00:02:24Good morning, America.
00:02:25We've got people up and at them all across the country this morning.
00:02:29Good morning, America.
00:02:30Big event this morning.
00:02:31GMA 5K about to get underway here in New York.
00:02:34That's the scene at Governor's Island here in New York City.
00:02:38It's just off the tip of Manhattan.
00:02:40Robin, you're getting ready to run.
00:02:41Oh yeah, oh yeah, working it out, baby, working it out.
00:02:45So what if it rains on the GMA 5K?
00:02:48We have hundreds of runners that are out here on Governor's Island.
00:02:52We have runners from all across the country, from as far away as Honolulu.
00:02:57It's all about movement.
00:02:59This is the starting line.
00:03:00Ginger Z is going to be running with me.
00:03:03Sam and Lara are here.
00:03:04They're not running.
00:03:05They're our hype people.
00:03:06But that's, hey, it takes a village.
00:03:08But we're going to get it done.
00:03:09The GMA 5K is on its way, guys.
00:03:13Well, you have two other hype guys right here in the studio, Robin.
00:03:17George and I, we are looking forward to watching you all running.
00:03:20We are live around the nation.
00:03:21Check out our runners in Houston.
00:03:23There they are.
00:03:25Philly and Tampa.
00:03:27They're all ready to rock the GMA 5K.
00:03:31That is all coming up.
00:03:32That is coming up.
00:03:33We're going to begin with a severe weather.
00:03:34Flash front emergency in the east.
00:03:36Wildfires in the Midwest.
00:03:37Ginger is both running and tracking it all this morning.
00:03:39Good morning, Ginger.
00:03:41You know, the top end of the storm is going to bring us rain, but nothing like what they
00:03:45saw in western Maryland, parts of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Potomac Highlands of West
00:03:49Virginia.
00:03:50That's where we still find flood warnings this morning, because even though a majority of
00:03:53today will be dry there, they're getting heavy rain in pockets again by tonight.
00:03:57Just not what they need.
00:03:59The rivers and creeks are at the brink.
00:04:04Torrential rain, leading to a flash flood emergency in western Maryland.
00:04:10This is actually a road.
00:04:12Up to two inches of rain per hour, forcing rivers and streams over their banks and into
00:04:16the streets.
00:04:17A certain part of Main Street, there was probably a foot and a half, two foot of water at one
00:04:24spot by the library.
00:04:26Was this a curb or something?
00:04:27Roads overrun.
00:04:29Look at this.
00:04:30This is crazy.
00:04:31More than 200 students and staff evacuated from several schools as floodwaters rose.
00:04:37It was chaos everywhere.
00:04:38Everyone trying to panic and get their kids.
00:04:40Boats rescuing the stranded at an elementary school.
00:04:42You can see water approaching the second floor.
00:04:45This dumpster bobbing in the strong water.
00:04:48Road closures separating families for hours.
00:04:51As the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast battle heavy rain, three major wildfires raging in dry
00:04:56and hot Minnesota.
00:04:57Up to 150 buildings now destroyed.
00:05:00We put every nail in that house.
00:05:02We painted every wall.
00:05:03We did it from the ground up.
00:05:04And just to know it might be gone is so scary.
00:05:07Many still evacuated from their homes.
00:05:09North of Duluth, the Camp House fire burning more than 18 square miles.
00:05:14Zero containment and we've lost about 40 plus structures, homes and cabins.
00:05:20Minnesota's governor calling up the National Guard to help.
00:05:25Thankfully, the pattern is shifting for Minnesota and the Northern Plains.
00:05:28You see this storm that's twirling up and will bring rain.
00:05:31You can see the fires just north of Duluth there.
00:05:33It does take a lot, so I don't know that it's going to put fires out, but it will make fighting
00:05:37them easier.
00:05:38That same line, though, attached to the severe storms, damaging wind and hail possible.
00:05:43Chicago, much of Wisconsin, into Michigan, Indiana, too.
00:05:46Michael.
00:05:46All right, Ginger, thank you for bringing that to us.
00:05:48And we're going to turn now to breaking news overnight on the Menendez brother.
00:05:52The judge resentencing them to 50 years to life for the 1989 murders of their parents,
00:05:57which means they are eligible for parole.
00:05:59Chief National Correspondent Matt Gutman is in Los Angeles with the story including exclusive
00:06:03reaction from Eric Menendez.
00:06:05Good morning, Matt.
00:06:07Hey, good morning, Michael.
00:06:07And for the Menendez brothers and their family, that resentencing was a vindication decades
00:06:13in the making.
00:06:13And we were there in court as yesterday's proceedings started to unfold faster than expected and
00:06:19culminating with that stunning moment when the brothers addressed the court and their
00:06:23family.
00:06:24This morning, victory for the Menendez brothers.
00:06:27The Menendez brothers have done remarkable work, and today is a great day after 35 years.
00:06:34The judge ruling that the brothers who were serving sentences of life without the possibility
00:06:38of parole for murdering their parents in 1989 will be resentenced to 50 years to life, making
00:06:45them immediately eligible for parole.
00:06:47But it's a process that could take months or years.
00:06:49In the courtroom, the two brothers, now middle-aged men in prison blues, appearing on a video link
00:06:55side by side.
00:06:56Five witnesses testifying to the brothers' character and remorse and the alleged sexual
00:07:01abuse they faced by their father.
00:07:03After the judge announced he would resentence them, the brothers reading statements, Lyle putting
00:07:07on glasses, craning forward, telling the judge, I killed my mom and dad.
00:07:12I give no excuses.
00:07:13I do not blame my parents.
00:07:15I was a 21-year-old who thought I could fix what I could not fix.
00:07:19Eric telling the court, my actions were criminal, selfish, and cowardly.
00:07:23He offered no excuses, saying, I fired all five rounds at my parents and went to reload.
00:07:29Outside the court, the family arm-in-arm, and Eric's wife, Tammy, embracing the brother's
00:07:33defense attorney as family members rejoiced.
00:07:36I'm relieved.
00:07:39I'm still processing.
00:07:41And in an exclusive statement to ABC News, Eric's saying, I'm deeply grateful for the
00:07:46courageous judge and his belief in Lyle and me.
00:07:49I will not let him down.
00:07:51But not with the family.
00:07:52Matriarch Terry Baralt, the brother's aunt, has stage four cancer.
00:07:57Describe to me the exact words your mother said when you told her, 50 to life, they have
00:08:01a chance at parole.
00:08:02She said, thank you, honey.
00:08:07Her daughter telling us, Terry hoping to see her nephews before she dies.
00:08:12She knows how hard I've worked for this.
00:08:14Yeah.
00:08:14And this was for her.
00:08:18Everything that I have done, every interview that I have given, every fight that I have
00:08:22fought, this is for her.
00:08:26So she said, thank you.
00:08:27As part of an expedited parole process initiated by Governor Gavin Newsom, the brothers are
00:08:32due to appear in front of a parole board on June 13th.
00:08:35Just a reminder, even if they are granted immediate parole, and that's not a foregone
00:08:40conclusion, it could be months before they're actually released, George.
00:08:43Okay, Matt.
00:08:44Thanks very much.
00:08:45We're going to get the latest now on President Trump arriving in Qatar this morning, the second
00:08:48stop of his four-day trip to the Middle East, where he's mixing diplomacy with business
00:08:52deals.
00:08:52Chief White House Correspondent Mary Bruce traveling with the president.
00:08:55Good morning, Mary.
00:08:57Good morning, George.
00:08:58You have President Trump now on the second leg of his visit here in the Middle East, here
00:09:02in Doha.
00:09:03But before leaving Saudi Arabia early this morning, the president having an historic
00:09:07visit with the new president of Syria, the first by an American president in more than
00:09:11two decades.
00:09:13This morning, President Trump touching down in Qatar.
00:09:15Trump kicking off the second leg of his three-country tour to the Middle East after visiting
00:09:20Saudi Arabia.
00:09:21Trump this morning marking a major shift in U.S. policy towards Syria, meeting new Syrian
00:09:25President Ahmed al-Shara alongside Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, with President
00:09:31Erdogan of Turkey joining by phone.
00:09:33With the support of leaders in this room and the great leaders you are, we are currently
00:09:38exploring normalizing relations with Syria's new government.
00:09:42The face-to-face coming just hours after Trump announced he would lift sanctions on Syria
00:09:46now that the Assad regime has crumbled.
00:09:49I will be ordering the cessation of sanctions against Syria in order to give them a chance
00:09:55at greatness.
00:09:56It's a move, Trump says, came at the request of the Saudi Crown Prince.
00:10:00Oh, what I do for the Crown Prince.
00:10:02The first major foreign trip of Trump's second term focused on strengthening business ties
00:10:07with the Middle East. Joining him, leaders of some of the world's most powerful companies
00:10:11from IBM to Google and Uber, and of course, Elon Musk. The president now touting a $600 billion
00:10:17investment in the U.S. from the Saudis, though details are sparse.
00:10:21The Saudis giving Trump the royal treatment. The Crown Prince rolling out the lavender carpet.
00:10:28Trump piling on the praise.
00:10:30I like him a lot. I like him too much. That's why we give so much, you know? Too much. I like you too much.
