00:00And this is some way for Brighton to end their home programme for this season
00:06and keep themselves in the hunt for European football next season
00:10if indeed eighth place ends up granting that.
00:14For Liverpool, the mere consolation of having carried on
00:18scoring in every away game in this Premier League season
00:21but they've now been given guards of honour by three different teams since winning the title
00:26and from those games they've taken just a single point.
00:30Brighton three, Liverpool two.
00:34Yeah, it wasn't to be most sad last night.
00:36Fantastic night for Fabian Herzen and his Brighton team
00:39and his young substitute Jack Hinshelwood
00:41and his cousin as well, Harry Howell, who didn't manage to get on the score sheet
00:45but made an impression in the minutes that he had.
00:51And just who knows how significant this could prove to be for the Seagulls
00:55with just one game left in their season.
00:57They have climbed back into eighth place.
00:59They have a three-point lead over Brentford who have a superior goal difference.
01:03Eighth place could be enough for Europe next season.
01:07We'll say it and we'll keep saying it.
01:09Fulham can't catch them but if you drop into the bottom half,
01:13Bournemouth could because they still have two games left to play
01:19starting at Manchester City tomorrow night.
01:26We've got one weekend left in this season
01:29but we are already looking forward to our biggest season ever on Sky Sports.
01:34215 live games at least for you next season up from 128 this time around.
01:41We are going to be busy
01:43and you're going to have a lot of Premier League football to watch with us.
01:47And Big Zoo and AJ Tracey's Rich Flavours starts Tuesday on Sky Max.
01:55And tonight Brighton were cooking up a comeback at the American Express Stadium.
02:01Liverpool in front at half-time.
02:04The Seagulls found a way back into it.
02:07We'll get the thoughts of Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville in a moment.
02:11We've got their teams of the season, their Monday Night Football Awards to come as well.
02:14But before then we'll bring you reaction from Brighton.
02:26With it right across and how's that?
02:28For an introduction, no he's offside.
02:31They can celebrate because they are ahead here
02:35and Jack Hinshawood after a nervous wait celebrates the goal.
02:43Wow what a moment for Jack Hinshawood, not his first Premier League goal,
02:46his third of the season in fact.
02:47But a big moment coming off the bench to win that for Brighton tonight.
02:5225 shots to Liverpool's 18 at the expected goals tally,
02:57almost four and a half between the two.
02:58And the first time this season in a game
03:00we've had more than 100 touches in the opposition box.
03:0360 to Brighton, we're 2-1 down at half-time.
03:0645 to Liverpool who let a 2-1 lead slip.
03:11Let's speak to the match winner.
03:14Jack Hinshawood joins us live now from the American Express Stadium.
03:18Good evening to you Jack and many congratulations.
03:21How did that feel?
03:22That wait must have been tough for the goal to be given.
03:27Yeah I think obviously first of all just coming off the bench
03:30I wanted to come into the game and make a great impact
03:33and just work my hardest.
03:35And yeah I think the ball come across
03:37and you know it was set up perfectly
03:40and obviously tapped it in.
03:42And then yeah there was a nervous wait until the goal was allowed.
03:46But when it was allowed it was just pure relief.
03:49We can show you the goal actually Jack now.
03:51And it's interesting because it's your cousin
03:54that makes the near post run as well.
03:56I think he was trying to get on the end of it.
04:00Yeah I think obviously it was a really nice moment today
04:02coming on with my cousin.
04:04You know we've been working so hard since we were kids.
04:06I think playing together from the ages
04:09you know when we were just born
04:12kicking balls with each other.
04:13So to come on together and obviously
04:15he's made a great run across the front post
04:17to open up the gap for me.
04:18So I'll be thanking him later.
04:19Very, very special moment.
04:21And he was of course now Brighton's youngest ever player
04:24at just over 17.
04:25Now your celebration tells us something as well Jack.
04:28What can you tell us?
04:29Is there some good news?
04:32Yeah I think I've been due a goal a while.
04:34The missus has been banging on at me
04:37to get the celebration in.
04:38So we've got a baby on the way.
04:40So we're really excited.
04:42And yeah it's my first one.
04:44So excited to be making a family together.
04:47That's amazing.
04:48What a story at the age of 20 as well.
04:50And you're from this incredible football dynasty.
04:53I was just telling the guys before
04:54your dad is Adam.
04:56He's the manager of York
04:58with this huge playoff game tomorrow night
05:00as well against Oldham.
05:02It's quite the week for you.
05:04Yeah you know amazing.
05:05I think I'm so proud of all my family
05:08and my cousin tonight.
05:09My dad who's obviously got a massive game tomorrow.
05:13There's a five hour journey
05:14but I might try and make it up.
05:16We'll see.
05:17Yeah but we all just try to support each other
05:19as much as we can.
05:20And we just love football at the end of the day.
05:22It's what we've all done since the age
05:25since we were so young.
05:27So you know to all be in the professional game
05:30is a really nice feeling.
05:32Jack you've had a brilliant season.
05:33You've played lots of games for Brighton.
05:35But probably similar to me at your age.
05:37You play lots of positions in there.
05:39I mean how have you found that?
05:40Do you think that's sort of almost a bonus for you?
05:42Or do you think that might have to change going forward
05:44if you want to nail down one position?
05:48Yeah I think obviously I've played a few different positions.
05:50And you know I just try to work my hardest every day.
05:53Whatever position is going to get me in the team
05:56is the one I'm willing to play.
05:57You know I won't shy away from a challenge.
06:00I'll play whatever position the manager
06:02or my teammates need me to play.
06:04So it's just a joy to be out on the pitch with them.
06:07Can you just explain about you know
06:08what the managers brought to Brighton this season?
06:10Because obviously you've had really top managers in the past.
06:12Obviously looking at Zerby who he followed.
06:15But at times it's been a little bit bumpy
06:18in terms of the streaks that you've had.
06:20But I mean you've got a chance of European football
06:23on the final day.
06:25Yeah I think obviously we've had a few tough spells
06:28throughout the season.
06:28I think these things happen when we have a lot of new players
06:31and new manager.
06:32We're all trying to adapt to his style.
06:33I think he's brought a great freshness
06:36and intensity to the team.
06:38And you know I think the main thing is we're all together.
06:41You know we go through these moments together.
06:43And I think over time we're going to come good together.
06:48And you see we can produce moments like tonight.
06:51And we just need to produce more moments like that
06:53going forward.
06:54Jack you've looked a natural at the Premier League
06:56since you burst into the team as a very young man.
06:59And tell us a little bit more about your cousin Harry
07:02and what we should expect from him moving forward.
07:06Yeah I think he's got great ability.
07:08He's been working so hard this last month.
07:10I'm just so pleased for him.
07:12He's been grinding away in the background.
07:14Probably not had as much time in the playing team
07:18and training and stuff like that.
07:20But he's been working so hard and not let it get to him.
07:22So for him to get that moment tonight coming on
07:24and play a big part in the goal is really special.
07:28And I'm so pleased for him.
07:29Well congratulations on a brilliant night for you
07:31and your football club as well.
07:32And good luck as well to your dad tomorrow night.
07:36Sending my best wishes.
07:38Nice one.
07:38Thank you very much.
07:38Cheers guys.
07:40That's the match winner tonight Jack Hinsherwood
07:43who of course got the winning goal.
07:44But tell us what a difference Matoma made
07:47when he came into it as well.
07:48Absolutely incredible.
07:49I mean look I just want to take you through this to start with.
07:51I've been so critical at times this season.
07:53These are the Liverpool players that are all there
07:55ready to press.
07:57Of when teams get it wrong playing from the back.
08:00Well we were talking about it with West Ham earlier.
08:01Yeah you're thinking to be fair there's nowhere to go here.
08:04Just clear that.
08:05And the Liverpool that are set up front six
08:07are all over those Brighton players.
08:09And it's absolutely brilliantness.
08:13You think there's nowhere to go.
08:14They're all ready to pounce.
08:15They're all ready to jump and press.
08:17And just when I watch Curtis Jones here now
08:20who's with Boliva.
