Clint Stoerner & Ron "The Show" Hughley give their likes and concerns from the Houston Texans' 2025 schedule.
Transcript
00:00The schedule is out, and a lot of times you look at it, all right, you look at the good and the bad.
00:06You look at the positive, the negatives, the things that may give you some concern,
00:12the things where you're like, ooh, this is good.
00:15We lucked out with this one.
00:16We're fortunate with this one.
00:19You can text some of yours in here on the 24610 YouTube and Twitch as well.
00:27I'll kick it out, Clint.
00:28I kind of really look at little things to me, and one thing for me that I love
00:34when I look at the schedule for the Texans, I would personally say, now some may disagree,
00:40but I would personally say the Texans have four games in which I would say
00:49they flatly don't have the quarterback advantage.
00:53Okay.
00:54And I think that's always a good thing.
00:57I think they're a team that is well-coached for the most part.
01:02And they've got the quarterback advantage or at least a push in every game they play except for the four,
01:09and that is Mahomes, Allen, Lamar, and...
01:14Stafford.
01:16And Stafford, yeah.
01:18Those would be the four.
01:19Everybody else, I believe, either they clearly have the advantage or, you know, Herbert, it's a push, you know, to me.
01:26They're in the same space.
01:29And I do.
01:30I think that is a big deal.
01:32When you go into games and when you've got 17 of them and you go into games and you look over, you're like, all right.
01:40Now, it's not everything, but you look over and you understand those guys affect the game more than anybody else,
01:45and your guys better than their guy.
01:49We can see every week in the NFL teams win that way.
01:53So, I do think, for me, that is a real positive looking at the schedule.
01:56And I like the fact that for this team, the Texans or a better weather team, they got one cold game,
02:08and that is December 7th against Kansas City.
02:11That's one of the first things I looked at at the back of the schedule, and I'm looking at it, all right,
02:15home game against the Colts, Dome, December 28th, that could be a tough spot.
02:21Where are you at?
02:21You're in SoFi Stadium in L.A.
02:24You got another home game.
02:27In December, you got three home games or two home games in December back-to-back at NRG,
02:34and then that one cold game December 7th you play against the Chiefs.
02:39Even November 30th is in a dome in Indy.
02:42So, I think that is a real good thing that they ain't rolling to –
02:48they don't got a couple of games in the back end in really cold spots.
02:52Yeah.
02:52No, there's no doubt about that.
02:54I mean, you can get into some real problems schedule-wise if you got Buffalo late at their place,
03:01you got Baltimore late at their place, you got Kansas City late at their place,
03:06Green Bay if they were on the schedule.
03:08I mean, you could get in a real pinch, and the fact that the Texans don't have that,
03:12being an indoor team, that is a plus for sure.
03:16Yeah, they get Baltimore October 5th.
03:19You've been in Seattle.
03:20Seattle, that Seattle one could have been a late game, a late-of-the-year game.
03:24A lot of people don't think about Seattle when it gets to weather, but it can get cold and windy in Seattle.
03:30So, I think they're in real good shape.
03:33And if you are one that is hoping, you know, for I think a dream scenario to potentially be up there trying to fight for,
03:41or by control that, you're loving the end of that, you're end of the year, you're in a good spot.
03:47What are some of the things that you like, the positive you liked seeing the schedule for the Texans?
03:52Oh, there's a lot of positive for me, man.
03:55I mean, it's the no-murderer's row.
03:58I think overall the difficulty is not overwhelming.
04:02It may be after we see some of these teams and find out who they really are,
04:05but right now it doesn't look like the difficulty is overwhelming.
04:10I personally love where the bye's at, given who the Texans are.
04:15You know, last year they started earlier than everybody else and had a late bye,
04:18and we heard D'Amico Ryans talk about how tough that stretch was to get to that bye.
04:23This year, you know, counting training camp, you're looking at, it's week six is your bye,
04:29so, you know, you're looking at eight to nine weeks into the season,
04:32if you count training camp, that you're going to have that bye.
04:34It'll break up just the monotony of football and the grind of football.
04:38It'll break up the overall season, including preseason, a bit,
04:42and so I think there's some good there.
04:46You know, there's, when you, I love, I love the finish that you talked about
04:54the last four games of the season.
04:55I do think the Texans are a team that are going to, are more than likely going to need to play
05:00at least 16 games, like legitimately all-out balls to the wall, maybe even 17 games.