00:10:38The president describing a transactional approach to foreign relations based on making deals regardless
00:10:43of past history. From embracing the Saudi Crown Prince years after U.S. intelligence concluded,
00:10:49he orchestrated the murder of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi to forging ties with
00:10:53Russia's Vladimir Putin.
00:10:55In recent years, far too many American presidents have been afflicted with the notion that it's our
00:11:01job to look into the souls of foreign leaders and use U.S. policy to dispense justice for their sins.
00:11:09But hanging over the visit, serious questions about Trump's own business interests. His sons,
00:11:14who now run the Trump Organization, have projects in the works in all three countries he's visiting.
00:11:19Trump Tower, Jeddah, coming soon.
00:11:23Trump now in Qatar, which he once called a funder of terrorism.
00:11:27But now he's poised to accept that extraordinary gift from the royal family,
00:11:31that $400 million luxury jet, known as a flying palace, to be used as Air Force One before being
00:11:37transferred to his presidential library. The proposed deal raising serious questions about
00:11:42what it will cost American taxpayers to retrofit the jet to modify its security,
00:11:48and whether the gift violates the Constitution's ban on gifts from foreign heads of state.
00:11:53Trump overnight defending that proposed gift, saying the current Air Force One is
00:11:57less than impressive. Some people say, oh, you shouldn't accept gifts for the country.
00:12:02My attitude is, why wouldn't I accept a gift? But even members of his own party aren't sold.
00:12:08I also think that the plane poses significant espionage and surveillance problems,
00:12:14so we'll see how this issue plays out. But I certainly have concerns.
00:12:20And the president is kicking off his time here in Doha with a formal state visit, including a lavish state dinner tonight.
00:12:26He's also expected to speak to U.S. service members here in Qatar. George.
00:12:29Mary, also news this morning that a company with ties to the Chinese government is investing several hundred million dollars
00:12:34in one of the Trump family's crypto businesses.
00:12:39Yeah, George, that's exactly right. GD Culture Group, a small technology company with ties to China that operates on TikTok,
00:12:45announcing plans to purchase up to 300 million of the Trump Bitcoin.
00:12:49They are just the latest business with foreign ties to jump into the president's cryptocurrency business.
00:12:55And all of this is coming as the president is working on a deal to allow TikTok to continue operating in the U.S.
00:13:01Ethics experts are sounding the alarm about conflicts of interest, but the White House insists the president is following the law.
00:13:06Yeah, we've never seen a mix of personal finance and diplomacy like we're seeing on this trip and in the early months of this presidency.
00:13:12Mary Bruce, thanks very much. Michael.
00:13:15All right. Thank you, George. Now to breaking news.
00:13:17Overseas, the deadly new Israeli strikes on Gaza overnight.
00:13:20Tom Sufi-Burge is in Tel Aviv for us this morning. Good morning, Tom.
00:13:25Good morning, Michael. Yeah, Israel overnight launching a series of deadly strikes in Gaza,
00:13:29killing around 70 people and more than 20 children, according to the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry.
00:13:34Now, it follows separate Israeli strikes on two Gaza hospitals Tuesday,
00:13:37and Israeli officials saying one attack targeted a top Hamas leader.
00:13:40It comes after President Trump signaled a significant policy shift on Gaza,
00:13:44saying he's now working to end the war.
00:13:47Cease-fire negotiations are underway in Qatar today, where the president is heading next.
00:13:50And French President Macron launching a blistering attack on Israel's aid blockade of Gaza,
00:13:56calling it a, quote, disgrace.
00:13:58For now, Israel doubling down on its threat to escalate the war.
00:14:02The question right now, guys, is will President Trump be able to force Israel's prime minister
00:14:06to stop the war, to end the suffering, and free the remaining hostages?
00:14:11George.
00:14:11Tom Sufi-Burge, thanks.
00:14:13Switch gears now to an about-face from Major League Baseball on Pete Rose.
00:14:16The all-time hit leader was reinstated, along with other players who had been banned,
00:14:20making them eligible for the Hall of Fame.
00:14:22Rick Johnson here with the details.
00:14:23Good morning, Witt.
00:14:23Hey, George.
00:14:24Good morning to you.
00:14:24For years, it's been debated at sports bars and at breakfast tables.
00:14:28Should Pete Rose, a.k.a. Charlie Hustle, be reinstated and eligible for the Hall of Fame,
00:14:32despite admitting to gambling on baseball?
00:14:35Now, we have the answer.
00:14:382-1 pitch from Schau.
00:14:40There it is!
00:14:41Rose has a good stop!
00:14:43This morning, Major League Baseball's all-time hits leader, Pete Rose,
00:14:47among those now removed from the league's banned list months after his death.
00:14:51Rose, who died in September at the age of 83, now has a shot at the Hall of Fame.
00:14:56We still don't know that he's going to be in the Hall of Fame.
00:14:59The expectation is that Pete Rose will be voted in.
00:15:03The 17-time All-Star left the game in disgrace in 1989,
00:15:07after an investigation found that he'd bet on games, including his own team,
00:15:11as manager for the Cincinnati Reds.
00:15:13The MLB commissioner saying in a statement,
00:15:16obviously a person no longer with us cannot represent a threat to the integrity of the game.
00:15:21Rose first admitted to betting on baseball in a 2004 interview with ABC's Charlie Gibson.
00:15:26Did you bet on baseball?
00:15:30Yes, I did.
00:15:31And that was my mistake, not coming clean a lot earlier.
00:15:36Did you bet on your own team?
00:15:37Yes.
00:15:37Major League Baseball also reinstating shoeless Joe Jackson,
00:15:42who was famously accused of fixing multiple games during the 1919 World Series
00:15:47brought to life on the silver screen by Ray Liotta in Field of Dreams.
00:15:51Bet it's good to be playing again, huh?
00:15:55Getting thrown out of baseball was like having part of me amputated.
00:16:00And the decision now removes a total of 16 deceased players from the ban list.
00:16:06Now, the earliest Rose could be eligible to be voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame would be 2028, guys.
00:16:12I don't think if he's eligible with being the all-time hits leader, he should get it.
00:16:15Yeah, that's what many people expect.
00:16:17All right, thank you so much for that, Whit.
00:16:18Now, let's go back to Governor's Island, where the GMA 5K is minutes away from starting.
00:16:24Robert, are you stressed and warmed up?
00:16:26What you doing?
00:16:26Oh, yeah, I'm ready to go.
00:16:29I'm ready to go, Michael.
00:16:30And we've got Will Reeve here.
00:16:31We've got members of the GMA family out here in support.
00:16:34There's the starting line.
00:16:35But let's talk about a sport where you don't have to worry about the weather right now.
00:16:38Let's talk about a little indoor sport.
00:16:41No rain on the basketball court.
00:16:43It's good to be here, Robin.
00:16:44Good to see you all.
00:16:45And I have to say the Boston Celtics' worst fears were confirmed.
00:16:49That's the big news.
00:16:50Jason Tatum did rupture his Achilles tendon after that injury in Game 4.
00:16:56Against the Knicks on Monday, the Celtics calling the surgery successful.
00:17:00But Tatum will miss the rest of these playoffs and also likely most of next season.
00:17:05The Celtics are right now on the brink of elimination.
00:17:08They play the Knicks tonight in Boston in Game 5.
00:17:11Speaking of elimination, the number one seed in the East, the Cleveland Cavaliers going down
00:17:17in five games to the Indiana Pacers.
00:17:19Pacers star Tyrese Halliburton was recently voted most overrated player by fellow NBA players.
00:17:25Well, all he did was put up 31 points, eight assists, and six rebounds in a closeout game.
00:17:30The Pacers moving on to their second consecutive Eastern Conference final appearance.
00:17:36And the huge Game 5 for the top seed in the whole NBA.
00:17:40The Oklahoma City Thunder held on to beat the Denver Nuggets despite 44 points from Nikola Jokic.
00:17:46The Thunder now up 3-2 and one win away from the Western Conference finals.
00:17:50Got more basketball tonight.
00:17:51The Knicks Celtics, they can close it out.
00:17:53That's right.
00:17:53But how about all these runners that are out here in support?
00:17:56This is not awesome.
00:17:57I know.
00:17:57So great.
00:17:58I know.
00:17:58And you're great for being out here, too.
00:18:00I'm here.
00:18:00You know, Michael and George, not so much.
00:18:02They're nice and dry in the studio.
00:18:03But that's all right, guys.
00:18:04That's all right.
00:18:05You know what?
00:18:05We can take the ribbing.
00:18:06It's just about worth it.
00:18:08Yeah.
00:18:09I'm dry and warm.
00:18:11George is kind of nice in here.
00:18:12Coming up, Aaron Katursky has latest on Shaw Aditi-Cromes trial after the prosecution put their star witness on the sand.
00:18:18Of course, that was Cassie Ventura.
00:18:19And we're tracking the airline summit amid airport chaos.
00:18:23And if your summer travel will be impacted, we'll be right back.
00:18:27Welcome back to GMA.
00:18:38We are back.
00:18:39And we're waiting for the GMA 5K.
00:18:41That's what we're waiting for.
