00:05Half of them went one side, half of them went the other.
00:08Now what's that done to the race order?
00:11Your leader is now Adam Keane, where's he come from?
00:15Second place is Sampson, Oglesby in third, Wheatley's down to fourth.
00:20Oh, and that's a big impact, that's Django Jones.
00:24He's gone head-on into the tyre wall,
00:26it's good to see Django's got out and he's okay.
00:29That is a big impact.
00:31Nasty one there for Django Jones, the former Academy star.
00:36Pleased to see that Django is okay.
00:40He was towards the back of course, he started with the penalty.
00:44Race continuing for the moment, I wouldn't be surprised if we perhaps see a safety car
00:48to allow the marshals to recover the remains of Django Jones' car.
00:52That will almost certainly be the end of his weekend.
00:55Ben Wheatley now running with no rear wings at all.
00:58Chasing after our lead, there's Nick Sampson who has got the lead this time through.
01:03How long have we got to go? Eight and a half minutes.
01:06So it's going to all change again.
01:08Well, every time they come round.
01:10Here comes Henry Speaks on the attack, but yes, I think the safety car is being scrambled.
01:14Just as Paul Oglesby makes it three wide with Adam Keane and Nick Sampson.
01:19I can see safety car on the timing screen, but I don't think the yellow flags have yet gone out coming through the chicane.
01:28They may get the notification at the start line.
01:32Let's have a look. Yes, there's the safety car board.
01:34So Paul Oglesby was leading as they came out of the chicane to cross the timing line.
01:39So he will be picked up by the safety car and just taken the lead into the chicane.
01:45Safety car out of course with Django Jones off at the chicane.
01:55But the previous lap through, it was rather a crazy run through the chicane for the leaders.
02:02Let's see if we can piece together what happened.
02:04Well, Paul Oglesby at the back of Ben Wheatley.
02:06Adam Keane then slid wide and had to take the escape route.
02:09I think Monty Hine got clipped by Harvey Ashmore there.
02:13Henry Speaks took the escape road as well.
02:15So that chopped and changed everybody at the front of the field.
02:19That was certainly a rather crazy moment.
02:24And then Django Jones wallops straight in.
02:28I'm not too sure what happened there.
02:30I reckon something broke on the number eight car.
02:32Thankfully the safety systems did their job and Django is okay.
02:40It's getting a bit of treatment there from the medic.
02:45So we take him to the medical centre as a precaution of course for a checkup.
02:48But he was straight out of the car. So no serious injury there.
02:54Well, just over six minutes of this race to go.
03:00And while we have this period behind the safety car, I have a feeling this race will finish behind safety car.
03:06But we'll bring you an update when we can. But we did manage to catch up with a few of the drivers before the race got underway.
03:12So while we're under safety car, let's hear what they had to say.
03:14Right, so I've got Megan here who's back with us in the championship.
03:20Is it just a one-off round this one?
03:21Just a one-off, yeah.
03:22It's great to have you back. And obviously you're quite busy doing GB4 aren't you at the moment?
03:24Yeah.
03:25How's that good?
03:26Yeah.
03:27Yeah.
03:28Yeah.
03:29Yeah.
03:30Yeah.
03:31Yeah.
03:32Yeah.
03:33Yeah.
03:34Yeah.
03:35Yeah.
03:36Yeah.
03:37Yeah.
03:38Yeah.
03:39Yeah.
03:40Yeah.
03:41Yeah.
03:42Yeah.
03:43Yeah.
03:44Yeah.
03:45Yeah.
03:46It's great to have you back and obviously you're quite busy doing GB4 aren't you at the moment?
03:49Yeah.
03:50Yeah.
03:51How's that going?
03:52Yeah, it's really good. The new car's really different and the championship's really big
03:55so it's a strong grid. Yeah, it's good.
03:58Brilliant.
03:59And how's it going, how does it feel being back in the 270?
04:02A bit different but it's not too different. I mean, I'm used to it anyway and it's still fun.
04:08Yeah.
04:09Well, you've qualified well so, and it's hard here isn't it at Thruxton with the toe?
04:12Yeah, the toe was very difficult at qualifying. I set my first lap on that once and then I
04:18just didn't really get a toe again so hopefully we'll make up some positions in the race instead.
04:22I'm sure you will. I've seen you do it before.
04:24Yeah, thank you.
04:26Thanks, well done Megan and good luck for later.
04:28Yeah, you too.
04:29Right, so I found Monty Hine. Monty, like keeping it nice and cool under the umbrella.
04:37It's quite important because it gets quite hot in these cars when you're sitting here with the helmet on.
04:40Yeah, you do get fried a little bit. You do get fried a little bit.
04:43You do?
04:44No, yeah.
04:45How's qualifying? You're in a good position here.
04:47Yeah, really good, really happy with this. I got this qualified from Snet last time so I started last there.
04:51So this is much nicer to be up at the sharp end and with the toe here it's anyone's game in the top ten or so I reckon.
04:58So yeah, I'm really pleased with this.
05:00From the races we've watched already it's incredible, you know, where you can be sixth, eighth and the thing is if anyone's battling that's it, the rest of them catch up.
05:10It's going to be a hairy race, it's going to be a fun one. Just going to try and focus on getting a good start and go from there really.
05:16Yeah.
05:17Yeah.
05:18Wish you all the best Monty.
05:19Thank you very much.
05:20Good luck.
05:21We're back to the track here at Thruxton and not surprisingly perhaps the red flag has been thrown on the Educatrum 270R Championship first race of the weekend.
05:41So the race brought to a halt with four and a half minutes or so left on the clock because of Django Jones is off down at the entry to the chicane into the tyre wall.
05:55Obviously heavily damaged cars recover in the tyre wall to be repaired as well so I think that will be end of race and the result will be declared early.
06:04But we'll await confirmation of the result. It was Paul Oglesby who was leading the race behind the safety car in car number 18.
06:18Checkered flag now showing on the timing screen. Nick Sampson was in second and Adam Keane third but we don't yet have confirmation of that result officially.
06:26It may be counted back a lap. Yes, the timing screen has just counted back to the end of lap eight which places Oglesby at the top ahead of Sampson, Keane and Nick Heighton with Ben Wheatley in fifth place.
06:38But so we'll await official confirmation of that later on.
06:41And there is the remains of Django Jones's car. Look at the state of that. But all the safety systems worked as they should. Django would have been wearing a frontal head restraint along with his crash helmet.
06:55And thankfully no serious injury resulting from that impact into the tyre wall which is great to see.
07:01He will be taken to the medical centre for a check over.
