00:00:26Dengan senyum besar di wajah Anda.
00:00:28Karena ini tidak bisa memulai lebih baik daripada ini, kan?
00:00:31Tidak.
00:00:32Hingga musim panas.
00:00:34Dengan banyak kerja.
00:00:36Dan sekarang kita melihat hasilnya.
00:00:38Dan itu luar biasa.
00:00:40Kami benar-benar kagum dengan semuanya yang terjadi di sini.
00:00:4424 mobil di jendela.
00:00:469 jenis brand.
00:00:47Kita tidak mengharapkan itu pada bulan November terakhir.
00:00:50Sepertinya banyak kerja keras yang kalian lakukan
00:00:53untuk membuat impian ini terjadi.
00:00:55Dan juga Ford akhirnya kembali di DTM.
00:00:57Jadi, ini benar-benar campuran yang indah dan berwarna.
00:01:00Ford, Aston Martin.
00:01:02Sebagai brand baru.
00:01:03Sebagai brand premium.
00:01:04Dengan model Heritage Mustang dari tahun 1964.
00:01:09Saya rasa itu adalah mobil pertama.
00:01:11Dan semuanya telah dilakukan untuk musim yang indah.
00:01:15Tentu.
00:01:16Thomas, kami menanti-nantikan.
00:01:17Jadi, terima kasih banyak.
00:01:18Dan ayo berkendara sebentar lagi.
00:01:20Kami akan berkendara, berbicara dengan Thomas Fuss.
00:01:23Kami akan berbicara dengan pengendara.
00:01:26Karena mulai dari P2, kami memiliki wajah baru.
00:01:29Ini dia, Jordan Pepper.
00:01:32Dia akan masuk ke dalam mobil.
00:01:33Tentu saja dia akan menunggu saya.
00:01:34Karena tentu saja kita harus mengetahui.
00:01:37Mulai dari P2, ini tahun pertama Anda di DTM.
00:01:40Anda memiliki senyuman di wajah Anda.
00:01:41Jadi, saya rasa Anda sangat gembira.
00:01:42Ya, saya gembira.
00:01:43Maksud saya, tempat yang indah.
00:01:45Di daerah depan.
00:01:46Di daerah pertama saya berkendara.
00:01:48Pertama kali berkendara.
00:01:50Tentu saja, semuanya berjalan dengan baik.
00:01:53Maksud saya, ya.
00:01:54Kita hanya perlu melihat sekarang.
00:02:03Jordan.
00:02:04Dan mulai dari posisi pol adalah Luki Awa.
00:02:07Dan dia baru saja selesai dengan wawancara.
00:02:10Jadi, saya akan mengambilnya di sini.
00:02:12Karena, tentu saja, Luki sangat teruja.
00:02:27Ya, saya benar-benar menantikan.
00:02:29Sekarang, ini adalah posisi terbaik untuk dimulai dari.
00:02:31Dan, akan menjadi pertandingan yang menarik.
00:02:33Dan, semoga beruntung untuk pertandingan keempat.
00:02:35Satu pertanyaan segera lagi.
00:02:36Apakah Anda menyukai Ocha's Leben?
00:02:38Ya, saya tidak akan mengatakan bahwa itu favorit saya.
00:02:40Tapi, saya menyukainya.
00:02:41Mari kita lihat, apakah setelah pertandingan ini,
00:02:42semoga akan menjadi favorit Anda.
00:02:43Semoga beruntung, Luki.
00:02:44Dan, sekarang, kita akan melihat Thomas Preining,
00:02:47yang memulai dari P3.
00:02:49Dan, dia juga akan menarik,
00:02:51karena, tentu saja, berada di P3,
00:02:53selalu menarik.
00:02:54Dan, ya, jadi, di sini dia.
00:02:56Halo, Thomas, bagaimana keadaan Anda?
00:02:57Bagus, bagaimana keadaan Anda?
00:02:58Saya sangat baik.
00:02:59Dan, memulai dari P3,
00:03:00saya rasa ini adalah permulaan yang baik
00:03:02untuk pertandingan pertama di musim ini.
00:03:04Ya, tentu saja.
00:03:05Lebih baik dari tahun lalu.
00:03:06Tentu saja.
00:03:07Dan, apakah Anda akan membuatnya?
00:03:08Maksud saya, apakah Ocha's Leben adalah salah satu lagu favorit Anda?
00:03:10Ini sulit,
00:03:11tapi juga menantang.
00:03:13Saya sangat menikmatinya di sini.
00:03:14Saya terbiasa berenang di sini di Formula 4
00:03:16dan di Cup Carrera.
00:03:17Jadi, saya mengetahui lagu ini dengan cukup baik.
00:03:19Dan, ini selalu menyenangkan untuk kembali.
00:03:22Dan, melihat-lihat di sini,
00:03:23maksud saya, matahari terbang,
00:03:24kita memiliki rumah penuh.
00:03:32Dan, banyak aksi berenang.
00:03:34Tidak bisa berharap lebih.
00:03:35Baiklah, semoga beruntung.
00:03:36Dan, semoga kita berjumpa nanti di podium, Thomas.
00:03:38Baiklah, dan, ya,
00:03:39mari kita kembali ke P12,
00:03:42karena di sana kita akan menemukan
00:03:44pemenang hujan, Mirko Bottolotti.
00:03:48Tapi, lihatlah ini.
00:03:49Maksud saya, ini luar biasa.
00:03:50Semua penggemar di mana-mana.
00:03:53Maksud saya, cuaca ini sangat luar biasa.
00:03:55Kita sudah berbicara tentang cuaca sebelumnya.
00:03:56Maksud saya, betapa menariknya itu.
00:03:58Kita telah menunggu selama ini
00:04:00untuk akhirnya,
00:04:01musim ini untuk dimulai.
00:04:02Sudah lama musim panas, jelas.
00:04:04Dan, ya, kami sangat teruja
00:04:06untuk berada di sini dengan semua penggemar ini.
00:04:08Dan, saya sudah menyebutkan sebelumnya,
00:04:09cuaca ini sangat luar biasa.
00:04:11Maksud saya, tidak bisa lebih baik.
00:04:13Dan juga, Ocha's Leben.
00:04:15Saya pikir Mirko Bottolotti
00:04:16yang sebenarnya menyebutkan
00:04:18lagu ini sebagai sangat sulit.
00:04:20Ini semua tentang strategi.
00:04:22Jadi, kita akan menemukan.
00:04:23Mungkin dia akan memberitahu kita
00:04:24sesuatu tentang strateginya.
00:04:25Saya rasa tidak.
00:04:26Mengenali Mirko,
00:04:27dia akan memiliki wajah poker.
00:04:29Tapi, ya,
00:04:30ini akan menjadi sulit bagi dia, jelas.
00:04:32Karena Mirko akan memulai
00:04:34di tengah-tengah lapangan.
00:04:36Tapi, pasti dia akan memiliki
00:04:38ace yang berada di belakangnya.
00:04:40Karena itu yang biasanya dia lakukan.
00:04:41Maksud saya, dia adalah
00:04:42pemenang hujan.
00:04:44Dan, dia berada di sini.
00:04:46Dan, dia masih berada di tengah-tengah lapangan.
00:04:48Seperti yang saya lihat.
00:04:49Jadi, kami berjalan sepanjang jalan ke sini.
00:04:50Kami akan menunggu beberapa menit.
00:04:51Dan, mungkin sekarang sudah waktunya
00:04:53mendengar dari penulis.
00:04:56Bagus, Farina.
00:04:57Itu adalah grid yang panjang, bukan?
00:04:5824 mobil,
00:04:59semuanya siap bergerak.
00:05:00Itu adalah Yugunon.
00:05:01Dia membuat
00:05:02debutan penuh musim ini juga.
00:05:03Dia akan memulai
00:05:04di baris kedua dari grid.
00:05:06Siap untuk round 1
00:05:08DTM 2025.
00:05:10Di sini, di Osho Slaben.
00:05:12Angin sudah naik
00:05:13sejak kami berkualifikasi.
00:05:14Tapi, suhu juga naik.
00:05:16Agak dingin untuk latihan bebas kemarin.
00:05:18Tapi, hampir 18 derajat sekarang.
00:05:20Dan, suhu trak
00:05:21agak panas, 27 derajat.
00:05:23Faktor windchill
00:05:24membuatnya terasa lebih dingin
00:05:25daripada yang sebenarnya.
00:05:26Itu berarti, kami melihat beberapa
00:05:27waktu yang sangat cepat
00:05:28dalam kualifikasi.
00:05:29Dan, kami memiliki rekod lap
00:05:30yang telah dibroken oleh beberapa pemandu.
00:05:32Ben Green,
00:05:33yang mulai dari awal
00:05:34berkualifikasi di posisi pol.
00:05:35Tapi, kemudian,
00:05:36sayangnya,
00:05:37bagi dia dan timnya,
00:05:38Emil Frey Racing
00:05:39tidak berkualifikasi
00:05:40karena beratnya 6,5 kg.
00:05:43Ben, sayangnya,
00:05:44berada di sisi lain dari grid sekarang.
00:05:45Mulai di belakang
00:05:46dari line-up 24 mobil ini.
00:05:48Dan, seperti yang Verena katakan,
00:05:49itu berarti
00:05:50Lucas Sauer
00:05:51berada di posisi pol
00:05:52di Mercedes-Benz.
00:05:54Setelah melakukan
00:05:55empat musim terakhir
00:05:56untuk Winward,
00:05:57dia sekarang berkualifikasi
00:05:58untuk tim Landgraf.
00:05:59Jadi, dia berubah tim,
00:06:00tapi tetap seorang pemandu Mercedes.
00:06:01Dan,
00:06:02itu adalah posisi pol pertama
00:06:03dari Austria
00:06:04sejak akhir tahun 2022.
00:06:06Hockenheim 2022,
00:06:08waktu terakhir
00:06:09Lugi berada di posisi pol.
00:06:10Musim di mana dia berakhir
00:06:11sebagai pemula
00:06:12di pertandingan.
00:06:13Dan,
00:06:14waktu terakhir dia berada di posisi pol,
00:06:15dia menang.
00:06:16Jadi, dia mencari
00:06:17kemenangan pertama
00:06:18untuk beberapa musim
00:06:19juga.
00:06:20Jordan Pepper,
00:06:21namun,
00:06:22bersama,
00:06:23dia cepat
00:06:24sepanjang hujung minggu
00:06:25di Afrika Selatan.
00:06:26Dia membuat debut
00:06:27di DTM
00:06:28di Saxon Ring
00:06:29musim terakhir.
00:06:30Dia berhasil mencapai
00:06:32di Vergrasse,
00:06:33namun,
00:06:34dia juga terlibat
00:06:35dalam kemalangan besar
00:06:36yang tidak mudah
00:06:37melibatkan
00:06:38BMW
00:06:39Marco Wittmann
00:06:40dan Rene Rust.
00:06:41Jadi, itu adalah
00:06:42bagian depan dari grid.
00:06:43Tapi, kita bisa kembali
00:06:44ke grid sekarang
00:06:45dan berhubungan dengan Verena.
00:06:46Dan, disini dia,
00:06:47pemimpin hujan,
00:06:48Mirko Bortolotti.
00:06:49Senang bertemu kembali
00:06:50di sini.
00:06:51Dan, ya,
00:06:52mulai dari P12,
00:06:53di tengah lapangan,
00:06:54ini akan menjadi
00:06:55hal yang sulit.
00:06:56Tapi,
00:06:57Autoslam adalah salah satu
00:06:58lagu favoritmu.
