Hey man, uh, reports are, and we heard it from, from, uh, John Harris.
00:04
If you missed that earlier, he was on with the set two 40.
00:06
He gave it a full breakdown, um, multiple picks from Derek
00:11
Stingley jr.
00:12
Off of CJ Stroud, one where he went over and apparently went up with
00:17
Nico Collins and was able to get a pick and got himself in good position.
00:21
According to John Harris.
00:22
And then another one, a pick six off CJ Stroud.
00:27
And, uh, it looks like he's looking like what you said the day he
00:31
was drafted, what he needs to be.
00:33
It looks like now you're a Texan man.
00:35
Yeah.
00:35
It looks like Derek Stingley is that he said he got, he said, John,
00:38
I think there's going to be in the team picture of the top three in the league.
00:41
Wow.
00:42
Yeah.
00:43
I mean, look, there's, I mean, Johnny Harris is obviously high on the fell on
00:46
the young fellow, which I don't know anybody that isn't really high on him,
00:49
but best hands on the team.
00:50
Top three corner of the league.
00:51
That's, that's a bold statement given what we've seen.
00:54
Um, now I, I don't think it's a stretch.
00:56
I don't think he's crazy for having those opinions at all.
00:58
I mean, Derek Stingley is, is clearly a guy with an extremely high ceiling.
01:02
He has played very little football, relatively speaking.
01:05
And, and he is, I mean, just, I mean, you want to talk about a trajectory
01:09
of, of, of becoming one of the best he's on it.
01:12
There, there's no doubt there, but you, uh, it's interesting to me,
01:16
Ron, with you look at kind of how this training camp has gone, which we
01:21
discussed a little bit earlier with, with Johnny, it was early on the first,
01:25
let's say the first week, maybe 10 days of camp, uh, not 10 days, first week of
01:29
camp, um, this offense was making a, a statement and, and making it a point to
01:35
be more aggressive and take some shots downfield and it just seemed like, I
01:41
don't think it was by design, but it, but, uh, it just seemed like they had
01:44
no problem if a go route was, was called.
01:47
And Derek Stingley happened to be on that wide receiver and there was no
01:49
deep help and they were going to take that shot on Derek Stingley.
01:53
And, and, and they, they took advantage of him a full, a couple of times,
01:56
got behind him, convincingly got behind him a couple of times.
02:00
And then comes the day when the scuffle happened, right?
02:04
It clearly, he was having a really, really good day that day before the
02:09
scuffle, but then the scuffle happens.
02:11
He clearly doesn't have a problem letting Dalton Schultz and everybody
02:14
else know that whatever went down angle happened on his watch.
02:18
Uh, he continues to have a great day that day.
02:22
And he has continued to show out ever since.
02:26
And, and, and it's all culminated today in practice where you got bad weather,
02:31
but there's, there's, there's three, there's three facets here.
02:37
If you will.
02:38
One, he undercuts tank Dale on a speed cut out route.
02:42
One of the best route runners.
02:44
I I'm, I'm, I am very confident in saying one of the best
02:47
route runners in the league.
02:48
Um, he undercuts tank Dale on an out route to the point where
02:55
he doesn't just get a PBU.
02:57
He picks it and, and would have taken it to the house.
03:00
Had it been live football, if you're running routes for tank Dale, um,
03:04
then, then you, you, you're covering that next level.
03:07
Then he goes up and, and on a 50, 50 ball, it's thrown up to Nico Collins.
03:12
Derek Stingly goes up and he's, he's the, the winner of the 50, 50 ball
03:17
and gets a pick there, which was in the red zone, which would've been a huge
03:20
turnover, and then we get to the point that the quarterback that's throwing
03:24
these interceptions to Derek Stingly statistically was the best quarterback
03:30
in the game last year, throwing for the most yards per game in the fewest
03:33
interceptions, the best in the game as it pertains to major
03:36
production and few interceptions.
03:38
Um, that is a big time, big time statement.
03:41
And one of the interceptions, I believe it was the pick six where he undercut
03:45
tank Dale, uh, word on the street is he threw the ball back
03:48
towards the offensive sideline.
03:50
Um, and, and look, this, this is to me that this is the Derek
03:54
Stingly that, that I'm looking for.
03:57
This is the Derek Stingly that I've been waiting for.
04:00
Um, I was not as, uh, impressed, I guess, which, I mean, I remember a couple
04:08
of years ago, everybody getting super impressed with a ball that was thrown
04:11
directly to him in the end zone by Trevor Lawrence.
04:13
I'm thinking that was just hell.
04:14
I think I may have been able to catch that ball.
04:16
Right.
