00:01:07it's just general helmet chat I'm debuting a new helmet a nice chrome one he goes once you go chrome you never go back so yeah we're covering off the big issues
00:01:15mate I've got to ask you you've obviously qualified on pole for the next one but P14 for this one so we don't get that can you explain
00:01:24um basically we you know got held up in that you know the last part of the first qualifying you didn't get to do a second lap and you know that was pretty important for us you know we we did one in the first got a good time a reasonable time in the first part but when it mattered we didn't do a time good enough because we didn't get that second lap so that's in the past we got polled for the next one so that's the main thing

00:02:05but the important thing is your championship contender Mark Winterbottom P17 this really is a fantastic opportunity to make up crucial points
00:02:14well it is around I think that you know we had a bad Sunday at Darwin we know how quickly it can change so
00:02:19to be honest we sort of we've been up and down a little bit this weekend with the car set up and getting it right for this track
00:02:25very easy to make a mistake and lose a lot of time but I'm actually quite thankful for where we qualified
00:02:29and we've saved some tyres for tomorrow and again I know what happened on Darwin so
00:02:34very mindful of getting some like get points and maximizing where we are at the moment

00:04:00thanks mate Mark Witterbottom now I can't remember mate all the times I've been coming down here to have a chat to you
00:04:05I've never had to walk this far back that I can recall no mechanical problems no dramas with the car
00:04:09just not fast enough set up's not right
00:04:11yeah it's uh it's not ideal I tell you that much but um it is what it is you know you you've got such a
00:04:17competitive category and when you get it right you look great but when it's slightly off um you know
00:04:22two tenths I'd be about 15 spots further forward so it is what it is you um have to try and charge on
00:04:28now and try and fix it so let me ask you mate if you just look down you can see the yellow Dunlop
00:04:32Sport Max there that means hard tyres the whole field's got them for all the races so it's hard to put a
00:04:36strategy option in here mate isn't it to try and recover in a shorter race what do you do
00:04:41yeah um yeah you can't really strategize because tomorrow you've got to use uh the best of what
00:04:46you finish with today so if you go too long uh you've got to then use that tyre so it's going
00:04:51to hurt you somewhere I'm hoping that tomorrow I can qualify better than where I am today and then
00:04:56um you know try and get through tomorrow but um you still got to make the most points and do the
00:05:00best you can we'll pit when we think it's right and uh hopefully we've got enough speed in the
00:05:04race to come through but off quality we're genuinely 17 so you can't re-strategize something
00:05:09when you're not quick enough so uh we'll try see where we end up well as you know mate there's a
00:05:13big blue army out there that are right behind you me included so best of luck thanks mate cheers

00:05:21this looks pretty good yeah no it's great for the team awesome result uh you know it's a shame the
00:05:26second one didn't go the same I made a mistake on my lap which cost us a bit but uh the car's coming
00:05:31on really well mate the sun's shining I'm racing the car for a living there's not too much to be
00:05:35upset about can you get away from GT at the start yeah it's a drag race between the two of us so uh
00:05:40we've been eyeing each other off in the garage but uh no it's going to be a great love just got to
00:05:45keep our heads straight and and um bring good result home for the team mate excellent all the
00:05:49best actually we might just quickly duck over and see if we can catch up with Garth Tander just as
00:05:53he's getting set here and the tension is building on the grid it's a great time to be out here but
00:05:57uh GT we just duck in there very quickly uh just had a chat to James Courtney beside you he's getting
00:06:02set for the drag race up to turn one how are you feeling about that as long as he's happy with the
00:06:06drag race to be second at turn one it'll be fine but um yeah obviously um yeah it's good to have
00:06:11both cars on the front row the team's done an awesome job with the car this weekend certainly
00:06:15made a big step forward in Darwin and we've carried that through to here so um yeah look not going
00:06:19to do anything silly between James and I we just need to get make sure we file in however it gets a
00:06:23better start and then just let the race play out how much of a boost is this sort of result for
00:06:28your team oh look it's good I mean for me personally it's great to be up here JC's been up here for a
00:06:33little bit this year but um for me it's great to be up here didn't quite get it right in quality too
00:06:37so for the next one we're a little bit further back but the car's strong so um you know we
00:06:41traditionally had a pretty good race car so uh that the weakness has been starting close to the
00:06:45front so we fixed that for this one so there we go have a great time out there mate good luck

00:06:55around here near your car a lot of them have cleared to go and sit in the shade you've obviously got
00:06:59yourself well hydrated and looked after what have you done for preparation uh well i mean this this
00:07:05round is actually a little bit cooler than Darwin so um we're definitely uh conditioned for the heat
00:07:10but um obviously a lot of water and power rate and uh just keep the fluids up a lot of training in
00:07:16between races and uh hopefully it pays off in this race well you boys are looking pretty strong

00:07:25is one of those situations a bit of a dilemma for yourself championship hunt you need to push hard
00:07:30to get those crucial points but also risk management is important you can't afford for anything to go
00:07:35wrong in this race yeah that's a good call we're gonna we're gonna push on we're gonna be on the attack
00:07:39um p10 not ideal for for both races so um we'll see if we can push through a few but um the key is
00:07:45if we've got good pace we should be able to do that if not uh to be hang on till the end
00:07:50tire degradation there's plenty of talk about this this race last year was on hard and soft tires
00:07:55hard tires only for this one so much different yeah hard tires i think the tire deg um it's going
00:08:00to be slightly higher than usual just that the track slightly gets older each year so um yeah who
00:08:05knows hopefully we're there at the end but um we'll push on hard and see what we can do good
00:08:09luck jamie thank you thanks shane van gisberg and you gave us one of the great finishes in darwin
00:08:14the last time we raced uh you're in a great position here third row of the grid can we see
00:08:19another one of those fantastic finishes yeah i think we're gonna have some good strategy again but uh
00:08:24yeah that darwin race was really cool great way to finish the weekend but uh we have a fast car
00:08:29did we're in the top six both qualifying so let's try and give it a go we'll uh we'll see if we can
00:08:34make it exciting for you again shane you do always do that you do make it exciting when do you start
00:08:38to make your move through these guys as quickly as you can yeah i think so i think we're going to
00:08:42put early like most will just to get the tires out of the way so i'll be pushing from the start and
00:08:47then try and get them at the end as well but uh who knows let's just give it a crack i love the

00:09:02yeah for sure i mean uh two fourth places isn't a bad thing so uh yeah good little spot here just
00:09:07get my start sorted get the driver sorted uh pull himself together we'll be all right it's a tough
00:09:11race this afternoon lots of heat and uh a track degradation is going to be a tough one yeah for
00:09:16sure i mean uh the tough on the rear tires especially around the back the long right handers
00:09:20and stuff like that so uh yeah it has a lot to do with us and how we control it so hopefully we

