00:15Et New Zealand, ils sont agressifs.
01:01Ainsley et New Zealand, perfect.
01:02C'est New Zealand avec un peu plus rapide à la ligne 1.
01:05Mais Slingsby va être en train de l'intérieur et il va contrôler les choses à la ligne 1.
01:10Ainsley a un travail à faire sur la ligne de Great Britain.
01:12So with just three boats out on the bay, the battle is on.
01:17Mark number one, it's Australia and New Zealand as the old rivals get together one more time.
01:23New Zealand must keep clear.
01:24Slingsby's aggressive.
01:25This is an opportunity for Ainsley.
01:26Ainsley will be back in the race here at mark one.
01:29But the Australians lead.
01:31They have control of the first decision.
01:33And it's now a test of speed.
01:34Which one of those flight controllers is going to be brave enough to fly the boat highest ?
01:38Expect Ainsley to be the first to turn the British boat away.
01:41And look at those speeds approaching 70 km an hour.
01:44There you see Great Britain on the left side of your screen.
01:46Australia right in the middle as we ride on board with the Kiwis.
01:50Setting up in the background of the British crew there.
01:52No control for the Kiwis at the moment.
01:54They're really much reliant on the other boats turning away.
01:57First to go, it's Emirates GBR.
01:59Second, it's going to be Australia.
02:00And it's how well lined up they are for Gate 2.
02:03We heard from Lisa and we've seen in both races that at Gate 2,
02:06it's been favorable to turn left.
02:08Can the British make it down here with no more maneuvers
02:11if not, then it should be controlled to Slingsby early on in this million dollar race.
02:1644 meter lead right now.
02:18I wonder what the heart rate is, Todd.
02:19Mine's pretty high.
02:20Emily, how far out are they already looking at what direction they're going to turn?
02:24They'll be constantly thinking about one move, two moves, three moves ahead of them.
02:28They're going to be thinking even about the next gate after this one.
02:32They'll have decided that before the start.
02:33100%.
02:34If we're leading, we want to turn left.
02:36That will be in a set play situation here.
02:38But for the boat's behind, they're already taking second pickings here, Todd.
02:44But we're early in the race, so it's about keeping it tight right now.
02:47But look at the boat's speed on board the Australians.
02:51They're going a right turn.
02:52Happy to be a little fast.
02:54Nothing major.
02:55What's Tom Slingsby seeing?
02:56We thought they liked left turn early.
02:58Slingsby wants to minimize the number of maneuvers here.
03:00The water's getting chopper.
03:02It's tight.
03:02New Zealand and Great Britain.
03:04Great Britain have the right of way.
03:05That was a close, close cross for the Kiwis.
03:09Interesting if anything comes of that.
03:11Everyone's going right.
03:12They are all setting up for a right.
03:13It saves you a maneuver by going right.
03:15Every time they turn the boat, you slow down.
03:17So they're saving a maneuver going right.
03:19But don't be surprised to see the Kiwis take a different choice when we get down the bottom here,
03:23as they're now well out the back of the fleet, and they need a miracle from here.
03:27Maybe not a miracle, but they've got to find more wind from here.
03:29Well, we've seen this before.
03:31Gate number two with Australia out in front and in control.
03:33There you see the wind speeds at the top.
03:35They're traveling right around 57 kilometers an hour,
03:37and the wind holding right under 30 kilometers an hour.
03:40So we'll see in the upwind how they handle it.
03:42And it's the Brits the first one to make the turn.
03:45They were just following behind the Australians.
03:47They would have been a disturbed wind going a bit slower there, Todd.
03:50So their option was to move away.
03:52I think for New Zealand, they've got to hope that Australia engages Great Britain.
03:56New Zealand offshore, slightly less pressure than the boats close inshore.
04:00So that's good news for Australia at the moment.
04:05It's going to be a tight, tight race here, though.
04:07The Australians are keeping it tight.
04:09They want to be trying to travel in the same direction as the boat in second place.
04:13So right now, they've both got the wind coming over the left-hand side of the boat
04:16on board Great Britain and Australia.
04:18New Zealand, well, they're going the other way,
04:20but over 150 meters behind on our ladder lines.
04:22We can see they've got a bit of work to do.
04:25Leg three of six on the million-dollar race,
04:27the final race of season number three
04:29as we go down under the water and Lisa Darmanin.
