're encouraged too, but well
01:00:39done to them. I think this is really interesting. You gave him a bit of stick
01:00:41on the summer, didn't you? For his defending.
01:00:43Not for his attacking. Look, he's
01:00:45an actual energy upfitter. Before the tournament, after he won it.
01:00:47This is interesting
01:00:49because he's scored a similar goal.
01:00:51December the 15th against Brentford. With his head
01:00:53that was two in 94
01:00:55appearances and now he's got five
01:00:57in, I think it's 21 since
01:00:59then. And he's had more touches than any defender
01:01:01in the opposition box since. So he's obviously
01:01:03decided this is something that he can
01:01:05contribute to Chelsea. Listen,
01:01:07credit to Moresky, I think this is something that happened very
01:01:09early on. Our Anistat always goes back to
01:01:11the Chelsea game at Anfield. You mentioned it before
01:01:13where Chelsea was sort of playing around Liverpool.
01:01:15A lot of it was, I don't think it was Kukeret, I'm sure
01:01:17it was Gusto who was actually playing. We thought
01:01:19he was going to play left back. He actually played high in his
01:01:21number 10 position when Chelsea had the ball.
01:01:23And I think that's what he's benefiting from. Because even at the
01:01:25start of that sort of clip, he's in that
01:01:27number 10 position. That, again, is
01:01:29almost like the next step of where full-backs
01:01:31are playing. So, Chelsea got the
01:01:33job done and Aston Villa got the
01:01:35job done and that meant
01:01:37big pressure on Nottingham Forest.
01:01:39It was vital getting that first goal,
01:01:41Gary. Oh, absolutely.
01:01:43I mean, look, I think everybody wanted
01:01:45Nottingham Forest to win this weekend because they needed to set
01:01:47that last game up. They deserved that opportunity
01:01:49to qualify for the Champions League.
01:01:51Obviously, they're up against it.
01:01:53I actually thought, for some reason, I just thought
01:01:55that it might come away from them, but they got
01:01:57a little bit of a helping hand there. I mean, the amount of times
01:01:59I'm watching goalkeepers, not just in this league, but
01:02:01every league, do this.
01:02:03It's incredible. But, fair
01:02:05credit, Morten Gibbs-White, he's alive.
01:02:07He knows what's coming. He sees anticipation.
01:02:09He goes that way and then he just checks
01:02:11back. Brilliant work from him.
01:02:13Fantastic player.
01:02:15Forest deserved that, definitely, in the first half.
01:02:17But they had to hang on a bit, Jamie.
01:02:19Yeah, they did. I mean, the bowling goal was absolutely
01:02:21fantastic and sort of the hanging
01:02:23on there the last 10 minutes. I'm a little bit with Gary.
01:02:25You're commentating on the game, but probably
01:02:27almost you're thinking, you want Forest to hang on,
01:02:29take it to next week. It's going to be such a big game.
01:02:31Yeah, there weren't many in the West Ham crowd that would feel the same
01:02:33as you two, I don't think. No, I get
01:02:35that, but in terms of sort of being neutral, you're
01:02:37watching the game and, listen, the bowling goal was probably
01:02:39one of the goals of the season, probably West Ham's goal
01:02:41of the season. It was fantastic and it made it a little bit
01:02:43exciting, but we saw the other side of Nottingham Forest
01:02:45later on in the game because they had dominated
01:02:47for the majority of it. So who stood out for you?
01:02:49The centre-back, Milenkovic. He
01:02:51gave what I looked at like a proper
01:02:53centre-back's performance in that
01:02:55first half. He was on the front foot, he was aggressive,
01:02:57he gets a goal,
01:02:59set piecewise. He was fantastic.
01:03:01I love watching him play. We're just going to
01:03:03look at him here because a lot of the time we
01:03:05think about these two centre-backs, Murillo as well,
01:03:07haven't been on the edge of their own box, but look at
01:03:09him, high up the pitch, he's against Bowen.
01:03:11Every time the ball moves,
01:03:13he moves his position. Side on
01:03:15as centre-backs always have to be, he's on his toes
01:03:17permanently. He doesn't get too tight, look, he just
01:03:19drops off in case that ball goes in behind.
01:03:21Now he knows the ball's going into his feet, he's aggressive.
01:03:23He's right on top of him, but that's
01:03:25not enough. He jumps again because he's there.