00:09:28so it's a fantastic scene looking from the chopper down on the racetrack and you can see we've
00:09:34traveled from darwin to townsville the seventh event of the 2014 calendar reed park is the venue
00:09:39street circuit permanent racetrack it's a combo just under three kilometers scobey yeah look it is a
00:09:45fantastic layout neil and it's got a real character about it unlike anywhere else 2.86 k's as you said
00:09:52it's got some fast sections 255 kilometers an hour down the main straight and the main straight
00:09:56has got a kink in it which actually is called turn one into pretty lively turn two there's always
00:10:02action there hard on brakes certainly very hard on suspension it's pretty tough on the shock
00:10:07absorbers they climb over a lot of curbs here and there's potential for damage in that area
00:10:11medium to high tire wear it's gone up a little bit year on year but only relatively small percentage
00:10:16couple of other interesting facts just to throw in here jason bright who's qualified well he's
00:10:21actually in search of his very first podium at this place hasn't happened in the five years
00:10:26previous there he is in the team boc entry on the second row of the grid alongside scott mclaughlin
00:10:30another bit of news from down in the pit paddock that i discovered before teammate to this man on
00:10:34screen mark winterbottom chas mostard had a little problem that engine was shutting itself down in
00:10:39qualifying earlier they had to change the engine control unit or the ecu in the car and had to go
00:10:44through the wiring in that vehicle to try and exercise the demons that it's got and get it to make sure it's
00:10:50running right had a little bit of a brake trauma just prior to that qualifying session as well and
00:10:53just to add insult chas's got a bit of a man cold this weekend but i'm sure he'll he won't be worried
00:10:59too much about that when he gets stuck into it here's jamie wincup car number one reigning champion
00:11:03more wins on this circuit than any other driver got the job done beautifully back in 2009 race one the
00:11:11very first win here for triple eight race engineering and it was then team vodafone in a ford falcon lots
00:11:16changed in the game since then different cars holton racing team in form though front row of the grid
00:11:22there's david reynolds botlow racing he's had a pole at this location previously i think a little bit of
00:11:28a struggle at the moment the last race win for him was back on the gold coast last year trying to
00:11:34stabilize form is often a challenge helmet cam jack daniels racing it'll be 300 races for that sponsor
00:11:40for tomorrow for sunday
00:11:50let's have a look at the fuso starting grid at an hrt front row james courtney fantastic job and a season
00:11:56best for garth tander jason bright as we're just looking at the grid a second ago very good job car
00:12:04float very nicely lounge and van gisburg and there'll be some action on row three five and six on the
00:12:10grid tim slade and will davidson great job will davidson to be the first of the aerebus mercedes-benz
00:12:17e63's nick perkard also a great job jamie wick up tenth for walk with your performance cars in the top
00:12:24ten davy reynolds first of the fpr cars michael caruso the first of the nissans chas boston there as we
00:12:31said a little bit crook james moffett we just spoke to him a second ago with fabian coulthard
00:12:37mark winterbottom the series leader way down in 17th position and he's got to be very careful in
00:12:43the early laps of this race not to get caught up in all the drama that comes with street circuit
00:12:49dimensions and the lively start to this race as i said into turn two always a concertina effect there
00:12:56robert dalgren jack perkins and dale wood make up the 25 starters for today's race 20
00:13:07that's your puso starting grid and that is the scene from the chopper looking down towards the
00:13:11eastern end of the racetrack towards the townsville cbd and to the coast and magnetic island off to the
00:13:17east we've seen some beautiful imagery in here one of the nine cars that are carrying cameras for us
00:13:22this weekend this is tim slade super cheap auto racing got heart rate monitors on the boys as
00:13:27well and they'll be working hard on the street circuit like this scotty mclaughlin driving the
00:13:31volvo working brake temperature working tire temperature 155 beats a minute he's trying to
00:13:37get a bit of body temperature as well and some oil pressure in there too he's off to the us on
00:13:41tuesday he's going to new hampshire to see a nascar race next weekend and his girlfriend's parents
00:13:47live in phoenix arizona and then he'll be off to new york to las vegas and having a little bit of a
00:13:51break between now and the next event at queensland raceway nice nice might join him a bit of excess
00:13:57baggage will davison he's had a win here aribus motorsport v8 well let's go down and join barrette
00:14:04hey neil welcome to the best view on the circuit the starters box a privileged position to be for
00:14:08the start of the race now as these guys grid up and particularly our front panel watch the yellow
00:14:13flags of the marshals disappear once the cars are in position in the box the engineers will run off the
00:14:18wall once all the cars are in we'll see the green flag at the back of the grid damien white who is
00:14:23in control here puts up the five second board at that point he hits an ignition key which counts down
00:14:28the last three seconds before the lights go out so the lights go on at five seconds they go out about
00:14:33three later and we are good to go 25 cars moving into position castrol townsville 500 beautiful conditions
00:14:42make no mistake both hrt drivers want to be leading at turn two
00:14:49who's your money on hard one this one different format can't pick it green flag ready
00:14:54wins here for wind cover two for tanda one for courtney one for winter bottom and one for will davison
00:15:01who will win race number 20 of the championship
00:15:08even jump by both the holton racing team entries it'll be the secondary part of the start that
00:15:13determines it still side by side through the first kick tanda on the outside courtney on the inside look at
00:15:21mclaughlin trying to grab third tanda drops in he gets a bump from lounge but wide and to the lead oh
00:15:28problem for tanda and to the lead goes mclaughlin mclaughlin a beautiful opportunistic move down the
00:15:34inside he leads then it's courtney look at bright bright's going to grab second here they went basically
00:15:39into the corner just hit the fence courtney's in the fence the way out of turn three they cost each other
00:15:45of that that was a bump from behind from tanda who pushed courtney out of the lead and back into
00:15:50third spot so trauma for both the holton racing team entries in the first several corners and they've
00:15:56already lost massive position i think courtney's wounded the cars all over the place he made heavy
00:16:02contact with the left rear and we can still see it sliding there and a problem for most at car number
00:16:08six is rotating probably got some help in that process there's a look at look at lounge skates in
00:16:15on the rear brakes it's an absolute traffic nightmare down there oh he's been spun seriously that's one
00:16:23of the wildest first slaps we've seen all the year there was so much contact between the cars
00:16:29otherwise otherwise and they were bumping off turn three bumping off turn right up to turn three
00:16:34lounge has been part of all that and that is a championship defining moment too many people
00:16:40exerting too much aggression on lap one races one at the end not the start this is big damage for
00:16:45lounge over and out sorry about that that's the end of that so it all started wildly down at turn two on
00:16:54lap one and it continued all the way up to turn ten people being pushed shoved rotated
00:17:01out of it and it's still going on there's bits of mirror plastic paint debris everywhere it's
00:17:06mclaughlin bright tander slain van gisbergen wink up davison courtney reynolds perker that's your 10.
00:17:13on the wings throwing the rocks around there is will davison i was really surprised by the aggression
00:17:18of lounge but i was also surprised by the aggression of will davison and the other guys in the field
00:17:23but they're still bumping into each other way out of turn eight now check this out they're teammates
00:17:30look at bright he's all over mclaughlin here at the moment this is a real return to fog for
00:17:36bright i think previous best for him here has been a fifth so this is great form he's got this car
00:17:40working well it's got a little bit of uh the door surround on the passenger's side hanging off at the
00:17:46team boc car i can't believe it the two nissan guys have just done half a lap alongside each other
00:17:51that and just let me check that one for you yeah it's rick kelly and james moffett there
00:17:59craig lounge has finished the last 81 races in a row today that's over and out and was approaching
00:18:05a record that was held by russell ingall so and a lot of people on the radio at the moment even as
00:18:12i'm talking just absolutely blueing about all the pushing and shoving and blaming each other
00:18:18so there's a lot of emotion out there at present there's jack perkins off screen gel went entry in
00:18:22the fourth performance racing car he's got his regular engineer dave patterson with him this
00:18:27weekend paul seprinich did some work with him on that car at the last minute look at the dick johnson
00:18:32racing entries wilson security they're doing their best to carve each other up as well it's teammate
00:18:37versus teammate jack's got a big lock up going barely pulled it up these guys are doing their
00:18:42best to have a shot please just just you can't do that have a look at this replay let's settle the
00:18:54heart rates lucky there's no monitors in here at the moment let's watch the tander on the outside
00:18:59courtney on the inside nice jump by scotty mclaughlin lounge jump to the outside it's on the camera cut
00:19:04when they get down to turn two where it starts to get silly the chopper tells a bit more of the story
00:19:09so tander immediately moves across lounge actually got a pretty fair jump in fact probably one of the
00:19:14better starts of the top half dozen garth tried to go around the outside can't do it and then there
00:19:21was contact down here i think between there was between lounge and tander that started and then
00:19:25tander cannoned into courtney bright squeezed lounge who in turn squeezed tander i need to write all
00:19:32this down and carefully memorize it well tander was an innocent victim there because as lounge went
00:19:36from the outside to move across to the inside he pretty much outbraked himself and caused the drama
00:19:41this is it here now so as he moves it over bang he hits tander he hits courtney and mclaughlin goes
00:19:47to the lead now just back there we're just about to say that all that bumping and grinding between
00:19:53tander on the outside ended up having severe damage check this out this is lounge down the inside of
00:20:00courtney they run each other wide tander then goes by they hit as they do it and then will davison check
00:20:06this out will davison was the guy who was jammed into the back of lounge car as it's sideways bang you're
00:20:15gone you're turned around you're in the fence and it's that secondary part of the hit onto the left rear
00:20:20corner of that car that's done the damage and don't forget there's going to be stops here as well
00:20:24now there's been a position change because tander's climbed over jason bright here so that's the position
00:20:32will davison only teetering barely able to stop down the inside he got it done i wasn't sure about that
00:20:37one and uh into the lane comes uh winter bottom yeah guys just quickly i've got my head stuck
00:20:43underneath craig lounge's car here you can see they're changing what's called the rear tolling it's only
00:20:47about a three or four minute job taking a little bit longer a little bit of finger trouble here
00:20:51and uh there's winter bottom who's that winter bottom just him behind me there but uh he will get
00:20:55back out chasing some points yes they've got their little bit of fuel away and uh james moffett
00:21:00was the other car that you can see there the norton hornet the nissan entry so james courtney
00:21:05has fared poorly off the front row he's gone back to eighth and i'm amazed by the amount of contact
00:21:12the calf tander's car has had that he's still in the hunt so still this battle rages between bright
00:21:18and tander and it's not going away because van gisbergen has moved onto the back
00:21:24and they've had some pretty spike battles those two both bright and tander and
00:21:27oh more contact than around there's tander what a shame what a scrappy start to this race
00:21:39well that that was bright but he moved over to cover van gisbergen so when you look at it he
00:21:44moved over there so he's done that then he got to bump himself so he's already going too fast
00:21:49he can't do anything about it so when he's been bumped he's arrowed into the back of tander and spun him
00:21:54seriously i've i've not seen a wilder couple of laps for a long time so everybody coming in now
00:22:01getting this first stop out of the way this is remarkable stuff there's nothing wrong with it but
00:22:07gee whiz depending on your viewpoint whether you're a server or a survey you can have a slightly varied view
00:22:14on it i was about to say jason barguana the driving standards observer he's gonna forget about
00:22:23having dinner tonight we'll have to get some takeaway for him
00:22:29how about the teammates nissan teammates forward teammates of djr meantime scott mclaughlin volvo
00:22:37is the leader 2.8 seconds over jason bright shane van gisbergen is third jamie winkup is next then tim
00:22:44slade then it's reynolds tander rick kelly lee holdsworth and tom kelly that's for 10 already about
00:22:51about a third of the field is pitted
00:23:00and the friction continues here for the battle second place we're looking out of jason bright
00:23:05shane van gisbergen because up the road you saw a glimpse then of the volvo disappearing he's got a
00:23:103.9 second margin scott mclaughlin but these two are still at it bright and van gisbergen second and
00:23:16third then tim slade who's been due for a result in fourth then david reynolds is next in the queue
00:23:21and van gisbergen looking very very strong at the moment as we look over the left shoulder of slade
00:23:27turn three
00:23:31so it's been a question of trying to keep up with all the antics in the opening lap that first
00:23:36half a lap lap one was just bizarre and then a lot of events that involve knock-ons and as a result of
00:23:43that the the contact between cars 28 and 97 tander bright and van gisbergen is under investigation
00:23:50the incident we saw at turn 13. watch van gisbergen here because he's trying to force a hole
00:23:55he's pushing super hard he'll have a go down here you'll stand it on its nose but bright's got in
00:23:59there very deep and manages to hang on just it's good driving but jason bright then he didn't block
00:24:05he just break the car as deep as he could possibly block and then by the time he actually got the car
00:24:10turn he didn't need to be across on the inside he was actually out on the race line so that blocking
00:24:16it costs you time and it effectively allows the other guy to just keep on the back of you and
00:24:23keep harassing you which van gisbergen is very very good at so van gisbergen now shaping up again
00:24:30at turn two this was where all the drama unfolded at the start of the race three or four abreast bumping
00:24:38into each other running each other into the fence i think you'll find also that some cars are carrying
00:24:43little wounds here so at the moment for example bright's clearly got a bit of pressure on him not
00:24:48only from van gisbergen but i reckon he's got something going on with the car he's not quite
00:24:52lapping at the rhythm that you might expect that's allowing slade and reynolds to get in the game
00:24:58and it's also allowed mclaughlin to disappear for battle because he's five and a half seconds in front
00:25:03look at the front of rick kelly's car in the background here as well the jack daniels car
00:25:07looks got a fair whack on the snout car number 15 behind this group our team red bull have had their
00:25:12hands full marked up and just working on getting craig lounge out at the moment they're just about to
00:25:17get him going by the look of a bit of discussion going on i might just try and get a quick word with
00:25:21mark dutton sorted out craig's problem mark yeah yeah so there was some rear damage uh that's why i had
00:25:26the latest spin so in the first few laps when everyone was hitting each other sustained some damage three
00:25:32seconds field boys sorry i'm talking to them as well yeah so um he yeah he was sort of helped with
00:25:37his spin later on so he didn't do it all on his own so we've got it out just in time to uh do enough
00:25:43race laps to be counted as finishing you're a busy man we'll let you go thanks cheers mate
00:25:49so well done barrettes because he can't afford to go one more lap down he's got to do 33 laps
00:25:53to be classified as a finisher so if he goes one more lap down he won't be a finisher won't
00:25:58kick those points slade and reynolds in for their compulsory stop meantime garth panda is
00:26:03the midfield's done the fastest lap of the race there's lounge all tight between slade and reynolds
00:26:09they resolve it by a whisker blue stationary flag being shown there just warning them of the oncoming

