00:00In Monster Energy, AMA Supercross, 450 main is on!
00:04Plessing it with a blinding start.
00:07Webb's on the inside.
00:08It's the Cowboy with the hole shot.
00:12Just like the heat race, RC.
00:14Number 7's out front, Cooper Webb's in second.
00:17Coop's got to be very, very careful here with the 4 behind him.
00:20I don't expect the 4 to do anything too crazy,
00:23but you just never know.
00:24James, there's so much on the line.
00:26And a lot of dollars in pride for this 450 Supercross championship.
00:31Yeah, I agree with you.
00:32I don't think Chase would.
00:33He actually had an opportunity in that first corner to run it in on Cooper.
00:35So I think he'll let this thing play out.
00:37But if I'm Cooper Webb, this is exactly what I wanted to see.
00:41Shane McElrack all in red there.
00:42He's in the mix.
00:44And Cooper Webb goes to the lead.
00:45Great move on the inside of Plessinger.
00:47What a ride by Coop.
00:49Coming out here with authority.
00:50Putting in some good fast laps early on.
00:54Having really good intensity.
00:56One of the areas in that heat race, he struggled a little bit.
01:01Was in the whoops.
01:02So to make a pass on Aaron was nice.
01:05And you know Aaron's going to let his teammate go by.
01:08See if he can move.
01:08But he ends up slipping up and then allowed.
01:10Mackerel.
01:11Oh, and Cooper.
01:13And I think Joey Savace is in there as well.
01:16So they're all piling in.
01:17James, we've been talking about the track conditions.
01:20But I do feel within the last hour, the track actually is going to complement, still complementing the four.
01:27And the Austrian bikes a little bit better than I say the aluminum chassis.
01:31But I don't think it's as one-sided now as it was earlier on today.
01:36Yeah, I agree.
01:37And I think because of the shadows, it's allowing the moisture to kind of stay into it.
01:40And you know, the guys from Star Racing Yamaha, they went back, watched the video, probably made some changes.
01:45And that number two looks the best he has all day long.
01:49JT.
01:50Ricky, to your point about the track getting a little better, the sun has finally gone down.
01:54Like you mentioned, they've been steadily applying water every chance they get.
01:57The difference is the sun's not on it baking it, so it's actually absorbing it a little bit.
02:02So to your point, the track's probably in the best condition it's been in for several hours.
02:05You got the checklist for the championship checkdown list.
02:10Cooper Webb makes it to the main event, has a good run in the heat race, then gets a great start in the main event.
02:17Now he's leading.
02:18Next thing, just be super aware of where Sexton is.
02:23Make sure nothing silly happens.
02:24You need to let the guy by.
02:26There you go, if the wind's there for sure, but don't override it, because now you're starting to build a gap between yourself,
02:33and you at least need to get fifth place.
02:35He's in the leather.
02:36Cooper said yesterday that in my career, I've been fortunate enough to race the likes of Eli Tomek for a championship,
02:44Jett Lawrence for a championship, and the list goes on.
02:48And he said, I've really enjoyed this head-to-head arm wrestle with Chase Sexton.
02:53He's a very talented young rider.
02:54He's got great bike control and speed, and we all know what Cooper Webb's got, that dog of determination, that winner-champion mentality.
03:04Yeah, Cooper's going to let him go.
03:06Chase stays close.
03:07He's just going to roll over, let him go, and try to follow the number four.
03:10He's been quickest all day long, and he just saw what happened in that 250 class.
03:14So anything goes with the championship, and he knows the only way he can lose this thing, he gets in a battle with Chase Sexton, and things go haywire.
03:21We're just sitting up here, just watching, like, what's going to happen, and you all are watching some incredible athletes right now.
03:35You're talking about the contrast and riding style and speed.
03:40Oh, Cooper messes up.
03:42Here we go for the lead.
03:43Chase Sexton just gently checks where he is.
03:47Knew that he cleared him.
03:48No worries.
03:49Yeah, you know, Chase, his only thing, he probably wants to slow this race down a little bit, but that's not how Chase really operates.
03:56He wants to go out there and beat him, and if anything happens, it's just going to happen with him, and I want to try to win the championship like that.
04:02But look, now it's so much back up as we're looking at Benny Block, and the beta team has had a tough day for those guys just to see Benny back up.