00:06:59Jadi, semoga
00:07:00kita bisa menang.
00:07:01Terima kasih.
00:07:02Terima kasih.

00:17:58karena Luca Serra menarik, saya rasa,
00:18:00dua atau tiga kelebihan dari Jordan Pebrez.
00:18:02Gunung di ketiga, Prining di keempat,
00:18:04Engel di kelima,
00:18:06dan di kelima,
00:18:07Lucas Engseler memulai dengan baik juga,
00:18:09bersama dengan tim lamborgini yang lain,
00:18:11Lamborghini.
00:18:12Jadi, mulai dengan baik bagi dia.
00:18:14Renny Rast looks like he's made a few places up as well.
00:18:16There was a big change to the BOP
00:18:18and the ride height before the weekend
00:18:20on that BMW.
00:18:21They raised the car up,
00:18:22and then they put it back to what it was last year.
00:18:24It's got an Evo kit on the car,
00:18:25but it does struggle a bit around here.
00:18:27It's a big machine, the BMW.
00:18:29The Fords might struggle,
00:18:30and the Aston Martins might struggle
00:18:31around this particular circuit as well.
00:18:33But I'll tell you what, Brian Oliver,
00:18:34the Mercedes is not struggling.
00:18:36Luca Sauer is away.
00:18:371.2 seconds clear after lap one.
00:18:39Yes, that's a heck of a start from Lucky, isn't it?
00:18:42As he leads the way here in that Mercedes.
00:18:45It was a great start from Luca Engseler.
00:18:47He had a wild moment going around turn two,
00:18:49the hotel turn.
00:18:50Picked up a couple of places,
00:18:51so a good start from him.
00:18:53Already mentioned,
00:18:54car 71 was under investigation for a false start.
00:18:57We saw him ducking out of line,
00:18:58marginally before the lights went green,
00:19:00but now we're told there will be no further action.
00:19:03So good news there for Max Powell.
00:19:05The rest of the cars are filing through.
00:19:07Everybody's made it around the tricky first lap.
00:19:09We're in for what will be an exciting,
00:19:11well, still another 52.75 minutes remaining.
00:19:15A pinch-yourself moment for 17-year-old Tom Callender,
00:19:18youngest ever winner of the ADAC GT Masters Championship.
00:19:21Last year, now the youngest ever driver in the DTM.
00:19:24If he can win the title in the next three years,
00:19:26he might beat Pascal Wehrlein's record
00:19:28of becoming the youngest ever champion.
00:19:30But for now,
00:19:31he's staring at the back of a big blue BMW
00:19:33driven by a three-time champion, René Rast.
00:19:35Here is René coming into shot,
00:19:37and there right behind him
00:19:38in the other Landgraaf Mercedes,
00:19:40the pink and red machine,
00:19:41is Tom Callender, just 17 years of age,
00:19:44still at school,
00:19:45racing with these legends out on track.
00:19:48And he's probably lower down the grid
00:19:49than he should be, Brian,
00:19:50because on his hot lap right at the end of the session,
00:19:52he got held up by a couple of cars
00:19:54that were on their way into the pits,
00:19:55into the last corner.
00:19:56Yes, it was a scary moment.
00:19:57He was on his hot lap,
00:19:58and there were two cars waiting for him.
00:20:00Here we go, another look at the start.
00:20:02You'll see in the background,
00:20:03Max Powell jumping out of line.
00:20:05But a great start from Lukas Auer there.
00:20:08You also saw just in the previous shot,
00:20:10Tom Callender picking up the dirt
00:20:11as he was pushing hard to get past René Rast.
00:20:13This was that first corner,
00:20:15the tricky hotel turn.
00:20:16It's quite a technical turn,
00:20:18quite hard to get it right.
00:20:20Great view on board with Jack Aitken.
00:20:22This is what it looked like
00:20:23staring at the back of the yellow Mamba
00:20:25of Jules Gounon.
00:20:26So good to have Jules Gounon in the DTM for 2025.
00:20:29And then that drag race into Turn 1.
00:20:32The best overtaking opportunity on the circuit.
00:20:35Great opportunity to pick up some places
00:20:37or maybe throw it all away.
00:20:39Rest of the circuit,
00:20:40not so many overtaking opportunities.
00:20:42Thomas Priding on board
00:20:43had a look to the outside of Jules Gounon,
00:20:46but then was able to slot back in
00:20:48to that fourth place.
00:20:50So here comes our race leader, Lukas Auer.
00:20:51Big gap to Jordan Pepper.
00:20:53You can see how hard they're pushing at a Turn 10
00:20:56as plumes of dust rise up into the air.
00:20:59Yeah, our 1.6 seconds clear of Pepper
00:21:01for the time being.
00:21:02Calendar quicker than Rast, isn't he?
00:21:04Just shows his nose.
00:21:05And, you know, he can't take these drivers with too much awe.
00:21:10He's got to get his elbows out
00:21:11and show them that he's here to win races
00:21:13and to become a star of the future as well.
00:21:15So he can't show them too much respect.
00:21:17And he certainly looks like he's being held up a little bit now
00:21:19by the BMW, which has lost track
00:21:21with Thierry Remoulin's Ferrari.
00:21:22There's a big gap back between the Ferrari and the BMW
00:21:25as it goes over the line now in 15th place.
00:21:27The top 15 score points.
00:21:28So extra incentive for Calendar
00:21:30to get past the three-time champion, René Rast.
00:21:33And right behind, he's got one of the Mustangs as well.
00:21:36Arjun Main.
00:21:37He shows his nose.
00:21:38The door opens up and Arjun goes through.
00:21:40Lovely move on the way to Turn 2, Hotel Kervits.
00:21:43One of the slower corners.
00:21:44Second gear, 90 kilometers an hour.
00:21:46And Arjun just saw the gap opened up.
00:21:48He did need a second invite.
00:21:49There is the other Mustang, the red and black one,
00:21:51of Fabio Scherer, the Swiss driver.
00:21:53Very good skier in his youth as well.
00:21:55He used to ski at national level as a junior,
00:21:58but went down the motorsport route.
00:22:00But only two places, sorry, one place away now
00:22:04from being in the points is Arjun Main.
00:22:05That would be great, wouldn't it?
00:22:06Ford could get into the points on their return to the DTM.
00:22:10Our lead, then, in the Mercedes.
00:22:11Pepper in the Lamborghini second,
00:22:13Gunon in third, and Jules Gunon,
00:22:15well, if you're not familiar with him,
00:22:17yes, he might be new to DTM in terms of first full season,
00:22:20but he's been an ADAC GT Masters champion.
00:22:22He's won all of the big endurance races.
00:22:24Spa 24 hours, Bathurst 12 hours.
00:22:27He's a great, great racer with loads of GT experience.
00:22:30Here's Arjun Main, a replay of him going side by side
00:22:33with Maurice Schering.
00:22:34This was before he got past Tom Callendar
00:22:36and just muscling his way through.
00:22:38Yeah, he's got a bit of damage there as well
00:22:39on the right rear as Arjun Main.
00:22:41You can see part of the panel hanging loose,
00:22:43but that doesn't worry him, does it?
00:22:44Give Maurice Schering the elbow treatment
00:22:47as he goes past the Aranya car.
00:22:49Now he's on to Tom Callendar as well.
00:22:51There's a replay of that.
00:22:52So, Arjun Main, he's certainly getting to grips
00:22:54with the Mustang.
00:22:56Yeah, absolutely right.
00:22:57But it's a muscle car, so I suppose he's got to muscle his way
00:22:59through, hasn't he, in that big Ford.
00:23:01Great here, the V8 of the Mustang and the big V8,
00:23:04rumbling V8 of the Aston Martin as well.
00:23:07It's 4.8 liters.
00:23:09So, Main is now got ahead of René Rassler.
00:23:11So, Main is into the points here.
00:23:13Great stuff from the Indian driver.
00:23:15He said to us when we spoke to him
00:23:16at the start of the weekend,
00:23:17it wasn't too different to driving the Mercedes.
00:23:20Focus, written all over the eyes
00:23:22of the Austrian, Luca Sauer.
00:23:25You know, it's strange to call somebody
00:23:27who's been in the championship since 2015,
00:23:29all but one year in the championship since 2015,
00:23:31a dark horse.
00:23:32He's a nine-time winner.
00:23:33He's been a runner-up in the championship,
00:23:35but he might just go a bit under the radar
00:23:36at the start of this season.
00:23:37That's a replay of where Arjun Main
00:23:39got past René Rassler.
00:23:40He's picked up two places in less than a lap, hasn't he?
00:23:43Yes, Arjun Main, he's certainly got to get
00:23:45to grips with the Mustang.
00:23:47Yes, Arjun Main, he's certainly,
00:23:49he's moving forward, isn't he?
00:23:50Next up the road for him is Thierry Vermeulen,
00:23:52but the Mustang is certainly looking very strong.
00:23:55It's a replay again, going into that first turn,
00:23:58just finding the gap.
00:23:59René Rassler has been struggling for pace
00:24:01in that BMW all day long,
00:24:03and they're scratching their head a bit on that.
00:24:05It's a circuit that doesn't seem to be favoring
00:24:07the Schuberth Motorsport home race.
00:24:10The other move that happened on that lap
00:24:11was for 10th place, Ben Dürer in the McLaren,
00:24:14getting ahead of Ricciardo Fella in the Audi,
00:24:17and there's a story to be told there about that Audi
00:24:19because Ricciardo Fella was meant to be here
00:24:21as a Porsche driver,
00:24:23but the deal fell through, the team dropped out,
00:24:25and here he is, Brian, in a car that's very familiar
00:24:27to him and to you as well,
00:24:29as we get Arjun Main's team ready.
00:24:31Now we have to close the gap.
00:24:33Don't worry, he is.
00:24:34He's already left them behind, hasn't he?
00:24:36Calendar ahead of Rast as well in the background.
00:24:39So Rast now, a couple of places outside of the points,
00:24:42really struggling, the three-time champion,
00:24:43but Ricciardo Fella has lost a place,
00:24:45but he's still in the points in 11th in the Audi
00:24:49with a new team to DTM behind him, Brian.
00:24:51Yes, the Land Motorsport team,
00:24:53and it was the team that he was with
00:24:56when he won the GT Masters title back in 2021.
00:24:59It was multiplied by Land in those days,
00:25:01and along with Christopher Mies in that Audi R8,
00:25:04he won the championship.
00:25:05Ricciardo Fella's dad was so excited by it all,
00:25:09he kept that car, put it in a museum,
00:25:11he put a lacquer on the bodywork to keep the patina of it,
00:25:14but when the Porsche deal fell through for Ricciardo Fella,
00:25:18they went, okay, chaps, let's open up the museum.
00:25:20They pulled the car out of the museum,
00:25:22stuck some new panels on it, the new Evo kit,
00:25:25and Ricciardo Fella is racing that very same car
00:25:29that he won the 2021 GT Masters title with.
00:25:32It is a collector's piece.
00:25:34Don't bend the car,
00:25:36because it has got a lot of emotional and sentimental value.
00:25:39Oh, he's doing a pretty good job, though.
00:25:41He's in 11th place, well into the points.
00:25:43We'd love to see Ricciardo Fella doing well.
00:25:45Anyone who thought that Audi were out of it after last year,
00:25:48very much mistaken.
00:25:49Ricciardo Fella brings the lone Audi to GTM this year.
00:25:52Yes, Ricciardo was on the podium here last year
00:25:55at the start of the season as an apt driver in that Audi R8.