00:18:42It's about to kick off at Governor's Island just across the river from Manhattan.
00:18:46Lara and Sam are the unofficial race officials.
00:18:50Robin and Ginger, they're all geared up the run.
00:18:53How you all feeling out there in the rain?
00:18:55Awesome.
00:18:56Hey, Michael, thank you very much.
00:18:59You're the unofficial, official, unofficial.
00:19:01I'm kind of a race unofficial person.
00:19:03But we're running.
00:19:04We're running.
00:19:05We're running.
00:19:05We're running.
00:19:05We're running.
00:19:11We're here for you.
00:19:12How do you feel at your first race?
00:19:14I'm really excited, especially in the rain.
00:19:17That looks lovely.
00:19:18It's going to make it that much more memorable.
00:19:20Make it more memorable.
00:19:21But thank you all for being out here, people.
00:19:26We know you guys are ready to go.
00:19:30We're going to get back to you guys in just a minute.
00:19:32We're going to turn now, though, to the Sean Diddy Combs sex trafficking trial.
00:19:35Testimony from the prosecution's star witness, Combs' former girlfriend, Cassie Ventura.
00:19:39She says he forced her to take part in his wild parties.
00:19:42Chief investigative correspondent Aaron Katursky is at the court.
00:19:44Good morning, Aaron.
00:19:45And good morning to you, George.
00:19:47She was 22 and on the brink of stardom.
00:19:50But before long, Cassie Ventura told the jury she was scheduling so many sex performances for Sean Combs, it became her full-time job.
00:20:00This morning, a second day of testimony at Sean Combs' racketeering and sex trafficking trial from ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura.
00:20:06And if it's anything like the first, it could be raw and emotional.
00:20:09Is she ready?
00:20:11She's very ready and confident.
00:20:12With her husband, Alex Fine, in court watching and eight months pregnant, Ventura described her decade-long relationship with Combs that she says was plagued by jealousy, violence, and humiliating sex.
00:20:23From the witness stand, Ventura never looked at Combs.
00:20:25But she broke down in tears when she told the jury she took drugs and had sex with male prostitutes while he watched, sometimes for days at a time, because with Combs, it was the only one-on-one time I would get.
00:20:36Ventura said she was 22 and really super young, naive, when Combs first proposed the so-called freak-offs.
00:20:43Eventually, they happened so often, Ventura said it would be impossible to remember them all.
00:20:47But she did remember how they felt.
00:20:49I felt disgusting, she said.
00:20:51I was humiliated.
00:20:53At first, she said I was in love and wanting to make him happy.
00:20:56Later, if she refused to participate, she testified she feared making Combs angry.
00:21:01What did Sean do when he was angry, a prosecutor asked.
00:21:04He would be violent with me, Ventura responded.
00:21:07The jury saw some of that on 2016 hotel surveillance video.
00:21:11Ventura said she hurried down the hall, trying to escape a sexual encounter that turned violent.
00:21:16I got hit by Sean, and I had a black eye, she said.
00:21:19Sean followed me into the hallway, grabbed me up, threw me on the ground, kicked me, tried to drag me back to the room.
00:21:25In order to prove racketeering, the prosecution is going to have to show that Mr. Combs and others conspired together to further illegal acts.
00:21:34In this particular case, the prosecution is trying to show that Mr. Combs, along with assistants and his security members and other members of his staff, were aware that they were giving illegal drugs out, that they were taking individuals such as Cassie and others against their will to do these sexual acts.
00:21:50Ventura, who goes by the stage name Cassie, was a young, budding artist, signed to Bad Boy Records, hitting mainstream in 2006 with hits like Me and You and Long Way to Go.
00:22:04But she testified her career was stifled because fulfilling Combs' sexual fantasies became a job where there was no space to do anything else.
00:22:18Some of her testimony was too graphic, it seemed, for members of the jury.
00:22:22They looked down or they shook their heads.
00:22:24The sex that Ventura described, the defense says, was consensual, and the defense called Ventura a capable, strong adult who made a free choice.
00:22:34She's expected to be on the stand here all week, guys.
00:22:37Yeah, I should have said that testimony was hard to hear there, Aaron.
00:22:39Thank you so much for that.
00:22:40Back on GMA with the latest on the travel chaos at Newark Airport.
00:22:44The FAA is holding a summit today with airlines as they work to reduce extensive flight delays.
00:22:49Janay Norman is at Newark Airport.
00:22:51Good morning, Janay.
00:22:52Hey, Michael, good morning to you.
00:22:56It is not even 8 a.m., and we're already seeing 78 cancellations here at Newark International Airport.
00:23:01That says that critical meeting is getting underway between the FAA and major airlines to address multiple issues here at this airport, including equipment problems.
00:23:11Air traffic controllers' computer screens have gone dark multiple times in the past two weeks.
00:23:17One incident preventing them from communicating with pilots for up to 90 seconds.
00:23:21That alone caused hundreds of cancellations.
00:23:24So now the FAA is meeting with airlines, including Delta, United, American, and JetBlue, to propose cutting back on flights to reduce ongoing delays.
00:23:33They're proposing just 68 flights per hour, so 34 taking off, 34 landing, as opposed to the 80 or more that's typical right now.
00:23:41This airport is a major hub for United Airlines, which has already agreed to cut 35 flights a day.
00:23:47The thing is, if approved, those flight reductions would likely remain in effect through the summer, likely impacting the very busy summer travel season.
00:23:55Guys.
00:23:55Boy, no question about that.
00:23:56Okay, Janay, thanks very much.
00:23:58Now let's go to Robin, Lara, and Ginger.
00:24:00Hey, Robin.
00:24:03We are here, Ginger.
00:24:04Ready to run?
00:24:05Yeah.
00:24:06Are you all ready to run?
00:24:10Laura, keep staring us on.
00:24:13Are you starting the race?
00:24:13You're going to set us off on the other side?
00:24:15Yeah.
00:24:15Did you bring your whistle?
00:24:17I have a, I have like a horn.
00:24:19I'm the official starter.
00:24:21You will find out right after this.
00:24:23But the moment we've all been waiting for, George.
00:24:26The GMA 5K is about to begin here in New York.
00:24:29Robin and the team are at the starting line with our GMA family, and they are not alone.
00:24:35Check out what's going on around the country.
00:24:37All across the country right now, we're starting in Chicago, where Christian Picos from our ABC station WLS
00:24:42is live with the Chicago Area Runners Association.
00:24:46How's it going, Christian?
00:24:52Hey, good morning, George.
00:24:53I'm joined by the Chicago Area Runners Association this morning.
00:24:56Kara for short.
00:24:57We're live at North Avenue Beach, and I think we're ready to go.
00:25:00Good morning, Chicago.
00:25:01Good morning, Chicago.
00:25:08Obviously, we're all very excited for the first ever GMA 5K taking place.
00:25:12It's across the country, but also right here in Chicago.
00:25:14We're going to be heading up about a mile and a half north on Chicago's lakefront,
00:25:18heading south and wrapping up here.
00:25:20George, it's going to be a fantastic day.
00:25:22Looks like it.
00:25:23All right, Christian Picos, thank you.
00:25:25Good luck out there in Chicago.
00:25:26Now, we're going to go to Grapevine, Texas, where Natalie Haddad from ABC affiliate WFAA
00:25:32is running with the Lake Grapevine Runners.
00:25:34Hey, Natalie, are the runner's spirits bigger in Texas, too?
00:25:37Everything is bigger in Texas, Michael.
00:25:43I know you know this all the way over there in New York.
00:25:45Lake Grapevine Runners, they're ready to go.
00:25:48Check them out!
00:25:52So, earlier, we were all talking about the camaraderie of running,
00:25:56and everyone here, tight community, big community, if you will,
00:25:59for being big in Texas, and they are ready to hit the pavement
00:26:023.1 miles around Lake Grapevine, beautiful Lake Grapevine.
00:26:06It's going to be an awesome day.
00:26:08Now, let's go to Robin, Lara.
00:26:10Robin's going to run.
00:26:11Ginger's going to run.
00:26:12Lara's there.
00:26:13Sam is there.
00:26:14Will is there.
00:26:16Gio is there.
00:26:16All emotional support, because they're not running a thing.
00:26:20But Lara's going to do us the honors, because you have the air horn, Lara.
00:26:23You've got to kick us off.
00:26:25Take it away, Lara.
00:26:27I am, Michael.
00:26:28Thank you, Michael.
00:26:29I'm ready with the air horn.
00:26:30But first, I'm going to talk to some of our runners,
00:26:33starting with the newbie of the group, Robin.
00:26:38Welcome.
00:26:39Ginger, running five to five.
00:26:41Robin, this is your first 5K.
00:26:44Are you ready?
00:26:45It's my first 5K, and something tells me I will never forget my first 5K
00:26:49with all of you.
00:26:50I cannot wait.
00:26:51Can we get?
00:26:51Can we get?
00:26:52Can we go?
00:26:52Any advice?
00:26:53Yes.
00:26:53The advice is we just beat Ray, and that's our only goal.
00:26:56All right.
00:26:57All right.
00:26:57All right.
00:26:57Let's go to Ray.
00:26:58Ray is running, guys.
00:26:59Ike Ajayi is running.