04:10I asked you before we went on air, do you think that Chase was in a situation where he tried to slow the pack up and let these guys close in on Coop to where maybe something silly would happen?
04:23Do you still feel like he won't do that?
04:26Well, I mean, he just got some motivation from RJ in that 250 class, so, you know, anything works, but I don't see that.
04:33I can see Chase just rotting, maybe trying not to pull away, maybe keeping him close.
04:38Close, you got Justin Cooper not too far behind.
04:40Exactly, yeah.
04:41He's two places back behind McElrath, and you know that he'll go into protection mode for Cooper Webb.
04:49Hey, great job by McElrath.
04:51Absolutely.
04:51Hanging in here, putting in some great runs.
04:53He was fast in his heat race as well and in qualifying practice earlier today.
04:58Again, kudos to that Quad Lock Honda team, Martin Davalos and company doing a fantastic job.
05:04They got a great crew over there.
05:08It's like Justin Cooper got off the inside of McElrath right there.
05:15Speaking of the Monster Energy Star Yamaha guys, here is a Rocky Mountain ATV racer update
05:21and the respective positions for the teammates out on track.
05:25Second, fourth, and 11.
05:26The West, Cooper, and Craig.
05:28Christian Craig.
05:29All right, so Jake Coop has cleared McElrath.
05:34Let's look a little further back.
05:35Malcolm Stewart in fifth.
05:37So this puts Justin Cooper in that prioritized position to be third in the championship as they run right now.
05:48But we've still got 14 minutes plus a lap on the clock.
05:52Remember, if Sexton wins, only thing Cooper Webb has to do is get fifth place.
05:57That will secure the championship.
06:00A lot of racing left here.
06:0214 minutes plus a lap to go.
06:03Now, in this situation, I actually do think Justin Cooper will pass Cooper Webb in the spot because there's a lot on line for him as well.
06:12And he knows those points.
06:13Maybe he can get Cooper to toe in behind him and they can ride together.
06:17There's a pretty good buffer between that fifth spot.
06:19And does nobody any good if Cooper starts slowing them all down and they all bunch up.
06:23So unlike last weekend, Ricky, I think he might go around him and he gets the opportunity.
06:28Right.
06:28And I think Coop might let him go as well, you know, because he wants his teammate to do well and his teammate to get third in the championship as well.
06:37So a lot that he wants from Justin Cooper.
06:40And you've talked about it, JT.
06:42Just how, you know, what Cooper Webb thinks of Justin Cooper as a teammate, how important he thinks that Justin is as a teammate.
06:51Yeah, I think he views him as a little brother.
06:53I truly do.
06:54And he has been so instrumental in the development of Justin Cooper.
06:58So it's going to be fascinating to watch this here.
07:01You know, I don't know if Justin feels any urgency, but if the 27 starts to close at all, I think you'll have to see Justin Cooper pick it up and maybe make that pass.
07:10And that's exactly what happened, JT, last weekend when Justin Cooper found himself behind Cooper Webb with Malcolm Stewart coming from behind.
07:18And here are the thoughts of Justin Cooper on that tense situation.
07:23Yeah, I mean, I really put in a lot of effort to get into that position in the first place.
07:29And I was tired, you know, trying to make up time on those two in front of me.
07:35And, you know, with like a lot to go getting into third and just being in that sandwich was kind of stressful.
07:39And it was like defense and offense at the same time.
07:43So I wouldn't really wish it on anyone.
07:45It was pretty stressful.
07:47And, yeah, it definitely was like more of like a chest match rather than a race there at the end.
07:54So, yeah, hopefully we can avoid, you know, some of that this weekend and get some clear track.
08:01Very tricky situation for Justin Cooper to have been in.
08:04But you see how motivated both him and your brother there, James Malcolm Stewart, are for this third spot.
08:10And there's just twofold.
08:12Bragging rights is what I was told.
08:13And, of course, there's money on the line.
08:14Justin Cooper has financial incentives across the board.
08:18I don't know how your brother set up with this.
08:19James, I said to you earlier which one is more important.
08:21And Malcolm told me bragging rights.
08:24I know you disagreed with that.
08:25But a lot on the line for these guys for that spot.
08:27Well, I mean, I kind of agree with you.