00:26:30the front or the grid that first couple of laps that was just absolutely wild stuff uh yeah didn't
00:26:35go to plan did it there's some average driving uh one bloke managed to take both of them out but uh
00:26:40yeah but we'll see what happens long race long weekend we've got the pace we'll let the stewards do
00:26:44their job now and they can adjudicate fair driving and unfair driving but yeah look head down we've got
00:26:50we've got four cars they're all still in the hunt so we'll fight another day there's 25 blokes out there
00:26:55four are yours what's the one bloke pardon there's 25 out there four of them are yours who's the one

00:27:08thanks adrian yeah and we were looking at garth panda when the interview was taking place he had a
00:27:13very big lock up on the inside front uh that was heading into i think turn five there before scape
00:27:18he'd probably put him so they've sent him back out there there's clearly been another issue and
00:27:24lounge is in the tire barrier and potentially going nowhere that is quite a heavy incident because it's
00:27:32a long way into those tires they should be able to get out there adrian burgess was actually referring
00:27:38to craig lounge yeah so that i think is down at turn eight so we'll just uh we'll get a shot of that
00:27:50and responding at valvoline racing so in comes the volvo scott mclaughlin takes the opportunity 5.4
00:27:57second margin he had over van gisbergen and uh gizzy goes with him and so does jason bright no surprise
00:28:13so it's just a little squirt of fuel here rattled some rubber on they're just doing rears only
00:28:17and here's the man that's been doing the chasing van gisbergen he's looked pretty speedy and there's
00:28:27bright in the background
00:28:30a bit of trouble just getting that right rear past the guard then
00:28:35some damage on the left rear corner of shade's car
00:28:39he just got out in front of rick then rick's got pace this is good yeah so he's in this
00:28:44and he was the fastest car a couple of laps ago he actually did the fastest lap of the race at that
00:28:50time a 15.16 this is loud sorry it wasn't turn eight this is turn five he went to turn left and
00:28:56he's gone straight in that's very fast the approach to that corner is around 185 kilometers an hour now
00:29:03he may not have been going quite that fast but it's at least 170k so they're under the control of
00:29:10the petters chrysler safety car lowndes is in the barrier at five wind cup his teammate is the leader
00:29:22back in townsville petters chrysler safety cars grab the field craig lowndes is the reason he went off
00:29:28at turn five after he came back out of the pits they were responding to a lot of damage on that car
00:29:35because he was turned around early in the race he had contact with will davison and went off at turn
00:29:4012 and the left rear corner of the car had a big whack here's the replay of what happened at five
00:29:44there's already left rear tire smoke tire rubbing on the guard something's failed hasn't turned at
00:29:49all even though he wasn't fully up to speed it's still terribly quick there at normal speed it's 185
00:29:56kilometers an hour on the approach craig is still in the car they've got him on the flatbed truck there
00:30:02and the big question now will be turning this car around listen to this
00:30:12that's getting it repaired turning it around and getting it out for the next one
00:30:15the mitigating factor here will be that this race counts for less in terms of points because it's a
00:30:20dual race combination this afternoon 75 points for a win tomorrow it's 150 for a win
00:30:26so that's a little let off but there's not much time for red bull racing australia to recover
00:30:32restart time win cup is your leader then it's mclaughlin davison tander everybody's done their
00:30:40compulsory stop they've grabbed their little bit of fuel most of them have grabbed a couple of tires
00:30:45and this is a cleansed field it's quite mixed up it's hold volvo
00:30:50aerebus motorsport hold another hold and if you missed the early part of the coverage
00:31:00man there was some stuff going on on lap one
00:31:02louds got into the back of tander tander got into the back of courtney
00:31:07most that was
00:31:08spun halfway through the first lap and then later in the lap will davison and craig lowndes got
00:31:15together after lowndes took a dive down the inside at turn 11 that didn't really work
00:31:23you know the extraordinary thing out of this lounge qualified the highest of all the
00:31:28championship contenders at the moment he qualified fifth we said mark winnerbottom's in trouble
00:31:32jamie wink comes down in tenth lounge has had all that drama unfold now in championship
00:31:38land mark winnerbottom's 144 points in front of jamie wink come who's moved to second and craig
00:31:45lowndes drops back to third 50 points arrears of wink up sometimes it's just the way that it unfolds
00:31:52there it is confirmed for you on screen but there appear to be just massive amounts of aggression
00:31:59in the early part of this race and uh it was up and down the field in a lot of areas
00:32:04and probably what helps to trigger this is that everybody knows that you've actually got to work
00:32:10really really hard to be able to get track position early on and if you can't you're going to pay hard
00:32:16for the rest of the day it's caddell courtney james is a little boy hi mate
00:32:23she's very cute and his dad's sixth at the moment i had a brain freeze this morning because uh
00:32:30he's wearing the state of origin colors on the whole racing team cars look at the damage on the
00:32:34front of rick kelly's car there i referred to that earlier and he's got different color overalls
00:32:38we took a shot on board and went that's james's helmet but not james's suit took a while to resolve
00:32:41that one so i had to go down to the pits before just inside it for myself and get myself back in
00:32:46balance and a shout out to jaz ingle russell ingle's daughter who's 10 today congratulations darling
00:32:55just got it stopped i thought for sure there was going to be contact there and jack perkins
00:33:00bounces off the tire wall on the left hand side but he might have more drama than this as dahlgren
00:33:04comes up alongside as tim edwards looking on and they have a little bump so dahlgren bumps perkins and
00:33:10then ingle goes down the inside and grabs both of them and he caught the scratch on the way too so more
00:33:15paint exchanging going on into the final corner and again another mix-up of positions here
00:33:21it's a 0.7 second margin for wind cup over mclaughlin and then it's will davis and garth
00:33:25tander nick percat james courtney van gisberg and slade reynolds and caruso there's that damage on the
00:33:31nissan looks bad won't really have any detrimental effect on handling you're going to keep a bit of an eye
00:33:38on cooling and the other issue there is that often it makes it a little difficult to cite the corners like
00:33:44right here at turn five you just can't see the apex when the bonnet's folded up like that
00:33:49yeah that'd be the biggest problem for sure especially with the new generation cars you sit
00:33:52a long way back up to the center so with that bonnet raised up like that for sure the left-hand front
00:33:58curving and anywhere where you're close to a fence you have to be very careful there with a clearance
00:34:04lucker yeah just want to have a quick word with timmy edwards um i mean from a championship point
00:34:08of view with lounge uh out that's uh probably not a bad thing for you but really you haven't really
00:34:13with with mark winterbottom capitalized he's still running around in 12th wing cup up front
00:34:18look yeah we're not really worried about what's happened to lands you know we haven't got good
00:34:21enough pace at the moment so you know we've got some work to do unfortunately when you're stuck in
00:34:25traffic you know i don't think you get to see our true race pace because i think we have got a
00:34:29better race car than a than a qualifying car at the moment but you know at the end of the day you
00:34:33know we've got to qualify better we're going to make it hard for ourselves if we don't tim and i have just
00:34:36briefly i saw you at the computer here looks like you're about to fire something into the stewards
00:34:40or not you got a concern oh no no just that uh when rick exited the pit lane um on the safety car
00:34:46um frosty reckons they got to the safety car line he was ahead of car 15 um at the safety car line
00:34:51all right thanks for the heads up look at this exchange going on here for 10th at the moment
00:34:56between michael caruso on the outside of jason bright oh another little paint exchange falls in
00:35:02favor of jason bright but both of them were nearly out of road on a couple of occasions there
00:35:06bright emerges on top so for the time being he's grabbed 10th
00:35:14we're riding with frosty whose pace is not bad but traffic is the issue although he's not that
00:35:19close to the back of caruso at the moment that it should be effective last lap for him was a one