08:22And he thinks that Iyari is going to play the back.
08:23And he just slips it in there.
08:25And he takes five players really out of the game.
08:28And from that moment he just opens the whole game up.
08:30But from here they just attack as any Brighton team would
08:34over the last two or three years with real pace.
08:36Matoma is as you say a Dave.
08:38He changed the game.
08:38He was absolutely brilliant.
08:40Welbeck gets the shot away.
08:42Maybe Alisson could have done better with that
08:44when he made so many great saves.
08:46But it's wonderful play this from back to front.
08:48And you know we do give teams criticism
08:50when they don't get it right playing out from the back.
08:51So they deserve credit when they do it right.
08:53And this was wonderful.
08:54I'm not quite sure what can Artie do
08:56when he comes over too early and leaves Welbeck.
08:58But Matoma which always carries his run on
09:00which every great wide player will.
09:01And still a bit to do.
09:02It's a great finish.
09:03Rob mentioned it in commentary.
09:04We would have seen a lot more of him in the last six games
09:06had he not had these heel and calf problems.
09:08You could tell the difference that he made.
09:10The quality that he brought to Brighton.
09:11He's just a class player.
09:13And I was thinking of the lad who moved to PSG.
09:16I'm going to try and pronounce his name.
09:18Varaskelya?
09:19Oh yes.
09:20Yeah.
09:20He's almost got a...
09:21Georgian.
09:21Varaskelya.
09:22Yes.
09:22Whatever his name is.
09:23That wasn't right either.
09:25But he looks that type of play.
09:27You know just the first touch just kills the ball.
09:29I'm sure he'll be involved later on.
09:30We're looking at goal of the season as well
09:31for the one that he got.
09:33I think it was against Chelsea.
09:34It's just when you see him control a ball
09:36and the ball gets switched to a wide player.
09:38I don't think there's many wide players
09:40in the Premier League whose first touch
09:42are as good as him.
09:42He definitely made a huge difference when he came on.
09:44He's been a brilliant player for them
09:45for two or three years hasn't he?
09:47Yeah.
09:47Certainly has.
09:4828 tomorrow.
09:50Let's have a look at the winning goal then.
09:51We've seen it with the man who scored it.
09:53Who had an anxious couple of moments
09:55waiting for the verdict.
09:56You were pretty confident here Gary
09:57when you saw it I think.
09:59What?
09:59That he was onside?
10:00He was onside.
10:01Yeah.
10:01Yeah.
10:01I mean just...
10:02No he wanted it to be onside.
10:04Look.
10:04Qantas doesn't do that well with his first clearance.
10:07And then they just set it up a little bit.
10:08He's patient here Mitomi.
10:09He just slips it down the side.
10:12And we'll see it from a better angle just now.
10:15This is the great angle.
10:16I mean as Qantas clears this first one
10:20he then gets involved on the second one.
10:22He just steps up.
10:23Watch him step up Qantas in the middle.
10:25He steps up there.
10:27Watch him in this next movement.
10:30Yeah and he steps up there.
10:30He plays offside and then he can't get back in.
10:33It's a lovely little finish though isn't it?
10:35Yeah it is.
10:35Listen a good goal from their point of view.
10:38These are the margins.
10:38This is what VAR is for.
10:41And it's a really good cross.
10:42That's Virgil van Dijk though all day long.
10:43You see Virgil van Dijk always gets back
10:45and clears that one in that sort of time.
10:46Yeah he does.
10:47And you know what?
10:48Throughout the game.
10:48I said before the game I was really interested
10:50to look at the two centre-backs.
10:52And I actually thought Joel Qantas did well
10:54until that goal.
10:55He could have done better as offside.
10:56We're talking inches there.
10:59But I wanted a bit more from Canardi tonight.
11:01You mentioned on that on the second goal.
11:03Now I know Liverpool players are being aware
11:05and they're not at their best.
11:07You know the intensity is probably not there
11:08and it's probably a little bit easier
11:09to get at the back four than it would be as normal.
11:11But even on the second goal,
11:12Canardi does something a bit ridiculous.
11:14He comes flying out of position
11:15to try and press when the ball goes over his head.
11:17And I've just always had the feeling,
11:20I think with all the centre-backs
11:22who've played alongside Virgil van Dijk,
11:24I've almost wanted to see them on their own for a period.
11:28I haven't because I want van Dijk to play every week.
11:30But I've almost thought playing against
11:32one of the probably the best centre-backs
11:33we've ever seen in the Premier League.
11:35I'd love to see them on their own.
11:37And I want a little bit more from them,
11:39not in terms that you made a mistake,
11:40we all make mistakes as defenders,
11:41but almost that leadership that I was talking about.
11:44I used to say this about Joe Gomez,
11:46I used to say about Matip, I used to say about Canardi.
11:48Now I'm really interested to see them have 10, 15 games
11:51without Virgil van Dijk and be the leader at the back
11:54and organise people and make people around them do better.
11:57That was certainly lacking from Canardi,
11:58especially second half.
12:00He was watching on with the rest of us tonight.
12:01Virgil van Dijk could do nothing about the Brighton comeback,
12:04but didn't stop the Liverpool fans celebrating.
12:0720, if you need a reminding.
12:1020 league titles.
12:14And we'll bring you some Liverpool reaction
12:16in just a couple of minutes.
12:24One point from three games since winning the title,
12:26but try telling Liverpool and their players
12:29there's anything to worry about right now.
12:31Let's get to Arnaud Slot's reaction
12:33to this defeat at Brighton with David Craig.
12:37Arnaud, an incredible game of football
12:39to watch from the sidelines,
12:40a game that you appeared to be in control of at one point.
12:43Ultimately, though, was it wrestle from your grasp?
12:47Yeah, I think you see this correctly.
12:49It was an equal game,
12:50but the moment we were 2-1 up in the second half,
12:54I felt as if us scoring the third one
12:58was more realistic than them scoring the 2-2.
13:01But from the moment onwards when they scored the 2-2,
13:03I think momentum swung their way.
13:06And then they scored their third goal,
13:08which was also a close margin.
13:11These games are close margins
13:13because two very good teams on the pitch.
13:16And unfortunately, we didn't score the third
13:19one we had chances to.
13:20And after the 2-2, they did score the third goal.
13:23You said before the game tonight
13:25you made changes because you wanted to look at people
13:27that hadn't had a lot of football time for you,
13:29look towards the future.
13:31Despite the result,
13:33did those people take opportunities tonight
13:35to show you they have something to offer for the future?
13:38No, I've known these people, these players,
13:40already for 10 months,
13:41so it's not the first time I'm judging them.
13:45But it's nice to see that Harvey scored a goal.
13:47He had an assist, not the most difficult one,
13:50but he had an assist.
13:51Great goal by Dominik Subbersly.
13:53And Federico had a few good moments as well,
13:58especially if you take into account
14:00how long he's not been playing.
14:02So, unfortunately, he was one of the players
14:04that had the chance to make the one free
14:07when Mo squared the ball towards him.
14:10So, yeah, in general, I think it was a good game
14:14from both sides, two very strong teams.
14:16Wanting to play football,
14:17that's also what you don't always see.
14:19Both teams wanted to play football,
14:21no time wasting, no time delaying,
14:23just play football.
14:25And as a result of that,
14:26we saw a great game, I think.
14:28And tonight, despite the result,
14:30you've set a Premier League record,
14:31the first team to score two-plus goals
14:34in 31 Premier League games.
14:37What does that tell us about the firepower
14:40and the options that your side have?
14:43No, it's not only firepower,
14:45I think it's also that we create a lot.
14:47Because if you want to score a goal,
14:48you have to create a lot.
14:51Brighton today, by the way,
14:54the same, they've played out from the back very well,
14:57but we've played out from the back
14:58also multiple times really well.
15:00And then you can bring your attackers
15:02in promising positions.
15:03So it's not only that we have players
15:05that can score a goal,
15:06we bring them also so many times
15:08in those positions,
15:10that it's not a surprise
15:11that we score so many goals.