00:27:01Will Gantz is running, and he's going to live stream the whole thing on the TikTok.
00:27:05So check that out.
00:27:06Lori Bergamotto also taking one for the team.
00:27:10Sam Champion is back in the thick of it with runners.
00:27:13Sam, how's it going back there?
00:27:15Ready, Lara.
00:27:16Everybody ready to go?
00:27:18We don't care.
00:27:21All right, Lara.
00:27:22Let's get this thing going.
00:27:24All right.
00:27:25All right, guys.
00:27:27Here we go.
00:27:28Runners, on your mark, get set.
00:27:38We're up.
00:27:39Just one step ahead of Ray.
00:27:40All right, that's it.
00:27:41One step ahead of Ray.
00:27:42That's what we got to do.
00:27:44Oh, good.
00:27:45See?
00:27:46I like thinking the middle.
00:27:46Middle is like...
00:27:47Yes.
00:27:48We'll let everybody else pass.
00:27:49Now, come on.
00:27:50We got it.
00:27:52You go, man.
00:27:53Hey.
00:27:54Hey, you little rabbits.
00:27:55They're off to a start.
00:27:59They're off.
00:28:00They're along with all the other runners who walk around the country, just not here in New
00:28:05York.
00:28:05We're going to keep checking back with everyone as they move on the course throughout the morning.
00:28:10A nice little 5K pace right there.
00:28:13You got it.
00:28:13All right.
00:28:14Somebody's taking the lead.
00:28:15I wonder how competitive it's going to be.
00:28:17Well, you know it's going to kick in for Robin soon.
00:28:19Yeah.
00:28:19We're going to kick in soon.
00:28:20But it's just great to see people out there moving, sticking together, participating in
00:28:24the first ever GMA 5K.
00:28:28The GMA 5K is underway.
00:28:30Let's go to Alex Perez in Sheboygan, Wisconsin with Kim Meller, who we've been following her
00:28:35training.
00:28:36We've been following her for six weeks, and now she's doing her first 5K.
00:28:40Alex, how are things going out there?
00:28:41Hey, good morning, Michael.
00:28:46Yeah, we are doing Kim's very first 5K.
00:28:49Good morning, everybody.
00:28:50How are we doing here in Sheboygan?
00:28:53Kim, you've been training so hard.
00:28:55What does this mean to you right now?
00:28:57You're doing it.
00:28:57Right?
00:28:58We are in it.
00:28:59I am so excited.
00:29:00I am thrilled everybody has joined me.
00:29:03I just want everybody to have a fun time, and we're out moving, and it's great outside.
00:29:08You said it's not only about moving, but it's also about building community, right?
00:29:11Building community, and someone brought up the idea we should make this a yearly event.
00:29:17That sounds like a great idea.
00:29:19Building that community, why is that important?
00:29:21What does it do when you have that community?
00:29:23It just makes you feel great.
00:29:25I've got a lot of people here who walk, and then we've got professional runners almost,
00:29:30and everybody's together hanging out, and we're all doing the same thing.
00:29:34And for you, this is particularly big, because not that long ago, doing something like this
00:29:39wasn't possible.
00:29:40I couldn't do it.
00:29:42I had one leg that was 90% clogged, and I had one leg that was my other leg would be
00:29:4980, and I had to have stents put in, and I got a new life.
00:29:53So what are you hoping at the end of this, what are you hoping you're going to feel?
00:29:57A little bit of relief, but just proud of everybody who came, and we're sharing it together, and
00:30:05it means the world to me.
00:30:07Cool.
00:30:07After six weeks, we're finally doing it.
00:30:09Can we hear it for Kim, everybody?
00:30:12Michael, we're going to send it back to you.
00:30:13We're going to keep on walking here.
00:30:14All right.
00:30:15Keep on walking there, Alan.
00:30:16Kim said that she's the building community.
00:30:18She's actually really inspiring the community as well.
00:30:21And now, we're going to go to Ginger.
00:30:22Hey, Ginger, how are you doing out there?
00:30:25Hey, I'm feeling inspired, Michael, because Robin is killing it.
00:30:30You are killing it on your first run.
00:30:31We're dodging pedals.
00:30:33That's right.
00:30:33But once we started running, the rain is not bad.
00:30:36It doesn't matter.
00:30:37It's like, I read a quote about how it's not just a shower, and you get your physical run
00:30:43in, but the therapy of it to me.
00:30:46What'd you say?
00:30:47What'd you say?
00:30:48She said she's been loving running outside, and I've got to agree.
00:30:51I love to run outside, even if it is raining, and you're joining us this morning.
00:30:55Look at that radar.
00:30:56Throughout the Northeast, we do have some of those light, we'll call this moderate showers.
00:31:00You know, this is where I thrive.
00:31:03It's like a hurricane.
00:31:04You know what I'm talking about?
00:31:06We're just getting our diaphragms ready.
00:31:08Are you all having a great race?
00:31:10That's how we are.
00:31:12If you can't run like this with a bunch of friends around you, I don't know how to get.
00:31:17All right, there is so much more coming up on GMA.
00:31:19We're running coast to coast.
00:31:20The GMA 5 fight has all been just begun.
00:31:24Stay with us.
00:31:25Your local news and weather are next.
00:31:30Good morning, America.
00:31:36It's 8 a.m.
00:31:36Fires and floods.
00:31:38Flash flood emergency on the East Coast.
00:31:40Roads overrun.
00:31:41Look at this.
00:31:42This is crazy.
00:31:43More than 200 students and staff evacuated from several schools.
00:31:47And the wildfire is raging in Minnesota.
00:31:50More than 100 structures burned to the ground.
00:31:52There's relief on the way.
00:31:53Kim Kardashian on the stand, testifying in the 2016 Paris Jewel Heist trial, telling
00:32:01the packed courtroom she thought she was going to die, how she says that day changed her
00:32:06life.
00:32:08Operation Storksby.
00:32:10New details on a comprehensive review of infant formula safety.
00:32:14Our chief medical correspondent, Dr. Tara Narula, tells us what parents need to know.
00:32:18And we hit the ground running.
00:32:23The GMA 5K is underway.
00:32:25We are on the move right now, sprinting from the starting line just moments ago.
00:32:30Are we there yet?
00:32:31Yee-haw!
00:32:32We're checking in with all of you, including running clubs across the country.
00:32:37And you don't want to miss our party at the finish line.
00:32:41Wait, there's a party?
00:32:42That's motivation.
00:32:43But first, you know we have to say...
00:32:47Live from Times Square, it's Wednesday.
00:32:57Good morning, America.
00:32:58Rain may be coming down here in New York, but the spirits are high for our GMA 5K.
00:33:03It's already underway.
00:33:04Robin and Ginger out there on the course here in New York.
00:33:06Hey, guys.
00:33:09Hey.
00:33:10Hooray.
00:33:11We are making it.
00:33:12We're, like, over a mile and a half, I think.
00:33:15Oh, yeah, we're on...
00:33:15We've got to be halfway.
00:33:16I have to look apart now that we're on camera.
00:33:18Okay.
00:33:19Look at me.
00:33:20Just flew in.
00:33:23But it's been...
00:33:24It's been great.
00:33:25Yeah.
00:33:26And we're just about, what, a mile and a half in, almost?
00:33:29Let's take halfway.
00:33:30Come on.
00:33:31Like halfway.
00:33:31It has been so motivating.
00:33:33All these people have been wonderful.
00:33:34We've been talking.
00:33:35Yes.
00:33:35And that's the beauty of running together.
00:33:37I know.
00:33:38And Ginger's been a wonderful coach.
00:33:39She could have been way up there, but she's staying here to help me through.
00:33:43This is a good pace.
00:33:44Team player.
00:33:45Your first race?
00:33:46This is...
00:33:46First one.
00:33:46She's on.
00:33:47Woo!
00:33:48Everyone around the country is doing it.
00:33:49As long as she's doing it.
00:33:50If you're walking, running, jogging on a treadmill, doing housework, you're moving, you're with us.
00:33:58Now try talking at the same time.
00:34:00I've got to say.
00:34:01With an I.F.P. pack.
00:34:03And a bike pack.
00:34:05Around your waist.
00:34:06You're both running at a great pace.
00:34:09It is inspiring to see you do this.
00:34:11I don't know how you're running and talking at the same time, to be honest with you.
00:34:14I'm out of breath here at the desk just sitting down.
00:34:16Just me.
00:34:17But we're proud of you.
00:34:18Keep on running.
00:34:20Keep on running.
00:34:20Keep on inspiring everybody.
00:34:22You know, we're following runners and walkers around the country.
00:34:25From Honolulu to Philadelphia.
00:34:27From Houston to Los Angeles.
00:34:30And take a look at our control room.
00:34:32Even though they have to get the show on the air.
00:34:34Our GMA team's still at it.
00:34:35You see our director, Lily.
00:34:36Our producer, Ross, putting in the work on the treadmill.
00:34:39Right there.
00:34:41Also, senior producer, Greg Tafaro, is on Team GMA from home.
00:34:45Boy, they're doing it.
00:34:47Lily's really working.
00:34:48Look at that.
00:34:48From home, he's working.
00:34:49Okay.