05:06If they didn't live in a poor division, I think it'd be 17.
05:09There's a chance they could have this thing wrapped up by week 18,
05:12to be completely honest with you, but I'm not betting on it.
05:16So the last four games of the season, three of them being at home,
05:20you know, I think that's...
05:21Yeah, not just three of them being at home, but the opponents too.
05:27Yeah, Arizona, Vegas, the L.A. Chargers, and the Indianapolis Colts.
05:30Those are very winnable games.
05:31Very winnable games, yeah.
05:34So yeah, there's a lot to like about the schedule.
05:37I think the schedule guides were definitely in favor of the Texans this year.
05:45Definitely.
05:46You talk about the stretches of games where you got several in a row.
05:49So it was very possible that this season could turn up when you've got four
05:53or five games in a row where you're just like, whew, that could be scary.
05:57Like last year, you had that stretch of home to the Dolphins at Kansas City
06:03and then home to Baltimore.
06:04Ten days.
06:05Yeah, in ten days.
06:06Like you don't really...
06:06And then they had another stretch in there where it was...
06:09Now, obviously, when you get into a season, you don't know what it is,
06:12but they had a stretch last year.
06:14It was like Packers, Lions, Cowboys, like all in a division game, all at once.
06:20And obviously, the Cowboys were a different team.
06:22Yep.
06:23But you just never know how it gets.
06:25What about concerns for you from the schedule?
06:29When you look at the schedule, anything jump out as a concern for you?
06:33Yeah, I don't know if it's as much as a concern as it is just a reality.
06:37I think the first five games of the season, like this team's going to have to have
06:40a hell of a training camp.
06:42I think you're going to have to have a hell of a preseason.
06:46You got the L.A. Rams in L.A.
06:49You got Tampa Bay at home.
06:51You got Baltimore at their place all before the bye.
06:55So there's five weeks, and then you have to bye the first five weeks of your season.
06:58I think you're going to be very, very telling, not just for the division,
07:01because you got two playoff teams from last year and three teams that pose
07:07some real problems in the Rams, the Buccaneers, and the Ravens.
07:13So by the bye week, as fans, we're going to know what we have in the Texans.
07:19So I think that first stretch, while I don't necessarily view it as a concern,
07:23I just think it's going to be tough.
07:24And then that other stretch there in the middle of the schedule
07:27where you got Buffalo on Thursday night, you got Indy on the road,
07:30then you got Kansas City on the road on Monday night.
07:32That's probably the toughest stretch of three.
07:34The best team in the division with arguably the best two teams on your schedule
07:39right there in a row.
07:41Yeah.
07:41If the Colts are a good football team, if they're one of the ones battling with you,
07:50yeah, now that becomes one of those stretches that you're talking about.
07:54Because on the road with Indy, if they figure out their quarterback position
07:59to a point where they're competitive like that, then that becomes a tough one.
08:02Yeah.
08:02The other thing that concerns me a bit with the schedule is you got a bunch of teams
08:08on here that I think could pose some real problems, right?
08:12You don't have a handful of teams that are just like, damn,
08:16we got to slay the dragon.
08:18And then you got a bunch of layups, right?
08:19You got a bunch of teams that I think people are probably categorizing as wins.
08:24The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the San Francisco 49ers, the Denver Broncos, right?
08:29The Arizona Cardinals, the Seattle Seahawks, the Chargers, right?
08:34Those are – I mean, a lot of those are like, oh, those are wins,
08:36either whether based on last year or based on this year.
08:39Like, I mean, every way off team and being a real problem in the playoffs.
08:47Yeah, saying that to themselves.
08:49Yeah.
08:49Yeah.
08:50Yeah.
08:50I mean, so I think that's where it's at, man.
08:53The Texans have a real chance this year with this schedule.
08:56You're either going to fall back and you're going to be in that middle of the pack
08:59and that's kind of where you're going to live with C.J. Stroud
09:02during his rookie contract or you're going to take the next step.
09:05You're going to dominate teams that right now are in the same tier with you
09:09and then you're going to get up there and compete your ass off
09:11against the top dogs.
09:13I think it's going to go one direction or the other.
09:15I don't know that we're going to look up and this thing be one of those
09:18still if, you know, wondering if they're – what tier they're in
09:24at the end of the season.
09:24Yeah.
