00:30This is the Debbie Perkins Radio Show, and here's your host, Debbie Perkins.
01:00Hello, I'm Debbie Perkins with the Hollywood Red Carpet Radio Show, and I'm here with Sherry Sievers.
01:05What an amazing woman.
01:07She is an actress, a producer, a writer, and a podcaster, as well as been in multiple magazines.
01:14She's a multi-award winner, and I want to welcome you to the show, Sherry.
01:20Thank you so much for coming on.
01:22Thank you for having me.
01:24I love this.
01:25I'm so excited.
01:27What inspired me, Sherry, to contact you?
01:30And to have you come on as a guest, because I handpick most all my guests, unless somebody sends me people,
01:37that you are such an inspiration for women, for the industry alone.
01:44The things that you've been doing have made me want you.
01:49Does that make sense?
01:51I saw some of your magazine articles.
01:54I saw that you are one of the women that I would like to be inspired by myself.
02:00So that's why I invited you to come on.
02:04I appreciate that.
02:05It's beautiful.
02:06I appreciate the fact that you acknowledged me, and you paid attention to what I was saying to you about the show,
02:13because it's not always easy to book somebody.
02:16So I really appreciate it.
02:17It means a lot in my heart to me.
02:21So I want to get started with you, lady.
02:24I want to know, for one, where did you grow up, and what was it like as a child?
02:31I grew up in B.C., Alberta, or B.C. in Canada, in a small community, 100-mile house, on a farm.
02:43I did a lot of work on cattle farms.
02:48I did a lot of haying, and then I was, with all the haying we had.
02:56So one year, the baler broke, and it would only bale the biggest bales, which were 125 pounds.
03:06I think I was maybe 90 pounds at the time.
03:09So I had to figure out how to lift 125 pounds so it didn't flip me,
03:15because I don't know how many times I get flipped by a bale when I go to lift it,
03:18but I had to figure out, using my strength, how to lift 125 pounds when you're 90.
03:26And I figured it out.
03:28And then I believe that that's how I ended up developing all my strength from then.
03:35And then I ended up becoming a firefighter for 18 years.
03:39And what an amazing career that you had with firefighting,
03:45because you climbed the ladder where a lot of girls,
03:48it takes them for effort to get acknowledged in a man's industry.
03:53I grew up with two brothers.
03:57I grew up around men all my life,
03:59and I just learned to be able to, I could stand my own ground.
04:05And because I became strong, I would do the job.
04:10And I would use, men do brute force.
04:13I don't do my life force unless I have to.
04:17But if I could think of using a tool instead, I would always do that.
04:22Like I did 14 years frontline firefighting.
04:24And when you're around 300-foot wall of flames coming at you,
04:29it's quite different.
04:32And the adrenaline that you have to deal with.
04:35And then I was on the department for four years and two as a captain.
04:40And dealing with people when they're at their absolute worst.
04:44This is their worst day of their life.
04:47And just being able to have the compassion.
04:52And my training would take over.
04:55I just knew, training was everything.
04:58And I just knew what to do.
05:00And I have no idea how many lives I've saved.
05:04I have no idea.
05:05Because I would, we would bundle people up and ship them off in an ambulance.
05:09And we would not always hear.
05:12So it was, but even if they didn't make it,
05:16I wanted to make sure that I gave them the best care they had while they were in my care.
05:22I love that.
05:24And I think that's really, it's amazing that, because most people are afraid of fire.
05:31So to run at fire.
05:34I run to danger.
05:36But yet there's an animal or there's a human being, possibly a child, a mother, a father.
05:44They need help.
05:46And there you were.
05:48Well, with children, so there's a difference with men and women on a fire department.
05:52Especially when it comes to children.
05:54So when children are hurt, the number one thing they usually want is their mom.
05:59And my goal, when I show up, I'm trying to let them know that when they see a female face,
06:08they kind of calm down a little bit.
06:10But I also have to try and convince mom not to pick them up in case that might hurt them more.
06:15And so it was a lot of, sometimes I have to be a little firm with my words.
06:19But they were always trying to save somebody.
06:23Seconds count.
06:24Seconds are everything when you're dealing with someone that's hurt.
06:28And being able to let the child know that they're going to be okay.
06:33And their mom is right there, like reaffirming them.
06:37Women have more compassion with that.
06:40Men just like, just go through the, they don't have this.
06:44Women have that nurture, and children calm down a little bit more with that.
06:50And I would utilize that to all my benefit.
06:53Now, becoming a captain is a big deal, especially for a female,
06:57because I've seen videos on the training, and I think that's just crazy hard.
07:04Because you have to carry so much weight on your body.
07:07And you said that you were young.
07:10You did the bailing, and I do believe I did bailing too,
07:13and I know how hard that is.
07:15I mean, it's very hard.
07:17Her arms are all peppered with the hay.
07:19Oh, yes.
07:20Oh, yes.
07:20And it itches for days, like bug bites.
07:25But I think that's really fabulous.
07:27And congratulations on being such an inspiration.
07:30And helping other girls to see that we can all be firemen,
07:35if we have that desire and that will.
07:37Because it's anything we want.
07:39And we need that a lot.
07:40It can't be a man.
07:41It can't be a man.
07:42Exactly.
07:43I agree with you.
07:45So how did you go from being a firefighter to finding an interest in the acting
07:52and the entertainment industry?
07:55Well, I might have followed a cute guy for a while.
07:58I kind of had a life before that.
08:01Yeah.
08:01And in between my firefighting and my acting, and there's a my daughter's involved as well.
08:09And I have a new life now.
08:13And me and my daughter have just moved on.
08:17And all growing up, I always try to figure out what do I want to be when I grow up outside
08:22of the firefighting, because I also developed an injury, so I can no longer be a firefighter.
08:28So I had to try and figure out what do I really want to be.
08:32And it might have taken me a long time to figure that out.
08:35But I did.
08:36And once I was on a movie set for a Hallmark as background, I fell in love with it.
08:45I'm a detail-orientated person, but I also see the overview.
08:48And I'm super creative.