15:12Just finally, quickly finally,
15:14talking about the future,
15:15Jeremy Frimpong rumoured to have had a medical.
15:18Are you able to shed any light
15:19on whether that be true or not
15:21for us this evening?
15:22What do you think?
15:24Well, it's not up to me,
15:25I'm not signing him,
15:26but Arne, you're the man who might know.
15:29I think what we all know
15:30is the moment we announce it,
15:32that is the moment to talk about it in general.
15:35And we haven't announced anything,
15:37so no need to talk about anyone.
15:39Thank you, Arne.
15:40You're welcome.
15:40Thank you, well done.
15:41Well done, thanks.
15:42We await confirmation.
15:43What's he learned tonight, Arne Slott?
15:46Probably not too much.
15:46He just said that he knows the players well,
15:48even the fringe players,
15:49sees them every day.
15:51I think his answer at the end
15:52was probably quite telling
15:53in terms of they don't just have goal scorers,
15:55they create a lot of chances.
15:57And that's why Liverpool have won the league.
15:58Defensively, Arsenal are a better team.
16:00But in terms of goals and chances they create,
16:02they still should have scored three tonight at least.
16:06And I think that's now 31 games out of 37,
16:08they've scored two or more in a Premier League game,
16:11which is a record, I think,
16:13in the Premier League as well,
16:14which is pretty outstanding.
16:15And that's why they're champions.
16:16Exactly, that's why.
16:18So there we go.
16:18Good to hear from Arne Slott.
16:22Not too concerned about the result.
16:23Beaten 3-2 at Brighton this evening.
16:27Now then, when we return here,
16:29we will be talking about
16:31how many players will be from Liverpool
16:34in the team of the season.
16:36Will they be dominating
16:37the Monday Night Football Awards?
16:40Gary and Jamie will both be having their say
16:43when we come back.
16:51Welcome back to our final Monday Night Football
16:53of the season.
16:54And it is the tradition that we get into
16:56the Monday Night Football
16:58End of Season Awards.
16:59And they pick their teams of the season as well,
17:03Gary and Jamie.
17:04But before we do that,
17:05we're going to hold them to account
17:06for the predictions they made
17:08at the start of this season
17:10with limited success, I would say.
17:17Well, I suppose Gary got closest on the champions.
17:201-0 up.
17:23Hit the post with that one.
17:25I think you're about even in terms of,
17:27you know, I think you've got sort of
17:28three of the four, possibly,
17:30of the top four.
17:32And obviously you've got Manchester United
17:36in the top four, Gary.
17:37And Jamie, you've got them fifth.
17:40But Gary, you've got Spurs sixth.
17:41So there's a common theme here
17:43of these teams disappointing.
17:45We'll come to that a little bit more.
17:48Gary, you had Newcastle up there
17:50as European contender.
17:51West Ham, though, Jamie, I suppose,
17:53is one of the biggest surprises of the season.
17:57Yeah, I just thought with the manager coming in,
18:00I didn't think he was too different
18:01from David Moyes,
18:01but I just felt like he'd done
18:02a really good job at Wolves.
18:04They said he'd managed Real Madrid,
18:05he'd managed Spain.
18:07They had a real good goal transfer-wise as well,
18:09West Ham in the summer, didn't they?
18:10I think they spent as much as probably anyone,
18:12probably as much as Brighton, certainly,
18:14in the league, aren't they?
18:15Oh, it's been a shocking season for them.
18:17Relegation.
18:18You both went with Southampton and Leicester.
18:20Gary got the hat-trick
18:22of the three promoted clubs.
18:24My predictions are bad,
18:25but his are worse than mine.
18:27You're taking some pleasure in this.
18:29Well, not really.
18:30It just doesn't happen too often.
18:31It just goes to show, doesn't it?
18:32West Ham.
18:33Because the one that's really glaring there
18:35is Nottingham Forest to be relegated.
18:37But there was probably a few people that...
18:39I thought they were going to get another points thing
18:40or something like that.
18:42Is that what it was?
18:45You had not a lot of faith in Nuno.
18:47No.
18:49And you know what?
18:50When you actually look at the players,
18:52not just because of watching them yesterday,
18:53they have actually got good players.
18:55I don't think this season's actually a fluke.
18:56Listen, it might be tough to do what they've done
18:58this season, next season,
19:00but they have got some really good players in the team.
19:02Who do you think wins the player to watch,
19:05Minter or Timber?
19:08Well, I mean...
19:09Why have I chosen Timber at the start of the season
19:11as the player to watch?
19:12What mindset was it?
19:13What did he actually say, do you remember?
19:16I think he said to me, like,
19:17I think he might be the player to watch.
19:18He might be the...
19:18To be fair, I think it was to do with the fact
19:20that Arsenal had sort of maybe missed him,
19:22obviously, the previous season.
19:24Do you mean, do you think that's more bizarre
19:25than your manager to watch?
19:27Well, the managers to watch, to be fair,
19:28I think I've been proven right on all three.
19:30You picked three?
19:31Yeah, but what I'm saying is...
19:32You've got to be proven right on one of them.
19:33Yeah, but what I'm saying is,
19:33there were three young managers coming into the league,
19:35almost, Ten Hag not coming into the league,
19:37but youngish, thinking there's a lot on them all.
19:40And to be fair, Slott's...
19:41Ten Hag's older than Pep.
19:43Slott sailed like you wouldn't believe.
19:45Ten Hag's been sacked,
19:46and Marescua's on the edge of Champions League football,
19:49and on the edge of not getting Champions League football.
19:51So, yeah.
19:53I don't think any of them three are wrong.
19:54Room to improve.
19:55So, I think, yeah, the homework is going to be,
19:58yeah, room to improve.
19:59But we'll do better next time on the predictions.
20:02So, let's get into the awards then,
20:04which is more straightforward,
20:05because you're judging what you've seen,
20:06not predicting what you think you might see.
20:09Best player.
20:13Was this an easy one...
20:14Yeah.
20:15..for both of you?
20:16Yeah, so easy.
20:18I mean, he'll win every award, I would imagine.
20:20PFA, football writers, hours.
20:23Not that hours is a lie,
20:24but, yeah, he's the best player in the league by a mile this season.
20:28Why is it always the striker, the goalscorer?
20:30Could it have been Virgil van Dijk?
20:32Listen, it could have been.
20:34I think if you were asking me who'd come next,
20:36I think Virgil van Dijk's definitely, certainly in the run-up for me.
20:39If I was going again, I probably would go for van Dijk.
20:42But I just think Salah had that spell.
20:44It wasn't just that he was the top goalscorer.
20:47I mean, if he scores tonight...
20:48Listen, he'll be frustrated.
20:50He's captain of Liverpool for the first time.
20:51Liverpool have lost, and he had that chance, I think,
20:53to go level with Alan Shearer and Andy Cole on goal involvements.
20:56He can still sort of fix that for himself at the weekend,
20:59but I think that'll frustrate him.
21:00So it's not just him being the top goalscorer,
21:02he's having one of his best-ever seasons in terms of numbers.
21:05It's actually interesting you say that,
21:07because if you said to me,
21:08which Liverpool player would you...
21:10With those three that were running down the contracts,
21:12which one would you think that they would miss most?
21:14It would be van Dijk.
21:15I think he's the biggest impact, I think,
21:17on the logistics of his leadership
21:18and just what he does for the team.
21:20But in terms of just sometimes the goals, the assists,
21:23they always catch the eye, and those players win the trophies.
21:26You've also agreed on the best young player,
21:30an 18-year-old from Arsenal, Miles Lewis Skelly.
21:34What is it about him?
21:35I mean, this has been a real breakthrough season for him,
21:39halfway through the season.
21:40What is it about him?
21:40I mean, he probably hasn't played a full season.
21:42I don't know what his numbers are games-wise,
21:44but when I think of young players,
21:46and I think the list has come out,
21:47hasn't it, a week or so ago?
21:48He wasn't on it.
21:49I know, but there's players who are like 23, 24.
21:53Now, I think if you're 20, 21, for me, that's young.
21:56But he's only 18.