08:30I think if you get six points, six figures, it brings a lot of bragging rights if you get a bigger check on there.
08:36So, of course, all these guys want to go out there and beat the other guy and win races.
08:40But I can tell you one thing.
08:42The person, that accountant likes those six points to go towards whatever position for that third place.
08:48As they run right now, Justin Cooper would have a nine-point advantage over Malcolm.
08:51Stuart, as we fast approach halfway of the last Supercross main event for the 450 class of the year.
08:59Pro motocross coming up in two weeks' time.
09:02And don't forget the SMX playoffs begin early September at ZMAX Dragway in Concord, North Carolina.
09:09I want to go back to Shane McElrath aboard that quadlock Honda.
09:13Shane runs in fourth at the moment.
09:15He had a career-high podium earlier this year.
09:19There he is right there.
09:20If he stays where he is, fellas, he's going to finish seventh in the championship.
09:24That is a career-high as well.
09:26What a year for Shane McElrath.
09:29Yeah, absolutely.
09:30Shane's been riding really good, especially after that podium and the quadlock.
09:34And you look at his teammate and Dylan Ferrandez.
09:36Both those guys have been showing a lot of flashes and just shows you what the confidence does.
09:40Anytime you can get up there right up front, see that pace, Shane knows how to get some races done and win and be a podium guy.
09:46I'm showing today.
09:47Well, his teammate Joey Savace is just two positions behind in sixth place.
09:52So, good showing from that team.
09:54Will?
09:55Lee James was just saying how all his experience is playing in.
09:58And that's kind of on the track and in the week, too, when I was chatting to Shane earlier.
10:02He's had a wraparound season.
10:03He did not stop racing at the end of last year.
10:05And I said, are you starting to feel that right now?
10:07He's like, honestly, I've just learned how to recover.
10:10And he used the word recover instead of rest.
10:12He said, I used to rest on a Sunday.
10:14He's like, now I work.
10:15I do light work on a Sunday.
10:16I go back on Monday and I feel great.
10:18He's like, I wish I knew this.
10:20I wish I knew all this stuff when I was younger.
10:21He's like, but the trouble is I've had to go through this in order to learn it.
10:25But he's feeling good now and he's showing it late in the season.
10:28As we've crossed the halfway mark, a reminder to stock up on Monster Energy drinks at Smith's.
10:33But I want to remind you that Malcolm Stewart is not done with.
10:36Have a look at this.
10:38Oh, down goes McElrath.
10:41That puts Stewart up a position into fourth.
10:43And it also gives him a clear view at Justin Cooper.
10:47This is shades of his teammate on the 250 side, RJ Hampshire.
10:52I like the momentum Malcolm has right now, James.
10:56Especially you consider because Cooper, Justin Cooper just sitting right behind Webb.
11:02Not sure if he doesn't want to pass him or what's going on.
11:05But this is going to allow your brother to catch up, possibly make a move.
11:09He's going to force their hand.
11:10He's going to force Cooper's hand to do something about it.
11:13For sure, Malcolm's getting there and he's been running good.
11:16And I think with Justin Cooper, he's got a little bit of a couple points to play with.
11:20So even if Malcolm gets around him, maybe that's that sense of urgency.
11:23But, yeah, my mistake on that a little bit earlier with those guys.
11:26And I think now you're about to find out how much is that really worth, RC.
11:31Yeah, well, I was thinking with, sadly, for McElrath going down, that actually helped Cooper Webb
11:37because it puts the guys like Sabacci and Pleasant are further back as far as timing goes.
11:42There's one less guy that he has to worry about.
11:45So, in all reality, these guys could get by him and he's going to have a big gap from fourth to fifth.
11:52Getting in the lappers here.
11:55Eight minutes plus a lap to go left in the Supercross season.
11:58But, like you said, too, James, it really doesn't matter if your brother is able to get by Justin Cooper.
12:06It's not really going to change the point scenario.
12:09And you've got to wonder, does Justin Cooper know that?
12:12You know, maybe he still thinks McElrath is still there and Aaron.
12:15So, I'm sure Star Racing will probably tell him he'll get a sense of that.
12:19But that's right.
12:20Yeah, you definitely would think that for sure that the mechanics are telling that
12:25as they go through the mechanics area on the pit signals.