08:52And so it tickled parts of my brain that were like, oh, my gosh, this is like so creative.
08:57And you can create anything you want in a film.
09:00So the creativity is just, for me, it was just like, wow, I found my passion.
09:08And yes, being an artist, and I don't care whether I'm an artist, a producer,
09:12but I don't like doing camera work.
09:14I'm not a cameraman.
09:16That's too complicated.
09:17I like being anything else.
09:19I like doing other things, like the producing and the acting.
09:22I love that.
09:23Creating characters.
09:25I just did an audition not long ago, and it was so funny because it was a comedy,
09:30and it was a stripper.
09:31But no, I wasn't naked.
09:32I don't do that.
09:33But I had to create this funny character.
09:39And I think I did a good job.
09:40I think I did not bad.
09:42Yeah.
09:42So you create people in your mind.
09:45And that's fun.
09:48That's fun.
09:49Mm-hmm.
09:49I think that, and it helps you to regulate who you are, because a little bit of you is
09:56in that character.
09:58No, you're always the character.
10:00I'm always, I am the person, and I'm creating the character of me.
10:07Now, do you get inspired by other people to become that character, or do you look for
10:13other people that would make it?
10:15Well, there's always something.
10:17Yeah.
10:17I have a lot of, because of all my experiences in life, I have a large tool chest where a
10:24lot of people, I have a lot of different emotions that I can pull from.
10:27I use those.
10:29I also use, yes, of course, sometimes if I'm not sure about a character, I'll Google it
10:33and maybe see who might have done something.
10:36But I never want to be them.
10:37I want to be me, and I want to bring my spin to a character.
10:42I never want to be someone else, and I don't like trying to recreate exactly a scene that
10:49someone else has done, because I'm different.
10:53I like to do my thing.
10:56I think that's special.
10:58Mm-hmm.
10:59I think that's very special, and to be able to do that.
11:02Now, you got some real amazing publicity recently, and we were talking through the break about
11:10many magazines.
11:12Would you like to announce some of the magazines?
11:16I'm so proud of you, and I think...
11:18This is the latest one I'm in.
11:20Oh, wow.
11:22One sec, here.
11:23Right there.
11:24Hollywood Elite Magazine.
11:26Yeah, I saw that magazine.
11:28What an awesome magazine.
11:29I might be in these ones, too.
11:32Oh, wow.
11:34I've been in Hollywood Elite Magazine since November, and the last portion of it was the
11:41Hollywood Elite Magazine is because I'm doing a podcast with Tom Anderson, and we're doing
11:46the Hollywood Elite Magazine podcast, and we just won two awards, one for the podcast and
11:55one for the poster.
11:57Wow.
11:57And we launched that one with the Oscar Gala that was at Universal Studio on March 2nd.
12:06Oh, yeah.
12:07So he went, and we did kind of behind the scenes of what it was like at the Oscar Gala, and
12:13we interviewed people, and we just...
12:16Oh, fun.
12:17It was so much fun.
12:19That is awesome.
12:20And I handed out an award that night, me and Tom, to the L.A. firefighters, because Tom
12:25is also a former firefighter.
12:27And actually, that's how Tom and I became really good friends, because he's a firefighter,
12:33I'm a firefighter.
12:34And there's this camaraderie between firefighters that is, I mean, when you have been trapped
12:41in fires, you've saved lives.
12:44When you are going into a fire, you rely on all the firefighters 100%.
12:52Like, they have your back, you have their back.
12:54And there's this camaraderie that is developed.
12:58So me and Tom, when I was in L.A., me and him would get together, and we would just...
13:03I would bug him.
13:04I'd bug him a lot.
13:06I'd throw him under the bus.
13:08Tom's such a sweet man.
13:09He's so sweet, but I'd still throw him under the bus.
13:12And he just laughs.
13:14He doesn't know Tom.
13:15He's been on our show before, a couple of years ago, I want to say.
13:19And he is an actor that is...
13:23He's blazing his train.
13:25He's so sweet.
13:26He is so funny.
13:27Oh, and he's so sweet.
13:30It took me, like, almost a year and a half.
13:33Once I got him on, though, I wasn't letting him go.
13:37The only thing I would stop him from being on my show was his wife, but she was very sweet, amazing.
13:44He's such a great guy.
13:45And I'm so happy that you collaborate with him because of all the people in the industry, he's a good guy.
13:53And the last time I saw him, we did an award show together.
13:56We did Samira's Oscar Gala Appreciation Dinner.
14:00Oh.
14:01And we were hosting it.
14:03I only found out the night before when I was arriving in L.A. that I was hosting the award show.
14:08Oh, talk about bringing it home.
14:11I'm like, okay, let's do it.
14:14And then he said that there was some scripts.
14:16And I was like, no, I'm not going to learn a script by overnight.
14:20Yeah, yeah.
14:21So we're going to play it.
14:23So we did.
14:24But I bet it was perfect.
14:27It was great.
14:28It was amazing.
14:29And Samira is my dear friend.
14:33And it sounds like a great group of people that really, they love what you're doing.
14:39They're inspiring.
14:41They're giving you guys the entire opportunities to help their company grow.
14:49They're my family.
14:51Their success.
14:52Oh, yes.
14:53They're my family.
14:53And I think that's beautiful.
14:57I think that is because it's hard in the industry, you know that, to get acknowledged for one.
15:04But to be taken seriously in this industry is so hard, especially for women.
15:10I mean, you'll see a man do four or five movies before a woman can even get into one, which is really hard.
15:17I prove it with my hard work.
15:18I prove it every single day with my hard work, that it doesn't have to be.
15:25It can be anybody.
15:26And I stand above because I work hard every single day.
15:32I agree with you.
15:33And it is not, I mean, it's not for the lighthearted, because if you think you're going to get famous the minute you get into the industry,
15:40that is something that we all understand is not easy.
15:45No.
15:45I mean, once in a while, yeah, you might get an opportunity.
15:50It's the hardest job to do because you are turned around so many times for so many things.
15:58Like I did an audition.