01:03:27That's a leader.
01:03:29Not just going after Bowen,
01:03:31he can win the ball again, he's aggressive,
01:03:33and that's what they were, Nottingham Forest, in that first
01:03:35half. They were too powerful and aggressive
01:03:37for West Ham.
01:03:39We see him here again.
01:03:41Comes in
01:03:43again. Again, he's just a little bit
01:03:45off him in case the ball goes in behind him. Again, what does
01:03:47he do? Doesn't win it off his own, man.
01:03:49He jumps again, and aggressive.
01:03:51And Nottingham Forest almost gets something
01:03:53from it. So from foot defender,
01:03:55sides on, ready for the ball
01:03:57to go in behind him, and if it goes to feet, he's
01:03:59tight and aggressive. This one
01:04:01I absolutely love because
01:04:03the big thing you've got as a centre-back
01:04:05is, and when you
01:04:07play there, you don't want anybody
01:04:09to get the ball between the lines here,
01:04:11turn and run at you. So you've got to make sure you can
01:04:13go in there at certain times, but the worst
01:04:15thing that can ever happen is the ball goes in behind you.
01:04:17So you've always got that conundrum of
01:04:19making sure your team are compact, and there's
01:04:21no space between the lines, and they can't get in behind
01:04:23you. Just watch what he does here.
01:04:25So he's with Bowen. Just watch Bowen,
01:04:27have a look over his shoulder. He knows Milenkovic is there,
01:04:29he's been there all day. He goes with him,
01:04:31he goes with him, and he stops
01:04:33now. He puts the brakes on
01:04:35because he knows, one, he's got
01:04:37two midfield players here who can look after Bowen,
01:04:39but he sees the runner. Now, a lot of players
01:04:41now, in the game, are obsessed
01:04:43with their own man. So he could have easily
01:04:45gone in there and said, you never ran back with
01:04:47him, you never ran back with him. But a leader,
01:04:49a centre-back knows, sometimes
01:04:51you can't trust players around you. So you go
01:04:53in there, you don't go all the way, he puts the brakes
01:04:55on, sees the danger, and deals with
01:04:57it brilliantly. I thought it was absolutely
01:04:59fantastic, and that's the conundrum for any
01:05:01centre-back. Do you go in there
01:05:03too deep, and he wins the tackle
01:05:05there. And then there's a situation
01:05:07at a corner,
01:05:09I think,
01:05:11certainly in the first half. Now, he gets blocked
01:05:13off, similar to what someone would do to Van Dijk,
01:05:15because he's so dominant in the air.
01:05:17So he gets blocked off. Just keep an eye on him here,
01:05:19again, being a leader. So he's with
01:05:2126 here,
01:05:23but he's in this zone. So
01:05:2526 now moves out of the zone, here.
01:05:27He doesn't go and say, that's my man,
01:05:29I'm going with him. He knows this position's vital.
01:05:31Now he pushes another player away, I think it's
01:05:33Bowen. Now he's here with
01:05:35Thibaut. So this, again,
01:05:37is a leader. A man who wants to
01:05:39head the ball. He's not just...
01:05:41And I see this too much on set pieces, especially
01:05:43with centre-backs, where they think,
01:05:45I've got my man. My man's not going
01:05:47to score. He's a
01:05:49leader. He does really well. But then,
01:05:51in the box, he gets this goal.
01:05:53Now, I'm still trying to work out,
01:05:55does he know too much about it?
01:05:57It looks like it just comes off the back of his neck,
01:05:59in that position.
01:06:01We know the mess with VAR.
01:06:03It looks like there's intent there. I think there is
01:06:05intent there, to get something on it. It was a
01:06:07vital goal. Five goals he's got this
01:06:09season. So he's doing it at one end, he's doing
01:06:11it at another. He's a top player.
01:06:13But yes, as I thought, that was one of the best
01:06:15centre-back performances I've seen in the Premier League
01:06:17this season. And Gary, he reminds you of someone
01:06:19you know very well. He reminds me of Vidic.
01:06:21These defenders, 15, 20 years
01:06:23ago, there were a lot of these types of
01:06:25defenders that weren't maybe the quickest,
01:06:27but they knew their position really well. I played with Steve
01:06:29Bruce, played with Emanuel Vidic, who were players that
01:06:31believed it was their duty to head every single ball
01:06:33that was in the box. They couldn't lose a header.