21:57That's proper young.
21:59That's when we've both probably got into big football clubs
22:01at 18, and you're a baby.
22:03You know, the thought that, you know,
22:05he could win Young Player of the Year at that age,
22:06that's something like Michael Owen does,
22:08or maybe Wayne Rooney, you know,
22:09absolute superstars at that age.
22:11And I couldn't believe he wasn't on that list.
22:13And the reason I went for him was,
22:15because there was obviously other people in the running,
22:17it was more how well he's played in big games
22:20that I've watched, you know, against Man City,
22:22against Liverpool, against, sort of, in the Burnabout.
22:25It was more five or six big performances
22:28in big venues where I thought,
22:29I remember going to those places at 23, 24,
22:32and that was a lot for me to do that.
22:34And to actually go there and play well,
22:36you almost felt like you needed to be in your peak
22:38to go to these big stadiums and play really well
22:40and sort of feel comfortable and maybe,
22:42not dominate the opponents,
22:43but feel like I can go there
22:45and be one of the best players.
22:46But he's doing that at 18.
22:48I watched him in the Burnabout, I was like, wow.
22:49You know, it was just off the,
22:50I mean, it doesn't get any bigger than the Burnabout.
22:53What's bigger after that in terms of a stadium
22:55that you want to go to?
22:55Potentially playing in a World Cup,
22:56which is something that maybe Thomas Tuchel
22:58is already thinking about with him.
23:00Yeah, that's been a massive problem position for Arsenal.
23:04You know, Tierney's in Chanko,
23:05Kivio's played there,
23:07Tommy Assu's played there,
23:08Timber's gone there,
23:09and he's gone and he's made it look like it's been his,
23:11it's like he's always been there.
23:12And that's the biggest compliment you can play
23:14to a young player is that they slot in.
23:15And look, Saka's done it for Arsenal as well
23:17in the last few years.
23:18But to go in that position and do what he's done,
23:21and like Kara says,
23:22the ability to take the ball in the biggest games,
23:24in tight situations,
23:25and it's incredible what he's doing.
23:28They've got to change the criteria
23:29on this young player of the year.
23:30There's players in there that are 23, 24 years of age.
23:33Gravenberch, I think was 23 this week,
23:35he was 22 for obviously most of this season.
23:38He comes close,
23:39but when you think young player,
23:42I think the criteria is 23 at the start of the season.
23:43It's just not right though, is it?
23:44That's 23, I mean, I know-
23:4523 feels a bit old.
23:46It is too old for what you would class
23:48as being a young player.
23:4923 lads can play 200, 300 games.
23:52I think starting the season at 21,
23:54and you finish the season at 22 feels for me,
23:57that's probably where the criteria is.
23:58Can he be an England regular then
23:59in terms of next season and the World Cup?
24:01Oh, definitely, definitely.
24:03The way he's playing,
24:03the maturity that he shows,
24:04the way in which he handles both sides of the games,
24:06the defensive part and the attacking part.
24:09He goes into midfield,
24:10all the things you want from a modern forward.
24:12He's tenacious, he's aggressive.
24:13He understands the position well.
24:15He can defend one-on-one.
24:16He doesn't get done on the back of post
24:17as much as you might think he would,
24:19but with his height,
24:20all the things you look for in a fullback,
24:21he's got it.
24:22So, you know, fantastic start to his career.
24:24All right, best signing.
24:25And there's been a little bit of disagreement on this.
24:27We asked the guys to take into account
24:29value as well on their spend.
24:31So, Jamie, you went with Dean Howson,
24:33who's already been snapped up
24:34and he's on his way to Real Madrid.
24:37ÂŁ50 million from Juventus,
24:38on the way to Real Madrid for ÂŁ50 million.
24:39That was the release club.
24:40Yeah, I mean, to be honest,
24:42Milenkovic and him,
24:43and I think when we come to the next one,
24:45I've almost got...
24:46I've gone the other way around,
24:47but the reason I went for him on that one
24:49is because almost what he's done
24:51in terms of signing for Bournemouth,
24:52he's signed for ÂŁ15 million
24:54and he's gone for ÂŁ50 million within a season,
24:57you know, and watching him play this season,
24:59wow, I mean, play off both feet.
25:02He's already obviously played for Spain now as well.
25:04He's so cool and calm.
25:05What's interesting, Jamie,
25:06I think when we talk about centre-backs,
25:07a lot of managers still would be resistant
25:11to young players playing in that position on the pitch,
25:15as he's sort of bucked that trend
25:17and shown that age doesn't matter.
25:19I'm not saying it...
25:20No, I don't think managers are wrong.
25:21I think that just shows how special he is.
25:24You know, the managers aren't wrong
25:25about goalkeepers and centre-backs
25:27playing at a certain age,
25:28whether it's 19, 20, 18.
25:30What is he? Is he 19 now?
25:3119.
25:3119.
25:32But, and for the majority of the season,
25:34I think he was 18,
25:34to play in that position as centre-back,
25:36it's like, wow.
25:37I mean, I played very early at times as centre-back.
25:40It was too much for me.
25:41You know, you make a mistake,
25:42you learn in the game.
25:43But he looks so cool, composed.
25:45Real Madrid is at that age for 50 million.
25:47I mean, you've got to be something pretty special,
25:49and he is.
25:50Milenkovic, ÂŁ12 million, Gary.
25:52Yeah.
25:53Unbelievable signing.
25:54I think, to be honest with you,
25:55I was similar,
25:55but sometimes when you've watched one player
25:58a little bit more than the other,
25:59just purely through games that you get given,
26:02you just think you feel a bit more of a bias
26:03towards them, and Milenkovic,
26:04I think the season that Forrest have had
26:06is dominance in that team.
26:08The way in which they defend is so critical to it.
26:11They defend the box a lot,
26:12so there's a lot of demand.
26:14We saw the stats before the game
26:15about how much defending they have to do.
26:18Did you think some of Forrest's signings
26:20go a little bit under the radar?
26:21They do.
26:21They did with me.
26:24Think about Milenkovic.
26:26The one thing I would say about him is,
26:27I think Forrest suits him down to the ground.
26:29Sometimes when you sort of go and play
26:31for a Liverpool or an Arsenal,
26:32there is a lot more demand upon you.
26:34Because he doesn't have to play high up the pitch.
26:35You don't have to play high up the pitch.
26:36You don't have to be as good on the ball
26:37in terms of demands on the ball,
26:39but also your full backs usually go forward
26:41both at once.
26:42You might get left two on two.
26:43There's an expectation to win every single week,
26:45whereas with Forrest, you're playing in a team
26:47that is quite compact.
26:48It suits him, but he's been a brilliant signing.
26:51So we move on to best newcomer.
26:53Jamie, you said already that you thought
26:56Milenkovic was the guy.
26:57We heard you talking about him earlier.
26:58Is there anything that you would add
26:59to what Gary was saying there?
27:00No, no, I mean, to me,
27:01it was almost the same category in some ways.
27:03I just went the other way round
27:04because of the transfer fee, Bournemouth,
27:06they're going to get.
27:07It could have easily gone the other way,
27:08but, yeah, two centre-backs,
27:10maybe a little bit of a bias
27:11because of my position.
27:12Arnaut Slot, Gary?
27:15Honestly, I think to win the Premier League
27:17in your first season,
27:18I know there's a couple of managers who've done it
27:20in the Premier League,
27:20sort of Mourinho and Ancelotti, I think,
27:23when it's first season, maybe Conte.
27:24But you're talking some of the greatest managers there
27:26that have done that.
27:27Arnaut Slot comes with not the same reputation.
27:29Speaking to Mo Salah on Friday, he said,
27:31he actually corrected himself.
27:32He said not many people had heard of him.
27:34He said he wasn't, and he corrected himself
27:35and said basically what we all thought at the start,
27:38how can this guy take over from Jurgen Klopp?
27:42You know, he didn't look like he had the same level,
27:44anything like the same level of personality,
27:46but he's made up for it and more
27:47in terms of how he's compensated for it
27:49with his composure,
27:50a little bit of stealing terminations,
27:52some big decisions,
27:53how he's handled the three contract situations
27:55throughout the whole season.