15:59I don't know if I'll get that role.
16:01I might not be the wrong.
16:02I could be the wrong size, the wrong age, the wrong color.
16:06I got the wrong.
16:06I don't have big enough boobs.
16:07You know, like there are so many things that are against me.
16:12But I hope maybe they'll look and see maybe there's another role if I'm not right for that one and hope.
16:19But then maybe I might not be right for anything that they see.
16:24But that's not, that's a learning process.
16:27It's not a, it's not what I can't do.
16:29No.
16:30It's just I'm not the look they want for that role.
16:33Right.
16:33Because there is a look for each role.
16:35And they have age limits for what they want.
16:38So if they want a 20-year-old girl, you know, you're not going to win that.
16:43But you might become her aunt.
16:45You might become her teacher.
16:47You might become her counselor, mentor, doctor.
16:52But if they want somebody that's got some depth of emotions, they're not going to pick a 20-year-old.
16:59Because if they've got somebody that's got life experience, they're going to pull somebody with some grit that is inside them that they can bring.
17:08Yes, I can cry when I want.
17:10I can pull.
17:11I've done my best anger scene.
17:13I've done my best crying scene.
17:15I've done, like, I've done all these different emotions.
17:18The only one I haven't done yet, which next weekend I get to do, is I might be dying on camera.
17:24Oh.
17:25I play a zombie and get shot in the head.
17:28I've died.
17:29I've died.
17:30I got stabbed to death and left in a pool of blood.
17:35But it was so fun.
17:37So fun.
17:38I'm sorry for everybody who thinks that dying is, I get it.
17:43But it was so fun to do on scene.
17:45But the thing is, is your first death scene on camera is a huge step for an actor.
17:52It's huge.
17:53So for me, it's, I'm like so excited for this.
17:57Except I want to see if I can talk to them and maybe not go down so quick.
18:01I get shot and then I keep getting back up.
18:03Oh, I see.
18:04I want to keep getting back up.
18:06I want to be the one that doesn't go down.
18:07I want to keep that one eye open.
18:10I'm still alive, folks.
18:12I think that's awesome.
18:14Now, is this going to be like in a horror genre movie or are we talking about more like a movie?
18:20It's a zombie movie, so obviously.
18:22Oh, comedy.
18:23Oh, no.
18:24No, I don't know if this one's comedy or not.
18:26Oh, okay.
18:27I just know it's zombies and sometimes I don't know the whole story.
18:34I just don't have them do what they tell me to do.
18:38Now, what about that?
18:39Costumes.
18:40What do you think of those?
18:41Do you want to play something where you actually have to wear prosthetics?
18:45If I get to sit for eight hours in a chair playing a creature, let me in.
18:50Sign me up.
18:51I'm in.
18:52Oh, that's cool.
18:53I actually, my movie, Leah's Echo, I was two hours in with makeup and I can't show pictures
19:03because after I had my makeup done, I had to drive to set and I had my hair covering my face.
19:12I had sunglasses on because I was scared that the cops, if somebody saw me, they would call the cops.
19:17And they were just like, I was beat up.
19:19I looked like I was just freshly beat up.
19:21It looked great.
19:23Amazing.
19:23Gina, she did a fabulous job.
19:27That is so fun.
19:29You know what?
19:30That's a whole story in itself.
19:32You will have a story behind that because I did.
19:34I went home with blood on me and there was a car in front of me with children and like a Jeep and they were looking back and I was looking like.
19:42I'm talking blood everywhere.
19:45They probably thought I was in a bad accident too, but I got home.
19:50The cops didn't follow me.
19:52But that'll be your new story too.
19:55How fun is that?
19:56That's so cool.
19:57Now, what about, I could see you in a period film, like in the 1400s wearing the gown.
20:04I have a cloak, I have an outfit, I have long hair.
20:10I also am 33% biking.
20:13And so when I was a firefighter, one of my hobbies was I would put on 50 pounds of armor and fight men with sword and shield.
20:21That's awesome.
20:22And I still know how to fight with sword and shield.
20:25And I just haven't done the 50 pounds lately, but I would love to do it again.
20:31And the sword plays fun.
20:34That's cosplay to me.
20:36Sword and shield pull it off.
20:37I love it.
20:38Well, I like to actually hit, so I would want the armor so we can actually battle.
20:44Oh, really?
20:45That's, yeah, crazy.
20:47Crazy good though.
20:49Crazy like fought.
20:51That's amazing.
20:52I went to the Ren Faire.
20:56That's when you get inspired for costumes.
20:59Mm-hmm.
21:00But it's so much fun.
21:02So I love that you'll do that.
21:04I think that's fantastic because I think that they're making the, I want to say that those airs are coming back.
21:12We're wanting to watch those, like, those style of movies now.
21:18Mm-hmm.
21:19So it's good to know that you'll do that.
21:20And also, you're really good with horses and dogs.
21:25Animals.
21:26Right.
21:27I love animals.
21:28Actually, so they love me.
21:31And I don't try to get them to like me.
21:33I actually have a video out where I, on my social media, I'm talking about mental health.
21:39And at the very end of it, I put my hand out and a bird lands in it.
21:43Oh, no way.
21:44Oh, my God.
21:45It just lands in my hand.
21:47I'm like, oh, hi.
21:49You have something.
21:51Animals come up to me.
21:53I've got videos of squirrels running up to me.
21:55I actually have a video of a raven walking with me.
22:00Really?
22:01That's your ancestor, though.
22:02Yeah, I was walking with it.
22:03I was walking, and there's stuff walking beside me.
22:05And I'm like, okay.
22:06So I didn't film it right away.
22:08And then I started, I'm like, I better film this.
22:10It's just walking with me.
22:11That's your ancestor.
22:15I'm liking, too.
22:16So we have ancestors that we would consider ravens and crows, mostly ravens.
22:24So it's a good look.
22:26It stands for success and all kinds of wonderful.
22:30I saw that.
22:30I saw that.
22:30I saw that were put on my path, too.
22:34Oh, yes.