00:34:50Lara, Gio, and Will Reed were cheering everyone on.
00:34:52We're going to have much more fun with the GMA 5K in a moment.
00:34:56But first, Sam Champion's out there at Governor's Island.
00:34:58He's tracking the severe weather.
00:35:00Good morning again, Sam.
00:35:02Good morning, Michael.
00:35:03And this rain that the runners are in are part of a big area of low pressure that has just stalled.
00:35:08It's a giant rainmaker on the East Coast.
00:35:10And while it may be raining on our runners here, let me show you what it did in Maryland, Pennsylvania, parts of West Virginia.
00:35:16This was some serious flooding.
00:35:18The northern branch of the Potomac River jumped 20 feet in 18 hours.
00:35:24There was so much rain.
00:35:25A lot of those areas got two inches of rain per hour there.
00:35:28More than 200 students evacuated from some schools in that area.
00:35:32Water covering Main Street in Allegheny County in Maryland.
00:35:35Five inches of rain in an hour there.
00:35:37Take a look at this evening.
00:35:38We've got more rain in the Northeast.
00:35:39This is a slow-moving low.
00:35:41It's really not going anywhere.
00:35:42It's going to be some light rain with waves of heavy rain running up through the area.
00:35:46I want to quickly get to the Minnesota fires there.
00:35:49Fire conditions are a little down there, but this was a tough time for folks in Minnesota.
00:35:53That's the weather around the nation, guys.
00:35:55Back into the studio.
00:35:56We'll be watching this rain carefully as it falls on our runners this morning, guys.
00:36:00I know you are.
00:36:01Okay, Sam, thanks very much.
00:36:02We're going to turn now to Kim Kardashian on the witness stand testifying at the trial of the people accused of tying her up and robbing her at a Paris hotel.
00:36:10Maggie Rooley is covering that case.
00:36:11Good morning, Maggie.
00:36:12Hey, George.
00:36:13Good morning.
00:36:13Kim Kardashian left court on Tuesday after nearly five hours of what at times was very emotional testimony.
00:36:20Now, she left that courthouse in Paris.
00:36:22She didn't say anything to reporters who were waiting, but her lawyer did speak and said that what those alleged robbers did to Kim was violent and that it changed the arc of her life forever.
00:36:32Now, on the stand, Kim testified that she's still in therapy over the incident and that she still has these memories of being bound and gagged, held at gunpoint,
00:36:40and she's haunted by them nearly 10 years later.
00:36:43She said, quote,
00:36:44Bad memories are coming back when I hear someone taking the stairs.
00:36:48Now, security is reinforced at home.
00:36:50It's something necessary to sleep at night.
00:36:52We have security in all the rooms.
00:36:55She also testified she feared that her sister, Courtney, who was there with her in Paris but not in the room at the time of the burglary,
00:37:00was going to be the one to find her dead if those robbers killed her.
00:37:05She also said that one of the alleged robbers wrote her an apology letter in 2017, but it was something that she never was aware of before.
00:37:12But on the stand, she did express some sympathy.
00:37:14She said,
00:37:15Now, guys, this is the only time we'll be hearing from Kim on that stand, and we understand that the trial should wrap up sometime late next week.
00:37:28Guys.
00:37:28Yeah, definitely traumatic experience for her.
00:37:30Thank you so much, Maggie, for that.
00:37:32We're going to turn now to a GMA health alert about the safety of baby formula.
00:37:35The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, in partnership with the Food and Drug Administration,
00:37:40announcing new details on a comprehensive review of infant formula in the U.S.
00:37:45ABC News Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Sharon Narula is here with more.
00:37:49And, Doc, they're calling this Operation Stork Speed.
00:37:51Tell us about it.
00:37:52I love that name.
00:37:53So this is top of mind for a lot of parents because, you know, when babies are born in those first few months,
00:37:59about 20 percent receive formula exclusively.
00:38:01And then by six months, we're talking about 70 percent, 75 percent of infants that are getting formula fed.
00:38:06So, you know, the FDA does not approve formula, but they do have oversight over the safety, the nutritional content, labeling and packaging.
00:38:15And so they basically set a maximum and minimal level of certain number of nutrients.
00:38:20But there has not been a comprehensive review of formula since 1998.
00:38:25And so this is really the FDA and HHS's way of really ensuring nutritional adequacy and really looking at the safety.
00:38:33So they are opening up a period of public comment for the next 120 days where people can write in what they think the nutritional content should be and their concerns.
00:38:41And then they're going to have an expert panel convene in June to review it.
00:38:44They've also asked companies to really improve their transparency in terms of labeling, to look at developing new formulas.
00:38:52And they're also testing formulas for contaminants and heavy metals.
00:38:56So hopefully this will improve the process.
00:38:58So this review is going to take some time.
00:38:59What do you recommend for parents right now?
00:39:01Well, what's interesting, George, is that about a day before they announced this Operation Stork Speed, Consumer Reports published a report where they tested 41 formulas developed by 14 companies.
00:39:13Half of those seemed to pass the test.
00:39:15They did not find any contaminants or concerning things in the formula.
00:39:19However, the other half they did find contained in some of them arsenic, lead, bisphenols, acrylamide.
00:39:26So it does show that it's possible to produce safe, healthy formulas.
00:39:30But clearly we're not there with all of the ones that are on the market.
00:39:33So, you know, I think for now, parents can certainly look at that consumer report online.
00:39:37You can see it.
00:39:38You can also talk to your pediatrician.
00:39:40If you're making powder formula at home, make sure your water is clean.
00:39:43So if you have well water, you may want to test that.
00:39:46You want to make sure that the formula says fortified with iron.
00:39:49And then you don't want to make homemade formula.
00:39:51That's important because you want to make sure you're getting the right amount of nutrients and not putting your own contaminants in there.
00:39:55All right, Dawn.
00:39:56As always, so informative.
00:39:58Really appreciate that.
00:39:59Coming up in our GMA morning menu, from the bear to bluey, we're going to have a look at the new and returning shows coming to ABC and the Disney platform.
00:40:07Plus, we'll show you all the action on the red carpet.
00:40:10Also, we had our runners and walkers out all across the country celebrating our first ever GMA 5K.
00:40:15That includes Robin and Ginger.
00:40:17Look at them go.
00:40:18Yeah.
00:40:19We're going to check in as they clothe in on the finish line.
00:40:22Who else is out there?
00:40:23Gio and Will right there.
00:40:24They're getting ready for the after party.
00:40:26To keep everybody hydrated.
00:40:28Laren Sammer there as well.
00:40:29Hey, guys.
00:40:29All right, so we're on one of the famous Governor Island series.
00:40:34You can rent bikes, rent this, ride around.
00:40:37Look at that.
00:40:37Look at the runners are coming in.
00:40:38They're already coming in.
00:40:39We've got so much more on GMA.
00:40:42Laren, are you steering or what's happening here?
00:40:44We'll be back.
00:40:45We'll be back.
00:40:46You steer.
00:40:48Woo!
00:40:49Woo!
00:40:50Good job.
00:40:51We're running in the rain.
00:41:01That's right.
00:41:01We're back on GMA with Robin and Ginger and the home stretch of the first GMA 5K.
00:41:06We can't wait to see them finish the race soon.
00:41:09And they're the big party waiting for them in New York Governor's Island.
00:41:13Laren, how's it going out there?
00:41:17You know what, Michael?
00:41:18Well, it's raining, but we are having a great time.
00:41:21And it's because it's just such a wonderful community.
00:41:23The spirit here is awesome.
00:41:26As we are seeing runners cross the finish line of our first ever GMA 5K.
00:41:30But it's not just here in New York.
00:41:33Run clubs across the country.
00:41:34We're talking Honolulu all the way to Philadelphia, Dallas, you name it.
00:41:39Everyone is in on one of the biggest races around.
00:41:42This morning, we're saying good morning, America, to runners and walkers all across the country.
00:41:49GMA 5K, we're running for you.
00:41:53Starting off the GMA 5K, say aloha to the Honolulu runners in beautiful Hawaii.
00:42:00Aloha, America.
00:42:01From the shores of the Hawaiian Islands to coastal California, we're passing the baton to the L.A. leggers.
00:42:09GMA 5K, we're ready for you.
00:42:13From the glitz and glam of Hollywood to the Lone Star State, everyone meet the Houston Striders.
00:42:20Good morning, America, from Houston.
00:42:22And because everything is bigger in Texas, we'll have two stops here.
00:42:27Let's give a yeehaw to Dallas, Fort Worth.
00:42:30Give it a yeehaw.
00:42:32And running through the heartland in a downpour of purple rain, here's Mill City running in Minneapolis.
00:42:38Good morning, America.
00:42:41No wind, no rain stopping us.
00:42:43Let's give a windy city hello to the Chicago Area Runners Association.
00:42:48We're running to a deep dish.
00:42:50Now we're heading to dry off in the Sunshine State with the Lakeland Runners Club outside of Tampa.
00:42:56Tampa Bay loves GMA.
00:42:59Up the East Coast we go, and we're breathing in that Philadelphia freedom with the Game Changers.
00:43:04Let's go, GMA 5K.
00:43:08The finish line is now in sight.
