Leeds Rhinos scrum-half Jack Sinfield reflects on the 17-4 win against St Helens at Magic Weekend in Newcastle.
Transcript
00:00Congratulations, Jack. How good does that feel, beating St Helens here at Magic Weekend?
00:07It's massive for us, especially on the back of last week. We were a bit disappointed
00:11with how we finished the game. On a big occasion like this in a great stadium, it's always
00:16nice to get the two points, especially in a tight contest like that. It feels a lot better.
00:21It's a step forward, isn't it, being able to see a close-ish game out like that after
00:26the Warrington and the whole KR defeats? Yeah, definitely. I think it's been a little
00:31bit of a theme for us. We feel like we're putting ourselves in the position to win games and
00:36sort of let ourselves down a little bit at the back end. It's been a big focus point for
00:40us this week, making sure we stick at it for 80. I feel like we did that today even though
00:45a few things went against us and we put ourselves under the pump a little bit, I thought we
00:50stuck at it really well for 80 and managed to see it at home.
00:52That style of football you played in the first half, particularly the first 20 minutes,
00:56was really good to watch. Is that something you've been working on and set out to do today?
01:01Yeah, definitely. We spoke about moving the ball around early and I thought we did that
01:05really well. Obviously, we've got some very skilful outside backs, so any time they can
01:09get the ball in space, it's a positive for us.
01:11The dropped goal, I thought, was a really clever, smart play. What were you thinking behind
01:16that? Obviously, it's good game management, isn't it, at six points up?
01:20Yeah, I just felt like we were under the pump a little bit. Obviously, we defended quite a lot
01:24of sets on our own goal line, so I think it was important just for us to get a reset,
01:29take the pressure off us a little bit, getting more than one score ahead.
01:33Yeah, just resetting, starting again because we got a little bit frantic for a period there,
01:37so, yeah, that was the thinking round.
01:40And a weekend without a game, and when you come back against Hull, there could be some
01:45pivotal players back in the Reckoning, so things are looking up?
01:49Yeah, definitely. Obviously, it's always good to go into a week off on the back of a win.
01:54Now we can sort of look forward to playing against Hull. They're going really well at the minute,
01:58so getting some key players back for us will be really good for us, and yeah, looking forward
02:03to them boys being back.