00:25:59So, great to see the very likable Swiss driver back,
00:26:03third in the championship two years ago.
00:26:06Also worth noting that last year,
00:26:09in the other apt Audi,
00:26:11with what turned out to be a cracked chassis,
00:26:13they didn't know it at the time,
00:26:14but Kelvin van der Linde, you might remember,
00:26:16struggled in the first race of the season.
00:26:18He finished 12th in this race.
00:26:20And who's 12th at the moment?
00:26:22An apt driver, Mirko Bortolotti.
00:26:24So, not the ideal start to the season,
00:26:26but that can take heart from the fact that
00:26:28Kelvin had a bad start to the season,
00:26:30but then went on to be a real championship contender
00:26:32for the rest of the year, didn't he?
00:26:34Only lost out to Mirko Bortolotti
00:26:36on the last day of the season.
00:26:38So, there's a long way to go in this championship.
00:26:40Damage limitation, Bortolotti in the points.
00:26:43He was in the points in every race last year.
00:26:45It's worth also mentioning or reminding you
00:26:47of the fact that Thomas Preining
00:26:49was in the points in every race last year
00:26:51and every race the year before.
00:26:53So, his run now is 32 races consecutively
00:26:57in the points, Thomas Preining.
00:26:58A record in the DTM.
00:27:00This, if he finishes in the points in the top 15,
00:27:03will be the 33rd consecutive.
00:27:06The only other one that's close to him,
00:27:07who went most of last season
00:27:08until the very last weekend of the year,
00:27:10being in the points in every race for the last two years,
00:27:12was Ricciardo Fella.
00:27:14But he did have one non-points finish.
00:27:16So, Preining on his own now.
00:27:18And there he is in fourth place.
00:27:20We've got Pol here.
00:27:21Two years ago, led the race fairly comfortably
00:27:24until a pitstop infringement meant he got a penalty.
00:27:26A drive through the penalty box,
00:27:28which is on the exit to the left-hander
00:27:30at Hasenroda, the third corner of the lap.
00:27:33You have to go through that.
00:27:34There it is to the right of the picture.
00:27:36If you've got a penalty,
00:27:38you have to drive through it at 50 kilometers an hour.
00:27:40It costs you about five seconds.
00:27:41And it cost Thomas Preining a win two years ago
00:27:43around this circuit.
00:27:44He ended up finishing in third place.
00:27:47Lucas Auer will take heart from the fact
00:27:49that for the last four races here,
00:27:52the last two years,
00:27:53the victor has come from pole position
00:27:55three times out of the last four.
00:27:58And on the time he didn't,
00:27:59it was Thomas Preining who only lost the win
00:28:02because of that penalty, really.
00:28:03So he's in a great position.
00:28:05He was pretty pleased, wasn't he,
00:28:06with second on the grid.
00:28:07He's really pleased to be on pole
00:28:08and really pleased to be overtaking.
00:28:09Here is Maurice Schuring
00:28:11catapulting down the inside of the BMW.
00:28:13He needed to do that drive
00:28:15because look how much time they have lost to the pack.
00:28:17René Rast is driving a car
00:28:19which just is not performing around this circuit.
00:28:22Well, there's a reason why Maurice Schuring is sat in that seat.
00:28:25He won the GT category of the Le Mans 24-hour race
00:28:28last year.
00:28:29We've been watching his progress
00:28:30as he's come through Porsche Mobile One Super Cup
00:28:33and Porsche 6 Carrera Cup Germany.
00:28:35And now the three times champion
00:28:37that was ahead of him.
00:28:38He is no respecter of titles,
00:28:40is Maurice Schuring
00:28:41as he goes sailing through.
00:28:43And he's already breaking well clear of the BMW.
00:28:46So Maurice Schuring, a very welcome addition
00:28:49to the ranks of DTM this year.
00:28:51René Rast struggling with that car.
00:28:54Look how much of a gap he's opened up
00:28:56even on the replay.
00:28:57We've seen Niki Tim also pushing through as well.
00:29:01So René Rast really is struggling.
00:29:03Yeah, and he said it might be a tough weekend
00:29:05right at the start of the weekend.
00:29:07He probably didn't think it was going to be this tough.
00:29:09Ben Green passed as well from the very back.
00:29:11From the back of the grid, yeah.
00:29:12So yeah, Ben's made a bit of progress here, hasn't he?
00:29:14So another place gained for the debutants
00:29:17in the number 10.
00:29:18Emil Frey racing Ferrari.
00:29:20He's already pulling clear of the BMW as well.
00:29:22Yeah, the other BMW is doing okay.
00:29:25It's a home race as well for Schubert Motorsports.
00:29:27Three BMWs last year,
00:29:29but no Schalke and Van der Linde back for this year.
00:29:31The 2022 champion not in the DTM this year.
00:29:34So two cars, two BMWs for Schubert.
00:29:36It's their home race, this circuit.
00:29:38And they led the race last year,
00:29:41one of the races here last year,
00:29:43right up until a couple laps to go with Marco Wittmann.
00:29:45We had a fuel issue and there was heartbreak
00:29:47and the car stopped.
00:29:49So there is a possibility to do well here.
00:29:51And Wittmann is going okay.
00:29:53The two-time champion is in eighth place at the moment.
00:29:56The news that I heard from the pit lane
00:29:59and the paddock in between qualifying and the race
00:30:01as we get a replay of René Rast
00:30:03losing an extra place,
00:30:05this time to the Ford Mustang of Fabio Schärer.
00:30:07It's just going backwards, isn't it?
00:30:09The news I heard was that René Rast pretty much matched
00:30:11his teammate in the qualifying in sector one and sector three,
00:30:14but he lost out in the middle sector.
00:30:16That was where he lost all of his time.
00:30:18And they're just trying to figure out
00:30:20exactly what the issue is.
00:30:22But it is really unusual to see René Rast struggling like this.
00:30:26The car not performing, whereas Marco Wittmann
00:30:28seems to be going okay in eighth place currently.
00:30:31Luca Sauer leads the race then.
00:30:33We're fast approaching the pit stop window,
00:30:36aren't we? The middle 20 minutes of this,
00:30:38now 55-minute plus one-lap race.
00:30:40He's got a three-and-a-half second advantage
00:30:42on Jordan Pepper, who in turn is about
00:30:44a second clearer of Jules Gunon.
00:30:46And Jules is about six-tenths up on Thomas Kreining in fourth.
00:30:49Maro Engels not far back in fifth.
00:30:51Luca Engster still rounds out the top six.
00:30:53Jack Aitken, a former winner here,
00:30:55three wins for him last season.
00:30:57Marco Wittmann, Ayongi Nguyen, and Ben Der
00:30:59round out the top ten.
00:31:00Yeah, three-and-a-half seconds across the line.
00:31:03He comes now up to 3.669.
00:31:05So Luca Sauer really taking this race
00:31:08by the scruff of the neck
00:31:10and just dominating at the front at the moment.
00:31:12But it can all change.
00:31:14We've still got 40.75 minutes remaining.
00:31:16Jordan Pepper looking very solid in that second place.
00:31:19Jules Gunon has Thomas Kreining for company.
00:31:21You get the feeling that Thomas isn't done yet.
00:31:24In the background, you just carry him at your peril.
00:31:27Maro Engels loitering there.
00:31:28Luca Engster after that good start
00:31:30in the sixth place ahead of Jack Aitken,
00:31:33a winner here last year, and Marco Wittmann.
00:31:36But overtaking, proving to be tricky here.
00:31:38We knew that was going to be the case.
00:31:40This is why qualifying this morning
00:31:42and indeed tomorrow morning is so very important.
00:31:45But at the moment, we look at that battle
00:31:47for the last of the podium positions.
00:31:49Jules Gunon in the yellow mamba
00:31:52with the champion from two years ago,
00:31:54Thomas Kreining, monstering his every move.
00:31:57Absolutely.
00:31:58Kreining will be hoping that his team, Mantai EMA,
00:32:02can perform the excellent work they did in the pitstops last year
00:32:05because they pulled off some absolutely brilliant pitstops
00:32:08during the course of the year.
00:32:09To win the pitstop challenge from Wynwood,
00:32:12the fastest three pitstops in each race are awarded points.
00:32:15It's incentive for the team to try and win that championship.
00:32:18The fastest pitstops that we saw last year
00:32:20both came at Hockenheim.
00:32:22Actually, one from Schubert
00:32:24and one coming from Wynwood Racing
00:32:28for Sheldon van der Linde and Mauro Engel respectively.
00:32:30Sub six seconds stationary time. Ridiculous.
00:32:335.9 seconds stationary time.
00:32:36Here, as we start to think about the pit window,
00:32:39the whole time it takes to go through the pits
00:32:42in and out, including the stop,
00:32:44the top six times from last year
00:32:46were averaging between 33 and 34 seconds.
00:32:50So, that's the sort of gap you need to have,
00:32:5233 to 34 seconds and a good pitstop
00:32:55to be able to get back out in front of the pack.
00:32:58So, just bear that in mind.
00:32:59And, Brad, quick quotes around about the first sector in a bit,
00:33:03if you like, as we get the wonderful drone shots here
00:33:06of what is becoming, Brian, a closer battle
00:33:08because your gear on is starting to be put under
00:33:10quite a bit of pressure here from Tommy Kreining of the Porsche.
00:33:13Yeah, I was looking into the hotel turn
00:33:15and certainly Thomas Kreining is able to take
00:33:18a much tighter line through the corner.
00:33:20A bit of push in that Mercedes,
00:33:22particularly around turn two,
00:33:24but he's starting to look a little bit vulnerable, isn't he,
00:33:26in that Mercedes.
00:33:27And you feel as though the Porsche is maybe
00:33:30having to think about getting close enough
00:33:32to make a move. He's a little bit far back there
00:33:34around turns 11 and 12.
00:33:36But in a moment, they'll come around 13 and 14
00:33:39along the pit straight.
00:33:40Now, is he going to be close enough
00:33:42to pick up a slipstream and make a move into turn one?
00:33:45I'll wager he's probably just a little bit too far back
00:33:47at the moment.
00:33:48So maybe Jules Gounod just responding a little
00:33:51to Thomas Kreining.
00:33:52While all that's going on,
00:33:54Lukas Auer is opening up about 1 to 2 tenths of a second
00:33:57each lap.
00:33:58His gap now to just a fraction under four seconds
00:34:01at the front.
00:34:02Yeah, Auer, the only driver in the 123s
00:34:05last time around.
00:34:06Only just, but a 123.921.
00:34:09The chasing pack in the low to mid 124s.
00:34:13The race lap record around here set by
00:34:15Ian Junguan in the Mantai Porsche two years ago
00:34:18with a...
00:34:20Sorry, in the Bernhardt Porsche two years ago.
00:34:22122.6 is the race lap record around here.
00:34:26We'll be surprised if that gets beaten at some point
00:34:28once the cars are a bit lighter of fuel
00:34:30and got the tires on,
00:34:32the best performing tires.
00:34:34Remember, the top ten in qualifying
00:34:36have to start the race on the tires
00:34:38in which they qualified.
00:34:39So they have to start on their new tires.
00:34:41The lap in which you set your fastest lap in qualifying.
00:34:44Everybody else gets free choice.
00:34:45So you could start with a more used set of tires,
00:34:47potentially, if you're out of the top ten.
00:34:50All sorts of strategies could come into play tomorrow
00:34:52when we have this extra pit stop.
00:34:53But we'll focus on that for tomorrow's race.
00:34:56Maro Engel's getting a bit closer
00:34:57in the background as well, isn't he?