27:56It's been a perfect coaching performance.
27:59And for me, yeah, just because purely,
28:00I couldn't think of two different players.
28:02I thought I'll put Arnaut Slot in there
28:03as the best newcomer in the Premier League,
28:05winning the Premier League in his first season.
28:07Most improved player there is agreement again,
28:09Ryan Gravenberg, Jamie Wye.
28:11Yeah, I think probably the biggest surprise this season
28:15is not just him as a player,
28:17because a lot of players we've seen in the past
28:19have, you know, an average first season
28:21and they grow second season,
28:22but he's playing a completely different role.
28:25I mean, I watched him last season,
28:27wasn't quite sure about him.
28:28He looked like an attacking player,
28:30he looked a bit leggy.
28:31You know, okay, he can move the ball a little bit forward.
28:34I'm not quite sure what he is.
28:35He looked like he lacked intensity, really.
28:38And then he's gone into central midfield,
28:39a holding midfield position
28:42that Liverpool have been trying to sign someone in
28:44for about two or three seasons.
28:46They just keep missing out on players that they go for,
28:49for whatever reason.
28:50And it'd be interesting if Liverpool want to do that again
28:53this summer with somebody else,
28:55because I still think they probably need a player in that role.
28:57But I don't see anybody almost taking his role.
29:00I think he's sort of nailed that position now
29:01as that sort of number six in this Liverpool team.
29:04Let's move on to best coach.
29:06And we've heard from you, Jamie, on Arnaud Slot tonight.
29:11But Gary, tell us about Nuno and why he's edged your vote.
29:16Yeah, you could say Slot, 100%.
29:19Because I put him as newcomer,
29:21I thought that Nuno was definitely worthy of the mention.
29:24The fact that, you know,
29:25I can't remember them going down at the start of the season.
29:27I had them close to,
29:29they would have probably been my next team,
29:31you know, in terms of sort of being down there near the bottom.
29:34So for him to have them where they are right now
29:36with a chance of Champions League football
29:37is absolutely sensational.
29:39So yeah, I've gone for him.
29:41But I think the manager of the year will be Arnaud Slot
29:44when it comes to the end of the season awards.
29:45And probably if I was pushed on that, I would say...
29:47He's there, aren't he?
29:48No, I mean, like, you know, what's the main manager's award?
29:51The LMA Awards.
29:51The LMA Awards, yeah.
29:52I think that Slot will win it.
29:54But I think Nuno deserves a special mention.
29:56I'll just talk quickly on Gravenberch.
29:57I can't believe the improvement in him, though.
29:59I mean, I'm not going to put him in the same category
30:01as a young Vieira,
30:02but he has a little bit of a sort of feel about him
30:04in terms of how he plays.
30:05It's an unbelievable way in which he's improved.
30:07Because you said you'd prefer Man Utd's midfield to Liverpool's midfield.
30:10Honestly, I cannot believe when I watch Liverpool's midfield
30:12every single week.
30:13Sobersly-Jones, Gravenberch and McAllister.
30:16McAllister's a good player,
30:16but the other three, I can't believe...
30:17This is taking me back to August.
30:19I cannot believe the levels of performance
30:21that, to be fair, Arnaud Slot's got out of them.
30:23It's absolutely unbelievable.
30:24When we were discussing this earlier,
30:26there was the invention of a new category.
30:28We're satisfied quite with best coach.
30:30We wanted best coaching performance as well
30:32in an individual game.
30:33So I think it was you that was driving this, Gary.
30:37So you wanted to go with Eddie Howe in the Carabao Cup final.
30:42Yeah, I just thought it was an outstanding coaching performance.
30:47Liverpool obviously dominated the ball.
30:50Newcastle had far more shots.
30:51They controlled the game without the ball.
30:53Salah, I don't think, had a shot
30:56or created a chance in the entire game,
30:58which I think is the first time that that's happened this season
31:00or only time it's happened this season.
31:02Yeah, I thought they were outstanding on that day.
31:04On a day that I thought Liverpool would win.
31:06I never thought any other result would happen
31:07other than Liverpool winning.
31:08So for me, that was a great performance on that day.
31:11I mean, when the category came up about three hours ago,
31:14it got me thinking.
31:15But I was thinking about Eddie Howe in that cup final,
31:17not for the reasons Gary's mentioned,
31:19but something he said after the game
31:20I thought was brilliant,
31:21where he said they'd been preparing for that game
31:24as soon as they got to the final
31:26and they played Liverpool a few weeks before
31:28and they almost did the opposite of everything
31:30they were going to do in the game.
31:32Isak never played.
31:32There's probably nothing wrong with him.
31:33Just leave him out.
31:35And I thought, wow, that's, you know,
31:36a manager thinking he's still got important league games,
31:38but from Monday to Friday,
31:40we'll work on the Liverpool game.
31:41The set piece they scored in the game from Danbury,
31:44they said they'd been working on for weeks.
31:45So, yeah, I thought it was really interesting
31:47the way Eddie Howe went about it.
31:48But I went for an aiola.
31:50What was special about Bournemouth winning Newcastle?
31:52Newcastle, I think, were on a run of winning six on the bounce.
31:55It was at St James' Park
31:57and I think it was the one where Bournemouth
31:59had maybe seven or eight players out,
32:00maybe even more, actually.
32:02And they absolutely battered Newcastle.
32:04I think we highlighted on Monday Night Football
32:06the performance of Ryan Christie.
32:07I remember Kirk flying down the left wing,
32:09putting a great ball in as well.
32:11And, you know, to go to there and win 4-1 at that stage,
32:13I think it was a brilliant, as I said,
32:14resultant performance.
32:16Biggest overachievers.
32:17There has been a bit of a theme you might notice here.
32:20Nottingham Forest getting the vote from both of them.
32:22Biggest underachievers.
32:25Drumroll, please.
32:27Manchester United.
32:30Well, I suppose winning a trophy might slant things,
32:34could it, on Wednesday?
32:34If this was Thursday morning
32:35and United had just got their hands on the Oprah League?
32:39It's a silver lining around a very dark cloud.
32:43Poetic.
32:43No, it is.
32:44I mean, United winning,
32:46to win a trophy should never be disrespected
32:48and it'll be a brilliant achievement
32:50to win two trophies in two years.
32:55Three trophies in three years.
32:56Yeah.
32:56Three trophies in three years
32:58is an incredible achievement in an era
33:01where United have been really poor
33:02but to be where they are in the league is incredible.
33:06Are you encouraged, Gary, by reports that Mateus Cunha
33:11could be on his way to Manchester United
33:13as soon as the season is over?
33:14I think he's a good player.
33:15And that Liam Delap is strongly considered to be
33:18moving to Old Trafford.
33:20Cunha, yes.
33:20Not confirmed.
33:21To see someone with that sort of level of running ability,
33:24legs, I think it suits Old Trafford.
33:27Delap, I think, has got a level of potential and ability.
33:30My fear is that the expectation of him coming,
33:32the pressure on another young player
33:34to be the lead that line for Manchester United,
33:36we've already seen sort of Xherxey and Hoyle
33:38in this season's struggle.
33:40So I think that one just needs to be
33:42sort of with a little bit of...
33:44Do you think the timing is significant,
33:46the speed with which they look to be doing things?
33:50Well, the season has been over, in essence,
33:52in the Premier League for quite a while,
33:53so there's no reason why they wouldn't have been able to plan.
33:55Ruben Amiri has a specific style of play
33:58and I think it's quite clear he wants
33:59massive upheaval in the squad.
34:01So I think he's just basically,
34:02they've got a lot of business to do
34:03and that's not just bringing players in,
34:04that's getting players out.
34:05So, look, signing players who've got legs,
34:08who can run, who can sort of improve what they've currently...
34:11They need forwards, obviously,
34:12but they need players in every single position
34:14and I think Amiri will want an absolute wipe-out
34:17of the current squad.