04:33Well, it is certainly patchy out here,
04:36which means that there's lots of little pressure pockets around the race course.
04:39So I know I was saying I thought one way worked,
04:41but I think staying flexible out here during this race is everything.
04:45The other thing is later in the day, it's choppier out to sea,
04:48so I think they might be searching for flatter water to hit higher speeds as well.
04:52Textbook positioning by Tom Slingsby here.
04:54We can see the wind is coming from the right-hand side of our screen.
04:57It will be deflecting off the Australian wing,
05:00and it will be turbulent by the time it reaches Great Britain.
05:02That will be slowing them down.
05:04Our move is to match Ben on the next one,
05:06but it's going to work a bit of height, yeah.
05:09When he says match, he wants to be directly lined up with them, Todd.
05:12He wants to be going the same way.
05:14If you can sail in the same patch of wind
05:16and you're confident of your speed, as the Australians are,
05:19then there's very little chance for the British to get by.
05:22And why wouldn't they right now?
05:23Look at the speeds at 55 kilometres an hour going upwind.
05:26They've got almost a 200-metre lead on Great Britain,
05:29who sits in second,
05:30and the Kiwis still having their issues in third.
05:33Kiwis have got to find a bit of space
05:35and try and get away from the other boats,
05:36but that's just not easy.
05:38Australia's gap is growing all the time.
05:40And they are, on average, the fastest boat on the course,
05:43although that's not...
05:44Oh, they're off the foils, Emily.
05:45They've fallen off the foils.
05:47They said it's a bit light here.
05:48They're out of breeze.
05:49This is going to be a huge opportunity.
05:51Look at the ride height.
05:52They're only 12 centimetres above the water.
05:54They're off the foils.
05:54The lead's coming down all the time here.
05:57They're back up to speed.
05:58Heart-in-the-mouth moment for Australians here.
06:00It could be control back to the British.
06:02When they turn, Great Britain will have the right of way.
06:05Tom Slingsby will need to be confident
06:07that he's clear ahead as we approach gate three.
06:09And that mistake cost the Australians half their lead.
06:12It was 200 metres.
06:13It's now down to 100 metres.
06:15There you see the Australians at the top of your screen.
06:17Great Britain at the bottom.
06:18We just don't see mistakes.
06:20That's pressure, Todd, right there.
06:22But it's a good recovery,
06:23and it sounded calm on board the Australians.
06:24Expect to see the Australians turn directly in front of Ainsley again
06:28to try and get control of this race again.
06:30He was stretching away.
06:31It was looking easy for a moment.
06:33Wow, good recovery by Australia,
06:35but it shows us one mistake,
06:37and this final could flip on its head.
06:39Tight lifting, taking the height quickly here.
06:42We're going to go right turn.
06:43He couldn't.
06:44Okay.
06:45Okay.
06:46Interesting.
06:47Slingsby on board there,
06:48saying he wants to take right turn.
06:49He's happy to do another manoeuvre.
06:50There just seems to be less wind right now
06:52in towards San Francisco shoreline.
06:54Australia fell off the foils,
06:55lost a lot of distance.
06:56He knows Ainsley's going to take a right turn
06:58because he can't make it in one.
07:00So, again,
07:01he keeps himself in the same patch of your two
07:03as Emirates GBR
07:04by taking this right turn.
07:05So, an extra manoeuvre,
07:07but an awful lot more control
07:08for the Australian boat right now.
07:11So, the Australians are around safely,
07:14and they've got a nice lead,
07:15and now look at the speed on the top of the mast.
07:17Coming up on 64 kilometers an hour in first place.
07:20Todd, with two long legs
07:24and a short sprint to the finish away
07:26from a million dollars.
07:27How's your heart rate on board
07:28that Australian boat right now?
07:30The lead now back up to 200 meters,
07:32and New Zealand obstacle in shore.
07:36Here we go.
07:38We're going to go on board Australia here
07:39and listen in.
07:40What's in Slingsby's mind right now?
07:43Keep me up, set up.
07:44Hi, Rick.
07:44Moving hard.
07:46Okay, coming into first room five here, guys.
07:49Let's just put it out.
07:49All right, they're on our line.
07:53Voice attached, Brian, at the back there,
07:54talking about where the British are.
07:56They're on our line.