22:34It's like a sign.
22:35It's a sign from.
22:36Animals, animals, kids and animals are drawn to me.
22:40I can see why, though.
22:42You're wonderful.
22:44You're like an angel.
22:47You've got that aura about you, which I can see why people are attracted to communicating and being near you.
22:55They want to be near you.
22:58That's amazing.
23:00So what are some things, Sherry, that you want to see yourself in and being a part of moving forward?
23:07Anything and everything.
23:08I'm just trying to earn more money, trying to get my bills down, because that's been the hard part, getting in.
23:16I now have some roles coming in the States, which is really nice, and I'm looking forward to that.
23:24One of my long-term goals is to be paid to travel.
23:28So somebody gets me a role, and I get paid to travel, and I get to see the world.
23:32Materials don't mean anything to me.
23:35It's the experiences, because I believe that we're born with nothing, and we leave with nothing.
23:41I'm hiding.
23:42I leave with my memories.
23:43So I want to experience life, and I try and experience different cultures, and just I want to see the world.
23:50It's huge.
23:51It's beautiful, and I haven't even been on the other side of the ocean, the Atlantic Ocean.
23:56I need to get over there.
23:57Well, if you could, at no expense, where would you love to go?
24:03Where is the one place in the world you'd love to go and walk?
24:06I can't get one.
24:07There's too many.
24:08There's so many beautiful places.
24:10If you could choose one, though, like for your first trip, where do you think you'd get the most – that would be –
24:18On a hot beach.
24:19On a hot beach.
24:19On a hot beach.
24:20On a hot beach where I can go swimming.
24:25Beautiful culture and beautiful people.
24:28That sounds nice.
24:30I want to go south, too.
24:32I think that would be awesome.
24:33Now, where would you like to film?
24:35If you could film on any land location.
24:39Any?
24:39Whether it be Ireland, Scotland.
24:42They're all amazing.
24:43Every one of them have the – every place has their own unique flavor when they film.
24:50So it's – I can't just pick one.
24:53That's so hard to do because, like, even Canada has their own flavor.
24:58Like, Sweden, England, Scotland, even, like, India and China and Australia, they all have their own flavors.
25:08Like, how can you just pick one?
25:10That's so – I can't do that.
25:13I know what you're saying.
25:15I have a first, but I'll – I'll hold that for another show.
25:19I want to go somewhere really bad.
25:21I want to go to Norway.
25:22I'm just saying it right now.
25:24Norway and Sweden.
25:25I'm from Sweden.
25:27Oh, your family's from Sweden?
25:29Mine's from –
25:29I've got a lot of –
25:31Where the Basque people are.
25:33Where the Basque.
25:34So, you never know.
25:37Could have some relations.
25:38I think it's really –
25:39Just west of Stockholm.
25:41Northwest of Stockholm.
25:42Oh, that's wonderful.
25:43It's amazing that you know those things about your family.
25:46I think that's really great.
25:48And it sounds like you have a very inspirational family that supports you.
25:51So, if you could work in a movie with any actor, dead or alive, who would that actress be and for what reason?
26:04Viola Davis.
26:08She has been my inspiration because she's the underdog.
26:13She never gets paid as good as she is.
26:15She is so incredibly talented that nobody seems to acknowledge her gifts.
26:23Hers are phenomenal.
26:24She's – she really is.
26:27When I see her work – and she's done action, too.
26:29I'm just making sure my time is good.
26:34I'm sorry, everybody.
26:35I didn't bring my glasses.
26:36So, like, once in a while, you'll see me squint, pull the phone closer.
26:41I just got to see the time.
26:43But I want to make sure that we're not, like, overstepping our time limit.
26:46You know, I want to make sure that we get as much out of you, Sherry, today as we can possibly get.
26:51Now, there are some things that you'd like to talk about as far as, like, what you're doing moving forward.
27:01What do you think we should let everybody know about Sherry?
27:04Because I think you're an inspirational person and you're wonderful.
27:08So, one of the things I support is mental health and specifically PTSD because I have complex PTSD.
27:19And I do, right, I do some videos.
27:22I'm slowly releasing them about – and people talk about the negative, but they never talk about what to do that is the positive.
27:30How do you help yourself when you're triggered?
27:33What do you do?
27:34How do you – what are your go-to things?
27:38Because when you have something like this, you have to have a go-to.
27:41You have to have a tool just of when you're triggered, what do you do to get out of the situation?
27:49Because my medication does not work.
27:52I'm – and my videos, I always state that I go out for a walk in nature and I walk at a fairly brisk pace.
28:01And when you're out there, you can release your emotions.
28:05You go in, you feel them, you get them, and you get – you deal with them.
28:11But you have to have exercise.
28:13Like, exercise is key.
28:15And then when you're done, you have to think of yourself in a positive way.
28:20Like, it's just so important that you look after yourself, eat healthy as best as you can, and then look for people.
28:31And if you're triggered, the other thing that I always talk about is that if you're not doing well, phone people.
28:39Talk to them.
28:39And if you're – even after you've talked for an hour to someone, if you're still not good, talk to another person.
28:45Keep phoning somebody.
28:46Keep talking.
28:47Because I found that sometimes I have to talk for hours, and then you slow – someone will help slowly get it out.
28:56And being women, we – women, and I'm not sure about men, but women, we need to talk about things and get it out.
29:03And once we can talk about it, a lot of times we cry, we get all of our emotions out, then we can move on.
29:11And exercise, and when you're triggered – so for me, my brain is like a muscle.
29:16It gets tight.
29:18And the hardest part is getting that muscle.
29:20So you have to tighten your muscle to make it relax.
29:23And that's what I have to do is I have to go in and deal with the issue.
29:27What is it that's causing it?
29:29And then deal with it and then move on.
29:33And you can't sit in it.
29:35You have to go out, exercise, find whatever your – whatever – if it's listening to music, if it's dancing, hiking.
29:49You know, everybody has their own methods of releasing.
29:53And once you've released, then you can – you have to learn to forgive yourself.
29:58Like, you can't hold on.