00:34:59So the last lap for Junguan was a 124.2.
00:35:02The 124.3 for Engel.
00:35:07So the gap was similar.
00:35:09But he just looks a bit closer on this lap.
00:35:11Let's have a look as they come through.
00:35:12Well, that said, Gunawan,
00:35:14he's a bit less under pressure from Pryning than he was
00:35:17coming out of the last corner this time, isn't he?
00:35:19It seems to me it's during the technical part of the circuit,
00:35:22around between turns four and ten
00:35:24is when Pryning manages to get a bit closer.
00:35:27And again, you can see him taking a much tighter line
00:35:29into the hotel turn two.
00:35:31And then it's around here, this is turn three.
00:35:33And towards turn four,
00:35:35where Pryning gets nice and close to him.
00:35:37And then it's at a turn ten where Junguan
00:35:39seems to be able to open up the gap a little bit more
00:35:42and break clear.
00:35:43But you just feel as though Junguan
00:35:45is driving fairly defensively at the moment.
00:35:47Thomas Pryning looking reasonably comfortable
00:35:50in that fourth place.
00:35:52Closes up through this section,
00:35:54now rounding to turn seven at the moment.
00:35:56You can see again that tighter line into the corner
00:35:59around turns eight and nine.
00:36:02And then at a turn ten,
00:36:03as your Gunon's team look on,
00:36:06getting ready because very, very shortly
00:36:09the pit window will open and he'll be coming into that.
00:36:11Now along this kind of back straight at a turn ten
00:36:14is where Gunon has in the past
00:36:16been able to break a little bit clear of the Porsche.
00:36:19So, Lucas Sauer, 4.2 seconds clear in the lead now.
00:36:23Remember last year he won the GT World Challenge title
00:36:26alongside Maro Engel as teammates.
00:36:29They had a fantastic season in GT World Challenge.
00:36:31Maro Engel, since the end of the DTM season,
00:36:33has gone on to win yet another race
00:36:35at the GT World Cup event at Macau as well,
00:36:38around the streets of Macau,
00:36:39where he's an absolute legend.
00:36:41And he's looking good in fifth place.
00:36:42But there you can see a huge gap for the race leader, Lucas Sauer,
00:36:45looking for his first win since the end of the 2022 season.
00:36:49He started the year at Bathurst, Lucas Sauer,
00:36:51in the 12-hour race there.
00:36:53Finished fifth with a fellow called Maxi Goertz alongside him,
00:36:56our former champion racing with him.
00:36:58As into the pits comes Ricciardo Fella
00:37:01right at the very beginning of the pit window.
00:37:04So it should be 33 to 34 seconds,
00:37:07the total time that he'll lose here
00:37:09with the in and the out sticking to the pit lane speed limit.
00:37:13But stationary time, you really want it to be
00:37:15sub-seven seconds to be a good time.
00:37:17The land team are not used to performance pit stops.
00:37:20In the series they normally race in,
00:37:22you have a minimum pit stop time.
00:37:23So let's see how they get on.
00:37:25But he has brought with him a race engineer
00:37:28and a data engineer that came from his time at ABT Motorsport.
00:37:33He's lit the tires up there, that's for sure.
00:37:35That looks actually pretty good to me.
00:37:37The stationary time, 9.6 seconds.
00:37:39It's not world-beating, but it's not terrible either.
00:37:42That's pretty good for a first one in anger, so to speak.
00:37:46So he's got that done and dusted.
00:37:48He doesn't need to make any more compulsory,
00:37:51mandatory stops during this race.
00:37:54That's all done and dusted.
00:37:55Everybody else is still out on track at the moment.
00:37:58So this is where the strategy comes into play.
00:38:00An unusual pit exit here.
00:38:02Deposits the car right on the racing line
00:38:04on turns one and two, the hotel turn.
00:38:07Here comes our race leader.
00:38:08He's going to have Ricciardo Fella right in front of him.
00:38:11I expect he'll dispatch him fairly rapidly.
00:38:13But there's our race leader.
00:38:15You can see the gap between first and second.
00:38:17And then you can see that pipe for third or fourth.
00:38:19Right, here come a few more cars into the pits.
00:38:22The reigning champion, Mirko Portolotti.
00:38:25Also, Thierry Vermeulen just behind him.
00:38:27So all four tires have to be changed.
00:38:29There's no minimum stationary time.
00:38:31In and out as quick as you can.
00:38:33A maximum of two wheel guns.
00:38:35Six team members can carry out the pit stop.
00:38:37One of them has to solely operate the air lance, though.
00:38:40And one of them has to work as the lollipop operator.
00:38:43So four of them working in terms of changing the tires on the cars.
00:38:47We've got Thierry Vermeulen already underway with his pit stop.
00:38:51And here they're having his first pit stop
00:38:53as an amateur driver.
00:38:55He's the reigning champion, number one on the car,
00:38:57Mirko Portolotti.
00:38:58Away he goes and taking an early stop.
00:39:01And he's not the only one, is he?
00:39:03Vermeulen in, and then we've got Timo Glock
00:39:05making his first pit stop of the season as well.
00:39:08The former Formula One driver, 90-odd Grand Prix starts for Timo.
00:39:13Best of fifth in the DTM championship
00:39:15back in the Class 1 era.
00:39:17And great to see Timo, a very popular figure back.
00:39:19His experience will help, hopefully, to develop the team.
00:39:22And certainly he's working so far.
00:39:23Ben Dirk into the top ten.
00:39:25He's got a new McLaren for this year,
00:39:27whereas Timo Glock is racing the car that Clement Schmidt raced last year.
00:39:31He has got an issue with the car, though,
00:39:33which he's had since the test at the start of the season here
00:39:35with a balance issue trying to resolve Timo Glock,
00:39:39which is why he's been further down the grid.
00:39:41No tire warmers allowed.
00:39:43These tires are very, very slippery.
00:39:45And this is Lucas Auer now in amongst those
00:39:47that have made their pit stop, lapping them effectively.
00:39:49Of course, he's still got to make his pit stop.
00:39:51But with no tire warmers, these Pirellis,
00:39:53even this newer compound for 2025,
00:39:55it takes a good three-quarters of a lap,
00:39:58maybe a lap to get the tires up to temperature.
00:40:00Up until that point, it's like dancing on ice.
00:40:02Let's hear it from the race leader.
00:40:07Had to be pretty alert there, didn't he?
00:40:09Because as you said, Brian, that pit lane exit gets right in the way, doesn't it,
00:40:12where they rejoin on that run-through into Turntable Hotel.
00:40:17Yes, and Ricciardo Fella, of course, he's in his own race.
00:40:20He's trying to weave, get heat into the tires
00:40:23and get everything up to temperature.
00:40:25And with the race leader behind him,
00:40:26he doesn't want to lose too much ground
00:40:28while letting the race leader through.
00:40:30But Lucas Auer still very much in control.
00:40:32Four and a half seconds clear of Jordan Pepper.
00:40:35But it would be a bit of a tragedy to trip over a back marker.
00:40:38So just needs to be a little bit cautious there.
00:40:40Jules Gounon still on that third place,
00:40:42still with Thomas Preining for company.
00:40:44Here we come out along the pit stream.
00:40:46Expect Ricciardo Fella to give way to Lucas Auer before too long.
00:40:50Well, not into Turn 1 or around into the hotel turn.
00:40:53In the background, there's Thierry Vermeulen
00:40:55also trying to generate some heat in the tires.
00:40:57Right, Jules Gounon rolls the dice into the pits.
00:41:00Comes the yellow mamba.
00:41:02By a fraction, Ricciardo Fella came into the pits too early.
00:41:06So he's got to come in and pit again.
00:41:08It won't have counted as a mandatory stop.
00:41:10That's just come through from race control.
00:41:13So he was just one or maybe two seconds before time
00:41:18crossed the line into the pits.
00:41:20And they just misjudged that.
00:41:21So Ricciardo Fella, I'm afraid, has got to come in again
00:41:24because it won't count as a mandatory stop.
00:41:26Here then is Jules Gounon for his first stop in this season's DTM.
00:41:32Rears changed first, then fronts dropped off the jacks.
00:41:34Away he goes. Best stop we've had so far.
00:41:377.1 seconds. That's really good.
00:41:41Previously, the best one had been Max Power with 8.6.
00:41:44So there you go. That's a second and a half gain
00:41:46on the best pit stopper.
00:41:48And look at him weaving this way and that
00:41:50just to try and get some heat into those tires.
00:41:53He's going to rejoin with a completely blank track
00:41:55in front of him and behind him
00:41:57because the front runners are on the other side of the lap.
00:42:00It's about half a lap away from him.
00:42:02So that's worked out nicely, hasn't it?
00:42:04Because he's got nobody to hold him up.
00:42:06And that then is our race leader coming into the pits
00:42:08and second and third.
00:42:10Our in, Pepper in, Pryning in.
00:42:12And now it becomes a race between the pit crews, Brian.
00:42:15So keeping to the speed limit,
00:42:17here comes our race leader, Lukas Auer.
00:42:19Meanwhile, out on the track, Jules Gounon will be going hell for leather,
00:42:22trying to do an undercut on Jordan Pepper, no doubt at all.
00:42:26Thomas Pryning staring at the back of the car in front.
00:42:29So in they come. They must not break the speed limit.
00:42:32So they will come. The pit crew will be waiting.
00:42:35Their hearts will be racing.
00:42:37This is where it really, truly does become a team sport.
00:42:40They will be ready to jump into action.
00:42:42The driver needs to stop exactly on the marks.
00:42:44Jordan Pepper stops. Thomas Pryning stops.
00:42:47So the crew get to work.
00:42:49The rear tires first, then the front tires.
00:42:51That is in the rules.
00:42:53They have to do the rears, then the fronts.
00:42:55Thomas Pryning, that's a great stop from Manta EMA.
00:42:58Rejoins out into the traffic just in front of Jordan Pepper.
00:43:02How close was that for Jordan Pepper
00:43:04to steal what could have been the lead from Lukas Auer?
00:43:07Marco Wittmann right in front of him as well,
00:43:09coming in for his pit stop. That was very tight.
00:43:11Jules Gounon for reference, he's just coming into the last corner,
00:43:15but his tires now getting a bit of heat into them.
00:43:18So they'll rejoin. They're a long way clear of him at the moment,
00:43:21but they are going to be really struggling for three-quarters of a lap.
00:43:24You might just see in the background, there it is,
00:43:26the yellow Mercedes of Jules Gounon,
00:43:28the Wynwood car. Wynwood were second in the pit stop challenge last year.
00:43:32Best pit stop of the race so far.
00:43:33And Jules can see that this is his opportunity to catch back up
00:43:37and maybe overtake at least one of these three cars
00:43:40for the net leader of the race.
00:43:41The net leader is still Auer from Pepper from Pryning.
00:43:45This is the driver, though, that's trying to get back into that top three,
00:43:48back into the mix.
00:43:49Pryning, you can see, desperately weaving away in the background
00:43:52in the Porsche, trying to get some heat into those tires
00:43:55as our net leaders nose to tail work their way around the corner ahead.
00:44:00And look at this, Lukas Auer looking back at Jordan Pepper.
00:44:02He senses an opportunity to pounce here.
00:44:05This is for the net leader of the race, Jules Gounon,
00:44:07getting bigger and bigger and bigger in the mirrors of Thomas Pryning
00:44:10as they whip their way through the chicane.
00:44:12About to go through Turn 10 at 130 kilometers an hour.
00:44:15This is the chance for Jules Gounon.