01:06:35They were really sort of determined in everything
01:06:37that they did. But they also had to be positioned
01:06:39really well all the time, because their
01:06:41pace couldn't get them out of the hole. He really
01:06:43reminds me of him, and he's a tough... I think he's been
01:06:45brilliant for Forrest this season. They had to work
01:06:47hard, and Milenkovic, as you say, was right at the heart
01:06:49of it. And West Ham gave it a real go
01:06:51to get some points in their final home game
01:06:53this season. But this is a measure of how
01:06:55hard they had to work defensively. 98
01:06:57defensive actions in the game.
01:06:59Only Leicester have had more in a match
01:07:01this season when they were beaten late on
01:07:03at Arsenal. But interesting to see
01:07:05Forrest feature on there three
01:07:07times. And I think I'm right saying that's seven points
01:07:09they took from those possible nine.
01:07:11What does that tell us about Forrest, Jamie?
01:07:13Listen, I think we all know what Forrest
01:07:15are like as a team. We've just heard Arne Slott in his
01:07:17interview say Forrest are different to all the other top teams.
01:07:19And we know what they do. They defend deep.
01:07:21They allow the opposition to have a lot of shots, but they're not great
01:07:23opportunities. Their xG value is not very
01:07:25high. But what I would say is I feel like
01:07:27almost in some ways, because I commentate on the game
01:07:29yesterday, that was a little bit of an outlier yesterday
01:07:31because Nottingham Forrest absolutely dominated
01:07:33West Ham. It was only the last 10 minutes of the game
01:07:35that West Ham came in. So this wasn't like a
01:07:37rearguard action. A lot of those challenges
01:07:39as we saw in those clips were on the
01:07:41halfway line. Big tackles. As I said,
01:07:43they were far too aggressive and powerful for West Ham.
01:07:45We are seeing records tumbling this
01:07:47season. The most ever that we've had
01:07:49in Champions League places in the final days.
01:07:51Three teams. This season we have
01:07:53got five. Forrest among them, who in seventh
01:07:55place have already got 65 points.
01:07:57That is also a Premier League
01:07:59record. Do you see
01:08:01them giving Chelsea a tough day?
01:08:03They'll give Chelsea a tough day.
01:08:05100%.
01:08:07I'm not
01:08:09sure Chelsea are going to go there and win. I'll be really
01:08:11honest with you. I do feel that it depends
01:08:13what Old Trafford is like on Sunday. It could be
01:08:15euphoric or it could be a difficult atmosphere
01:08:17depending on what happens on Wednesday night. I think
01:08:19if Villa win, they'll get into the Champions League
01:08:21because I think Forrest will take points off Chelsea.
01:08:23My next question is going to be what kind of Manchester
01:08:25United Aston Villa are going to be facing
01:08:27on Sunday? If I knew that, Dave,
01:08:29then...
01:08:31What does your hunch tell you?
01:08:33If that trophy parades on,
01:08:35it'll be euphoric in the sense of winning a trophy,
01:08:37bringing the Europa League back.
01:08:39However, if they weren't to win,
01:08:41Old Trafford on Sunday will be a very difficult place.
01:08:43Do you think they will win?
01:08:45I think United will win on Wednesday
01:08:47night, which makes it
01:08:49a little bit tougher for Villa on Sunday.
01:08:51But if Villa can win at Old Trafford, I do
01:08:53think they'll get into the Champions League. Do you think those
01:08:55pictures look awkward for Manchester City, Jamie?
01:08:57Yeah. It's not easy.
01:08:59On the back of playing a cup final,
01:09:01Bournemouth didn't play at the weekend.
01:09:03Wembley's a big pitch. Takes it out of you, you've lost.
01:09:05Got to lift yourself again.
01:09:07Bournemouth's not the type of team you want in terms
01:09:09of pressing and being aggressive and getting after you.
01:09:11Who do you think's in there
01:09:13as you stand there now?
01:09:15I think Chelsea and Nottingham Forest
01:09:17might both miss out. I can see that being a draw
01:09:19at the weekend. I don't see Chelsea going there.
01:09:21I think the atmosphere there will be absolutely
01:09:23electric. Nottingham Forest deserve
01:09:25that. I'm not sure Chelsea
01:09:27have got the character and personality to go there
01:09:29and win. So Villa and City go in?
