00:002nd Timothy chapter 1

00:04From Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by God's will,

00:10sent to proclaim the promised life which we have in union with Christ Jesus.

00:16To Timothy, my dear son,

00:19may God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord give you grace, mercy, and peace.

00:26Thanksgiving and encouragement.

00:28I give thanks to God, whom I serve with a clear conscience, as my ancestors did.

00:36I thank Him as I remember you always in my prayers night and day.

00:41I remember your tears, and I want to see you very much, so that I may be filled with joy.

00:48I remember the sincere faith you have,

00:51the kind of faith that your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice also had.

00:56I am sure that you have it also.

01:00For this reason, I remind you to keep alive the gift that God gave you when I laid my hands on you.

01:08For the Spirit that God has given us does not make us timid.

01:13Instead, His Spirit fills us with power, love, and self-control.

01:18Do not be ashamed, then, of witnessing for our Lord,

01:23neither be ashamed of me, a prisoner for Christ's sake.

01:27Instead, take your part in suffering for the good news,

01:31as God gives you the strength for it.

01:34He saved us and called us to be His own people,

01:38not because of what we have done,

01:40but because of His own purpose and grace.

01:43He gave us this grace by means of Christ Jesus before the beginning of time.

01:50But now it has been revealed to us through the coming of our Savior, Christ Jesus.

01:56He has ended the power of death,

01:58and through the gospel has revealed immortal life.

02:02God has appointed me as an apostle and teacher to proclaim the good news,

02:07and it is for this reason that I suffer these things.

02:13But I am still full of confidence,

02:16because I know whom I have trusted,

02:18and I am sure that He is able to keep safe until that day what He has entrusted to me.

02:26Hold firmly to the true words that I taught you,

02:30as the example for you to follow,

02:32and remain in the faith and love that are ours in union with Christ Jesus.

02:39Through the power of the Holy Spirit,

02:41who lives in us,

02:43keep the good things that have been entrusted to you.

02:47You know that everyone in the province of Asia,

02:50including Phygelus and Hermogenes,

02:53has deserted me.

02:55May the Lord show mercy to the family of Onesiphorus,

02:59because he cheered me up many times.

03:01He was not ashamed that I am in prison,

03:04but as soon as he arrived in Rome,

03:07he started looking for me until he found me.

03:10May the Lord grant him his mercy on that day.

03:14And you know very well how much he did for me in Ephesus.

03:22Chapter 2

03:23A Loyal Soldier of Christ Jesus

03:26As for you, my son,

03:28be strong through the grace that is ours in union with Christ Jesus.

03:34Take the teachings that you heard me proclaim

03:37in the presence of many witnesses,

03:40and entrust them to reliable people,

03:43who will be able to teach others also.

03:46Take your part in suffering

03:48as a loyal soldier of Christ Jesus.

03:51A soldier on active duty

03:53wants to please his commanding officer,

03:56and so does not get mixed up

03:58in the affairs of civilian life.

04:01An athlete who runs in a race

04:03cannot win the prize unless he obeys the rules.

04:08The farmer who has done the hard work

04:10should have the first share of the harvest.

04:14Think about what I am saying,

04:16because the Lord will enable you to understand it all.

04:19Remember Jesus Christ,

04:22who was raised from death,

04:24who was a descendant of David,

04:26as is taught in the good news I preach.

04:30Because I preach the good news,

04:32I suffer,

04:33and I am even chained like a criminal.

04:36But the word of God is not in chains,

04:39and so I endure everything

04:41for the sake of God's chosen people,

04:44in order that they too

04:46may obtain the salvation

04:47that comes through Christ Jesus

04:49and brings eternal glory.

04:52This is a true saying.

04:55If we have died with him,

04:57we shall also live with him.

04:59If we continue to endure,

05:02we shall also rule with him.

05:04If we deny him,

05:06he also will deny us.

05:08If we are not faithful,

05:10he remains faithful,

05:12because he cannot be false to himself.

05:16An approved worker.

05:18Remind your people of this,

05:20and give them a solemn warning

05:22in God's presence

05:23not to fight over words.

05:26It does no good,

05:28but only ruins the people who listen.