07:56That's just what you dream of hearing
07:58as the tactician and driver in Tom Slingsby.
08:00They're just following me here.
08:02I then can just trust Kyle Langford as the wing trimmer.
08:05Trust Jason Waterhouse, the flight controller.
08:07I know they're the best in the business.
08:09I know they can keep the boat going as fast as these others.
08:11So, at the moment, it's just a case
08:13of trying to keep this Australian boat
08:15lined up with Britain, and it's a team job.
08:18This is leg four of six,
08:27the grand final here in San Francisco,
08:29and it's the two-time reigning
08:31and defending champions out in front.
08:32But look at this.
08:33The Kiwis have now moved into second place
08:35ahead of Great Britain.
08:36Big gain.
08:37They found more wind in by the shore.
08:38It hadn't been there before, but Burling spotted it,
08:41and he's now back within 100 metres.
08:43And that's the summary from that previous leg.
08:45The Australians really on form.
08:47Even with that touchdown close to the shore,
08:49they still had the highest average speed
08:51and sailed less distance.
08:53You can't get better than that.
08:54That's what you want right there.
08:56And then it's Great Britain.
08:57They've dropped off.
08:58The Kiwis are fast,
08:59some seven kilometres an hour faster
09:01than the Australians.
09:02But crucially, still 100 metres behind,
09:05and all the boats are going to look well lined up
09:07for a right turn.
09:09And if everyone follows Australia,
09:10that'll be good news for the Australians.
09:12What trick has Pete Burling got left up his sleeve
09:15to try and drag a rabbit from a hat
09:17at the end of this final here?
09:18Still work to do here on leg number four
09:23to be around this next gate,
09:24then to the top of the course.
09:26And as Stevie pointed out,
09:26a quick sprint to the finish line
09:28and the $1 million prize.
09:30It's the two-time defending champions out in front.
09:32New Zealand, though, have found speed late.
09:34Look at that.
09:35They're going 60 kilometres an hour,
09:36just almost even with the Australians.
09:38Can they reel it in, Stevie?
09:39This may come down to one final mistake.
09:42Well, if anyone makes a mistake,
09:43that's going to be it.
09:44But the crucial move here
09:45is Burling is taking the left turn at the bottom.
09:47He maybe thinks he's seen more wind the other way.
09:50This is really probably his only move
09:53to split the course.
09:54Hope he gets more wind.
09:55If he finds more wind, he'll be faster.
09:57Just nine seconds needed to claw back
09:59on this fine luck wind leg.
10:01And it's now a strategist game.
10:03Who's found more wind?
10:04As Slingsby, quick to turn the boat,
10:06trying to get himself back over
10:07and closer to the New Zealand boat.
10:10And it's going to be all about
10:12who's read the wind best at this stage.
10:13Yeah, let's get to go.
10:14Let's get to go.
10:16Low drag position on board Australia there.
10:19It's going to lift his fingers?
10:21Yeah, I know.
10:22So there, we just heard from Kyle Langford
10:24it's going to lift.
10:25That's great news for them.
10:26That means the wind's going to turn to the left
10:28and start to bring them
10:29more directly up the ladder line.
10:31Great news.
10:32Should be a gain.
10:33Showing us a gain at the moment.
10:34And expect a bit of a repeat, Todd,
10:36of what we saw on the last upwind.
10:38So, Stevie, is this the case of Australia
10:39and Tom Slingsby are going to match
10:41whatever the Kiwis are doing in Peter Berling?
10:43Yeah, I think so.
10:44Look, off the foils, great Britain.
10:45There just seems to be less wind in by the shore.
10:48It's easy to fall off the foil.
10:49There we go.
10:50Straight lines himself up with Berling.
10:52Berling's got to maneuver soon
10:53to try and keep this race alive.
10:55You've got to move.
10:56As soon as the Australians move,
10:58Berling needs to move
10:59and try and get a mistake out of the Australians.
11:02Every time you maneuver,
11:03there's a potential to...
11:04Here we go.
11:04The Kiwis turn one more time.
11:06What does Australia do here?
11:07I wouldn't be going too far
11:12towards San Francisco shoreline now.
11:15There's got to be a maneuver
11:15for Australia soon here.
11:20Speed's still good on for Australia
11:22at 53 kilometers an hour.
11:23Similar for New Zealand.