00:43:10It's been waiting for us.
00:43:12Welcome to New York.
00:43:13We are loving seeing these athletes cross the finish line.
00:43:21Ike Kajache, Lori Bergamotto just finished the race.
00:43:25And you know what?
00:43:25We are so thrilled to be here on Governor's Island.
00:43:27Perfect for the 5K on this rainy but awesome morning.
00:43:30It's just a few minutes on a ferry from Manhattan, but it feels like a world away.
00:43:35It's open every day of the year.
00:43:37I highly recommend you come.
00:43:38So much history.
00:43:40And they are celebrating 20 years of being open to the public after acting nearly two centuries as a military base.
00:43:46A ton of history right here in New York.
00:43:50Right now, though, we want to head to our runner, Ginger, with a check on the weather.
00:43:53At least we're not running in the heat of Texas because, wow, would it be hard down there, especially this afternoon.
00:44:00You see all the records that were broken yesterday.
00:44:02San Antonio 103, Houston 95.
00:44:05Look what happens today with excessive heat warning.
00:44:08So this is actually dangerous heat.
00:44:10Austin, San Antonio could see their all-time May records.
00:44:13Stays with us, especially in southeast Texas, through the end of the week.
00:44:17It's harder to run and talk than I thought.
00:44:19Now don't look at some of the biggest shows you can expect to see across Disney platforms this year.
00:44:23Some favorites coming back.
00:44:24Some exciting new series as well.
00:44:26Rebecca Jarvis has all the details.
00:44:27She sat down with one of our leaders, Dana Walden.
00:44:30I did indeed.
00:44:30A very exciting conversation and really exciting TV shows as well as movies coming up.
00:44:36Our parent company, Disney, unveiling its new star-filled roster with a number of hit shows and movies everyone will be talking about
00:44:43and live events to keep us all on the edge of our seats.
00:44:46All the magic coming to a screen near you.
00:44:51Doors closed.
00:44:51Doors closed.
00:44:53Whether it's a returning favorite or a soon-to-be favorite.
00:44:57Tell us your story.
00:44:58The potential is high for the lineup.
00:45:01Is she a potential witness?
00:45:02Shows and movies set to be released across Disney platforms this year.
00:45:07According to Disney Entertainment co-chair Dana Walden.
00:45:11What are you most excited about?
00:45:13New seasons of our favorites like The Bear and Only Murders in the Building.
00:45:18Then we've got a spectacular new series based on the film franchise Alien.
00:45:23And it is scary and emotional and compelling and truly riveting.
00:45:29Ryan Murphy has two new shows coming for fall, one with an all-star cast, that's all's fair.
00:45:37You know what a girl's best friend is?
00:45:39Not diamonds.
00:45:41They're lawyers.
00:45:41Another show called The Beauty with Ashton Kutcher for our youngest fans.
00:45:47We have new installments of the Zombies franchise.
00:45:52Camp's now officially in session.
00:45:53Woo!
00:45:54And a new season of Phineas and Ferb.
00:46:00You've been coming to the upfronts now, I would imagine, many decades, 30 years.
00:46:05What would you say is the biggest change?
00:46:07It has changed so much.
00:46:08As we all know, you know, consumer habits are changing all the time.
00:46:13People have, you know, individual ways of watching.
00:46:17You know, whether they want to watch on demand, on a streaming service, or they want to watch live, on linear.
00:46:24The upfronts now is a celebration of the portfolios of a company like ours.
00:46:30Can we roll the siren?
00:46:31Absolutely not.
00:46:32Sure.
00:46:33The choice of how and where to watch, helping shows like ABC's High Potential, be seen by 30 million viewers.
00:46:41When we think about programming ABC with a great show like High Potential, ultimately what we know we're doing is we're programming it on ABC and 50% of its audience, they're going to watch it live.
00:46:56They want to be the first people to be able to see the show.
00:47:00And then the other 50%, largely a younger audience, are going to watch on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+.
00:47:07It's really a distribution ecosystem that gives consumers full choice of where they want to watch the shows.
00:47:15How do you create community and all that?
00:47:18It's really live events that I think are driving that real communal experience right now throughout entertainment.
00:47:26Actually, the year after next, ABC will be the home to the Oscars, the Grammys, and the Super Bowl.
00:47:30And those will be three extraordinary opportunities to bring incredibly large groups of people together, watching the same thing, sharing the same experience.
00:47:41When you look at all of these shows, it takes so much work, so much dedication, so many people.
00:47:48The groups that I oversee that contribute just on the global television side, about 25,000 people.
00:47:55And then in our production communities, we are working at any given point with 40,000 contributors.
00:48:03It takes a lot of people to make this type of premium story.
00:48:09These are the best, best creators in the business.
00:48:13Truly the best.
00:48:14All the people behind the scenes everywhere around the country.
00:48:18Right here at GMA, there's a big group of them and great leadership as well.
00:48:21By the way, guys, All's Fair, that all-female story by Ryan Murphy, incredible buzz surrounding that new show.
00:48:30Sure is, yeah.
00:48:31I look forward to seeing that, without a doubt.
00:48:33And also, the stars in those new shows were out and about on the red carpet with details about what's to come.
00:48:39Our Will Gans was there with us.
00:48:42You have to watch the show.
00:48:43I have to make the scripts, Murray.
00:48:45But you don't know.
00:48:46I don't like reading.
00:48:47From only murders in the building.
00:48:49Meryl Streep is back.
00:48:50I don't know how she keeps getting hired.
00:48:53I don't know either.
00:48:54To only Manning's in the building.
00:48:56What's the new name of the show?
00:48:58I've been Eli Elementary.
00:49:01I pay-tential.
00:49:02I spell like Peyton.
00:49:03It's game time.
00:49:05I'm just looking forward to football.
00:49:07Eagles obviously coming off of a really successful season.
00:49:10A lot of pieces are returning.
00:49:13How is baby Finn?
00:49:14Baby Finn's a baby.
00:49:16She is eating, sleeping, crying.
00:49:18All the major categories are covered.
00:49:20The anticipation for today has been unbearable.
00:49:24What do you hope Sydney does?
00:49:25Where do you hope?
00:49:26No, I'm not going to do that because that gives the answer.
00:49:29The answer.
00:49:30I'm not going to do that.
00:49:31What did the review say?
00:49:32Oh my gosh, I can't tell you that.
00:49:34It's coming so soon.
00:49:36Doctors and zombies and rookies.
00:49:38Oh my.
00:49:39Disney unveiling its new star-studded roster for the upcoming season.
00:49:43I'm their mother.
00:49:44Mother.
00:49:44No, you're not.
00:49:45Well, a mother's pink gear.
00:49:47Mother.
00:49:47An icon.
00:49:48An icon.
00:49:49Okay.
00:49:50Mother icon.
00:49:51All of us together is magic.
00:49:54Yeah.
00:49:54You got to just pull up and stay tuned and hold on.
00:49:57Bringing back fan favorites.
00:49:59Watching this real character in this world that she doesn't maybe belong in and that she's
00:50:03underestimated but she figures it out anyway.
00:50:05Dreaming up guest stars.
00:50:07I always say Diana Ross is my mother.
00:50:09That's my job.
00:50:10And I'm going to stick with the Denzel of it all.
00:50:13And dodging spoilers.
00:50:15It will be very difficult not to give anything away with anything that I say.
00:50:19So just buckle up and join us.
00:50:22All right.
00:50:23Looks like a lot of funny hair on the carpet there.
00:50:25Without a doubt.
00:50:26Now, let's go to Sam.
00:50:27Sam, you having fun too?
00:50:30All right, Michael.
00:50:30Yes, I did like Good Manning America, by the way.
00:50:33I thought that was kind of funny.
00:50:34Hey, guys.
00:50:34This is the crowd that has finished the race.
00:50:38It's all happening now.
00:50:39I'm here with Ray at our finish line.
00:50:41And one thing that's really important for our runners, right, is to make it to the finish
00:50:44line, not dry, but to get the right fuel.
00:50:47This segment is sponsored by Oikos.
00:50:49And they've been handing out the protein drinks here all morning long.
00:50:52These new Oikos protein shakes are kind of perfect for if you're on the go.
00:50:55Ray, you're on the go.
00:50:57Like I can see you normally on the go.
00:50:58So what do you think of the shakes so far?
00:51:00I mean, because you can't get them yet.
00:51:0130 grams of protein out there right now.
00:51:05They're fueling runners for our GMA 5K and all over the country and all over America
00:51:10with a boost of 30 grams, like I said, of protein, 5 grams of fiber, and there's really
00:51:14no artificial sweeteners.
00:51:15I just checked the back of the label, and it's got like one gram of sugar.
00:51:18It's amazing.
00:51:19They come in three delicious flavors.
00:51:21Hey, runners, who would you get?
00:51:22What'd you get?
00:51:24Vanilla.
00:51:24What'd you get?
00:51:25Who got the chocolate and the caramel?
00:51:27All right.
00:51:27Thanks to our sponsor, Oikos.
00:51:29We're providing this tasty kind of pick-me-up at the end of our very wet run, you guys.
00:51:33Ray, you and I will have one in just a second.