34:18So there's a lot of business to do,
34:19so that's why they've had to start early.
34:21I'm guessing we could have put Spurs
34:22in this category as well, Jamie.
34:24Who do you think comes out on top on Wednesday?
34:26I think Man United will win.
34:28Spurs have got injury problems as well,
34:30as they have done all season,
34:31but I just think Manchester United, as Gary says,
34:33have an ability to still win games.
34:35They beat Man City in the FA Cup final last season.
34:37The club have still got that feeling,
34:39supporters going there.
34:40I think the United supporters will go there
34:41expecting to win because of the Man United.
34:43I don't think Spurs supporters will.
34:45Spurs can win.
34:46It has been a season of sort of underdogs
34:48winning cup finals.
34:49We've seen that, obviously, domestically in England,
34:52but I think if Tottenham went in front,
34:55United could still win.
34:58I think if Man United went in front,
35:01I couldn't see where Tottenham would find something
35:03to go and win the game.
35:05I think United will win,
35:06just for the reasons Jamie has said,
35:09that there's some players in there,
35:10like Bruno and Casemiro,
35:12I think that will just feel that occasion,
35:14want it, need it in their lives.
35:17And I agree with the belief.
35:18I know that history is something that gets pointed towards,
35:20but there is sometimes a feeling,
35:22although I had it earlier in the season
35:23when I went to watch the Carabao Cup final,
35:25I thought that Liverpool would absolutely be
35:27lifting that trophy and Van Dijk would be up on that podium,
35:29and they weren't.
35:30So there's got to be a garden against that.
35:32But I do feel confident United on Wednesday
35:34just getting through this game.
35:36We will see.
35:37Goal of the season.
35:37Let's move on to this category.
35:39And we've seen him score tonight.
35:41Jamie Mitoma, this time against Chelsea.
35:44Yeah, I was commentating on the game
35:46and I just couldn't believe the first touch.
35:48You know, that's what it was all about, really.
35:49I mean, to take it out the sky the way he does,
35:52it was fantastic.
35:53And also what comes after it isn't bad also.
35:56But I mean, in terms of first touches,
35:58I mean, this is messy
35:59and you don't feel embarrassed saying that.
36:01You know, even messy would be sort of over the moon
36:04to bring a ball down off the sky like that.
36:07And I think it even looks better from this angle,
36:09but it just comes over his shoulder there.
36:11That lovely touch.
36:11And that second touch as well.
36:12It's a series of good touches, isn't it?
36:14Yeah, and the way he just passes it in
36:16is absolutely sublime.
36:18And he made a huge difference when he come on tonight.
36:19I mean, look at that.
36:20Wow.
36:22Sensation.
36:24Fabulous.
36:25I mean, look at that.
36:26I mean, these little touches here are lovely.
36:28Great touch.
36:30And he just passes it in, doesn't he?
36:34Keeper.
36:36Let's have another look from another angle.
36:39But the shape of his foot when he plucks it out of the sky.
36:42It's just so controlled, isn't it?
36:44You know, it's Zola-like, it's Behrkamp-like.
36:49I was at that game, to be fair.
36:51You're watching this game live on Monday Night Football.
36:53No, I was at the Potomac game.
36:55No, we're talking about this one now.
36:55Yeah, I know, but I forgot about the Potomac goal.
36:59No, the Wilson.
37:01I was looking for a goal that was different.
37:03A goal that sometimes you see a lot of great goals.
37:06And we see brilliant goals all the time.
37:07But you see a lot of them sort of year in, year out.
37:09But I was trying to think of something just a little bit unique.
37:14You don't see many goals like this.
37:17And he meant every single part of it.
37:20That little deflection there, just sort of like that little jump.
37:24You don't see many of those.
37:25And he's in midair when he actually makes contact.
37:27And it's a lovely little sort of like soft loop over the keeper's head.
37:30So yeah, I chose that just for its uniqueness.
37:33It was a brilliant game.
37:34A brilliant finish to the game as well.
37:35Brentford were devastated.
37:37It was a joyous night for Fulham.
37:38They went and did it almost the same thing again this weekend as well.
37:42With Harry Wilson being the architect off the bench once again.
37:48Let's hope you can remember more games than you can goals.
37:51So you can't leak up final again.
37:54But Jamie, the special night that it was for Everton, really, this one.
38:01Yeah, I mean, the Merseyside derby means a lot to me.
38:03It was the last one of Goodison.
38:04There was a lot built up about it.
38:06I think the game had been postponed earlier.
38:08And night game as well, which is always, whether it was Arranfield or Goodison.
38:13And it was a night when that equaliser went in that, I mean, that was a blow.
38:18You know, watching that go in.
38:19But it was also, I think it was a great night almost for everybody.
38:23A great game, should I say, for everybody except Liverpool.
38:25But it turned out all right because Liverpool won the league.
38:28It was a great night that Everton didn't lose the last derby a whole.
38:31It was an iconic goal that we remember forever.
38:33The last, as I said, the supporters are on the pitch.
38:36Great scenes for them.
38:38Arsenal probably thought, OK, the title's back on.
38:40It was a bad one for Liverpool.
38:41But it ends up turning all right for Liverpool in terms of the league.
38:44So for me, for the last Merseyside derby at Goodison,
38:47it's almost finishing the draw.
38:49And both teams were level, I think, on games there.
38:51So that's one of the moments.
38:52And that Tarkovsky goal, I think, was one of the standout moments of the season.
38:56You really loved that Carabao Cup final, didn't you?
38:57Yeah.
38:58Didn't you hear him on commentary?
39:00It was a high point.
39:01Take it to the corner.
39:01Take it to the corner.
39:03Newcastle players.
39:04No, do you know something?
39:05It was the surprise.
39:06I think the performance by Newcastle was incredible.
39:08But do you know something?
39:09Most of all, it was the fact that the Newcastle fans
39:12and what it meant to them seeing them at the end of the game,
39:14just up behind me.
39:15It was like the screaming, that sort of the veins popping out of the necks,
39:18the tears, everything that you want to see.
39:20And I'm sure Crystal Palace fans were the same on Saturday.
39:24It's special.
39:25They hadn't won a trophy for, I think, 50 years, 70 years domestically, was it?
39:29So, yeah, it was an incredible day.
39:31You don't normally see shots that much anymore.
39:34They don't seem to come around as much.
39:36And we've seen a couple in the cup finals this season.
39:38Right.
39:38On to the teams of the season.
39:40Who are the best players that deserve their shot to be the chosen 11 for Gary and Jamie?
39:46Well, they've agreed on five of them.
39:49Their specialist subject is, of course, the back four.
39:54We've heard a bit about Van Dijk and Milenkovic.
39:58Let's talk Munoz, who, again, was such a star for Crystal Palace
40:04in the FA Cup final win over Manchester City.
40:09Clearly, you think he's the best right back in the league.
40:12Yeah, I think he's been outstanding.
40:13And it's certainly not recency bias, Dave, as you know,
40:16that I put seven or eight of my team in the group chat
40:20on a Friday before the cup final, and he was one of them.
40:22Am I not on the group?
40:23Because I didn't see it.
40:24No, you...
40:24That's on WhatsApp.
40:25It's WhatsApp.
40:26It doesn't do WhatsApp.
40:29And I've been impressed with him every time I see him play.
40:32I think we highlighted him when you talk about sort of wing...
40:34Because he is a wing back, so he's probably going to get forward
40:37more than maybe the average fullback in the Premier League.
40:40But you're always sort of thinking about Manchester United
40:42with their system and the players they're trying to find in these roles.
40:44He looks absolutely perfect.
40:45So I went for him, and it just helped that he was outstanding in the cup final as well.
40:49Eight million euros from Genk 18 months ago.
40:51When actually we... I don't know if you remember,
40:52but when we did our team of the half year point,
40:56he was in the stats team of the year.
40:58And it wasn't just because of the attacking numbers.
40:59He rated really highly on winning tackles and defensive duels as well.
41:03And his reliability.
41:04He's played nearly all the games.
41:05I think a lot of the talented right backs in the league,
41:07and we know who they are, they've been unreliable.