00:44:17This is where he's got to pounce. Pryning knows it.
00:44:20Pryning, you can see, was already covering the inside line.
00:44:22We've got Marengo in the pits.
00:44:24But what's happening at the end of the back straight?
00:44:26Have we got Jules Gounon through or not?
00:44:29And the answer is not!
00:44:30Pryning has kept him at bay for a net third place.
00:44:33Just about. And the longer the lap goes on,
00:44:35the more chance Pryning has of fending off Gounon.
00:44:38But this is going to be another test as he comes out of the last corner.
00:44:41Gounon gets a much better run on the kerbs.
00:44:44Pryning almost has those tires at the temperature.
00:44:47And here Gounon just showing his nose.
00:44:49It's going to be hard to overtake.
00:44:50But he's going to try and commit around the outside.
00:44:53Two brilliant drivers side by side.
00:44:55But Pryning just about fends off the Andorran
00:44:58and holds on to a net third place for now.
00:45:01Wow, what a lap that was.
00:45:04Both by Thomas Pryning and Jules Gounon.
00:45:06Jules Gounon knew this was his chance.
00:45:08He hasn't given up yet though, has he?
00:45:10At the moment, he's lost the position due to the pit sequence.
00:45:13But now, Jules Gounon trying to come back and Thomas Pryning.
00:45:17Yes, Marengo came out just in front of Auer,
00:45:19but he's on cold tires.
00:45:20So Auer gets back into the net lead of the race.
00:45:22Pepper's going to get ahead of him for sure, you would think.
00:45:25But he might end up a net third here.
00:45:27Look how he's dancing around in that Mercedes.
00:45:29Just no grip on the cold tires.
00:45:31Around the outside with his tires up to temperature,
00:45:33goes Pepper for a net second place.
00:45:35But I tell you what, Engel has got a really good chance here
00:45:38of winding up in third place.
00:45:41It all depends on the next half a lap
00:45:43because Pryning and Gounon will be getting closer to him.
00:45:45And I feel if he loses one place, he might lose two here.
00:45:48But he's got a bit of a gap at the end of the back straight.
00:45:51He's still just holding on in that Mercedes.
00:45:53Number 24 for the year this year.
00:45:55A change in number, a change in livery.
00:45:57But the same old wily driver, Marengo.
00:45:59Last year's third place in the championship.
00:46:01Driver is hanging on to a net third.
00:46:04Pryning now knows he's probably got one more clear opportunity
00:46:07and that's going to be into the next corner.
00:46:09But Engel is for now hanging on.
00:46:11He's also got to keep an eye on the mirrors
00:46:13because he's not done with Jules Gounon yet.
00:46:14And more drivers and more cars are about to come out of the pit lane.
00:46:17Look at Gounon!
00:46:18Looks to the inside, the inside line is covered.
00:46:20Pryning driving on the mirrors,
00:46:21goes a bit deep into the corner on the way to turn two.
00:46:24He's really hugging the kerb here
00:46:26and just about fends off the Mercedes.
00:46:28And that really helps out Marengo.
00:46:30And Marengo is the one who's gained the most here.
00:46:32And Jules Gounon has another luck on the way
00:46:34into Hasenroda at turn three.
00:46:36But Pryning's trying to attack and defend at the same time here, Brian.
00:46:39I was expecting to see a windward Mercedes in third place
00:46:42at the end of the pit stop.
00:46:43So I wasn't expecting it to be that one.
00:46:45So Jules Gounon has certainly lost out during the pit sequence.
00:46:48But you can see he has not given up.
00:46:50Jules Gounon does not give up.
00:46:52And here he is, taking that wider line.
00:46:54But that's just lost in places.
00:46:56Now, Thomas Pryning close to Marengo.
00:46:59So can the Porsche do anything about the Mercedes AMG in front of him?
00:47:02Of course, if Thomas Pryning makes a move on Marengo
00:47:05and it doesn't stick, he's just going to let Jules Gounon through
00:47:08as Luca Engstler into the pits for his mandatory stop.
00:47:11Yes, Luca Engstler, Arjomaini, and Tom Callender
00:47:14all in the pits at the moment.
00:47:16Engstler away.
00:47:17The grass racing team, the Austrian team, let their man go.
00:47:20Remember, Luca won his first ever race in the DTM
00:47:23at this event last year.
00:47:24They had the championship at the end of the weekend.
00:47:27Great to see him back in the championship
00:47:29for a third season.
00:47:30Had a horrific accident at the high-speed Mandarin Corner
00:47:33at Macau at the end of the year in qualifying.
00:47:35Talked to Thomas Pryning about that
00:47:37at the start of the weekend.
00:47:38He said, you know what, if he hadn't done it,
00:47:40I probably would have done it on the next lap
00:47:42because we're trying to go flat out through there.
00:47:44He did go flat out.
00:47:45And then, you know, I didn't do it in the end
00:47:47because I saw what happened.
00:47:48He comes right into the thick of the battle, look.
00:47:50But he's on the cold tires.
00:47:52And Gunon had to get off the line a bit there.
00:47:54It cost him a couple of tenths, I think, in the Mercedes.
00:47:57And that's why he's fallen back now a little bit
00:47:59from Thomas Pryning.
00:48:00So the net leader is Luca Sauer.
00:48:02Next second is Jordan Pepper.
00:48:03Then, Maro Engel from fifth on the grid is a net third
00:48:06once everybody makes their pit stops.
00:48:08There is Engel in the blue and gold Mercedes.
00:48:10Then Pryning, a net fourth.
00:48:12And Gunon, a net fifth as it stands.
00:48:14More assuring, though, is your race leader for now,
00:48:17Niki Thiem, is in second place.
00:48:19They have still, though, to make their mandatory pit stop.
00:48:22So, more assuring.
00:48:23Leading the DTM for the very first time in his career.
00:48:27I dare say probably not the last.
00:48:29The team at Mercedes-AMG Landgraf congratulating each other.
00:48:33Good job done.
00:48:35A scary moment for all of them.
00:48:37We've still got six cars yet to pit.
00:48:39Make that five.
00:48:41So the 64 car Fabio Scherrer is into the pits
00:48:45for his stop as well.
00:48:47So five still yet to come in.
00:48:48When they're all done and dusted, all being well,
00:48:51it'll be this car here who will re-inherit the lead.
00:48:54Guess who had the best pit stop so far?
00:48:56Lukas Sauer.
00:48:57That's why they're all cheering down at Landgraf.
00:48:596.3 seconds.
00:49:00A really, really good effort.
00:49:02It was a 6.4 from Schubert as well,
00:49:05who were frontrunners in the pit stop challenge last year.
00:49:08They ended up winning the team championship last year.
00:49:10That helped them to do it.
00:49:11And Marco Wittmann with a really good pit stop as well.
00:49:14Jadi, Morris Turing, Nicky Tim, dan Ben Green
00:49:17adalah ketiga teratas.
00:49:18Renny Rast is fourth.
00:49:19Fabio Scherrer is just coming to the pits from fifth.
00:49:22So the Aston Martin of Nicola Bart
00:49:24is going to move up to sixth place,
00:49:25but it's got to make its, or fifth place rather,
00:49:28but it's got to make its pit stop.
00:49:31We've got Luca Engsler under investigation
00:49:33for the pit stop,
00:49:35and he's got a penalty lap,
00:49:37and that is for speeding in the pit lane.
00:49:39So Luca Engsler, that's such a shame.
00:49:42He's had such a strong race,
00:49:43but broke that speed limit in the pit lane.
00:49:45He is going to have to visit the penalty box.
00:49:48It will cost him about five seconds, won't it,
00:49:50as you run through the 100 meter long box
00:49:52on the exit to turn three at 50 kilometers an hour.
00:49:55And you can only go past the pit wall once
00:49:57before you have to serve it as well,
00:49:59so you've got to do it pretty quickly.
00:50:01Here, then, is this battle for a net third place
00:50:04between Mario Engle and the Mercedes,
00:50:06the Porsche of the 2023 champion Thomas Preuning,
00:50:08and just falling away from it a little bit now
00:50:10is Jules Goudon.
00:50:12Here, though, we're back in pit stop action,
00:50:15and this gives you a sense of just how frantic it can be
00:50:18of the number 92 Maurice Schuring car,
00:50:21Mantai MA, though, brilliant at their pit stops normally.
00:50:23He lights up the tires, away he goes,
00:50:25and he is just coming down the pit lane
00:50:28as the net leaders are still making their way
00:50:32through the back end,
00:50:34sorry, through the first and second turns.
00:50:36So he's going to come out right in the thick of the action
00:50:39somewhere around Mirko Bortolotti, I think,
00:50:42who is battling to try and get a top ten finish.
00:50:44You're on board with Jack Aitken,
00:50:46he's in that sort of mid pack group as well
00:50:48in his Ferrari, the British driver,
00:50:50back for his third race season in DTM.
00:50:53Having won three races last year,
00:50:55but also had a few too many non-point scoring finishes
00:50:58to really be a championship competitor.
00:51:00Through the penalty box he goes.
00:51:02That stings, doesn't it?
00:51:04Past cup, one, two, three, four, five cars.
00:51:07That's how much it cost him.
00:51:09So a mission now for Luke Rengsler,
00:51:11because we know he's quick, we know the car is quick.
00:51:13Let's see what he can do.
00:51:14It will fire him up, that's for sure.
00:51:15But last year we saw a visit to the penalty box,
00:51:18two years ago,
00:51:19Thomas Preininger visited to the penalty box,
00:51:21and he was never able to get the positions back,
00:51:23was he?
00:51:24Never was able to get back into the lead.
00:51:25So if you were watching qualifying,
00:51:28and then you've missed everything in between,
00:51:30you have a look and you go,
00:51:31Ben Green's leading the race from pole position.
00:51:33Nothing much has happened there,
00:51:34but he starts at the back of the field,
00:51:35because he lost his qualifying time.
00:51:37He has, though, still got to make a pit stop.
00:51:39Not many left now to pit,
00:51:40because Nicky Tim has come in.
00:51:41Luck for Abt.
00:51:42Renny Rast is still to come in.
00:51:43He might as well try something different,
00:51:45because the car is not handling well at all.
00:51:47And a bit slowish away, wasn't it,
00:51:50for the Viking?
00:51:52Away he goes.
00:51:53Here we've got the other Abt Lamborghini
00:51:55coming under pressure from ex-Abt employee,
00:51:58Riccardo Phillip.
00:51:59Ah, yes.
00:52:00How things have changed, it's here,
00:52:02Portal Hobby's radio.
00:52:03Just for info, Phillip behind,
00:52:04made a wrong pit stop,
00:52:05so they'd rather get 90 seconds on top,
00:52:07or he has to pit one more time.
00:52:10So, not only is Mirko Bortolotti
00:52:12learning a new team,
00:52:13but the team are learning a new car.
00:52:15Of course, they were running the Audi last year
00:52:17with Riccardo Phillip and Kelvin Vanden Linde,
00:52:19but now Abt Sportsline with the Lamborghini Huracan,
00:52:22and they're learning that as well.
00:52:25Abt is just driving past there,
00:52:27so Bortolotti giving him the position there
00:52:30just seemed relatively straightforward.
00:52:32That, didn't it?
00:52:33But Bortolotti slots back in
00:52:35behind Riccardo Phella.
00:52:37So, Phella in the Audi,
00:52:39moving ahead of his old team there.
00:52:41The sole Audi in the race.
00:52:43A bit wide into the apex of the corner there
00:52:45from Riccardo.
