00:00Hello and welcome to another edition of Look Around London. Today, we are in the neighbourhood
00:08of Fitzrovia. Tucked between London's West End and the academic heart of Bloomsbury, Fitzrovia
00:14is a central London neighbourhood with a rich, layered history. Once known as a Bohemian
00:19Enclave, Fitzrovia got its name in the 1930s from the Fitzroy Tavern, a popular haunt of
00:26writers and artists like George Orwell and Dylan Thomas. Historically, it was a mixed
00:31area of workshops, small industry and modest housing. In the 18th and 19th centuries, it
00:37developed as a residential district for the middle class. Today, Fitzrovia balances old
00:42and new. Georgian townhouses sit beside media offices. Despite gentrification, traces of
00:47its bohemian past remain in its independent shops, hidden pubs and cultural landmarks.