41:10They haven't played a lot of football.
41:12They've played less games than him.
41:13I think he's played 35, 36 matches.
41:15So, yeah, for me, I just think, you know,
41:17I've gone a little bit different this year.
41:19In the past, I've gone sort of quite sturdily with players,
41:21maybe, that have played for the bigger clubs.
41:23But this year, I've been a bit more eclectic,
41:25and he's one of my choices.
41:27Eclectic, not electric.
41:32He's electric.
41:33Put another 50 pence in the meter.
41:35Let's have a look at the rest.
41:40We all have a journey, Jamie.
41:43I'm still on mine.
41:44So, this is Gary's team with the ones in white,
41:49the ones that are purely Gary's selection.
41:52So, there's, again, a real Nottingham Forest theme
41:55with Celts in goal.
41:58Kyrgios might be on a journey of his own.
42:01In the past, I would have gone for Riot or Alisson,
42:03thinking that they are probably the two best goalkeepers
42:05in the league from a point of view of just talent.
42:08But I just think you've got to respect
42:09what's happened this season at Nottingham Forest.
42:11In the past, I haven't been able to.
42:13I haven't used this criteria the way in which I have.
42:15I've gone for players who have been more dominant
42:17over a two- or three-year period.
42:19But Celts, up until yesterday, had the clean sheet record,
42:26and I just think they've had such a special season.
42:28Kyrgios, well, Liverpool are going to buy him.
42:31Early and official?
42:33I would have thought so.
42:34So, he's 21, right?
42:36Young, very young.
42:37So, how come he's not your player of the year,
42:39if he's the best left back in the league?
42:42To be fair, he's a bit older than Lewis Skelly.
42:44Lewis Skelly's 18, so I just went for him just off that.
42:46But I think he's been over the season,
42:47he's been sensational.
42:49And I wanted to reward a Bournemouth player, to be fair,
42:51for the season that they've had.
42:52Lewis Skelly, I think, definitely could have been in there.
42:55But he's the young player of the year, because he's 18.
42:57What do you like about Tielemans?
43:00I just think he's one of those players that...
43:02Give me Raishan Tielemans,
43:03when you watch them play for Villa and Newcastle.
43:05I really like Villa and Newcastle's teams,
43:07the way in which they play football.
43:09So, there's a lot that I like about...
43:10Is that your sort of idea?
43:12I'm not a perfectionist in football terms,
43:14but I think that Villa and Newcastle...
43:16I like Liverpool as well, in terms of their style.
43:18And that's why I was surprised before the game,
43:20when Arne Slott said that the top six, seven teams
43:23played the same.
43:24I just... I don't quite see that.
43:27Just quickly, what's your idea then,
43:28when you think about Villa and Newcastle?
43:29I don't know, just a bit more probably...
43:31A bit more imperfect in the way in which they see the game.
43:34I know that Villa play out from the back,
43:36and they play out from the back well,
43:37but I just think there's a lot of electricity
43:39in the wide players.
43:40A lot of spontaneity in terms of what they...
43:42I know they are very methodical
43:43in terms of the passing movements,
43:45but I like the way in which...
43:46Gimmareis is a great player for Newcastle.
43:49He's such an influence on them.
43:50Gravenberch has been fantastic for Liverpool.
43:52Yet, Declan Rice could be...
43:55I mean, if you were saying to me now,
43:56who would I want to bring to Manchester United,
43:57I'd say Declan Rice.
43:58Of course I would.
43:59But I just thought this season,
44:01the way in which those teams have played,
44:03those two players deserve to be...
44:05Why did you single out Bruno
44:05from that Newcastle midfield then?
44:07It could be Tenali.
44:08I like both of them.
44:09But I think Gimmareis has just got that touch more
44:11than Tenali.
44:12And I like both of them.
44:14I think they're a brilliant pair in there.
44:16We'll see if...
44:17Jamie has a Newcastle player,
44:18clearly not the same one,
44:19because it's a different name.
44:22And Bumo, as you wide forward...
44:24I just went for Stat.
44:25I think he's the third most involved in goals.
44:28Again, you think of what Brentford do,
44:31they go a little bit unsung.
44:32I know everyone respects Brentford,
44:33but they don't seem to get the mentions,
44:35maybe, of Bournemouth, Forest, Brighton.
44:37Brentford and what they're doing there,
44:39Thomas Frank's doing is unbelievable.
44:41And their front player's Visser as well, fantastic.
44:44And Bumo, they've lit us up over the last few years
44:46when we've been down to watch them.
44:49And they always deliver.
44:50And I think that what he's done this season is special.
44:52I think he's fantastic.
44:54A player that I'd love to have in my team.
44:57You could go for Cooney,
44:58you could go for Morgan Rodgers.
44:59Players like that have had great seasons as well,
45:01but I've just gone for him on numbers.
45:02All right, onto Jamie's team then.
45:04Let's see Jamie's difference makers.
45:08He did go with Lewis Skelly and Alisson in goal.
45:10Tell us why Tenali?
45:12No, Gravenbush.
45:13Tell us why Tenali?
45:14I went for Tenali because Newcastle look like
45:18they're going to finish third in the Premier League this season.
45:20I don't think many people would have predicted that.
45:21They've won a trophy the first time in 70 years.
45:23But they made a really average,
45:25or probably poor start to the season in some ways.
45:27And I don't think their season turned around
45:31until Eddie Howe put him in the holding role.
45:32Now, for a lot of the time he's been there,
45:35he'd be in the attacking midfielder
45:37and Bruno would be in the holding.
45:38I think him going to the sitting midfield role
45:40I think made a huge difference.
45:41Now, I could easily put Gravenbush in there.
45:43I was debating that right throughout the week
45:46when I knew it was the team of the season.
45:49Probably what just swung it was
45:51how dominant Newcastle were in the cup final.
45:54I'm not saying I judged it off one game,
45:55but I wasn't quite sure.
45:56But I just thought how powerful they looked in midfield
45:59on that day and they just ran over Liverpool.
46:01So is McAllister the pick of the Liverpool midfield for you?
46:04McAllister's been Liverpool's best midfield player this season.
46:06You know, Gravenbush got a lot of attention
46:08because he was fantastic at the start of the season
46:09and also because he was new to the role
46:11and it was a bit of a shock and it was a surprise.
46:14But in terms of quality, in terms of Liverpool's midfield,
46:16McAllister's been Liverpool's best midfield player for two years
46:19and the same again this season.
46:21And Declan Rice, I just think he's fantastic.
46:25Everyone will point to there's two reimagined performances,
46:27but even yes, they scored a goal.
46:29I think it's his best season with goals and assists.
46:31I think he's not far off double figures for both.
46:34Now, so he's adding goals to his game,
46:35which was always the criticism.
46:37And he plays every game.
46:38I never really see him have a bad game.
46:41Yeah, I think he's fantastic.
46:42Flexibility to your system, perhaps with Morgan Gibbs-White,
46:44he might slip into a diamond.
46:45That's being kind, isn't it?
46:47No, well, you've got two right wingers than yours.
46:49It's like having two left backs.
46:50Mbwemo plays on the right.
46:52So I don't think there is a...
46:55When you think of the right, you've got Mbwemo,
46:58you've got Salah, you've got Saka,
46:59like three, like, top, maybe someone else I've missed.
47:02I think the league's missing a world-class left winger.
47:06I think when you look at Liverpool with Gakpo and Diaz,
47:08they're both good players.
47:10I wouldn't say they were great or...
47:12They're not Sadio Mane, if you like,
47:14or it's not Eden Hazard.
47:15We haven't really got that.
47:16I don't want Gibbs-White out there, though.
47:17No, but he's playing floating.
47:18He's coming in from that.
47:19You know the way we both put Kunye in at half,
47:22half way stage?
47:23So I'm going for Gibbs-White.
47:24Every time I watch him, he's outstanding.
47:25He can go at pace.
47:26He could play there.
47:27He has played there at times.
47:29And Pep Guardiola likes him.
47:30Pep Guardiola likes him.