00:52:47Number 29 Audi, though,
00:52:48does make the turn, gets through,
00:52:50and accelerates away nicely.
00:52:52Great vision there of the run through the chicane.
00:52:54This is the back straight.
00:52:56There is Jack Aitken in the foreground,
00:52:58the ex-Formula One racer.
00:53:00He was 2nd quickest in the pre-season test here
00:53:02at Oschersleben at the start of April
00:53:04behind his teammate Thomas Kreining,
00:53:06and was up there right at the top of the times,
00:53:09or near the top of the times
00:53:10in the free practice sessions yesterday as well,
00:53:12but could only qualify in the 4th row of the grid.
00:53:15He is due some better results in this championship
00:53:18because Aitken is a far better driver
00:53:20than his results so far in DTM over the last two years.
00:53:23But given us the Turkish driver,
00:53:25very likable, would be hoping for his best season
00:53:28at DTM so far.
00:53:29There he goes through in the largely green Porsche
00:53:31with Marco Wittmann in the largely green BMW
00:53:34around about half a second behind in their 9th and 10th.
00:53:37So, Ben Green, there he is, your race leader,
00:53:40trying something different.
00:53:42So, if they pull this off
00:53:44and he gets a 33, 34-second pit stop,
00:53:48all told, in and out,
00:53:50that would put him somewhere around Jurgunan
00:53:52and in front of Jack Aitken,
00:53:54but, of course, probably going to lose a few seconds
00:53:57in terms of the pace on the cold tyre.
00:53:59He comes in now, but I tell you what,
00:54:01he's got a really good chance of being in the top 10.
00:54:03He's definitely got a chance of being in the points
00:54:05and in the top 15 from the back of the grid.
00:54:07That would be a pretty good result, wouldn't it?
00:54:09Yes, that would be a heck of a result.
00:54:11He was so chuffed after what he thought
00:54:13was pole position this morning.
00:54:14He's looked dialed in from the moment he got here,
00:54:16Ricciardo Fellatini.
00:54:17I believe that we have a penalty,
00:54:18but we are still discussing it,
00:54:20so we keep driving.
00:54:21For us, it's not clear, so we keep driving.
00:54:24Okay, so they're arguing the point
00:54:26that he came into the pits too early,
00:54:27which is why he hasn't served that penalty yet.
00:54:29Maybe why.
00:54:30Okay, boss, I won't get involved in this fight
00:54:32because he might have to pit again anyway.
00:54:34Right, big moment, this.
00:54:37Big couple of minutes coming up for Ben Green.
00:54:39Oh, slow getting away.
00:54:40A little bit, yeah.
00:54:42Away he goes.
00:54:43A bit like the Niki Tim exit from the pit box that was.
00:54:45So away he goes.
00:54:47The stationary time is 8.1 seconds,
00:54:49which again is not terrible,
00:54:50but it's losing a couple of seconds
00:54:52to the very best pit stops that we've seen in the session.
00:54:55So Ben Green making his way now down the pit lane.
00:54:58The Aikin group has just gone through, actually,
00:55:00so he's going to rejoin somewhere in and around Arjumaini
00:55:04in the next group of cars,
00:55:06but still kind of on the fray of the points.
00:55:09Ben Green is quick because he got pole position,
00:55:11admittedly with a car that was lighter than it should have been,
00:55:13but he's been quick all the way
00:55:14through the practice sessions as well.
00:55:16So Ben Green, former DTM Trophy champion,
00:55:20former frontrunner in Ginetta Super Cup,
00:55:22started his race career in terms of cars
00:55:24as a Ginetta Junior driver in the UK,
00:55:27but he's been racing over here for a number of years now,
00:55:29a couple of seasons in the ADAC GT Masters Championship.
00:55:32He's raced a nose of milfray from last season
00:55:35in GT World Challenge racing as well.
00:55:37A big couple of laps coming up now
00:55:39to get back into that pack
00:55:41and try to get some points out of the race.
00:55:43He's got a good chance of doing.
00:55:44René Rastet is, if I'm not mistaken,
00:55:46the last driver into the pits, isn't he?
00:55:48Yes, Ricciardo Feller has been shown
00:55:50as not being a stopper on your graphic,
00:55:52but that is a point that is very much up for discussion.
00:55:55So it's Lukas Auer who retakes the lead of the race
00:55:59ahead of Jordan Pepper.
00:56:01But the gap is down to just one and a half seconds
00:56:03with all the pitstops done and dusted.
00:56:06Has Jordan Pepper got anything in his pocket
00:56:08that he can bring to the table?
00:56:11Can he get anywhere near the race leader?
00:56:13One and a half seconds between first and second.
00:56:15Mara Engel in that third place,
00:56:17ahead of Thomas Preining, Jules Gunon.
00:56:19Jack Aitken's come out of the pitstop sequence quite well
00:56:21with a sixth place ahead of Ayan Cangguun.
00:56:23Yeah, Jordan Pepper, the South African driver,
00:56:26came over to Europe in 2013, 12 years ago,
00:56:29to race, and that's going to be retirement,
00:56:31I'm afraid, for René Rast.
00:56:33Jordan Pepper came to race in Europe
00:56:35in the VW Scirocco R Cup,
00:56:37which was on the support bill to the DTM back in the day.
00:56:40And he won the championship in 2014,
00:56:42the year after a certain Kelvin van der Linde won it.
00:56:45And they've been friends and have shared apartments
00:56:47in the past as well.
00:56:49So great to see Jordan finally get the chance
00:56:51to now make what has become his mandatory pitstop,
00:56:55his Ricciardo Fella.
00:56:56So they argued the case,
00:56:57but it's difficult to argue against the clock, isn't it?
00:57:00Because there's not much leeway there,
00:57:03and they will have checked.
00:57:04Please can you make sure you check it?
00:57:06But by, I don't think very much,
00:57:08by a tiny amount, he came in just a bit too early,
00:57:10and that's been reaffirmed.
00:57:12So right to get them to check it,
00:57:13but in the end, he's had to serve another pitstop,
00:57:15which is going to drop him right down
00:57:18to pretty much the back of the field.
00:57:20That's Yul Magnus coming through in the Aston Martin there.
00:57:24He's a race leader coming through shot next.
00:57:26So he's going to be potentially lapped here, isn't he?
00:57:28As Lukas Auer crosses the line, goes through turns,
00:57:31one turn, seems about 1.6 seconds clear of Jordan Pepper.
00:57:34His last lap was about half a tenth quicker.
00:57:37So there's not much between them,
00:57:39but quicker than both of them,
00:57:40third place, Barrow Engel.
00:57:42Keep an eye on him.
00:57:43The other thing about Ricciardo Fella's stop,
00:57:44of course, he had to do another tire change
00:57:46because the pitstop has to feature a tire change.
00:57:49So he's probably on tires that are not optimum,
00:57:52not what was planned at the start of the event
00:57:54because they had to change off whatever they put on
00:57:57in the premature stop.
00:57:59So Ricciardo Fella a double disadvantage there
00:58:01as he's stoned last with the one retiree.
00:58:05Ben Green didn't come out of all of that
00:58:07as high up as I thought.
00:58:08I thought he'd be on the fringe of the top 15 at least,
00:58:10but he's back in 19th,
00:58:13and he's got quite a bit of ground to make up,
00:58:15three seconds to make up on Fabio Schera,
00:58:17ten seconds to make up on Tom Callender.
00:58:19So it's still looking like he could do with a safety car
00:58:21to have a chance, really, of getting some points out of this.
00:58:25You can see the land out here of Ricciardo Fella
00:58:28letting the leaders of the leading group through,
00:58:31priming there in the front of your shot,
00:58:33running in fourth place, fifth place, Jorgan,
00:58:35on the gap between the Porsche and the Mercedes
00:58:37is still around about six tenths of a second.
00:58:40So huge frustration there for the team.
00:58:43So we maybe thought they might struggle
00:58:45with the actual pitstop element
00:58:47of the pitstop land motorsport
00:58:49because it's new to them having to get a car in and out
00:58:52as quick as possible.
00:58:53They're used to endurance racing,
00:58:54we have a minimum stop time.
00:58:56But it wasn't the pitstop that was the problem,
00:58:57it was the timing of when he came in for the pitstop
00:58:59that's ended up tripping them up.
00:59:01But I guess you're always going to expect
00:59:03to have a few mishaps and a few learning curves
00:59:05when you're coming into a championship
00:59:07for the first few rounds.
00:59:08Great shot from our drone
00:59:11The cars head around turn three.
00:59:12Hasarud and out towards a turn four.
00:59:15Fairly spaced out at the moment.
00:59:17Still Lukas Hauer with 1.598
00:59:21over Jordan Pepper.
00:59:22So the gap remaining stable,
00:59:24still 12 and a half minutes remaining,
00:59:26plus one lap.
00:59:27Get the feeling maybe this battle is not entirely over though.
00:59:30Thomas Breining in fourth place.
00:59:32Jorgunon is still there.
00:59:34He's certainly not settling for fifth place.
00:59:38And another mention for Arjun Maining
00:59:40in the Ford, in the points.
00:59:42If he can get in the points at the end of the race,
00:59:44he's 14th currently.
00:59:45That'll be the first points for Ford in the DTM
00:59:47for more than 30 years,
00:59:49which would be a fantastic start to the season for them.
00:59:51Right, let's get some news now then
00:59:53with Verena Rieks down in the pit lane.
00:59:55And I'm here with René Rast.
00:59:57How unfortunate the first race of the season here to retire.
01:00:00What was the issue?
01:00:01You seem to be struggling more or less from the beginning.
01:00:04I had an engine alarm or an engine power alarm
01:00:07before the start,
01:00:08which means I had very little power.
01:00:10We tried to save us throughout the pit stop window,
01:00:15but, yeah, nothing happened.
01:00:17So we decided to retire the car in the end
01:00:19because there was nothing to gain for us.
01:00:21All right, thank you very much, René.
01:00:23Very unfortunate. Back to you.
01:00:25Thanks very much, Verena.
01:00:26There you can see the graphic bottom right of the picture.
01:00:29Each lap that is run in a race,
01:00:31combined with all the drivers added up,
01:00:33four euros given by BWT and the ADAC
01:00:36to run the championship to the Race Laps for Worlds in Africa campaign.
01:00:39It's done for a few years now,
01:00:41and they've raised hundreds of thousands of pounds
01:00:44for a charity which tries to give cleaner water
01:00:48to villages in selected African countries.
01:00:51They do a fantastic job.
01:00:52It's great to see BWT also partner with the DTM
01:00:56in trying to be a more sustainable paddock as well
01:00:58with no plastic bottles available for sale
01:01:00in any of the paddocks for the last few years in the DTM
01:01:03and water points around the circuit
01:01:05to help reduce the plastic waste.
01:01:07As we see, one of the drivers so far
01:01:10having a really good run, Arjun Baini,
01:01:1214th place he wouldn't normally be that happy with,
01:01:14but when he got a new car in the championship,
01:01:18and it's only a year and a half or so
01:01:20since the Mustang made its GT3 debut in any series,
01:01:24and when you're in the DTM, you bring in the car in,
01:01:26it's not really a track that suits a big, heavy car like that,
01:01:29Oschersleben.
01:01:30To be in the points, 14th, I think he'd be really happy with that.
01:01:33Yeah, he said when we chatted with him earlier in the week
01:01:36that this is the one circuit that really doesn't suit the Mustang,
01:01:40so he'll be quite happy to get anything out of Oschersleben.
01:01:44So for the debut for the Ford, great to have it here.
