00:04In the early floors going up the lift up there to the canton tower but anyway it is one of the world's biggest

00:10skyscrapers here we are though back in the stadium where we're standing by for heat two

00:14Of the mixed four by 400 meters again three places up for grabs here and we start on the outside first of all with

00:22India who only have one member of their team that's rupal who ran yesterday they changed the other three

00:28there you can see and a slightly new addition this year you can see the athletes lining up in their

00:31individual team pens rather than they used to line them up leg by leg rather so the second leg runners

00:38would all go in one pen third leg another fourth and another bit of team camaraderie as we see

00:42canada who are running exactly the same team as yesterday with cole marsh george and proctor italy

00:48have made some changes as we might have expected the european silver medalist but they ran with a

00:53what you'd call an understrength team yesterday only troiani there at the front retained from that

00:58see they've brought in the experience of the likes of scotty achetti and mangioni

01:03botswana they have a couple of similarities from yesterday on the first two legs

01:08moningatipa and rante retain their places but changes on legs three and four for the botswanans

01:15who ran very well the african championship bronze medalist by the way france were fourth in the world

01:20championships they're not messing around they've changed the entire team mohammed kunta on the

01:24first leg peltier on the second then andon and louise maraval on the anchor sri lanka this is their

01:32only event they didn't finish yesterday didn't get the baton round in the mix four by four kumaraga

01:38ramanaika roger karuna and fernando are their quartet and finally on the inside the only ugandan

01:45quartet who are here in guangzhou they have chanwego bandura adoli and shida

01:59so standing by there v2 of the mix four by four hundred meters relay

02:13with three automatic places up for grabs in the world championships and there are no consolation prizes

02:23you've got to get the job done here or you're relying on the world rankings later in the year

02:32top three qualify

02:37so we'll be expecting france and italy with their bolstered teams here making some changes from

02:54yesterday to be towards the head of affairs here and right for the outside canada have also started

02:59strongly austin cole has gone out well one from the outside in the red also botswana right in the center

03:05and the light blue through mongantipa have also gone blazing through this first 200 meters

03:12the three-bend stagger of course in these four by 400 meters so the first bend is

03:17running lanes for the second leg runners as well they'll break as we just saw on the back straight

03:21so austin cole went out hard it's just paying the price a little bit for that in the home straight

03:25botswana have stuck to their work pretty well france and italy are coming through strongly at the end

03:29of this leg as well and in fact we're pretty even in the outside five lanes there look at that almost a sink

03:34handover between all five there as we see the second leg runners heading out and it's fanny peltier

03:40on the inside for france in lane five who just will get to the break with a stagger unwinding in her

03:46favor ranty for botswana italy on the second leg have virginia troiani just battling with the canadian

03:52elissa marsh to get across in fact it's gale on the uh the second leg for them coming across as a late

03:57team change from what we have written down here lauren gale on the second leg for canada so italy out

04:04front from canada from france india in fourth position botswana and then uganda and sri lanka

04:12at the back of the field at the moment so this field is much more stretched out coming down to

04:18this change onto the third leg italy leading from canada france finishing the leg strongly as well as

04:23we move on to the third oh very close changeovers there and look at and on from france out with

04:31intent absolutely storming around their first bend it is italy one canada two france three that is

04:40george for canada just storming around the outside of assetti assetti a very experienced runner with

04:45part of the olympic italian team look at that look at those arms go around this second bend and george from

04:52canada having an absolutely astonishing run here and france on dons is not going to be left behind

04:57here they come the three men charging down the home straight as we go to the final change of it

05:03it might be italy that comes out and it's just tying up assetti can he hold it as they pass over

05:08basically in unison well they know that there are three places up for grabs here so there will be a

05:13bit of pride here india aren't quite out of the mix yet in fourth position they have now subar

05:19venkatison on the final leg but those three are away at the moment and now it's the world athletics

05:24relays title the gold medals and the prize money that is up for grabs between those three man johnny

05:29for italy out front louise maraval for france and canada in third position and india just closing that

05:37gap now remember three places at the world championships india have run a terrific first 250

05:42is there anything left in the tank for venkatison in the home straight trying to close down on canada

05:47and trying to close down on shira in third position but it's italy and france and canada who are

05:53holding it at the minute and are ready to stamp their passports and head off to tokyo and the

05:59strength prevails they're the strongest teams on paper have executed to perfection france italy canada

06:06on the way to the world championships yep no trouble for them their job done pretty nerve-wracking on day

06:15one of the world relays when you don't qualify and all the pressure comes down to this

06:21that just sums up what 400 meters can do for you but yeah canada they're gonna win this one but still

06:28very solid their mixed four by 400 meter team are going to the tokyo world champs italy really strong

06:37from them really led it from the off and france they held on to take that second place

06:46happy happy happy and now it won't necessarily be these athletes exactly that go to the world champs

06:52it's a team that goes and they have qualified the italian four by 400 meter team for tokyo uh hopefully

07:00some of these athletes will be in that scotty he was part of the uh italian olympic paris team in the

07:06men's four by 100 and oh look he's he's not up for it it's not up for it is that enough uh on don't know

07:15brilliant leg from him really was to secure second place at a season's best well there is some uh

07:22all of these heats by the way were redrawn midway through the afternoon so the athletes all had

07:26their uh the lane lineups changed late in the day and the canadian team that have ended up running

07:31are two athletes different from the team that is on the other computer in front of us here because we

07:34had uh diana proctor and elissa marsh lined up as the canadian athletes uh and obviously as you could

07:39see there it was lauren gale and zoe shearer who ended up running so uh apologies to uh the family of

07:45either of those athletes that we might have misidentified but uh the list in front of us wasn't correct

07:49anyway uh the job was done and that is a good performance from those and for canada that is

07:53four out of five teams now who are through to tokyo the mixed becoming their fourth and for italy that

08:00is now three of their five teams through and of course the teams that aren't through have another

08:05opportunity here today who will be the first nation i wonder just to uh keep a clean sweep of five out of

08:11five get all their teams through to the world championships that of course is what they've come for

08:15well let's wait and see but i mean commentators cars well maybe no one we'll wait and see we'll

08:22wait and see uh there's a few who can't obviously there's a few who can't jamaica can't they can't

08:27get there soon now because they've had well they had a lot to do anyway but uh you can just see that

08:31france they brought in all of their big hitters there italy did the same and the athletics relays

08:35is all about giving other athletes a chance and you know there's a lot of 19 20 21 year olds here who are

08:40going to be the next stars uh either individually or in relays of the years to come but these

08:45athletes here that you're seeing on screen the mangione's and the marabelle's have experienced

08:48olympics european championships in their home nations in the the space of those two at the front

08:52there even last year the what the olympics in paris of course and the rome european championships um

08:58but it's a great opportunity but then that's where the tactical selections come in how strong do we go

09:03on day one do we try and get qualification done if you go strong and you don't get it done on day one

09:07then you are under a bit of pressure because your senior athletes have got a race in their legs

09:11where maybe you might like to have saved them so the relief when you do load your team in the end

09:17on the second day and prioritize certain events and the team italy coaching staff i imagine there

09:23are a small pocket of of probably a handful of italian fans in the arena most of whom will be

09:29athletes and coaches and physios but we are we are really filling up here i mean we have got

09:35about 15 000 in tonight and here we go here are those who have qualified so far for the mixed four

09:43by 400 meter really in fact that's the final list that have qualified for the world athletics

09:48championships australia belgium canada france germany great britain ireland italy kenya and

09:54poland now there is still a chance for the likes of jamaica because there's