00:35:22minute 15.4 he's about half a second away from the peak pace being set by jamie winkup at the moment
00:35:29and basically all the guys in front of them neil are doing the same speed give you some lap times
00:35:35in a second so winkup was the fastest the 14.9 15 for mclaughlin 15.2 15 dead 15.3 15.2
00:35:45so all the guys through to courtney and that's garth tander for position three down the inside of
00:35:52davison all the way down to courtney who's six they're basically doing the same lap speed so
00:35:57good battle at the front end of this field well craigland's car is at the back of the pitch just
00:36:02coming off the flat top at the moment and uh his engineer jeremy moore is here jeremy what do you uh what
00:36:07do you make of all this what can you piece together uh the moment not really a whole lot with
00:36:11something obviously uh broke or let go to uh make him not make the corner and uh we've ended up a lot
00:36:15more damage than uh what should have been um it's a shame we are looking like a good run there uh our
00:36:20championship contenders behind us and we're looking like we'll get some decent points but it wasn't to
00:36:23be um i think it's we're going to fight against time to beat the uh the get the car ready for the next
00:36:28race i think it's a bit of a struggle i think we're out for today and a big hit from the championship i
00:36:33think so um we've just got to try to make amends tomorrow and do the best we can from here on in
00:36:38big job mate all the best thanks mate significant bruising on that car isn't there i mean the panel
00:36:43works one thing but it's just a question of what is going on with the tube work underneath the car
00:36:48and uh just how much structural work they're going to have to do here it is this is the reason why turn
00:36:53five in the marbles car wouldn't turn for some reason we'll find out why a bit later but he's gone in
00:36:57pretty quickly now it wasn't at full speed because the left rear tire was already rubbing really hard on that
00:37:02guard but i venture to say that craig was still doing the best part of 160 on kilometers an hour
00:37:07when he's fired in there jamie wincup is the man in control he's got a half second margin scotty
00:37:13mclaughlin has actually closed that gap ever so slightly
00:37:24it's a beautiful day in townsville as you can see check out that view that's magnetic island just to
00:37:30the east of the townsville cbd what a race it's lap 22 of 44 race 20 of the v8 supercars championship
00:37:38and this is the replay of the start lounges got into tanda tanda got into courtney here's the replay
00:37:46bang bang bang skiddle the field and out the other side pop scott mclaughlin but the nonsense didn't
00:37:52stop the pushing and shoving continued all the way through the first lap there was a lot of stuff going
00:37:56on up and down the field jason bright was mixed in here with james courtney courtney clobbered the
00:38:02wall i think that actually hurt the car at one point caught ah that's the reason why the jack
00:38:07daniels car's got all that bonnet damage so chas molstett was rotated there rick kelly was the one
00:38:12that had a lot of damage on his car lounge tried to make a move down the inside of courtney that didn't
00:38:16work here it is again in replay and then as they got further around the corner to turn 12 will davison and
00:38:24craig lounge get together and this is what happens craig goes around a little touch the front was no
00:38:30big deal but the secondary part of that impact did a lot of damage to that car they put him into the
00:38:34garage they returned it because they needed to get him classified and out there van gisberg at me
00:38:39time hits bright bright hits tanda tanda does a 180 adrian burgess has got plenty to say about it
00:38:46and then they sent craig back out the car still obviously carrying a bruise and then he couldn't get
00:38:52it turned at five it's gone straight into the wall whacked that tire barrier and done substantial
00:38:57damage and a huge question now as to whether or not they get it out for race 21 this afternoon
00:39:01meant you to say that it might be game over for them and we won't see that red bull racing
00:39:06australia corridor until tomorrow we'll follow that story for you through the afternoon a lot of lounge
00:39:11fans out there meantime half a second that's what it looks like gap first to second and you can see the
00:39:17green boxes they tell a story because mclaughlin's racing balance is obviously good with that car as
00:39:23the race is progressing in the last several laps he just keeps on clawing back millimeters to win cup
00:39:29tanda's making progress we saw him get by davison a bit earlier and at the moment it's a season best
00:39:34fifth for nick percat but boy has he got some pressure he's got former champion james courtney and a
00:39:39teammate right behind him and shane van gisbergen who's been performing beautifully in the last few
00:39:44races with the sort of pressure driving that we've seen from him so nick's got his hands full in
00:39:49these next few laps he has and that's been a very good drive by nick percat today this is this mad helmet
00:39:56cam of rick kelly's we were able to clear up that damage you can see there that's the left hand front
00:40:02bonnet that's peeled up and i heard tim shankin say over the radio a second ago to check that out they've
00:40:10had a really good look at it and it's apparently secured okay so the officials are going to let them
00:40:18go van gisbergen saying he's got no rear tires i've got no drive at all car number 97 vip pet foods from
00:40:25seventh position he's sandwiched between courtney and slave we're riding with rick kelly he's 13th at
00:40:29the moment so that replay that we saw in the highlights there tells the story and i didn't see
00:40:34who it was who checked everybody up but most it was a bit of a victim someone was stumbling in front
00:40:39of him and then rick went into the back of mostert that's what did that damage yeah yeah i need to
00:40:44learn shorthand because there was that much going on the first lap i was trying to keep it all under
00:40:48control trying to manage the paperwork right yeah so rick on screen at the moment is 13 seconds off
00:40:56the lead of the race we've had a petters chrysler safety car intervention to recover craig lounge this
00:41:01is down at turn 11 now for uh rick first gear down there to launch that car back out he uses first
00:41:08again at this final corner at turn 13 it's a beautiful little race track this one it's just
00:41:1360 kilometers an hour here punches out the other side then it's a short shift to second manages the
00:41:18wheel spin here's the race leader that margin continues to stay very tight guys in the red bull
00:41:25transporter craig lounge is back just been medically checked out let's start with that you okay yeah yeah
00:41:29fine i couldn't find anything which is normal um that was tough i mean that was that was a big impact what
00:41:35happened you know uh well after the first impact when we when we tagged the wall coming in a pit
00:41:39entry um it obviously bent the steering but also bent the rear the guys had done a great job getting
00:41:43me back out jj was on the radio saying we've got a lap in our in grace to try and keep get some points
00:41:48back and we'll get some points for the race i went out of three over the crest about to hit five turn
00:41:54the wheel but nothing happened she went straight in so uh very quick but uh thankfully the tire absorbed
00:41:59most of it it looked probably worse than what it felt like inside the car to be honest because it's
00:42:03sort of the nose buried under the tires got to the windscreen which when it stopped and
00:42:07and of course now i couldn't get out so i just had to sit and wait to be retrieved which i did
00:42:11now hopefully we can see we get the car ready for race two and this is the chat obviously we didn't
00:42:15want to have and the car's in a bit of a mess but so too is your championship as a result of that this
00:42:19is going to be tough now it's been a hell of a year it's been up and down like a yo-yo so uh yeah
00:42:23we've got great speed we've picked up some elements where we we struggled last year which is uh
00:42:27qualifying we've now picked that side of it up and we've uh unfortunately lost the other side
00:42:31of it which is the racing side of it so uh a bit of a bad luck look that's motor racing we all know
00:42:35you take the good with the bad so uh hopefully now fingers crossed we can get the car ready for race
00:42:39two you're 195 points back from the league but we know this is a long season we do know anything can
00:42:43happen oh look definitely like you know we still haven't got from the endurance side of it which is
00:42:46you know 300 points solely for our race um and that can definitely make or break a championship
00:42:51we've always said you come out of the back side of the gold coast and you know whether you're still in
00:42:55the hunt um and look if the points are still there for grabs i'm going to take them so now
00:42:59if bets are off i'm going to try and win races yeah and we know you'll keep punching good on you