01:01:47I have to tell you, you need to hear one of these things in real life.
01:01:50The ground shakes when the Mustang comes roaring past.
01:01:54Last lap for the race leader, Lucas Sauer, 124.0.
01:01:58For Jordan Pepper in second, 123.5.
01:02:01It took half a second out of the Austrian's advantage
01:02:04on the previous lap. There, you can see them.
01:02:06The gap, you can see, has visually come down by a couple of car lengths.
01:02:09There's an Aston Martin coming up to be lapped as well.
01:02:12That's the number eight car of Nicola Barth
01:02:14in the come-to-year racing Aston Martin Vantage.
01:02:18The team, come-to-year racing, brand new to the DTM,
01:02:21very much a private team as well.
01:02:23They've got some support from Aston Martin,
01:02:25but it's not a backed team as such.
01:02:27It's not a factory team, and Nicola gets out of the way.
01:02:30The team started out as a team back in the day,
01:02:33as a Fun Cup team, racing in Fun Cup Endurance Racing
01:02:36with the VW Beetle silhouettes on those cars,
01:02:39which only produced about 130 brake horsepower,
01:02:41then moved up through touring cars into TCR,
01:02:44and then only moved, come-to-year racing, into the GT3s.
01:02:51Then he moved into the GT3s two years ago.
01:02:54First year was with Audi, last year was their first with Aston Martin.
01:02:57They've got five Aston Martins now, still competing in other series as well.
01:03:01But we were able to catch up with Francois Vervisse,
01:03:05the team principal before the race,
01:03:07and he was saying, look, there's no pressure from the top.
01:03:09We know we're here to learn.
01:03:11Of course we want to compete,
01:03:13but we're just trying to get better and better
01:03:15as the season goes on.
01:03:16It's a long-term project.
01:03:17We want to be in the DTM for a few seasons at least,
01:03:20and it's just for us about improving ourselves,
01:03:23getting better, getting more competitive each time.
01:03:25We're not expecting any results in this first season,
01:03:28and again, this is a circuit which won't really suit them.
01:03:32It's always going to be a tough start for them in the Aston.
01:03:35It's great to see the Belgian squad,
01:03:36who've moved factories over the winter period as well,
01:03:39moved to near Brussels in Belgium.
01:03:42They've had a busy period.
01:03:44It's a fast-growing team, very much a family-orientated team.
01:03:47Lots of the people working on the pit crews
01:03:50have worked with the team before in the GT World Challenge.
01:03:54They're the best pit crew in that championship
01:03:56a couple of years ago as well.
01:03:57So we said, we'll be good at our pit stops.
01:03:59Apparently they practice them 5 o'clock on the dot every day.
01:04:02René Rasta, the forlorn figure, walking back.
01:04:05There is another forlorn figure, Torsten Schubert,
01:04:07the team boss at Schubert Motorsport.
01:04:09So probably a late night to try and get René Rasta's car sorted
01:04:13because that engine issue has curtailed him
01:04:16right from the word go.
01:04:17But look at this battle for the lead of the race.
01:04:19It is on, isn't it?
01:04:20Jordan Pepper fancies a win,
01:04:22not just the podium, in what's only his third race in the DTM.
01:04:25Yes, it's not just about grunt in DTM.
01:04:28It's also about looking after the car,
01:04:30looking after the tires.
01:04:32We don't know what kind of tires they put on,
01:04:34what state the tires are in,
01:04:35how used they were after the pit stop.
01:04:37But you get the feeling that Jordan Pepper
01:04:39may have a little bit more grip than Lucas Allen.
01:04:41You just see the back end of the car sliding a little
01:04:44as he headed around the Hacerud at Turn 3.
01:04:47But the game on with just over seven minutes
01:04:50plus one lap remaining,
01:04:52you get the feeling that this is not all over yet
01:04:54because the gap now down to 0.755.
01:04:58So Jordan Pepper has halved the gap to the lead
01:05:02in just a few moments.
01:05:04I think Lucas Allen is going to have his mirrors
01:05:06full of Lamborghini before too long.
01:05:09They're pushing each other on as well
01:05:10because they've now got down to the sorts of times
01:05:12that Mauro Engel was doing a couple of laps ago
01:05:14down to the mid-123s.
01:05:16And Mauro's actually a bit slower on that last lap,
01:05:18so he was catching them through at the time.
01:05:20He's now fallen away by a few tenths on that lap.
01:05:22And look at this, Fabio Scherrer
01:05:24going wheel-to-wheel with the Ferrari of Ben Green.
01:05:27And Ben Green gets the cutback on the way out of the corner.
01:05:29The big Mustang is forced out wide
01:05:31on the exit to Turn 3, and Ben Green is through.
01:05:34He gains a place.
01:05:35So nearly four seconds he had to pull back
01:05:37after that pit stop to get ahead of Scherrer.
01:05:39He's done it, and he's up to 18th place now,
01:05:41but he's got another even bigger gap
01:05:43to try and catch the next driver,
01:05:44which is Tom Callender in 17th place.
01:05:47This is the battle for 14th.
01:05:49Arjumaini in the blue and yellow Ford Mustang.
01:05:52Over 60 years, the Ford Mustang as a car
01:05:54has been a real hit on the roads of the world.
01:05:59Really famous and much-loved brand,
01:06:01and lots of Ford fans here
01:06:03supporting their return to the DTM.
01:06:05And Arjumaini giving them something to cheer at the moment,
01:06:07running around in 14th.
01:06:08Niki Tin, though, is menacing as he always is.
01:06:11The Viking breathing down his neck.
01:06:13This is the rear-facing onboard camera
01:06:15with Arjumaini over the start-finish line,
01:06:17heading up to around about just 240 kilometers an hour.
01:06:21Sticking on the brakes, go left.
01:06:23Bodywork flying left, right, and center.
01:06:25It was a bit of Mustang, I think, wasn't it?
01:06:27He had that bodywork from lap one, lap two, didn't he?
01:06:31Don't worry about that.
01:06:32Do you remember Marco Wittmann at Zandvoort last year?
01:06:35The car was falling apart,
01:06:36and he still managed to win the race.
01:06:38Right, Jordan Pepper, Team Radio.
01:06:40Marco was always three seconds,
01:06:42so push to the front.
01:06:44We can see that.
01:06:45Push it to the front.
01:06:46Having said that, Lukasau has responded,
01:06:48so the gap's up to just a fraction under a second
01:06:52between first and second.
01:06:54Catching is one thing, passing is another.
01:06:56As they say, Jorgunen is still not settled for fifth either.
01:06:59But this is going to go all the way to the end.
01:07:02We're at the last five minutes of the race.
01:07:04Remember, when the clock strikes zero,
01:07:06drivers will complete the lap they're on,
01:07:08then have one more.
01:07:09Arjumaini having a fabulous Saturday afternoon drive.
01:07:12There goes that little bit of the right rear quarter
01:07:14that's been trailing all along.
01:07:16Just behind him, there was Nicky Tim,
01:07:19more assuring just one position away
01:07:21from scoring points on his debut as well.
01:07:23Slightly lighter Ford Mustang now for Arjumaini.
01:07:26Great view into his eyes as well
01:07:28from behind the steering wheel
01:07:29and the other onboard camera.
01:07:31Arjun, the picture of concentration,
01:07:33doing a great job.
01:07:34By the way, if you think you recognize the voice
01:07:36of the race engineer for Jordan Pepper,
01:07:38you probably do if you followed DTM
01:07:39for the last couple of years.
01:07:41It's David Graben-Gieser,
01:07:43who was the SSR performance race engineer
01:07:46last year for Mirco Bortolotti.
01:07:48So he's got Mirco Bortolotti's ex-engineer.
01:07:51He's moved across to Grasenau.
01:07:52It's a real coup for them,
01:07:53and they've been having a fantastic start
01:07:55to the season so far.
01:07:56Luca Engsler, despite his run through the penalty box,
01:07:58he's still doing okay in 10th place, isn't he?
01:08:01Ahead of Ben Duro,
01:08:02he's having a really good run in 11th place,
01:08:04looking to pick up these first points
01:08:06of the season already.
01:08:07Bearing in mind, last year, 20th in qualifying,
01:08:10finished at the back of the field,
01:08:11Ben Duro and the Dura Motorsport team,
01:08:13the McLaren, have made huge strides forward
01:08:15already, it seems.
01:08:16So good to see young Ben Duro running well
01:08:19in 11th place.
01:08:20So it's Awa from Pepper, Engel in 3rd,
01:08:23not really catching them anymore,
01:08:24falling away by a couple of tenths of a second
01:08:26per lap.
01:08:27Priding 4th, Gun on 5th, Aitken 6th,
01:08:29Gun in 7th, Wittmann in 8th,
01:08:31and then Bortolotti from 12th on the grid,
01:08:349th, 10th place for Luca Engsler,
01:08:36and the others in the points are Duro,
01:08:38Awa, Vermeulen, Meini, and Tim.
01:08:41Luca Sauer responding again,
01:08:43now just eking the gap up to a little over
01:08:46one second up front.
01:08:47So he looks to have this under control.
01:08:49We're into just about the last three minutes
01:08:51plus one lap of this race.
01:08:54So time's starting to run out
01:08:55for any place changes.
01:08:56Marco Wittmann in that 8th place,
01:08:58relatively lonely.
01:08:59Mirko Bortolotti,
01:09:00a bit of a queue forming behind him,
01:09:03so clearly not got the pace that he would want
01:09:05in that car.
01:09:06Luca Engsler there, as is Bendor,
01:09:08as previously mentioned,
01:09:09and Max Powell.
01:09:11Behind them, Thierry Vermeulen,
01:09:13having a fairly quiet afternoon himself.
01:09:16Bendor is on course for his best result so far
01:09:18in what's his second season of the DTM.
01:09:2215th at the Lausitzring,
01:09:23at Zandvoort and Nürburgring last year.
01:09:25So three visits to the points last year,
01:09:28but he's never been as high as 11th.
01:09:29We caught up with him before the start of the weekend
01:09:32and again before the race,
01:09:33and he was very happy, very smiling.
01:09:34Actually, really relaxed as well, Bendor.
01:09:36So great to see.
01:09:37Right at the door,
01:09:38the team principal will be well chuffed
01:09:41with the strides forward as well.
01:09:43And he's been there on performance and pace
01:09:46all the way through the weekend, really.
01:09:47He was impressive yesterday
01:09:48in the free practice sessions,
01:09:49and he's carried that through to Saturday.
01:09:51So Bendor doing an excellent job there
01:09:53in 11th place in that McLaren,
01:09:56not far behind Luca Engsler and Niki Thiem,
01:09:58who were both race winners, of course,
01:10:00in the DTM last year.
01:10:02Max Pauwels planning on ruining Bendor's party.
01:10:06Getting close, you just saw how hard he was pushing
01:10:08with the dust that rose up into the air.
01:10:10The blue flag being shown to Ricciardo Fella
01:10:12and to the Aston Martin to let them know
01:10:14that the Aston Martin, to let them know
01:10:16that Aung San Suu Kyi is coming through.
01:10:18But yes, Max Pauwels closing in on Bendor.
01:10:21So he fancies stealing away that 11th place
01:10:23and those valuable points.
01:10:25Yeah, Gilles Magnus in the...
01:10:28What was it, Nicola Barthes?
01:10:29Nicola Barthes must be in the number 8,
01:10:31Aston Martin getting out of the way
01:10:34of Anjou Nguyen.
01:10:35Very nicely, good use of the mirrors there.
01:10:37The blue flag's coming to the marshals.