04:16
I mean, I, I think we wanted him to be good immediately and he was injured
04:21
and then he got in there and you wanted even more that we just kind of, kind
04:24
of blew whatever he did good, bad, or indifferent out of proportion, right?
04:29
Last year, the Amari Cooper follow the Amari Cooper shadow and eliminating
04:34
him from the box score, um, was, was the arrival of Derek Stingly Jr.
04:40
But there's never been a moment, right?
04:43
Where you go into a game and you think the Texans got the best corner in the
04:48
league, one of high ceiling, big time expectations.
04:53
No, quite.
04:53
I've, I've had those.
04:54
I've had those love him.
04:55
Wouldn't trade him, have confidence in him, but best corner in the league.
05:00
We're going to go into games this year, Ron, and whether it's true or not, I
05:04
don't think it's crazy when people say, you know what the Texans may have
05:08
the best corner in the damn league.
05:10
I don't think that that is an out of pocket.
05:14
Oh my God.
05:15
What the hell?
05:15
And he's got a lot of work to do only wrong, but this is the first time where
05:19
I've felt like, okay, let's, let's have a conversation about Derek Stingly and,
05:25
and all the tangibles and, and the high ceiling, as long as he can stay healthy,
05:30
can he be a top corner in this league?
05:32
And I think it's a real conversation based off what we're seeing in training
05:36
and based off what we saw at the end of last season, uh, that, that, that is
05:40
absolutely a fair, fair thought, which leads me to, or they better be right.
05:47
They better be right on that other side.
05:49
Clint, you talking about Lassiter?
05:52
Yep.
05:53
And I, and when I say they, I, I think this is more D'Amico.
05:59
You better, you better be right.
06:00
Because I'll say this, I think Nick and I think D'Amico is heavily involved,
06:04
especially on, uh, on the defensive side of the ball on the personnel.
06:08
But if I look at it, Nick has provided, Hey man, you brought in a second round
06:12
pick, a pick 42 at corner, you brought in Okuda, you brought in CJ, CJ Henderson.
06:17
You've added three legitimate pieces that are talented guys that could
06:23
work on the other side of them.
06:25
And it, and it seems like Lassiter is who they are rolling with.
06:28
And they, they need to be right because we're going to start saying,
06:32
man, I'm not the one over there.
06:34
The hell am I going to throw over there for, right?
06:36
Like I, if you're, if you're the Texans, I got like, you better be right
06:40
about Petrie too, in this nickel thing.
06:42
I got this, like this guy right here.
06:44
I'm not, I'm not, I'm not throwing over there.
06:46
Well, that's, that's the, that may be, look, let's be honest.
06:49
This, this Derrick Stingley thing may be, um, where the, the confidence in
06:56
putting Kamari Lassiter out there from jump, that may be where it's stemming
06:59
from because you, you know, you, you know, with, with Derrick Stingley on the
07:04
field, you can always have your free safety shadow or shade just to Lassiter
07:09
side, you can always give him help over the top.
07:12
Um, you can always have Derrick Stingley jr.
07:17
Shadow, the best receiver to assure that some of these high powered
07:21
offenses don't get Lassiter locked up on a, on a number one receiver.
07:25
Like when it's all said and done, if, if Derrick Stingley is healthy and playing
07:31
as good a ball as he's been playing in camp, if he does, if that translates
07:34
to the damn game day, then D'Amico rides is going to be significantly more
07:39
confident in every decision, whether it be personnel or play calling, he's
07:43
going to be significantly more confident in everything he does held a Derek Stingley.
07:48
I don't want to give him too much damn credit.
07:49
Cause it's only, it's only about a week of camp here.
07:51
Um, but, but hell he, he may be the root of all this confidence and how
07:55
confident that guys are in the interior defensive line, the ability to stop to
07:59
run the, the, the, the, the, the willingness or interest in putting Jalen Petrie at
08:04
nickel and a second round pick, just handing him the starting corner job from
08:08
jump, it may be because Derrick Stingley is a guy that can, can be an eraser.
08:13
It's going to be, it's going to be crucial because they name going
08:16
to give him a pencil to erase.
08:17
They just go, they just go check.
08:19
They're going to check.
08:19
They're going to challenge everybody else is what they go.
08:23
They're going to try to do is challenge five and 14.
08:26
And, uh, and they, they better be right in their belief that those guys can hold
08:31
up in coverage, um, uh, during the season.
08:34
So, Hey, Derek Stingley.
08:36
Yeah.
08:36
He may shut off a half of the field or so to speak potentially, but you know, teams
08:41
are going to get aggressive going the other way.
08:43
Absolutely.