00:51:36You can get these online, and they're coming to the Shake Isle in your stores soon, guys.
00:51:41You can learn more on GMA's Instagram page.
00:51:43Back to New York.
00:51:45All right, Sam.
00:51:46Keep it up out there.
00:51:47Now, let's go back to Alex Perez.
00:51:49He's in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, with Kim Miller, who's doing her first 5K.
00:51:54Alex, how are things going out there?
00:51:58Hey, Michael.
00:51:59We're doing pretty well.
00:52:00We are at about 2.2 miles, so we're almost there.
00:52:03We've been jogging and walking.
00:52:04Kim, what do you want other people to take from this?
00:52:08Because this is new to you.
00:52:10You didn't do this.
00:52:11Life kind of put you here, and you want others to learn from it?
00:52:14I do.
00:52:14I'm hopeful that people can figure out that they can try something new.
00:52:18Get out there.
00:52:19It hurts at first.
00:52:20Just keep trying.
00:52:21Keep going.
00:52:22Find a goal.
00:52:23Set it.
00:52:24And go for it.
00:52:25And you said about gratitude, too, real quickly.
00:52:27You said appreciate every second.
00:52:30Appreciate every moment of your life.
00:52:32It's amazing.
00:52:33And then when you've got a whole bunch of people like this behind you, it just, it's amazing.
00:52:38It makes everything that much worthwhile, more worthwhile.
00:52:41Right.
00:52:41Well, Kim, we're almost at the finish line.
00:52:43We've still got a little way to go, but I'm holding on to this.
00:52:44This is your carrot at the end of the stick.
00:52:47When we get there, I can't wait to put this around your neck.
00:52:49Oh, thank you.
00:52:50Thank you for inspiring everyone.
00:52:51Can we hear from Kim one more time?
00:52:55Guys, we're almost there.
00:52:56We're still walking.
00:52:57We're jogging and walking here.
00:52:58We're going to make it to that finish line.
00:53:00But for now, we're going to send it back to you.
00:53:01All right.
00:53:01Thank you, Alex.
00:53:02Great to see Kim there.
00:53:03We have another GMA 5K update.
00:53:05Robin and Ginger crossed the line just moments ago.
00:53:08There you go.
00:53:08You see the moment when it happened.
00:53:10Triumph.
00:53:11We're going to check in with them when we come back.
00:53:23Welcome back to GMA live from Times Square.
00:53:26A replay of the moment.
00:53:31We just saw Robin and Ginger crossing the finish line of the first ever GMA 5K.
00:53:37Big smiles on their faces.
00:53:38Let's go back to Governor's Island and check in with Lair and the team.
00:53:42Hey there, George.
00:53:43We want to give a huge congratulations to everybody.
00:53:46Starting right here, if you don't mind, for our newbie, no longer.
00:53:53Your first 5K.
00:53:54Ginger, you were a great coach.
00:53:56Oh, she was a great coach.
00:53:57For Robin.
00:53:57Robin, how did it feel out there?
00:53:58You know, like community.
00:53:59It really did.
00:54:00I met Pat.
00:54:01I met Anthony.
00:54:02Seriously.
00:54:03The way, and you know, I wasn't setting any speed records out there, but it doesn't matter.
00:54:08I really, oh, hey, what's that?
00:54:10Now it's a party.
00:54:10Now it's a party.
00:54:11In the break.
00:54:12But I got to tell, Ginger right here, she was my coach through it out, and I really appreciate it.
00:54:16Running together makes all the difference.
00:54:17It does.
00:54:18And in the middle of running and pacing, you were also doing the forecast.
00:54:22Wait a minute.
00:54:22Because why not?
00:54:23I said, usually I'm the only one in the blowing wind and rain, and it was so nice to have everybody with me.
00:54:28We didn't even have to stop for water.
00:54:30We just opened our mouth.
00:54:31Right.
00:54:31There you go.
00:54:31That's true.
00:54:32Oh, great.
00:54:33Really.
00:54:33You were right about the forecast, as usual.
00:54:36Nope.
00:54:36I want to also talk to our other runners, Ike and Will and Lori B., who did such a great job.
00:54:42How did it feel out there for you guys?
00:54:43Amazing.
00:54:44For me, when I see those Achilles runners, that gives me all the inspiration I need.
00:54:49Yeah.
00:54:50Yeah.
00:54:50I loved it.
00:54:51I loved your intensity, you guys.
00:54:53It just was such a community.
00:54:54Thank you, guys, all for bringing the energy.
00:54:58And a big thank you to the moms who ran.
00:55:01We had a lot of moms who ran in honor of May, which is Moms Month.
00:55:07And we want to share with you now how one organization is breaking barriers for moms who run.
00:55:12In 2014, an eight-months-pregnant Olympic bronze medalist Alicia Montanio ran the 800-meter at the U.S. Championships in Sacramento.
00:55:23I essentially was told that I had to choose between my career or my motherhood.
00:55:29And I knew that if I stepped on that start line on that day, that I would be running a race that was going to be getting all mothers to the finish line.
00:55:39That race started her on a path to create For All Mothers, a nonprofit tackling some of the issues female athletes face.
00:55:48Lack of infrastructure for affordable child care, access to safe and reliable lactation accommodations,
00:55:54and even things like maternity protections within my contract that would allow me to have my child and come back into my career with financial security.
00:56:03These difficulties impacting so many, like Allison Felix, the most decorated track and field Olympian of all time, who is now a For All Mothers board member.
00:56:13My desire is just for them to be able to have the choice. If they choose parenthood, they'll be supported throughout.
00:56:18The organization setting up family care spaces at races and giving child care grants to runners.
00:56:25Before having my daughter, I didn't think at all about having to pump or breastfeed on the course.
00:56:29The services making all the difference for Amanda Erevich, getting support from For All Mothers while running the New York and Los Angeles marathons.
00:56:38It's these little things that really matter, and they make the race experience even better.
00:56:42I was able to actually just enjoy myself and have fun.
00:56:44I think what's amazing is you're not only impacting the mothers, you are impacting our children as well.
00:56:51You know, you are allowing us as mothers to be more than just a mother.
00:56:55We're able to be an athlete. We're able to chase our dreams, our goals.
00:56:59And I think by doing that, you're also setting such a great example for our children.
00:57:08Awesome. And joining us right now, Alicia Montano, founder of For All Mothers, founder of For All Mothers,
00:57:16and Amanda Erevich, both mom and GMA 5K finisher!
00:57:20You did it, girl! How do you feel?
00:57:24I feel amazing. We've got a shower out there.
00:57:26Yes, you did. You're welcome.
00:57:28Mother Nature did it for all of us.
00:57:30Hey, I want to start with Alicia, because we consulted with you before we undertook this task.
00:57:37And one of the things we had was a lactation station on the way.
00:57:41And thank you for sharing the importance of that.
00:57:44Tell us about some of the other things that you consider for mom runners.
00:57:46Yes, well, mom runners, moms in general in society have so many barriers that are up against them.
00:57:52One of the biggest things that we aim to break down is the motherhood penalty,
00:57:55which is all of the biases and the barriers that exist.
00:57:57So we want to identify them, and we also want to implement solutions to help solve them.
00:58:01So things like lactation accommodations and child care are amongst the top of that,
00:58:06including maternity protections, things like, you know, making sure that they're protected in their pregnancy and in their postpartum.
00:58:10And a big part for mothers is making sure that we take care of their health mentally and both physically.
00:58:16So giving them opportunities to strive for more.
00:58:19We're so excited that we had an opportunity from our partner Strava that gave us $300,000 towards research
00:58:25that we knew these barriers that we needed to break down.
00:58:28Awesome.
00:58:29Yeah, that's awesome what you are doing, everything that you are doing.
00:58:32And Amanda, a 5K, you've won marathons.
00:58:34You've lost count how many marathons you've run.
00:58:36So how has this organization supported you?
00:58:39It's been absolutely amazing.
00:58:40When I first started my postpartum journey of coming back to running,
00:58:44I did a lot of 5Ks where I, like, took my pump with me because, you know, it might be a 5K, but I'm traveling there.
00:58:49So all of that time, I take that into consideration.
00:58:52You have to think about how many times you need to pump the whole time you're out.
00:58:55So I've pumped on, like, benches.
00:58:57I've pumped on the starting line.
00:58:58Knowing that there's lactation stations makes such a difference.
00:59:01It's just one less thing a mother has to think about, and they can actually go pursue their goals.
00:59:05Awesome.
00:59:05All right.
00:59:06So Alicia, you have a little surprise this morning.
00:59:09Something that will make for all moms, for all mothers, even better.
00:59:13Yes, that's right.
00:59:14I do have a wonderful surprise.
00:59:16With the $300,000 grant that Strava gave us, their Stripe for More grant,
00:59:21has given us an opportunity to give $100,000 to 50 moms towards child care so they can get out there.
00:59:29Wow.
00:59:31And isn't Amanda one of the recipients?
00:59:36And Amanda is one of the recipients.
00:59:38So she's getting it.
00:59:39So she's getting it.
00:59:39How will that help you?
00:59:45How will that help you?
00:59:46Right now, my daughter can only go to daycare two days a week.