11:24The lead now 100 meters
11:26as they get ready to make the left-hand turn
11:28at the next gate at mark number five
11:30and it'll be the sprint to the finish line.
11:32Crucially, the Australians stayed on their foil
11:35in that maneuver.
11:36That was where they fell off their foil
11:37last time.
11:39They've stayed foiling.
11:40That doesn't give much of an opportunity yet.
11:42Still 100 meters in it.
11:43Still the New Zealand boat
11:44needs to throw maneuvers at Australia
11:46and try and make another mistake
11:48on that Australian boat
11:49or it's going to be the three-peat.
11:51There's only a few hundred meters
11:53to go here, Todd.
11:54And that lead is growing from Australia.
11:56Over 100 meters lead now.
11:58Let's stand by there.
12:00Need to build on.
12:00Here we go.
12:01600 meters of this upwind
12:02leg left to mark five.
12:04Then that's brought short sprint
12:05to the finish.
12:06The race is getting closer
12:07but Slingsby's not willing
12:08to give Burling any space.
12:10Angle.
12:10Again, lines himself up parallel.
12:15It's now just a question of boat speed
12:16and we know the Australian boat's fast.
12:18What's Burling got up his sleeve?
12:20Surely one more maneuver
12:22from the Kiwis.
12:22Got to get it going here.
12:24Big transition coming.
12:25What he means by that
12:31is there's a change in the wind speed.
12:33There's a big change coming.
12:34We've got to re-accelerate the boat
12:35and look, they have top of the mast
12:37matching boat speeds.
12:39Two more maneuvers
12:40for all the crews here.
12:43New Zealand make it first.
12:44Australia will go straight
12:45in front of him.
12:47It's all about whether anyone
12:48makes a mistake now, Todd.
12:49This is Australia's to lose.
12:51Great Britain out of the picture.
12:52They are 200 meters behind
12:53the Kiwis in second place.
12:55Oh, they're going to stay on the foils.
12:56Australia pulls it down.
12:57Oh, he's just,
12:58he's got to stay above 30.
13:00Oh my Lord, he's off the foils.
13:02This has given New Zealand a chance.
13:04He's going to have to turn again
13:05and he's going to be slow when he turns.
13:07Advantage New Zealand here.
13:08This could go to the wire, Todd.
13:11Australia have got to keep clear here.
13:13New Zealand stay on the foils.
13:14What do Australia do?
13:16They're going to struggle
13:17to stay foiling on board Australia.
13:19On the inside, it's New Zealand.
13:21New Zealand, if they can get over that.
13:23Wow, no.
13:24Slingsby holds on.
13:25He leads at mile five.
13:29First to the circle
13:30and Australia has priority
13:32and the Kiwis
13:32and now it is an absolute drag race
13:35for one million dollars.
13:36The two-time reigning
13:38and defending champions.
13:39They can see the finish line.
13:40The checkered flag is there.
13:41The Kiwis are going to run out of water.
13:44The Australian dynasty
13:45is still intact
13:46and the three-peat
13:48is now complete.
13:49Have you ever seen anything like that?
13:59Got to drive.
14:00Got to drive.
14:01I mean...
14:04Oh, my word.
14:06What?
14:07I thought he'd blown it.
14:09How they pulled off that second manoeuvre
14:11into the final mark five
14:12at such a low speed
14:14and get straight back on the foils.
14:16Oh, I thought somehow
14:19Burling had pulled it out of the hat.
14:21What a race for the million dollars.
14:23That pretty much had it all
14:24but you've got to say
14:24the best team over the season
14:28has won
14:29and I think there's
14:30a certain fairness in that.
14:33Absolutely.
14:34Tom Slingsby
14:35saved his most clutch moment
14:37for the last 30 seconds
14:38of this race
14:39because, Emily,
14:40it looked like Australia
14:41when they put it down
14:41it was done
14:42because New Zealand
14:43is coming on them strong
14:44and he gets it back up.
14:46I know.
14:46And after New Zealand's weekend
14:47they've underperformed,
14:49underperformed
14:49and then all of a sudden
14:51last moment
14:52it brought it out of the bag
14:53but just didn't quite manage it.
14:56What a performance.
14:58Tom Slingsby
14:58Stevie we've seen him do this
15:00time and time again
15:01just when you think he's out
15:02he comes back.