29:59Like, it's – you just got to let it go.
30:04And then you have to start being – so for me, I work really hard on being – well, I don't actually work hard on it.
30:09I just say I'm kind, loving, and respectful to everybody.
30:13I treat everybody the same that I need.
30:16How they treat me back is kind of how they get – then they find out whether – they find out about me.
30:24I'm also a Sagittarius, so –
30:26You're a human being.
30:27You're a human being.
30:29And you're a woman.
30:30And we all have – we have feelings.
30:34A lot of people, like, want to forget that humans have feelings.
30:37And that we're vulnerable at times and we're sensitive.
30:41But that just makes us a better person.
30:43Mm-hmm.
30:44I believe that if you have –
30:46So right now, with all of this – I actually – there's a sweater that I got.
30:53Oh, yeah.
30:53Yesterday.
30:54And this sweater represents love, kindness, and community.
31:00And I'm helping support some women that go through tough times.
31:05And people can buy a sweater, donate it to people that need it, to women that need it.
31:11And when you wear a sweater with hearts on it, you feel the love.
31:16And the sweater's super soft.
31:18I love that.
31:20It looks so –
31:21It is.
31:22It's super soft.
31:23I love it.
31:23I'm like, oh, my God.
31:25Now, who inspired the creation of that?
31:29So I have a publicist, and her name is Amanda.
31:32And I'm not sure – she's – she introduced it to me.
31:37And she knows – she's getting to know me, and it falls right in my alley that I – because I like to inspire women.
31:46And I believe in kindness and loving and community.
31:51I'm fairly – I've been in Calgary for a couple years now, and I'm finding my community.
31:59It's been – it's taken time, but now I'm finding the people that I like being around.
32:03I want to thank Amanda for all the help that she's done with connecting with me and you.
32:08I think she's very inspirational.
32:11She's amazing.
32:12She is – she is your left foot.
32:16She's incredible.
32:19She was critiquing me a little, and I was going, oh, this woman.
32:23But you know what?
32:24I understand where she's coming from.
32:26She's trying to do exactly what she's working for you, and she's doing the right job.
32:32And I want to thank you, Amanda.
32:34I know you're listening.
32:36I know she's listening.
32:38And I want to thank her for being so wonderful and so helpful during the process.
32:44Because it's not always easy to get her.
32:46And you know why I had to get her?
32:47You know why I had to get her?
32:48My social media is so much I can't – it's too much.
32:52Oh, my gosh.
32:53How do you – how do you got – all right, you two ladies, how do you deal with so many people?
32:59Because I know you've got – you've got emails coming in left and right.
33:03You've got – and it was even when I contacted you, I know you had things compiled,
33:08so I was surprised that you were able to contact me now.
33:10I'm producing three documentaries, a full feature.
33:14I've got multiple roles.
33:16Oh, wait a minute.
33:18I still got this three.
33:20Oh, wow.
33:20I got a couple – like, I am busy.
33:25But my social media – I love the people in my social media.
33:29I've been learning.
33:31You're never too old to learn.
33:33I've been learning.
33:34I'm a Gen X.
33:35And I've been learning how to work my phone.
33:38And I've done all of my promotion, everything I have done on my own.
33:43And I have certain values when I'm on my social media.
33:47Kindness and respect are number one.
33:49If somebody says anything negative to me, they're gone.
33:52I will – I can control that and say goodbye.
33:55I will not allow that on my social media.
33:58But if you want to see what I do and share the love and the kind and the respect,
34:06I just like to show what people – I'm also trying to – part of my social media is I'm showing what it's like to be an actress
34:13and a producer and a mom with a daughter with special needs.
34:17Like, being what it's like.
34:19Like, it's not – it's not – just because I'm on red carpet, that's the bonus.
34:26That's like the little candy on top.
34:29That's not all the work that you do.
34:32And there's so many people, so many of the younger generation that don't understand that it takes hard work to get somewhere.
34:42Just sitting there, not doing anything, and expecting things to happen won't get you anywhere.
34:48You have to work things and make it happen in yourself.
34:52If you don't make things happen in yourself, they won't happen.
34:55It's just that simple.
34:57So I make every – I work really hard.
34:59But my social media, since I've been in L.A., it blew up.
35:04So I've struggled, and that's where I had to bring in someone to help me with – and what it is, is she just helps me with my posts,
35:15how we can create beautiful posts to share, because I have so much stuff that I'm trying to share, but I don't have – I'm busy.
35:23Yeah.
35:24And not only that, it's nice to collaborate with somebody else that has a different way of thinking and speaking and writing.
35:34Because you're going to write it.
35:36So I'm sure that when you write something and she goes over it, nope, that's not going to go.
35:41Nope, that's not going to go.
35:42Unless you write something, I change it.
35:44Well, once she's done proofreading and tells you what to do, it then sounds like it makes sense.
35:51And then it brings you across as the person that you really are.
35:57Well, we collaborate together.
35:59Like, that's what it is.
36:00And actually, we've developed a great friendship.
36:02And it's the collaboration of creating the social media.
36:07Because I'm slowly – I have – Facebook has capped me at 5,000 people, which is driving me nuts.
36:14So I actually have a business page that I'm slowly building.
36:18And then I'm also trying to get my YouTube app running.
36:22Like, I need help to build this.
36:24Because I have so much content that I want to share with people.
36:27Because it's cool.
36:28And I'm kind of funny.
36:29The YouTube that you're talking about, tell me a little bit about what you're going to do on there.
36:34So, like, the last couple days, I've started a journey for the last – started yesterday.
36:45So I have some action rules.
36:48So, which means I need to be fit.
36:50So, I've made a point of yesterday that I am – that's my fitness journey to get to a certain point.
37:01I know what I need to do.
37:02And it won't take me much.
37:05But it's just like every day I'll just throw a little snippet in.
37:08And part of it is also, what are you doing to motivate yourself?
37:13Like, I'm going out running, and I use kettlebells at home.
37:18But what do other people do to help motivate them to keep moving?