05:31Do your best to win full approval

05:33in God's sight.

05:35As a worker who is not ashamed of his work,

05:38one who correctly teaches

05:40the message of God's truth.

05:43Keep away from profane

05:45and foolish discussions,

05:47which only drive people

05:48farther away from God.

05:50Such teaching is like an open sore

05:53that eats away the flesh.

05:56Two men who have taught such things

05:58are Hymenaeus and Philetus.

06:00They have left the way of truth

06:02and are upsetting the faith

06:04of some believers

06:05by saying that our resurrection

06:07has already taken place.

06:10But the solid foundation

06:11that God has laid

06:13cannot be shaken.

06:15And on it are written these words,

06:18The Lord knows those who are his,

06:21and those who say

06:22that they belong to the Lord

06:23must turn away from wrongdoing.

06:26In a large house,

06:28there are dishes and bowls

06:30of all kinds.

06:31Some are made of silver and gold,

06:34others of wood and clay.

06:37Some are for special occasions,

06:39others for ordinary use.

06:42Those who make themselves clean

06:44from all those evil things

06:46will be used for special purposes

06:48because they are dedicated

06:50and useful to their master,

06:53ready to be used for every good deed.

06:57Avoid the passions of youth

06:58and strive for righteousness,

07:01faith,

07:02love,

07:03and peace,

07:05together with those

07:06who with a pure heart

07:07call out to the Lord for help.

07:10But keep away from foolish

07:11and ignorant arguments.

07:14You know that they end up in quarrels.

07:17As the Lord's servant,

07:18you must not quarrel.

07:20You must be kind toward all.

07:23A good and patient teacher

07:24who is gentle

07:26as you correct your opponents,

07:28for it may be

07:29that God will give them

07:30the opportunity

07:31to repent

07:32and come to know the truth.

07:35And then they will come

07:36to their senses

07:37and escape from the trap

07:39of the devil

07:39who had caught them

07:41and made them

07:42obey his will.

07:47Chapter 3

07:48The Last Days

07:50Remember that there will be

07:53difficult times

07:54in the last days.

07:56People will be selfish,

07:58greedy,

07:59boastful,

08:00and conceited.

08:01They will be insulting,

08:03disobedient to their parents,

08:05ungrateful,

08:06and irreligious.

08:08They will be unkind,

08:10merciless,

08:11slanderers,

08:12violent,

08:13and fierce.

08:14They will hate the good.

08:16They will be treacherous,

08:18reckless,

08:18and swollen with pride.

08:20They will love pleasure

08:21rather than God.

08:23They will hold

08:24to the outward form

08:25of our religion

08:26but reject its real power.

08:29Keep away from such people.

08:31Some of them

08:32go into people's houses

08:33and gain control

08:35over weak women

08:36who are burdened

08:37by the guilt

08:38of their sins

08:39and driven by

08:40all kinds of desires.

08:42Women who are always

08:43trying to learn

08:44but who can never

08:46come to know the truth.

10:01who your teachers were

10:03and you remember

10:04that ever since

10:05you were a child

10:06you have known

10:07the Holy Scriptures

10:08which are able

10:09to give you

10:10the wisdom

10:10that leads

10:11to salvation

10:12through faith

10:13in Christ Jesus.

10:15All Scripture

10:15is inspired

10:16by God

10:17and is useful

10:18for teaching

10:19the truth

10:20rebuking error

10:21correcting faults

10:23and giving instruction

10:24for right living

10:25so that the person

10:27who serves God

10:28may be fully qualified

10:29and equipped

10:30to do every kind

10:32of good deed.

10:37Chapter 4

10:38In the presence

10:39of God

10:40and of Christ Jesus

10:42who will judge

10:43the living

10:43and the dead

10:44and because

10:45he is coming

10:46to rule as king

10:47I solemnly urge you

10:49to preach

10:50the message

10:51to insist

10:52upon proclaiming it

10:54whether the time

10:55is right or not

10:56to convince

10:57reproach

10:58and encourage

10:59as you teach

11:00with all patience

11:03when people

11:04will not listen

11:05to sound doctrine

11:06but will follow

11:07their own desires

11:08and will collect