12:27We haven't forgotten about the race leader, by the way.
12:29Chase Sexton, eight and a half seconds out in front of Cooper Webb.
12:33He's on a Sunday cruise.
12:35Just like two feet of glass, Hayden Deegan.
12:37He's like, cool story.
12:38I'm going ahead and do my thing.
12:39Yeah, right.
12:43Does Malcolm Stewart keep himself in the picture?
12:45Yes, he does.
12:47This is like probably if you're Cooper Webb, James, I would think it's like the never-ending race.
12:51Yeah, yeah.
12:52It's like it's probably one of the toughest races for him all year long because, you know, he's riding super tight.
12:59But he's doing a great job at just sustaining.
13:02I think Justin Cooper being behind him is obviously helping him.
13:04But what's helping him is him riding that good.
13:07Right.
13:07This is the closest we've seen Malcolm Stewart to Justin Cooper.
13:11Still seven minutes plus a lap to go.
13:14Yeah, a lot of racing left here.
13:15And then we're getting into some lappers, too, so that could play a part into what it looks like.
13:20But just it's getting on the podium, too.
13:22You know, that's an honor.
13:23Monster Energy Supercross.
13:25So if you're Justin Cooper or Malcolm Stewart, that's special to get on there as well,
13:29even though it might not affect what the championship overall points look like.
13:34Yeah, I agree.
13:36The crowd can feel this building.
13:38They know that a move is imminent.
13:41It won't change the top three point scenario, but it does change the race position scenario.
13:49Malcolm Stewart storms his way into third.
13:52Yeah, that was a nice move by Malcolm.
13:53You saw him scrub that finish line to try to get out.
13:57Justin Cooper had a sense of that.
13:58And I don't think Malcolm would have done anything like maybe his teammate RJ,
14:02but probably try to make his way around Cooper if he can go.
14:05Cooper Webb, that is.
14:06Yeah, another thing, too, for that third place in the championship,
14:10this won't affect the standings.
14:14Justin Cooper would still get third.
14:16That's right.
14:16So the crowd are loving Malcolm, what he's doing
14:20as he starts to close in on the championship leader.
14:25What a ride from the Rockstar Husqvar.
14:30Malcolm's not done with yet.
14:32Malcolm's coming.
14:33He's got a ton of momentum.
14:35I anticipate him to get by Coop.
14:37Yeah, and I don't see him even being as aggressive
14:40if he was on Justin Cooper against Cooper Webb.
14:43You know, he knows what's at stake.
14:45And he probably says he'll get around him anyway.
14:47It might be.
14:48Here it is!
14:49Oh.
14:50I mean, he left the room still.
14:52He just starts sliding around, and there's Justin Cooper.
14:58Cooper showed his nose.
15:00What's going on here?
15:02I think he's going to surrender right here
15:04and ride it on into the finish line, James.
15:07Yeah, Cooper knows how many positions he's got.
15:09Smart riding by all three of these guys.
15:11And the biggest thing you need to keep your eye on
15:13is on the left-hand side of your screen.
15:16Webb and the gap over Savace.
15:18That's what you need to run right there.
15:22He has insurance, Cooper Webb.
15:25If Sexton wins, he can still finish fifth and get it done.
15:28This is going to be a fun battle
15:32to see if Justin is able to reel back your brother, James.
15:35It's going to be interesting
15:36because I feel like Justin was playing nice behind his teammate.
15:39I could be wrong, but nevertheless, we're going to have a battle.
15:42Yeah, we're going to have a battle.
15:43The question is, does Justin even want to?
15:46But looks like he does.
15:47Yeah.
15:48Looks like he does.
15:49I can tell you who does.
15:50It's this crowd in Salt Lake City.
15:51They're happy to see the number 27 out there.
15:54Always a fan favorite.
15:55Keep it rolling, bro.
15:56And you know that paycheck from second to third,
16:00it can be a big gap
16:01depending upon how you have your bonus structure.
16:04I can tell you that much.
16:05It might not be as big as that Chase Sexton gap out there,
16:10but it's still pretty good.
16:12Sexton, Stewart, Cooper, and then Webb.
16:15Runs fourth, but is still in control of this championship
16:19with less than four minutes.
16:20There's Kyle Chisholm.