01:10:38A glance of the mirrors there from Mirko Bortolotti.
01:10:41Damage limitation, it's been all right, though.
01:10:439th place, a bit panicked.
01:10:45They won't panic at that.
01:10:46They can figure out what cost him that top speed
01:10:48in qualifying.
01:10:49He can go again tomorrow.
01:10:51But when you're having a bad day,
01:10:52Mirko Bortolotti is very good
01:10:54at still getting something out of it.
01:10:55And that's what helped him to win
01:10:57the championship last year, Brian.
01:10:58It's consistency, isn't it?
01:11:00It's just always being there,
01:11:01just picking up the points.
01:11:02Ask Thomas Preining about that one.
01:11:04On board with him,
01:11:05you can see the view in his mirror.
01:11:06You can see Luca Exler lined up behind him as well.
01:11:09But we're into the last 45 seconds of timed racing.
01:11:14So, Luca Sauer looking for his first win
01:11:17since the end of 2022.
01:11:19Six tenths of a second clear.
01:11:21Jordan Peper, who's about to get onto the podium
01:11:24in only his third DTM race.
01:11:26And Maro Engel in third place,
01:11:28picking up exactly where he left off last year
01:11:30with a super consistent performance.
01:11:31They struggled the first half of the year
01:11:33with qualifying, didn't they?
01:11:34And there were a couple of storming drives through
01:11:36from lowly grid positions for Maro.
01:11:37But they got much better in qualifying
01:11:39the second half of the year.
01:11:40And in the race, he's always there or thereabouts.
01:11:42So, Maro Engel sort of got under the radar
01:11:45a little bit this weekend.
01:11:46But he will be there in this championship fight,
01:11:49no doubt about it.
01:11:50But he's dropped back from these two now,
01:11:52that's for sure.
01:11:53And Jordan Peper still keeping the pressure.
01:11:55It's worth doing, isn't it?
01:11:56You never know.
01:11:57Try and make sure the driver ahead is on the limit,
01:12:00having to be on the limit.
01:12:01And it might just force them into a mistake.
01:12:03Don't give them an easy run to the flag.
01:12:05The timer's just ticked down,
01:12:08so it runs out on this lap.
01:12:09So that means one and a bit more laps to go in the race
01:12:12as they go down the back straight
01:12:13and into towards the right-left flicker
01:12:15at the turn 11, turn 12 section
01:12:17for the penultimate time in the race.
01:12:19The leaders go through.
01:12:20Engel on his own, still in third place,
01:12:22looking for a podium.
01:12:24And then it's Priding and Goudon next up,
01:12:26fourth and fifth.
01:12:27Still only half a second between them.
01:12:29Yes, Jordan Peper took about 4 tenths
01:12:31out of Lukas Auer on that lap.
01:12:33But out on to the pit straight
01:12:35to start the final lap of the race.
01:12:37Really the only main overtaking opportunity
01:12:39is going to be about now.
01:12:41And I think he's too far back to do anything about it.
01:12:43Heading in towards the left-handed turn 1.
01:12:46Yes, far too far back.
01:12:47But as you say, keeping the pressure on,
01:12:49hoping that Lukas Auer can make a mistake
01:12:52and go wide in the corner.
01:12:54But that's not something Lukas Auer is famous for.
01:12:57So just keeping the pressure on.
01:12:58But Jordan Peper looking like second place
01:13:01is as good as it's going to get.
01:13:03I would just say there is a monstrous crowd here
01:13:06at the Oschersleben Motorsport Arena here.
01:13:08Enjoying the sunshine this afternoon.
01:13:10Enjoying the final lap of the opening race of the season.
01:13:14Enjoying Lukas Auer leading the way from Jordan Peper.
01:13:17This is the 49th race of the DTM Vergasa.
01:13:20And it's about to be there.
01:13:21Another visit to the podium for them.
01:13:23It will be podium number 12.
01:13:25They've got a pretty good record in this championship.
01:13:27They look racier than ever.
01:13:28They've got a really good driver or driver lineup
01:13:31with Jordan Peper and Luca Engstler.
01:13:33It's a great start to the season for Gottfried Grasser's team.
01:13:36They'll be pretty happy.
01:13:37Very happy, I think, with second place.
01:13:39But for Lukas Auer, he's almost there now.
01:13:42Just one sector to go.
01:13:43He's on course for win number 10 in his DTM career.
01:13:48The first one for more than two seasons.
01:13:51He goes around turn 13.
01:13:53He comes into turn 14.
01:13:55Win number 10.
01:13:57The championship lead.
01:13:58Round one goes to Lukas Auer.
01:14:01Well done. Congratulations, Zugi.
01:14:03Race win, pole position, fastest lap.
01:14:06Well done, my friend.
01:14:07Good start to the season. Thank you so much, man.
01:14:10Maximum points.
01:14:12Points, three of them, for pole position.
01:14:14And all of the points for the race victory.
01:14:19There is a very happy Austrian.
01:14:21And hugely likable, Lukas Auer.
01:14:24Great to see him.
01:14:25One of the stalwarts of the DTM.
01:14:27And he was always one of those drivers
01:14:28because he came from the class one era of DTM.
01:14:30But he was one of those drivers.
01:14:31I remember that first season in GT,
01:14:33three cars in 2021 in the DTM.
01:14:36He adapted so quickly to the change.
01:14:39Not everybody could.
01:14:40And he had a brilliant season in 2022.
01:14:43Just missed out on the championship
01:14:45to Sheldon van der Linde.
01:14:47And here he is, 2025 championship leader.
01:14:49He just got to keep it going for another 15 races now, Lukas.
01:14:53Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.
01:14:55Well, a lot of experience on his shoulders already.
01:14:59And certainly putting that to good use.
01:15:02And very, very solid.
01:15:03Celebrations also in the garage of TGI Team Lamborghini by GRT.
01:15:09Very solid performance from Jordan Pepper.
01:15:11I don't think a lot of people had that on their bingo cards
01:15:13coming into the weekend.
01:15:15But suddenly into second in the championship.
01:15:18Mauro Engel always there or thereabouts,
01:15:21picking up a podium.
01:15:22Thomas Priding in that fourth place
01:15:24with Ju Gunon monstering him all the way.
01:15:27And Jack Aitken, the winner this time last year,
01:15:30in sixth place.
01:15:32That's an 11th podium in the DTM
01:15:34for Mauro Engel in third place.
01:15:37And on his 50th start in the DTM,
01:15:39points at least for Mirko Bortolotti there in ninth place.
01:15:43Tomorrow, by the way, will be the 150th race start in the DTM
01:15:47for Mr. T. Glock in the McLaren.
01:15:50So, he'll look for a better day, that's for sure,
01:15:52back in 20th place, I'm afraid.
01:15:53But a good day for the team overall,
01:15:55with Ben Duerr getting his best result,
01:15:56the team's best result so far in the championship
01:15:59at the start of their second season.
01:16:0011th place for him.
01:16:01And well done as well, Arjun Maini.
01:16:03He did drop back behind Niki Tim late on in the race,
01:16:06but he still got into the points.
01:16:0815th place, a championship point for Ford
01:16:10and the Mustang on their return to the DTM
01:16:13for the first time since 1994.
01:16:15And for HRT, running the cars, the Fords,
01:16:18for the first time in the DTM,
01:16:19having been long-term partners with Mercedes,
01:16:22they will be quietly pleased, I think, as well,
01:16:25to get off to a decent start with that 15th place
01:16:28and that championship point already coming their way.
01:16:31Now, Lukas Sauer might not have the greatest stature
01:16:35in terms of height, but I can tell you
01:16:36from first-hand experience, he's incredibly strong.
01:16:38You get a high-five from Lukas Sauer,
01:16:40it nearly takes your arm off.
01:16:42And I bet you that he's going to leap
01:16:45onto the top of that car in a minute
01:16:47and jump for joy.
01:16:48This is going to be quite a moment.
01:16:50It's been more than two years,
01:16:53October 2022, since we saw Lukas Sauer
01:16:56on the top step of a podium in the DTM.
01:16:59You're about to see pure joy, I reckon, from the Austrian.
01:17:02He's always got a smile on his face,
01:17:04but he'll have a beaming grin ear to ear
01:17:07when he gets that helmet off.
01:17:08Jordan Pepper will be, well, pleased as well.
01:17:10Already a podium finisher in the DTM,
01:17:13a marrow angle in third.
01:17:14Here we go.
01:17:15Off to the top he goes.
01:17:17Careful, careful now.
01:17:18There he goes.
01:17:20Big cheer.
01:17:21New color scheme, new team this year,
01:17:24new helmet, same skill.
01:17:27Great to see him back.
01:17:28And he goes, as ever, the sportsman,
01:17:30straight over to congratulate Jordan Pepper
01:17:32on his second-place finish,
01:17:34showing that there's already respect
01:17:36between those two drivers.
01:17:38Jack Aitken, quite a race, really,
01:17:40but sixth place.
01:17:41And again, if you're not having a great day,
01:17:42that was what the team wasn't really able to do
01:17:44last year or the year before,
01:17:46get good points when they weren't challenging for wins.
01:17:48So, OK, he'll be all right with that, Jack Aitken.
01:17:51He wants to win, of course.
01:17:52He wants to win races, get podiums.
01:17:53But he'll be all right with sixth place.
01:17:55If that's a bad day this season,
01:17:57then he's going to have a good 2025.
01:18:00There he is there.
01:18:01A bit calmer than I thought.
01:18:02I think you're going wild, Luca Saab.
01:18:04You're probably a bit tired, to be fair.
01:18:06You don't get much respite around this lap, Brian.
01:18:08It's full on, isn't it, around Oschersleben?
01:18:10It is, because it's a track that bites.
01:18:12There's no run-off areas.
01:18:14You can't afford to make mistakes,
01:18:15otherwise you're into the barrier.
01:18:17So, yeah, high concentration required.
01:18:20There's Jordan Pepper.
01:18:22Looking fairly chilled about the whole situation,
01:18:24isn't he?
01:18:25But that is really good news.
01:18:27We saw him at the Saxon Ring last year
01:18:30making his DTM debut,
01:18:32and now the first full season.
01:18:34There is Mauro Engel.
01:18:36Just got on with the job.
01:18:37Didn't make a fuss.
01:18:38He took advantage during the pit stop sequence,
01:18:41and that's where he made the best move
01:18:43coming home to the last of the podium positions.
01:18:45Confirmation of the results.
01:18:47Lucas Auer wins for Mercedes,
01:18:49the current Manufacturer's Champions,
01:18:51and for Team Landgraf,
01:18:52that's their second win in the DTM.
01:18:53Mauro Engel won for them two years ago.
01:18:55Zanvort, Jordan Pepper, and Mauro Engel on the podium.
01:18:582023 Champion, Thomas Priding, fourth.
01:19:00Ed Azur, Gunon, Jack Aitken in fifth and sixth.
01:19:03Anja Nguyen, Marco Wittmann, Mirko Borslotti,
01:19:06and Luca Engsler in the top ten.
01:19:07And then Ben Dürr, his best result in the DTM,
01:19:09eleventh.
01:19:10Max Powell, twelfth.
01:19:11Thierry Vermeulen, thirteenth.
01:19:13Niki Tim, fourteenth.
01:19:14And Arjumaini, fifteenth,
01:19:15with the other points finishers.
01:19:17But a really disappointing day for René Rast,
01:19:20the only retiree in the race,
01:19:22and with a car that was struggling
01:19:24all the way through down on power.
01:19:27So...

Dianjurkan