00:43:06levo and shelly come on you mate well done neil crompton you're just asking about how far into
00:43:12the car this damage might have got i'm just standing having a bit of walk around the car
00:43:15everything's sort of pointing in the right direction the guys are into it it's up on stand
00:43:18i'd actually say it is repairable a lot of damage around that front radiator support area they're
00:43:23putting a front left upright in it which is a major suspension component but i'd say absolutely
00:43:28repairable and a good sign of that there's a really good productivity situation down here
00:43:32but not panic and there's a difference
00:43:36so we're watching this fantastic battle here at the moment between reynolds and slade this is for
00:43:42the back end of the top 10 can you believe it on it goes incidentally v8 supercar fans
00:43:50you can track the series via facebook and we've hit the half million mark on our way to a million can you
00:43:55you believe that we've got a problem slate's got a drama why did that suddenly just check up
00:44:02so all of a sudden appear to have been an issue there with it's got some steering problems
00:44:11i heard him say a minute ago he's got some steering drama going so
00:44:14what a shame because he's been showing lots of speed this afternoon tim slade
00:44:27you can see how off center it is there but hard to
00:44:34just coasting there so he's dropped back all the way to 12th position he's just trying to stay out of
00:44:38everybody's way we saw him up as high as i think fourth earlier in the race so 1.4 seconds now by
00:44:46the way between wind cup and mclaughlin and then tander in third place
00:44:54and race control just monitoring car number 47.
00:44:57so let's have a look at these margins for you just to establish the order wind cup mclaughlin
00:45:04tander not a bad recovery then davison his former teammate who's had a win here perk out
00:45:10under huge pressure from courtney no rear tires was the word from van gisberg and bright then reynolds
00:45:15then caruso uh then it was uh winter bottom rick kelly fabian coulthard james moffett
00:45:22lee holdsworth scotty pie chas mostard russell ingle todd kelly down the inside car 17 is david wall
00:45:29jack perkins behind him oh a little bit of hip and shoulder between these two
00:45:37tim slade is in the pit lane and they're just trying to examine
00:45:40the front of that car at the moment figure out what the problem is
00:45:47that was pretty wild then i thought there was going to be another
00:45:49drama between turn two and turn three it's probably not over yet because jack perkins just
00:45:55buying into this behind todd kelly this is the 19th 20th and 21st
00:46:04wind cups just etched away from mclaughlin just a little bit again in the last couple of laps
00:46:09it was down to roughly 0.5 of a second now it's 1.6 seconds this is on board looking back at scott pie
00:46:19one of the nine in-car cameras that we've got for you this weekend it's a great shot isn't it
00:46:25gives you an idea of what's going on in and around that cockpit at the moment so he looks in the
00:46:29passenger side mirror glimpse in the rear view mirror now he's checking data watching the shift
00:46:35lights awareness of what's going on around him six-speed sequential gearbox feeds it back to second
00:46:42gear down here at turn two a little kick in the road the gear shift up to three quite bumpy down
00:46:49here you've got to use a bit of the curb to be able to be quick around here let's stay with this
00:46:54we've done a break just to get the nose online here again and climbing over a bit of curb
00:47:04this is down at seven
00:47:14it's a favorite bit of the track here cross boundary street
00:47:17when the tire conditions good it's a hundred percent throttle
00:47:25this is where lounge got in strife right at the beginning of the race through 11 and 12
00:47:29and into the final corner here back to first gear for scott this is the corner that i spoke
00:47:39about earlier in the race where summer choosing second look after the rear tires
00:47:43and scottie pie in car 16 16th position at the moment 23 seconds from the lead of the race
00:47:55wind cup is opening the margin it's now out to two seconds wind cup to mclaughlin
00:48:04and for the second time today the petters chrysler safety car intervenes because jack perkins is in the
00:48:09wall on the exit between turns two and three tim slade's car still got problems they're looking
00:48:15under the front up there's the owner of jack perkins car the gerald went entry charlie schwerkolt
00:48:19and you can tell by the look on charlie's face what he thinks of this there was contact between jack
00:48:24and todd kelly on the exit of turn two on the route down through that little kink to the left
00:48:30down to the third corner and it's resulted in jack being in the wall so safety cars grab the field
00:48:35again here it is again in replay we'll see what happened so jack down the inside
00:48:39gets it cleanly done and then on the crisscross as jack came out the other side they checked up
00:48:46and then contact todd touches the right rear corner of jack's car here he's getting from the other side
00:48:52now so jack's moved to the right to try and cover todd doesn't want to have a bar of it
00:49:00bang and that's a lot of damage that particularly that sort of concrete wall damage at that sort of
00:49:05speed will be front right rail on that car and the cross member all the associated front upright hub
00:49:12disc rotor a lot of the damper everything will be damaged there that'll be a big job
00:49:18down here with charlie schwerkolt uh team owner charlie that uh that looked expensive and i don't
00:49:22want to depress you any more than you need to be but i'm guessing you're going to have a bit of a view
00:49:25on that incident yeah it doesn't look good does it i uh i reckon jack uh got the raw end of the deal
00:49:30there he did mate it's it's a tough gig isn't it it's a it's an expensive game it's tough to get up
00:49:35there and uh jack was going along pretty well there was a good good race but i'm not so sure about the
00:49:39contact from behind yeah it was a clean pass and uh anyway i'm sure it'll get investigated and uh yeah
00:49:45not good at all all right keep keep your chin up mate thanks man thank you i think it takes two to
00:49:51tango with that one larko because he moved over and then you're driving along effectively in a straight
00:49:56got a little kink in it and he didn't have enough there's still overlap didn't have enough room to
00:50:01get across there and there was contact so i think in the end probably it was a 50 50 deal