47:31So that'll do for me.
47:32Does he?
47:33Well, if you read me the reports...
47:35Allegedly.
47:36Well, you said Keita's going to Liverpool.
47:38Because you told me earlier.
47:41OK, there is an alternative to both of these sides.
47:44I mean, to be honest, I let Dave come in.
47:45I didn't want to start an argument here on your last month,
47:47or your first appearance, I think,
47:48from the first show of the season.
47:50But how can you pick Lewis Skelly, a young player,
47:53there, not Keita?
47:53It's bizarre.
47:54To be honest with you, it's not bizarre at all.
47:56It is very bizarre.
47:56No, because I think he's a genuine young player.
47:59This idea of 21, 22-year-olds.
48:0118-year-old is young.
48:02Yeah, but it's only 21.
48:03I know.
48:04But 21 is young.
48:05But you're getting on to the...
48:07You forgot Lewis Skelly.
48:09How can I forget Lewis Skelly?
48:11I picked him literally five minutes before.
48:12Guys, you've been getting on so well tonight.
48:14No, but Lewis Skelly, to be fair,
48:15is a genuine young player who's broken
48:17for the first time this season.
48:18I just felt it was like, you know...
48:20Is your first pick.
48:22So there is an alternative.
48:23This being Monday Night Football,
48:25there is a stats-heavy team of the season.
48:29We sort of always try and look for the alternatives.
48:32None of our players got in.
48:34That's the idea of this team.
48:35All right.
48:36Sorry.
48:37I was thinking, gee.
48:38We try to find...
48:38He doesn't know what alternative means,
48:39but he knows what electric means.
48:41No, electric.
48:42Sorry.
48:43Electric.
48:43I thought when you...
48:46Oh, my God.
48:47Apologies at home.
48:49When you say stats alternative,
48:50I was imagining that the top stats from Opta
48:53would pick that team, not alternative.
48:55Every single player has got to be different.
48:57So we've come up with the best attacking right back
48:59in the league in Alexander-Arnold.
49:00Van Gekker, who makes more forward runs
49:02than any other centre-back.
49:04Dean Housen, we know about his incredible passing.
49:06And Anthony Robertson's long, busting runs
49:07and his numbers with the six, 10 assists.
49:10Quesado has been good, by the way.
49:11Dean Henderson, the best actually prevented
49:13in the Palace goal.
49:15Wobe's attacking numbers are really strong
49:17for Fulham this season.
49:18Quesado, most possession won
49:22in the Premier League this season.
49:23We know how well Cole Palmer started the team.
49:26He's dropped off a little bit of late,
49:28but it's still more shot involvement than anybody else.
49:31Morgan Rodgers is a receiver.
49:33He receives the ball more than any other player
49:36between the lines.
49:37Chris Wood, we know his XG over-performance
49:40is so strong.
49:42And his shot ratio is...
49:45His goal-to-shot ratio has been record-breaking
49:48at times this season.
49:48Just dropped back a little bit of late.
49:50And Kunja could be an interesting signing
49:52for Manchester United.
49:54Any of those tempt you?
49:57A Quesado, to be fair.
49:58I think he's been very good for Chelsea.
50:03Rodgers has been good.
50:03I mentioned him before.
50:05He did come into my mindset of the side
50:07where I put N'Burmo,
50:08because I think Rodgers had a fantastic season.
50:10But I think N'Burmo's numbers are just so big
50:13at a club like Brentford.
50:14Probably Kunja.
50:15I had him in the first half of the season.
50:16Obviously, he had a ban.
50:17He missed a few games second half of the season.
50:19But you just look where Nottingham Forest are
50:21in the league compared to Wolves.
50:22They're just, you know, more...
50:24Gibbs White was fantastic every time I watched him.
50:26Yeah, so he was that sort of floating player.
50:29An inside left pocket.
50:30So let's finish on our thought on Kunja.
50:32If he is indeed on his way to Manchester United,
50:35what else do they need in that front three?
50:37If the de lappe has been linked as well,
50:39there's even been talk of N'Burmo.
50:40I don't think de lappe should go to Man United.
50:43You don't think he should?
50:43Or do you think Man United should take de lappe?
50:45I just think...
50:48What happens at Hoyland,
50:49sometimes I think when you're going from a team
50:51who have been relegated to...
50:52I know Man United are 16th,
50:53but Man United are one of the biggest clubs in the world.
50:56The eyes and ears.
50:57I just think that's such a big step.
50:59I know people might say it's from there to there
51:00in terms of league position,
51:01but Man United's a monster.
51:03Do you think there's an upgrade on Hoyland?
51:05I do, but I don't think it...
51:08I just think almost that next step of like...
51:13Everton or someone...
51:14You know when you're going to play every week,
51:15you're going to be the main man.
51:16You're going to feel like one of the best players in the team.
51:18He's the best player in the team at Ipswich.
51:19Everything goes through him.
51:21Go to another club where you're that for two years,
51:23then go to that sort of Man United or Everton.
51:25You've got the sort of team,
51:26sort of Champions League,
51:27all going to be trying to compete for that sort of level.
51:30Yeah, look, if he comes,
51:32everyone will get behind him as a young player,
51:34but we've seen that United have been a very tough place
51:37to play over this last few years
51:38for a lot of very experienced players.
51:40So we're right to express caution
51:43in terms of what's happening at United
51:45in terms of you need to be resilient,
51:47you need to be ready,
51:49and I hope that he can go in there
51:50and get off to a good start
51:51and have a great career there
51:54if that's the move that happens.
51:55But we are right to think about the things
51:57that have happened to other players.
51:59You know, Hoyland's come in at 70-odd million,
52:01Xherxes come in at 30-odd million.
52:04What's going to happen to them?
52:05Do they just leave?
52:05We saw Sancho come in,
52:07we've seen Anthony come in,
52:08you know, Rashford's going to leave.
52:13It's interesting,
52:13and there's a good knowledge of Dilap at United
52:15from the people who've come in
52:16at the sort of hierarchical level.
52:17Jason Wilcox.
52:18So Jason Wilcox has worked with him.
52:20He's obviously having a big say on this.
52:23Omar Baradar, obviously, at City as well.
52:25So they've done their...
52:26So they've had a good understanding of his game
52:28and a good understanding of his character,
52:30which is helpful.
52:31But Manchester United is a different animal,
52:33and I think that, you know,
52:34I hope he does well there.
52:36Gary, thank you very much.
52:37Jamie, thank you.
52:38If you like their teams,
52:39do let them know on social media.
52:41If you don't, do let them know on social media.
52:44If you like the alternative team,
52:45do let me know.
52:46And if you didn't like it,
52:47let them know.
52:49We're not done there.
52:52It's a frantic few days to the finish line
52:55here in this domestic football season.
52:58Manchester City, key game for them
53:00against Bournemouth,
53:01who can still force their way
53:02into the picture as well.
53:03That's coming your way,
53:04coverage seven o'clock tomorrow night.
53:09Makes me nervous looking at it.
53:11For a place in the Premier League,
53:12Sheffield United play Sunderland
53:14two o'clock on Saturday.
53:15For a place in the Championship,
53:16Charlton play Leighton Orient
53:1812 o'clock on Sunday.
53:19And on Bank Holiday Monday,
53:21AFC Wimbledon and Walsall
53:22playing off for a place in League One.
53:26Across it all,
53:26the EFL playoff final preview show tomorrow,
53:306.30 on Sky Sports Football.
53:32And not forgetting the Premier League
53:34final day as well.
53:36Coverage will get underway from three o'clock
53:38and our coverage will include...
53:40Me and Jamie over there.
53:42Nottingham Forest, will you?
53:44Nottingham Forest.
53:46And Chelsea.
53:47Not sure I've picked my team yet,
53:49so I'll let you...
53:51I'll let you know.
53:52It was an interesting team
53:53picked by Arno Slott tonight
53:55and they were leading at halftime
53:56at Brighton, but in the end,
53:58it was the Seagulls
53:59who were soaring towards the finish line.
54:01Good night from us.
54:02Thanks for watching.