37:25Because as you get older, if you don't exercise, if you fall down, you're not going to get up.
37:30You're going to break a hip.
37:31You're going to break something.
37:32So, as you get older, and this is what I've learned, women need to look after their bodies because we will break our bones if we don't look after.
37:43Exercise will help keep your bones, and I add creatine.
37:47Because your body naturally makes creatine, but as women age, we lose it.
37:52And that's how we lose muscle mass.
37:54And if we lose muscle mass, then our bones become weak too.
37:59And I don't want that.
38:01I have too much to do.
38:03I don't have time for that.
38:05Yeah, you're too busy to.
38:07I don't have time for that.
38:08I got stuff to do.
38:10Everything's connected.
38:12But also, healthy diet.
38:15Now, how do you keep yourself on a healthy schedule?
38:19Because you need the right amount of sleep.
38:21You need the right amount of food that's good for your body.
38:24I eat a very high-protein diet.
38:26You do?
38:27Very high.
38:28I eat lots of chicken, eggs.
38:33If I have burgers, I have like a double patty.
38:36And I don't always eat the buns.
38:37But I definitely, I'll eat, I eat some carbs.
38:40I just don't, I'm not heavy in the carbs.
38:42I don't, I definitely don't eat enough fruits and vegetables.
38:45So I actually have to drink green stuff because I need that because I suck at eating fruits and vegetables.
38:52But some of it actually will help you to lose weight in a healthy way.
39:00But to lose weight, you have to be active.
39:02It's not about the food.
39:04It's the activity that you have to do.
39:06You have to be active all day long if you want to lose weight.
39:10You have to build muscle.
39:11And you have to get your engine running.
39:15If you don't get your engine running, it's not going to burn.
39:18You were also talking about doing some stunts in a movie.
39:25I did some.
39:27I think you're daring.
39:28I think you're amazing.
39:31Because some stunts I'd be afraid to do.
39:34I mean, maybe a shooting scene or something.
39:35But, like, there are going to be some things that, you know what I'm saying, that you're willing to do that I wouldn't dare to do.
39:43I'm willing to do whatever it takes, except I'm afraid of heights.
39:47So that's my kind of line.
39:50Oh, okay.
39:52If it's true, I can be on the roof of a building and I'm fine.
39:55But if it's, don't ask me to jump out of an airplane.
39:57That's not happening.
39:59You'll be on the entire state building.
40:01No.
40:02No.
40:03Would you ever dare to go up in, like, a hot air balloon or is that, like, something like that?
40:08I happen to know hot air balloons.
40:10Actually, hot air balloons are beautiful.
40:12They're so peaceful.
40:14A hot air balloon is different.
40:17Like, but I won't bungee jump.
40:20Oh.
40:21Yeah, because that's a quick.
40:24You've got to be, like, so fast.
40:26No, you're not.
40:27So I do a lot of hiking.
40:30I also hike on mountains.
40:31So there's a funny thing that happens is when I get near the top, I get a physical reaction to the height.
40:39My body literally freaks out.
40:42And the last mountain I climbed was Ha Leng with my girlfriend.
40:46And partway, we were almost at the peak.
40:48And I felt like I could fall.
40:51So it took me half an hour for my body to go through this.
40:55I went through the crying, the anger, the hap, like, these emotions.
41:00I had to let them go.
41:02And once I let them go, I was able to actually get up on top and stand up.
41:09But for me, it's a physical reaction.
41:12But when you did that, finally, when you finally get to stand up, it's a release.
41:18No, I was terrified.
41:20Oh, you are?
41:21I was terrified.
41:23Actually, what helped me is there was a chipmunk that was up top that decided to try and jump in my lap and scared me.
41:29Like, I told you animals, come to me.
41:31That's the thing.
41:32It's you and animals.
41:33Wherever you're around, you've got to prepare for animals to come right up to you.
41:36I'm videoing it.
41:37This chipmunk starts coming up to me.
41:39And I told him to go fuck himself because he scared me.
41:43Throw him a peanut butter sandwich.
41:45We're not allowed to swear, but I do.
41:49We were at that one slide.
41:52I think that, wow, that's amazing.
41:55What about water?
41:57How are you on water?
41:59I love water.
42:00I love swimming.
42:02I could do a kayaking in a movie and fell over.
42:05I grew up swimming in rivers.
42:07Rivers and lakes.
42:09I love swimming.
42:12So you've got skills.
42:13That's no big deal.
42:14That's awesome.
42:16So when I was younger, I used to try and hold my breath underwater as long as possible.
42:20So whenever I was younger, I thought my brain was like a dolphin.
42:24I'd see how long I could stay under and, like, just maneuver around.
42:28And in a pool, I would, you know, the hula hoops?
42:31I would take a weight and I'd take hula hoops and I'd weigh them at the bottom of the pool.
42:35And I'd try and get, like, three of them and I'd swim through them like an obstacle course.
42:41And I'd usually also have some diving toys and I'd pick them up and see if I could go as long as possible without breathing.
42:47Now, what about a Western?
42:52Hey, what do you think?
42:54I think you'd be absolutely amazing.
42:56It'd be amazing because I ride horses, too.
42:58I can ride horses.
42:59And I think you could sling a gun pretty quick, too.
43:05I think you'd be really, really good in the Western.
43:10I lived in the Northwest Territories.
43:13Yeah.
43:13And I live close to the Arctic Circle.
43:16And up there, there's grizzlies, blacks.
43:18And when you go out in the bush, you actually have to pack.
43:23Yes.
43:23You would bring a shotgun.
43:24And, yeah, there were slugs and I could shoot a shotgun.
43:28I'm not afraid.
43:30I might have gotten some animals myself.
43:34I got myself a six-foot-backer that is amazing.
43:38You do the right thing.
43:40Yeah, you're not shooting for sport.
43:41You're shooting for, like, food.
43:43No, I would only shoot for food or protection.
43:46That's the only time.
43:48That makes sense.
43:49And by the way you lived, also.
43:51Growing up on the farm, that's what we did.
43:54Right.
43:54We would fill the freezers with moose and deer.
