00:00It was amazing and we had bears like they had to play music really loud and flashlights because a bear ripped apart the
00:06Like one of the houses. Yeah, and so in order to get them to stay away from the set
00:11They would play music at night to get them away like rave music
00:19To start let's talk about the Ochi. What was it like as actors sort of working with that and dealing with that on set?
00:25It was very interesting because you know, it's a totally different work when you act with something that isn't real
00:32He looked very real. It's true. And he like even on set, you know, his face would move
00:37He moved around quite smoothly. So it didn't really look like it wasn't alive
00:42But still obviously it couldn't react to me
00:44It was a lot of like talking involved about like how we were gonna like create the bond
00:49It was a lot of coordination, you know six puppeteers around the Ochi had to make it move in the right way and be coordinated
00:55And at the same time I had to act and like pretend like they're not there and I'm just talking to the Ochi
01:01So I feel like um, it was also like just a very like concentrated, you know and intense work
01:06But it was a lot of fun, you know, because he couldn't like speak back to me
01:08I could just you know, do whatever
01:10He didn't care
01:11And have you worked with puppets very much before?
01:14Not to the scale of this like this was so detailed and like, you know
01:19We had like these guys off that were controlling the Ochi's face
01:23So it was like could blink and do movements and like that was so incredible because it just looked real
01:28On the first season of stranger things the demogorgon was was practical
01:32So there was a guy in a suit with that so I got to see that a few times and that was really cool as well
01:37But rarely you rarely get to see stuff like this
01:39Is it easier working with like an actual puppet than like a green screen thing or yeah in post?
01:46Yeah, definitely because it's like you have to
01:49Imagine less like you're imagining like you just can react more how you would I feel like
01:55No, totally
01:55But if it's a tennis ball, it's like okay I have to
01:58This is not a tennis ball
01:59It's not all you're thinking about is that it's not a tennis ball
02:01You have to concentrate just less on like what does it look like?
02:05What would it like now do?
02:06How would it react to me?
02:07How would it move?
02:08Yeah, because it actually did react and if I would say something
02:11I don't know funny or sweet he would react with his face the way the guy with the remote control would control his face
02:18Um, so it's just you feel like you're working with an actual creature like as if you would work with a dog I guess
02:26Um, yeah, but with a dog that doesn't like bark
02:29Yeah, a dog that's highly controllable
02:31Yes, exactly
02:32And you guys are filming in Transylvania sort of like up on the side of mountains
02:37What was that like?
02:38It was so cool. It was like we really felt like we were on this expedition adventure
02:43Because we shot in the carpathia mountains, which are like just beautiful
02:47Absolutely beautiful place. That's like very untapped like when it comes to being on film
02:53I think it's been on probably like local
02:55Obviously like romanian like it's probably been in a bunch of romanian films
02:58It's set on the island of carpathia
03:00Which is like based on the carpathia mountains where isaiah's family's from so it was amazing and we had bears
03:06Like they had to play music really loud and flashlights because a bear ripped apart the hat like one of the houses
03:12Yeah
03:12And so in order to get them to stay away from the set they would play music at night to get them away like rave music
03:18And they even had like when we were on this second location I think in the mountains
03:21They even had like electric fences around the houses so the bears wouldn't like go inside
03:26Where we were it was like literally sleeping
03:28Yeah, we were we were in the bush we were in the countryside
03:30Yeah, we were really like in the outback it felt like 80s right like kind of like back in time
03:36Yeah, it really did feel like we were kind of a time machine back to like these old lodges and stuff where
03:41Yeah, I was gonna ask what did you guys do when you weren't filming?
03:44That's a good question
03:45Like did you eat noodle soup?
03:46And ate like I just ate schnitzel for like two months straight
03:51Oh my god, that's so real there was schnitzel and then I think they had some noodle soup
03:55Yeah, and something else. That's all they had and then like hiking walking. Yeah, they just walked animals
04:02And then I had I got this dog from the mountains
04:05Um, she had a car accident and we took her back. She had no cheat story herself. Yeah
04:10It was like this whole like drama the whole production was involved. Did you keep the dog?
04:15I did it's her dog. She's in my place. What this is this she's like underselling it in a big way
04:20Like the dog was hit by a car. She found the dog on the side of the road and put the dog over her shoulder
04:28And walked it back all the way back. This is like a big dog too
04:32And she was 13 at the time 12 13 and she walked it all the way back to the lodge
04:36We were staying at it was jetted to
04:39Surgery and in this in the nearby town and that's her dog now. Yeah, her name is kiwi
04:45I remember I was calling the production and I was like I need someone to take this dog to a clinic
04:52And so they got the driver who was supposed to drive Willem from the ear pod to this lodge sort of thing
04:58To get the dog and like he needed to wait longer and I was like I imagine I just love the idea of Willem like waiting
05:04That's what I'm saying
05:06That's what you know, just like where's the driver?
05:09Oh, it's with Helena's new dog, you know, he's gonna come later
05:12What was it like working with Willem because he's like so like on at 11 totally is I mean
05:18He's amazing. He's like an icon. So he it's like very intimidating. I feel like I was intimidated
05:24But he's so nice and like he he really is someone that like has been acting obviously for years and isn't in so many projects
05:31But he isn't like jaded at all. He loves acting so much still
05:36It's like really all he care like he just cares about serving the story in the way that he wants to totally
05:42I mean such a goofy guy
05:42He's very funny and you could like talk about like everything and nothing with him
05:47You know, like in an hour you could talk about the most poetic things and most you know world moving things
05:53That are there at the moment, but also just say nothing in an hour and just talk about goofy stuff
05:58He makes a lot of jokes, you know, and he's very like very real
06:02I also felt like he was like willing or we all were willing to like really get ugly for the movie, you know
06:07like yeah totally wearing weird stuff being in weird um like
06:12Just moments and the the thing he was wearing what was it called like like his yeah
06:16He's like armor the armor he wears and oh that was like too small like it would like cut his skin
06:21Yeah, it was like super small because he didn't get to do a fitting
06:24So it would be like really like it was like too small on him
06:26So it was like chafe he would chafe yeah
06:28And he would have to do it over and over again, and he was like walking around like this
06:32He was so bummed. He was so bummed. Yeah about that, but great. He was really uh, he was really great