00:50:41two and three the one that triggered the second headers chrysler safety car there's the confirmation
00:50:45for you on screen so it's been a big get out of jail situation here for jamie wincup so far today
00:50:52scapey field crawling along under his control at the moment when you consider that he qualified
00:50:56in 10th all the fireworks in front of him great move in darwin to move up into third in the championship
00:51:02this is manner from heaven for him he's just going to grab points here and is potentially staring
00:51:06down another race win absolutely and mark winterbottom in 11th position i'm looking forward to this last
00:51:1110 laps because this will have given everyone a little reprieve on the tires cool all that down and let's
00:51:17get on with a sprint race to finish this one race 20 the castrol townsville 500.
00:51:24so nice restart here for wincup taking the pressure off himself straight away tander's managed to shadow
00:51:29mclaughlin instantly and so oh scotty had to cover but now the crisscross is on and tander feeds it in
00:51:35he keeps the speed up and gets away with it on the other side nice job clever bit of experience used
00:51:42there and mclaughlin tries to respond down the inside of three but that was a nice job he ran it
00:51:49in quick ran it in under the brake diagonaled straight to the corner and this might have been
00:51:53a little reprieve for those rear tires also for shane van gisbergen he was complaining bitterly on the
00:52:00radio about five or ten minutes ago at the back of courtney's car looking unstable there remember
00:52:04early in the race he touched the wall with the left rear so there's probably a little bit of geometry
00:52:09damage there and he's under a big assault at the moment from van gisbergen gee there was almost
00:52:14contact then wow that was close he just covers him a little bit courtney just moves it over but he's
00:52:22running there a little bit too deep struggling yeah he's really struggling there definitely will have
00:52:26had damage from that from that early i was just trying to listen to the radio chat then that early
00:52:33contact that we saw in the first two or three laps with everybody running into each other that looks
00:52:38like more damage on rick's car that's worse than what we saw before so before it was the front left
00:52:43corner and now the whole front of the car's caved in so there's more to this story the replay might
00:52:48help explain it and it does so moffett cool tar and in front of that was rick kelly who went into
00:52:56the back of one of the fpr cars winter bottom it was guys there's some action out on the track for
00:53:00sure scott simply your man todd kelly the fingers being pointed at him for turning around jack perkins
00:53:04what do you say to that yeah look it's uh it's an unfortunate incident i suppose look
00:53:09that corner down the end they're always a bit awkward the wall comes back todd left him room
00:53:13on the entry and then uh that the corner naturally closes up so uh i think we'll leave that one to
00:53:18the stewards i just saw on the screen then that they're uh going to investigate it post-race so
00:53:22yeah i'll let i'll let jason uh bagwana decide that one thanks the hard part for scott with that is that
00:53:29given the amount of drama that's unfolded in this race and there's the and there's more that was
00:53:33fabian caulford who's wide well he's got damage to the front of his car because he was actually
00:53:38the meat and the sandwich and all that so he's got the bonnet folded up and that's allowing lee
00:53:43holdsworth down the inside here lee was very quick frightened there's more push and shove one of the
00:53:48djr cars into the back of him it'll be last man standing i'm going to break out the rental car here
00:53:53it might be a chance to get on the podium seriously i haven't seen as much contact as this
00:53:59in a long time especially those early laps yeah and the damage already up and down pit lane here
00:54:04is profound we're going to try and have a bit of a look at it so hang around another thing i want
00:54:08to try and do listening to scott simply there we'll try and bust open and show you the rules in regards