16:21And it's Chisholm's final ride as a full-time Supercross competitor.
16:29184 starts.
16:30Level with Eli Tomac on all-time starts.
16:35Enjoy this ride home, Kyle.
16:37Give a shout-out to Joey Sibachi.
16:43McElrath's teammate in fifth place, riding really good, too.
16:46As you just mentioned, six seconds behind Cooper Webb.
16:50Cooper Webb kind of hanging close there in the fourth spot to his teammate.
16:54Just one second off.
16:55But this guy, he's on rails.
16:57Looks like he's on a slop car.
16:59We talked about how well his bike was working, James,
17:02and a lot of that, not only is his bike working well,
17:05but the mind definitely seems like he's working well.
17:08Several rounds ago, we showed you a statistic that broke down
17:11the beginning of the season, the middle,
17:13and the last five rounds of the Supercross portion for Chase Sexton,
17:18where he's strong and where he's not so strong.
17:21Well, those stats and the numbers don't lie,
17:24and they say that in the last five rounds of a Supercross season
17:28is where Chase Sexton is strongest.
17:30Well, if he goes on and gets this win,
17:32the last five rounds of this season will equate to four wins and a second.
17:37Yeah.
17:38No, he's been very good in the beginning part and the end.
17:41But, Ricky, I would say this is different than those previous years.
17:45I would say the way he's winning right now is it's obviously
17:47if he can continue this, it's going to loom large for the future.
17:50I feel like he's a different rider.
17:52See if he can do it against, you know, Jet Lawrence and Eli Tomek,
17:56those guys doing the outdoors.
17:57But right now, Chase Sexton, the way he's riding Supercross,
18:00he is the best in the world.
18:02And I'm having a hard time saying anybody can beat him
18:04when he's on the zone like this.
18:06Well, we're going to get to see that here in a couple weeks' time
18:08when the Pro Motocross Championship starts.
18:11But what this is going to do,
18:12I think Chase is going to have an incredible Pro Motocross series.
18:16And I like his chances for the SMX playoffs.
18:19He'll have a really high seating as long as he's able to stay healthy
18:23throughout the summer.
18:25That KTM also works well on Pro Motocross tracks,
18:31suited well for that.
18:33Yeah, we had a chance to speak to him earlier this week.
18:35Yeah.
18:36He feels even more comfortable outdoors on this KTM.
18:39So looking forward to the summer, as you said,
18:42building towards those playoffs and championship.
18:44One minute left, plus a lap.
19:00And this guy, Ricky, is getting so close
19:03to joining that exclusive club.
19:05One thing probably no one knows about, all right,
19:08this guy practiced crash December 5th.
19:12He tore his UCL ligament in his thumb,
19:17the same thumb as last year that took him out after this race.
19:21He only rode twice before Anaheim won.
19:26He got told he needed surgery, okay?
19:29And the team wanted him to have surgery.
19:31But he said, no, let me make it through the first three rounds
19:34and see what happens.
19:36And as we sit here today,
19:39he's about a lap and a half
19:40from being a three-time Supercross champion.
19:43You want to talk about mental fortitude
19:45and having to overcome something like that?
19:48That's wild.
19:50That just adds to the depth
19:52of this championship story
19:54for Cooper Webb in 2025.
19:56He edges ever so close
20:00as the clock is now at zero.
20:04So now we just look
20:05to what's left,
20:08which is less than two laps.
20:12What an incredible athlete.
20:14And again, we talked about it at the top of the show
20:16and how he didn't do it in succession,
20:21just incredible.
20:23Yeah, man, every time his back was against the wall,
20:26Chase had all the momentum.
20:28Like, you go back to the Foxborough
20:30where he was right behind Chase
20:32and Chase was able to get away from him.
20:33And then you just see all the things
20:36that Cooper has ever,
20:37actually, Philly, excuse me,
20:39where he lost that time,
20:41things look bleak.
20:42And he saved it, came out,
20:44go back to...
20:46Man, when you talk about a championship
20:49and getting it done,
20:50Cooper Webb was definitely the best
20:52in this championship,
20:53despite what Chase was able to do.
20:55He rised up anytime he needed to.

22:23He's done it.
22:23He's done it.
22:24He's done it.
22:31He's done it.