00:59:49So when I'm going to rugby or I'm trying to train for a marathon, like, I have to incorporate
00:59:54that into the day she's going to daycare and the day my husband can watch her.
00:59:58So this makes all the difference.
01:00:00I can actually train for the New York City Marathon.
01:00:01Oh, yes!
01:00:02That's wonderful.
01:00:04Yes.
01:00:05$2,000.
01:00:07Congratulations.
01:00:08Good luck on your training.
01:00:10And thank you, Alicia.
01:00:13Thank you for sharing that big surprise with us on GMA.
01:00:15Thank you again to all of our Runners.
01:00:18Right over to Runner Ginger.
01:00:22I'm here, Lara, with some wonderful dads.
01:00:26Yes, from incredible moms to the best dads ever because Father's Day.
01:00:29Woo!
01:00:30It is just one month away, and this segment is sponsored by Duluth Trading Company.
01:00:35So they are the place to go when you're searching for the best Father's Day gifts, you know?
01:00:39All of the different gifts.
01:00:41The looks that every dad needs to go camping, pick some cars, maybe just go to the park with
01:00:44the kids because that's like more of my husband's stuff.
01:00:46Yeah.
01:00:47Yeah, that's like what he does.
01:00:48Duluth is celebrating runners this morning by handing out their signature trucker hat.
01:00:53You see it right there.
01:00:54Yep.
01:00:55Handing those out right now, but we've got something extra special.
01:00:58So a big surprise for some of these dads who took that special 5K with us this morning.
01:01:03You ready?
01:01:04Yeah.
01:01:04Ray has $200 gift cards for all of you.
01:01:08Oh, yeah.
01:01:09Duluth has given you.
01:01:12I want you all to enjoy.
01:01:15Get yourself something fun for Father's Day, and thank you so much to our sponsor, Duluth Trading
01:01:20Company, for helping us celebrate these dads.
01:01:22Yes, get to shopping, guys.
01:01:24Soaking in the shopping.
01:01:26And soaking in the rain.
01:01:27The GMA 5K with the finisher celebrating here on Governor's Island, and Strava coach
01:01:33Lauren Fleschman is here.
01:01:35Welcome.
01:01:36Thank you so much.
01:01:37Oh, thank you.
01:01:37Do you put together, what, like a six-week program to get the runners ready?
01:01:40What did that entail?
01:01:41Yeah, well, you did the job of lighting the spark in people, and my job was to take that
01:01:45spark and make it into a flame and get them all the way to the starting line.
01:01:47So I created a training plan that spanned experience levels for six weeks and then kept them motivated
01:01:52week by week.
01:01:53And how did it vary, the training program?
01:01:55Oh, well, I had an intermediate plan that could be adapted based on people's experience
01:01:58level, and then a walk-to-run plan.
01:02:00For people that were getting started, I really want to bring more people into the sport to
01:02:03have a positive experience.
01:02:04And you've seen how we've had walkers around the country, too.
01:02:07It's not just running, jogging.
01:02:08It's like run your own race, walk your own race, whatever it takes.
01:02:11But are you proud?
01:02:12I am so proud.
01:02:13How'd it go?
01:02:19Great job to you.
01:02:20Oh, well, thank you very much.
01:02:21And we had so many people that helped bring this all together.
01:02:23So many people.
01:02:24And by the way, thank you.
01:02:25Yeah, you did.
01:02:26It's a privilege.
01:02:27It's been a wet blast.
01:02:29And it really did take a village.
01:02:31We want to thank all of the vendors.
01:02:33Thank you, vendors.
01:02:34You guys graciously donated to our COVID-19 race this morning.
01:02:40A clear alternative.
01:02:42They kept the athletes hydrated.
01:02:46Black alone.
01:02:47A little bit of caffeine never hurts.
01:02:50We had Chobani yogurt drinks.
01:02:53Thank you, Lori B.
01:02:54Great protein for our runners.
01:02:57Kind bars.
01:02:58Always get it done.
01:02:59They've got protein bars.
01:03:01Thank you, Kind.
01:03:02You're so kind.
01:03:03Yeah, yeah.
01:03:03Because, Lauren, it's very important.
01:03:06Nutrition and all those go into it.
01:03:08Yeah, you've got to take care of your body.
01:03:09And that's one of the things that's really great about signing up for a 5K.
01:03:12People find enhanced motivation to take better care of themselves.
01:03:15Yes.
01:03:16Gives you something.
01:03:17You just remember that, you know, your body matters.
01:03:19Take care of yourself.
01:03:20Yeah, I love that.
01:03:21And we have these two over here.
01:03:22We've got the protein bars.
01:03:24This is their job today.
01:03:26They were having an outdoor team.
01:03:26Take care of your water, boys.
01:03:28But, hey, guys, how did you find the runners that you came into contact with?
01:03:32Spirit was incredible.
01:03:34It is not nice weather, if you haven't noticed.
01:03:36And yet you wouldn't know it with all these people here.
01:03:38They were so happy.
01:03:39Brought the sunshine.
01:03:40Well, the woman who just came up to us and said, it feels like a sunny day.
01:03:43Shout out to Donna.
01:03:44She was Donna.
01:03:45We love Donna.
01:03:46We just took selfies and, like, handed out stuff.
01:03:48I want to say shout out to Mush.
01:03:51Yeah.
01:03:51Those bars were a big, big hit this morning.
01:03:54So we want to make sure that we give.
01:03:55And everyone, it's home and home.
01:03:57The finishers are all getting medals.
01:03:59Yeah.
01:04:00The medals.
01:04:01And by the team at Stride Awards.
01:04:04So we thank the team at Stride Awards.
01:04:05And T-shirts.
01:04:06Okay.
01:04:07And they're from Henderson Promotions.
01:04:09Yep.
01:04:09So we have, I mean, I think we, did we cover everything, guys?
01:04:12Did you feel well taken care of?
01:04:14I think we did it all.
01:04:16We did it all.
01:04:16All right.
01:04:17We got the 502s.
01:04:18We got some, we got a party inside.
01:04:20Yeah.
01:04:20This is not over yet.
01:04:21But first thing, we need to get back to Ginger for one more look at the weather.
01:04:25In case you didn't know.
01:04:27And, Lara, we're actually not going to do weather because we've had enough of weather this morning.
01:04:31Instead, we got to talk about how it is so important that athletes of all abilities feel comfortable when they're out there on the course.
01:04:39And that is where Achilles International comes in.
01:04:41They're director for the New York City Metro region, Francesco Magisano, and president and CEO, Emily Glasser, joining us.
01:04:48I know you just both did the 5PA together.
01:04:50Francesco, tell me how important it is to have an organization like Achilles to give opportunity to everyone to be able to race these courses.
01:04:58Oh, yeah.
01:04:58It's super important.
01:05:00I mean, it's special for me, right, having a disability, being blind, to have the opportunity to move and just be healthy.
01:05:06And thanks to Achilles, we're able to do that for thousands of people with disabilities around New York City and around the country.
01:05:11And both of you rocked it.
01:05:13I know we all said we weren't going for time, but boy, did we have fun.
01:05:16We had a great time.
01:05:17We had a great time.
01:05:17And it's just it's such a treat to run with Frannie and all of our athletes.
01:05:22You know, together, we're building the world we want to live in at Achilles International.
01:05:25And that is so important to see athletes like Frannie out there on the course and support everyone's participation in this great sport of running.
01:05:33Well, congrats to both of you.
01:05:34And thank you so much.
01:05:35Make sure you guys check out Achilles.
01:05:37Congratulations.
01:05:38AchillesInternational.org.
01:05:38You got it.
01:05:39Coming up, the 502s are rocking out for the GMA 5K.
01:05:43Take it away.
01:05:47We welcome you back to the GMA 5K After Party.
01:06:11Yes, we got to have some live music.
01:06:20So right now, performing their hit song, just a little while.
01:06:23Give it up for the 502.
01:06:25Woo!
01:06:25Woo!
01:06:34Woo!
01:06:43Late nights in a while, town.
01:06:45We go around, walking around, holding your hair, my hair.

01:07:32You wore your shades inside
01:07:34I couldn't stop laying there
01:07:36You pulled all night
01:07:38And I did drink from your hand
01:07:40Off the floor
01:07:41And it rained a bit rain
01:07:43And you hid behind the door
01:07:45You look up at me
01:07:47From your bed seat
01:07:50With that same old friend
01:07:52And I said wait just a little while
01:07:55And tell me where you've been
01:07:56I've been staying up and out
01:07:58Thinking about it
01:08:00And it's been so long
01:08:02That I've been feeling like this
01:08:04And I know that I've never been more strong
01:08:07Tell me what you want
01:08:27Tell me what you really want
01:08:28Tell me what you mean
01:08:29What you want to believe
01:08:30I got the soul
01:08:31You got to know
01:08:32That together we can't everything
01:08:34Back to town for a sin
01:08:36My love was gone
01:08:37My life was in
01:08:38Then you walked in
01:08:40I said wait just a little while
01:08:43And tell me where you've been
01:08:45I've been staying up and out
01:08:47Thinking about it
01:08:48It's been so long
01:08:50That I've been feeling like this
01:08:52And I know that I've never been more strong
01:08:56What a special morning