43:57Well, they taught you the skills for survival.
44:00Mm-hmm.
44:01You know what I mean?
44:01What if there was an apocalypse?
44:05You know?
44:06I don't know anybody else, but I know where I'm going.
44:09I know where I'm going.
44:10I'm finding you, Sherry.
44:11You're going to protect everybody.
44:14I can totally see you.
44:15I know where everybody wants to follow me.
44:17Don't follow me because I get lost.
44:21I miss the trails.
44:22You've got the gun, girl, so.
44:25Yep.
44:26I can shoot a gun, but I'm afraid of the fallback.
44:29Like, you know, like.
44:32But yes.
44:32My grandpa had a gun, and so I was.
44:36And his gun, it was a 303, a British 303.
44:40And it was a military issue.
44:42And when I would shoot it, so some guns actually have foam on the bottom, on the butt plate.
44:48This one's brass.
44:49So it would slam my shoulder like a mule just kicked me.
44:53And I usually, I could get about three or four shots off, and then I was pretty well done because it hurt.
44:58Wow.
44:59Wow.
45:00So, but being able to do that, see, I'd be afraid to do that.
45:04I'd be afraid at first to do that.
45:07I'm not afraid much.
45:08When they give me the challenge and I have to do it, then I do it.
45:12But to be honest, I'd be more afraid to do it at first.
45:16You know what I'm saying?
45:17Like, a handgun, not so afraid.
45:20But like one of those big guns, yeah.
45:24Yeah, I think that, yeah.
45:26Anyway, Sherry, so, wow.
45:29You've got some wonderful things going on.
45:31You've got some incredible stuff that's happening right now.
45:34You just said something about you're going to be in another magazine.
45:39Yes.
45:39Oh, yeah.
45:41It's a Calgary magazine.
45:44It's an Aspenwood neighborhood magazine.
45:48And I'm on the cover.
45:50It's beautiful.
45:51You're on the cover.
45:52I haven't seen it yet.
45:55I get a copy of it tomorrow.
45:58Aww.
45:59So everybody, go to Sherry's Facebook page.
46:02Go to, what other media pages do you use?
46:05Google me.
46:07Just Google me.
46:08Because I have Facebook, Instagram.
46:11My Facebook, I'm trying to get Sherry Sever's Actress.
46:13That's my business page that we're slowly getting set up.
46:16I'm on LinkedIn, Threads.
46:20I'm not very good at TikTok and YouTube.
46:26I think it's SherrySever's 51 is my YouTube.
46:31But you're going to be using that soon.
46:34And you're going to be doing the inspirational on the weight loss and working towards, and there'll be other things you'll do on there, I'm sure.
46:42I'm actually cast it in a really big film for next year.
46:46I'm super excited.
46:48Where the sweetgrass grows.
46:50They have Sunny King in it.
46:52It's beautiful.
46:53It's a beautiful film.
46:54It's the, right, he's the producer.
46:57And, oh, what was her name?
46:58Lori Roberts.
46:59I can't say her middle name, but she wrote the story.
47:02And I guess there's a couple books that she wrote about it.
47:07And I guess I'll play one of the characters.
47:09I'm so excited.
47:11Now, is Tommy going to be in the movie too, or is he just producing it and directing it?
47:15I don't know.
47:16That'll be interesting.
47:17Probably.
47:19That'll be interesting.
47:20You guys are not being in it.
47:21I think that's wonderful that you two are working together on and off, like what you're doing.
47:27I mean, you are independent.
47:28You are Sherry Severs, and you are yourself.
47:30When Tom and I get together with our podcast, like we try and get together as much as possible.
47:36Like when I'm in L.A., we film in studio as much as possible.
47:40And now he's trying to do in-studio work with some people, and I'm doing some in-studio work here, and we're putting it together.
47:49Like we still collaborate together, and actually next month he's coming to Calgary, and we're going to just like slam out a bunch of podcasts.
47:58Because we get together, and we're funny.
48:01Oh, I can't.
48:02You both have really great, bubbly personalities, so it's going to be fun.
48:08I can't wait to see your podcast.
48:09That's going to be fun.
48:11That are out now.
48:15They're out there.
48:16Through Samira's network, I think.
48:19Oh, nice.
48:20Everybody, pay attention to what she's saying, because this is really important, I think.
48:25And I can't wait to see what you guys come up with, because you're talking to, you're talking about.
48:31What's coming next?
48:33Yeah, what's coming next?
48:34I'm just waiting for the next phone call.
48:37And please give her a call, because she needs work, and she wants to work, and she's willing to be there.
48:42She's not one of those hard to work with actresses.
48:46She's going to be an actress that you can count on, that will be there, and do the job at your will and leisure, and what you want from her.
48:59Mm-hmm.
49:00That's so great.
49:05Well, I don't know what that was.
49:06I'm hearing bells.
49:09Sorry.
49:09There's an angel.
49:10There's an angel being born.
49:12So, Sherry, have we covered most everything that you want to talk about?
49:18Is there something that we're not, that we might be forgetting, or?
49:24I'm just looking here.
49:27That's all right.
49:27Oh, yeah.
49:28I'm in this other magazine.
49:32It never ends.
49:33That's amazing.
49:33It's called, I'm Here With, there.
49:40All right.
49:40Right there.
49:41Right there.
49:42And this is Paul Brandt.
49:44Okay.
49:44I'm actually, oh, I keep blurring my face.
49:47So, I'm in multiple editions of I'm Here With magazine as well.
49:51And Paul Brandt actually is, I've been, I wanted to help support him with human trafficking.
49:59He's been working on that lately, his project.
50:03And that's pretty important here.
50:06Oh, yes.
50:07It's worldwide.
50:09Save our children.
50:10It's saving our children.
50:12It's just the children.
50:13It's women, too.
50:14It's young men, young women, all people are getting human trafficking.
50:19He should put a movie together on human trafficking, I think.
50:23He's working on a project right now.
50:25I think that's a great idea because people are getting kidnapped.