00:54:48great coats higher shot down the inside down the inside of mclaughlin he come from nowhere and
00:54:57fired straight down the inside of turn 11. so davison is he going to be able to survive here he fights
00:55:04back he's into the side of mclaughlin it's ben's versus volmer mclaughlin's out in the grass they're
00:55:10rubbing concrete they're rubbing panels they're rubbing each other's nose in it and the game is
00:55:15on here at the moment davison goes to third scott's just lost four spots and a little bit of it was him
00:55:24being cheeky he moved davison wide they've still got contact now with bright he moved over some
00:55:29wide so davison then fired straight down the inside and then davison escorted him off the road coming
00:55:35out of turn 13. so it was a little bit of tit for tat and will davison ended up running him out into the
00:55:41grass and as you can see there scott mclaughlin who was second in this race has now gone to sixth and
00:55:48under pressure from jason bright there'll definitely be damage on those cars too because they hit wheel to
00:55:52the wheel so it was a big move by davison to get down the inside and then what unfolded through turn
00:55:5712 was davison going in the fence so this is a dive badly to stop this is when we erupted because we
00:56:05were on board at the time so he's gone down there absolutely rotated it around the nose squeezed it
00:56:10in there and then rubbed it on the wall on the exit of 12. watch this you know he did that to himself
00:56:14pretty much well it's dirty out there there's absolutely no grip here's the other angle look how filthy
00:56:18it is on the side of the road mclaughlin's got the race line will want to stay with it he's gone
00:56:24parallel to the wall he might have got away with that but you don't want to lean too hard on that
00:56:28left rear after this kind of contact that's a big thump in the seat of the car when you're in it and
00:56:33then he tries to stay with it he makes it stick mclaughlin has the thing rooster tailing in the grass
00:56:38out here grabs a spot and betty's heart rate's up all of our heart rates are up win cup tan actually
00:56:46don't be win cup if this is seriously the water has just parted for him and he's just blazed down
00:56:51the middle without a scratch i don't think he's broken a sweat everybody else has got varying
00:56:55degrees of madness going on in their lives gary rogers heart rate was just up a little bit i thought
00:57:00i have to catch him there for a minute gary look some things go your way you've had a good year this
00:57:04year this race just not going your way today oh well look it's it's no it's not but by the same
00:57:09token maybe we brought a bit of it on ourselves you know you really just got to do your best every day
00:57:14maybe we've done nearly our best today but we better do a bit better later on in the day okay
00:57:18tell us about the pit stop bit of a problem for scotties pit stop oh well we lost a bit of time there
00:57:22that shouldn't have happened really but it did move on from there now all right we'll let you move on
00:57:25you're good at moving on we've got to move on mate no good going backwards thanks mate it's a cut and dry
00:57:29whirl in gary rogers land says it as it is and uh he's a great character in the panic unbroken
00:57:36investment in the sport for more than 50 years and uh he knows what he's looking at and has done
00:57:41for a long time he's man scotty mclaughlin's sixth at the moment and his other operator robert
00:57:45dalgren's down in 20th in car 34. and why he's saying that is that the little mistake in the pit stop
00:57:51took them out of the lead they were in the lead of the race prior to all the stops and then as it unfolded
00:57:55you get a little bit too far back and then at the restart garth tander was a very aggressive move
00:58:00these guys have had a bit of history over the last little while van gearsberg and mclaughlin so
00:58:05there was a little bit of bump and grind then again and both these guys are very brave well they
00:58:12they've got a bit heated in western australia look at the heart rate there for scott mclaughlin
00:58:17he's working hard in that car at the moment and there'll be a fair bit of frustration in that process too
00:58:23because when you've been in a commanding position everybody knows how hard it is to win a v8 supercar
00:58:27race when things go wrong particularly if they're outside your control it's easy to frazzle
00:58:34hey tim slate it's been a wild old day out there but unfortunately you finished the race in the
00:58:38garage it's been a bit of a mystery problem for you guys the right right front steering seems to
00:58:43just have failed for no reason yeah i'm not sure i had a um you know a radio back to the guys earlier on and
00:58:49complained of a bit of vagueness um you know somewhere in the front end and it just sort of
00:58:53progressively got worse and then it sort of got a bit dangerous whereas you know i wasn't really in
00:58:58control of the car anymore the steering was sort of doing its own thing so um yeah it's disappointing
00:59:03you know we um put ourselves in a reasonable position for uh for both races with a you know
00:59:08fairly strong qualifying in both but i don't know it's just to seem seems to be the way it is at the
00:59:13moment whenever we uh yeah seem to be in a reasonable position something happens so um i
00:59:18mean the boys will uh work hard and uh try and work out what it is uh maybe steering rack i'm not sure
00:59:24so yeah hopefully uh get it fixed and out there again for the next one as you said you've got a
00:59:28good strong collie for the second race and this and this uh plus finish of this race is fairly
00:59:32entertaining enjoy it yeah you don't want to be speaking to me watch a race and we are watching
00:59:36mark winterbottom claw back into contention here he's 11th behind michael caruso so these are
00:59:42important points that he's gathering in the process here at the moment so for this particular event
00:59:48remember it's a split scenario today two 125k races and uh it's 36 points that he'll generate in 11th
00:59:57at the moment but you can see there's some incentive in front if he can grab a few more of these spots and
01:00:03that's not going to be an easy task it's caruso reynolds courtney bright in front of him they've
01:00:07all been racing for sheep stations today but consider how far out of the game he's been at
01:00:12different times during this race this is a little bit of a return to form for him well exactly the
01:00:18guy that's the major beneficiary is wing cup we've said this before that he's just had a charmed run
01:00:23in this race but the gap that winterbottom had coming into this weekend was 161 points at the
01:00:30moment it's 147 so he's really 14 points away from the lead that he had before keep in mind it could
01:00:37have been a lot worse when you qualify where he did now the other thing that's happened here because of
01:00:41the two petters chrysler safety car interventions and the time it's taken to clear those cars this
01:00:47event will be time certain so we'll monitor that for you as well may not run its full 44.
01:00:542.4 seconds is the gap wing cup to tander then will davison so this is going to be a good result
01:01:01for erebus on current numbers and and also have to dip your hat to nick perk out here who's uh shown
01:01:08some form today in qualifying and second time this season he's been prominent and uh in his first full
01:01:15time championship year in the main game nick perk hat in one of the walk into racing cars you've got a
01:01:20a grin on your face here there is no way that jamie winkup lined up today look i think it was
01:01:27actually a little bit of sweat then he just oh dear but there is no way that he would have thought
01:01:32that it's the last lap i just heard race director tim shen can call that they're monitoring the timing
01:01:37up there so leader has commenced the last lap is the information going out on the that's off
01:01:41computer timing at the moment his third place will davison now for wind cup this will move him on to
01:01:48race win number 81 it's got less than three kilometers remaining and this is a tremendous
01:01:55recovery from the deep so to have qualified where mark said before down in 10th with the caliber of
01:02:01the people around you that you're racing it should not be possible but they've all managed in some
01:02:05form or another to tear themselves apart
01:02:08the crowd loving it sitting out there in beautiful conditions watching some extraordinary tough
01:02:19challenging energized motor racing v8 supercars at their best cars sliding people pushing and shoving
01:02:26there'll be plenty of aggravation after this race and remember they've got another one to come and then
01:02:31tonight they'll have to sit down and analyze it all make better cars go through the adjudication
01:02:37process but it's all about this man again jamie wincup wins on the streets of townsville just as he's done
01:02:44five times before

