00:00The Philippines improved its ranking in the 2024 World Press Freedom Index,
00:05climbing to 116th out of 180 countries, its highest position in the past 20 years.
00:13This improvement has been attributed to strengthened protection for media workers
00:17under the Marcos Jr. administration.
00:20The palace highlighted this development as proof that the president upholds freedom of expression
00:26and supports responsible journalism. As part of these efforts, the government has also intensified
00:32efforts to combat the spread of misinformation and fake news with the Department of Information
00:37and Communications Technology, or DICT, and Google Philippines partnerships to enhance
00:43the identification of AI-generated content. Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police,
00:49or PNP, has established a joint anti-fake news action committee, while the presidential
00:54communications office, or PCO, is working closely to develop regulations that will hold
01:00social media platforms accountable for the spread of disinformation.
01:10Be assured that we are doubling down on our commitment to protect our journalists
01:18and to uphold press freedom. We stand with you, hand in hand, in this fight.
01:23It shows that the president respects one's rights of expression and the responsible journalism.