50:29Just going from their store to their car and somebody will do something, some bad person
50:37will do something like, leave something on their window under their windshield wiper
50:44and they start to get that off and that's when they're getting grabbed.
50:50Or they could put money down on with something on it.
50:52You pick up the money and you're laced.
50:56Yeah, because you're distracted by what you are visually seeing.
51:00And then there's a bad guy that's already playing this five times over.
51:03Yeah, but it might not be just a bad guy.
51:05It could be bad women, too.
51:07It's usually, it's never just one person involved.
51:11It's always multiple people that have a plan.
51:16I'm so glad you're working on that because it's so scary.
51:19And it frightens me to hear when children go missing and it could be that as an involvement.
51:25I mean, we all lose people in the world, but it hits home when it's somebody that you know.
51:34A lot of times you're going to think, oh, it's nobody I know.
51:38But it could be your neighbor.
51:40It could be your child.
51:40It could be your mom.
51:43There's a young boy that was missing when I was younger.
51:45His name is Michael Donahue out of Victoria.
51:47He was taken from a playground and he lived across the street from the playground.
51:53He's never been found.
51:55And he is, this is a famous thing that happened with him.
52:00And he's still, I mean, I don't know what his age would be now if he'd not be 30.
52:07But he was a young boy, like four or five, maybe three.
52:13He was young.
52:14He was very young.
52:15And he's, you know, this is, and that was just one of the first ones that I knew of that happened.
52:22And, you know.
52:24Right.
52:24And then right now they're looking for two small children.
52:27I don't know where it's coming out of, but I was watching a little bit about it.
52:32And they've been searching for two small children that walked off, but they don't know if they walked off.
52:36So it's one of those things where it's happening daily.
52:38But people like you and that gentleman you mentioned, you're working on this.
52:45Paul Brandt.
52:46He's a country singer.
52:48Oh, for real?
52:49He's a country singer.
52:51Paul Brandt.
52:51He sings Alberta Bound.
52:53I hope.
52:55Do you sing, Sherry?
52:57No.
52:58In the shower and in my car.
53:01You never know.
53:02I mean.
53:03If I'm really forced to it.
53:04I've had to do karaoke.
53:05I'm like, I'm okay.
53:06Well, like if you were in a group of people, you could sing in like choir.
53:11I'm okay with a group.
53:12Yeah.
53:13Like choir style.
53:15That's.
53:16I don't mind.
53:17I have some in the back up, but I don't see myself as a singer.
53:20Like my voice is just, to me it's, but somebody else might like it.
53:27You know what I've learned being an actress?
53:29That what the voice that you hear, you hear your voice through the bones in your, your head.
53:35But what other people hear is not the same as what you hear.
53:40And what about when you're hearing the recording back?
53:43That's the sound that everybody hears.
53:46So when you people see you on camera, that's what people see you like.
53:51Not what you see yourself in the mirror.
53:53That's true.
53:54So on camera, that's what you, everybody sees you like.
53:58Right.
53:59Wow.
54:00What can we, what else can we cover before we, we have to shut off for the day?
54:05I don't know.
54:06Oh no.
54:07You know, I've been so honored to have you on.
54:10It's been so much fun talking with you.
54:13I look forward to more.
54:14And you have an IMDb page.
54:16I think everybody should go to.
54:19Yes, I do.
54:21It's yeah.
54:22It keeps growing every time I turn around.
54:25Isn't that amazing?
54:27And it's wonderful.
54:28You know what my first movie was I was ever in?
54:31Rocky IV.
54:33Oh really?
54:34I was three rows from the ring.
54:36I was an American audience and I got caught.
54:39I was, and I didn't know, this was my first experience in film and I was a teenager and
54:46I went there because they were going to feed me and I didn't care about the film.
54:50I just wanted the food.
54:52So I wore this shirt and note and partway through they go, anybody wearing black?
54:58And so there's like probably 20 of us and we all put our arms up and they say, all of
55:03us, all of you follow us.
55:05So in the front row, everybody was in color, the two rows.
55:09And then they put everybody in black behind them.
55:13I didn't know this then.
55:15Now I do.
55:16Everybody in black, you could edit their faces out.
55:19So I was three rows from the ring from Sylvester Stallone and Dolph Lundgren and also the
55:26lady that played Sylvester Stallone's wife and then the referee and all the people there.
55:31And I got edited out.
55:33But I got to watch it.
55:35You were there.
55:36But you were there.
55:37Learning is a huge thing.
55:39Whenever you're on set, you pay attention to what everybody's doing because you never
55:43know.
55:43You might need to hold that boom.
55:44You might need to hold that, uh, the shade.
55:47You might need to hold, you know, something to add more light.
55:50You might need to be in passing, scouting.
55:52I've done writing.
55:54I've found money for films.
55:58Whatever it takes.
55:59Lots of pitch decks.
56:01That's what I said.
56:01You were on fire.
56:02When I started this interview, I said, Sherry Seaver's off fire.
56:07She's, you're blazing saddles.
56:09You're doing so many wonderful things.
56:11I'm so honored, so proud, so happy that you came on today.
56:15It means a lot to me.
56:17And I want to say thank you from the top and the bottom of my heart.
56:21And Amanda, thank you for helping us.
56:24And Tommy, we love you.
56:27Always love Tommy.
56:29We're not leaving Tommy out.
56:30We love Tommy.
56:32And he's doing some incredible things, too.
56:34So, um, wow.
56:36Now, we're out of time, but Sherry, can you quickly give your contact?
56:40Just Google me, IMDB.
56:43I also have a management, Angela Anderson, International Talent Management.
56:49Um, and my publicist, Amanda Bentley.
56:54Awesome.
56:55Thank you so much.
56:57It's been a great fun, honey.
56:59All right, everybody.
57:00That's our show for this week.
57:01I want to thank you all for tuning in and listening.
57:04And I hope you got some awesome information.
57:07And if any of you want to hire Sherry, she's available.
57:11And thank you all so much.
57:13And we'll catch up with you next time.
57:16We'll see you next time.
57:46We'll see you next time.