01:03:02oh dear i don't want one of those that's a passionate rolling dame that's a a beautiful drive
01:03:10from wind cup and uh completely stayed out of trouble just you know it doesn't look to me as though there's
01:03:16a scratch on that car well he was the beneficiary of all the wild and there was some lunacy i mean there
01:03:24was some bumping and some push and shove early in this race that there will be plenty of stewards
01:03:32reviewing of that as night unfolds and again they've got one more race to go so he got away with that he
01:03:38moved forward whilst the other guys are running into each other look at the reaction it's fantastic
01:03:44it's just a great atmosphere at this place it's probably the best general admission viewing of any
01:03:48racetrack we go to in australia and this is the beauty of street circuit racing you know
01:03:54concrete walls consequences are big if you make a mistake you trip over a curb things get broken
01:03:59and this is a nice job will davison well done to erebus motorsport
01:04:06impressive performance and they they had genuine pace it wasn't just the demise of some of the
01:04:11others there either actually being quick quick on friday quick in practice quick in qualifying and
01:04:16quick quick when it was important when you had to race and get those points so win cup off the
01:04:22racetrack now marshals congratulating the crowd enjoying it
01:04:26it's very very very strong performance and garth tander what a move that dive down the inside of
01:04:38scott mclaughlin very good presence of mind for mclaughlin not to turn in there either so
01:04:42takes two to tango with those sorts of moves tander who went so well here last year onto the podium in
01:04:49second position for hrt race win number six for jamie win cup 2014. it's jan stuckey
01:05:00and i'll guarantee you that he didn't think that was possible i mean they'll talk a positive game
01:05:07you know that it's always possible and you take it as it comes blah blah all that but the reality is
01:05:11from 10th you think it'd be pretty tall order to grab a win today and he's done it and jan stuckey was
01:05:16saying to me before that she went into jamie before qualifying to say you should be on pole why year
01:05:2110th well now she's the first one to congratulate him so even the government people are so attached to
01:05:26this sport and to this man and what great vision of turn five over the curb the car was beautifully
01:05:34controlled and what a day from 10th position and into position two in the championship 147 points in
01:05:45arrears to mark winterbottom and notice it's a scratch free car there as we look at the super
01:05:54slow-mo replay of jamie win cup uh neil crompton just noticed that you have a scratch free car i
01:06:00think you're the only car that started this race has come home scratch free but from 10th to first
01:06:04mate well done that's an incredible drive yeah as you as you know massive action at the start there and
01:06:09i was able just to keep it clean and come through i don't think i'll be that lucky that the next one
01:06:13i'm starting back in 10th again so a great start to the weekend but um it's a long way to go and
01:06:17bank those points as well and bank this as well one of your biggest fans has got something for you

01:06:50what happened down at turn one where i got i got pushed into into james and then then i saw what
01:06:55happened with james again in the second part of the lap but and then i got turned around so it was all
01:06:58happening for us but um car was mega guys did a great job in the stops didn't quite have enough to get
01:07:03to jamie because i think probably had to use the car a bit too much in the middle part of the race to get
01:07:06through the field again so um thanks very much to the guys we had a really solid darwin and um
01:07:10it's a nice way to start this weekend we'll keep an eye on you too for these next two races and
01:07:14thanks to castrol the trophy for today for second place gt congratulations and well done will davidson
01:07:19good to see you on the podium mate well done hey that was really really hard fought there was a
01:07:23great little moment of justling there between you and scott mclaughlin well yeah i tell you what i
01:07:27had no right mirror no left mirror and about seven laps in the center mirror decided to just fly off in
01:07:33the cockpit so i was flying blind um but yeah i mean we had really good speed early i got a bit
01:07:38of bent steering in those early laps as well there was carnage going on but i'm just so thrilled um
01:07:43for erebus i really am my engineer luke the whole team um yeah it's it's it's a big milestone it's been
01:07:48a while since i've been on a podium and uh i'm wrapped with scotty i'm not sure you know i was on
01:07:52his outside he sort of moved me out and i hit the wall so i wasn't having any of that and i uh jammed it
01:07:56back up the inside so um yeah i wanted to give these guys some silverware i'd been fourth this year
01:08:00and uh you know i had a sniff of that trophy so we went for it and i got it so um i'm wrapped
01:08:05in big hello to mum all my family at home i'm claire johnny sophia my dad everyone it's uh plenty
01:08:10more of these to come with erebus yeah good stuff well we spoke on the grid at down we said it was
01:08:14about time this was going to happen and you've delivered early that's fantastic mate congratulations
01:08:18grab the silverware on behalf of castrol the trophy and well done on erebus first podium result well done
01:08:24second though we want to win second yeah yeah we might just try and uh grab a word with mark
01:08:30widderbottom here because i can tell you this will be a reasonably intense uh debrief sorry to interrupt
01:08:35there boys i know this would be a pretty intense one mate uh 11th um opportunity to capitalize on
01:08:40lounge being out there but jamie did the job but what i actually feel for you mate because you're 19th in
01:08:45the next one you just got a tough afternoon in front of you and it's not fast enough yeah if it was fast
01:08:50enough you're uh you're okay but um we tried a few things then but uh my complaints at the moment
01:08:55are poor breaking poor entry and really bad drives so i've pretty well covered all of the corner it's
01:09:00not too bad down the straight but um the rest is bad you just got to try and survive so um did our
01:09:05best then got some points but it's a worrying sign we need to get it quicker and that's 19th not the
01:09:10worry it's getting it quicker and half the battle as jamie was probably a little bit fortunate to do
01:09:14is to get through the carnage did you have some gauge of what was going on in front of you and around
01:09:18you oh it was pretty crazy so um yeah all the all the mess happens and then you charge on into it
01:09:24so um it's yeah it's pretty tough so just got to try and stay clean and uh there's guys going around
01:09:30the outside for 20th and all that sort of stuff so ideally qualify at the front you don't put yourself
01:09:35in that position qualify there deal with it try and do the best you can no breaks no turn no exit

01:10:09decent cushion but some of that lead has been eroded race number 20 to castrol townsville 500
01:10:16that'll be one that keeps everybody talking in this paddock for some time beautiful shot looking
01:10:19over the top of castle hill back down to townsville and that beautiful shot of the ocean there is the
01:10:25situation in the championship points 147 points is the gap between mark winterbottom and jamie wincup
01:10:31jamie just absolutely drove a great race today and was able to capitalize big problems for craig
01:10:36lounges he drops a spot fabian coultard next moving up one spot into fifth is shane van gisbergen and
01:10:42james courtney's gone down a spot in sixth
01:10:52and coming up this afternoon the action continues we'll have more v8 supercars this time it'll be the