01:09:31I think Villa and City will go in.
01:09:33If I was predicting there now, Villa
01:09:35and City going, I agree with him. I think that Chelsea
01:09:37and Forest will probably draw.
01:09:39It is a huge game at the city

01:15:04There's no Tariq Lamptey tonight.
01:15:06And Mata Raleigh is on the bench.
01:15:08Jao Padro not in the squad.
01:15:10But Danny Welbeck starts.
01:15:12Looking to add to his 10 goals for the season.
01:15:14And what a career Danny Welbeck
01:15:16has had so far.
01:15:18So it is an 18-year-old at Manchester United.
01:15:20Got off the mark.
01:15:22Six goals in a very promising loan spell at Sunderland.
01:15:24Hit nine twice.
01:15:26Then to Arsenal where he never managed more than five goals in a season.
01:15:28One year at Watford.
01:15:30Scored twice there.
01:15:32And then he's got five seasons under his belt
01:15:34at Brighton.
01:15:36And finally in season number 17
01:15:38he hits double figures for the first time.
01:15:40How much does he deserve that?
01:15:42Yeah, I mean there's a couple of things to put this in context.
01:15:44One is that he played a lot wide in his earlier career.
01:15:46But the big thing is that he's playing his 24th start
01:15:48tonight in the Premier League.
01:15:50That's the most he's ever started
01:15:52in his whole career.
01:15:54Which means he's had big problems with injuries and consistency.
01:15:56So to get those numbers, I think he's brilliant.
01:15:58I think he's in the best moment of his career.
01:16:00He's got the most consistent and reliable period at Brighton.
01:16:02And I think, you know, Carragher,
01:16:04you mentioned tonight about the two centre-backs at Liverpool.
01:16:06He will test you in every single way.
01:16:08He's good now on the ball.
01:16:10Well, he was good on the ball until he miscontrolled that.
01:16:12LAUGHTER
01:16:14But do you think he's got that hunger still?
01:16:16Because he hasn't played that much.
01:16:18Oh no, I saw him earlier on in the season.
01:16:20Absolutely. I think this is his most enjoyable period
01:16:22in his career that he's having now at Brighton.
01:16:24Mo Salah might have been knocking on the door,
01:16:26said Arnold Slott, if he wasn't included tonight.
01:16:28In a night where Liverpool do make changes.
01:16:30But Salah was never likely to be among them, was he?
01:16:32With this record very much in sight, Jamie.
01:16:34No, and that's why I continually said all season,
01:16:36I didn't see him moving on.
01:16:38He's obsessed with those numbers.
01:16:40And rightly so.
01:16:42And so is everybody else on that list.
01:16:44And again, rightly so.
01:16:46He will want to stay at Liverpool.
01:16:48He's signed a two-year contract.
01:16:50If he's in the same sort of form, and fingers crossed
01:16:52that is the case, he'll want to stay again
01:16:54because he'll want to break more records
01:16:56whether that's at Liverpool or the Premier League.
01:16:58But the interesting thing with him,
01:17:00it doesn't seem to matter to him now
01:17:02whether he gets a goal or an assist.
01:17:04He looks like he's enjoying making them
01:17:06as much as scoring them.
01:17:08In the past, he's been called a greedy so-and-so
01:17:10at different times by different pundits.
01:17:12But it stood out so much in the game at Arsenal
01:17:14where our vantage point, I was just looking down
01:17:16and he laid one on to Luis Diaz
01:17:18and you said he was so frustrated when he interviewed him
01:17:20that Luis Diaz missed.
01:17:22I implore everybody to watch Mo Salah tonight
01:17:24when he's in that dangerous position on his left
01:17:26is he looking to pass or looking to shoot
01:17:28because I think he's desperate
01:17:30for this record to beat.
01:17:32Well, that is an individual record as well, the 20 assists
01:17:34which Thierry Henry shares with Kevin De Bruyne.
01:17:36So he'll be looking to maybe get past that
01:17:38either tonight or against Crystal Palace
01:17:40on the final day as well.
01:17:42There's still a lot for the champions to play for.
01:17:44There certainly is for Brighton.
01:17:46Still with an outside shot of Europe.
01:17:48Could they get a step closer tonight?
