00:00Hello, Bam Bam, King Dracula, spelled backwards.
00:02King Dracula spelled backwards.
00:04What the F?
00:05Wake up, everybody.
00:06Wake up, everybody.
00:08Jackie, Bam Bam.
00:09Jackie, Jackie, Bam Bam.
00:10Jackie, Bam Bam.
00:11Jackie, Jackie, Bam Bam.
00:12Yeah, I don't think Preston and Steve are going to get any sleep tonight because, yes,
00:15it's you and me until the midnight hour, and it's all about bringing non-perishable food
00:20items down here to this big, big tent.
00:23And I can't, I feel really weird with these screens behind me.
00:26I think they get bigger and bigger every year.
00:28They're so big, they can get my nose in it tonight, so we're off to a flying start.
00:33Like I said, I have some mummers here, and there's been a lot of talk on social media
00:37that Jackie, Bam Bam's having a mummers night, and I think this is the first time ever we've
00:41had some mummers at Preston and Steve's camp out.
00:44A couple days earlier, I mentioned the privilege seats, which are up front, and Casey Boyer,
00:50Yo Romano, Marissa, Preston and Steve, Nick McWayne, they picked somebody out of the audience,
00:56and they sit in this, what is it, Ashley Home Store, beautiful couch in front of us.
01:02I see you over there, my friend.
01:04This place is rocking tonight.
01:05So I saw some people in a mummers suit earlier in the week, and they represented the Hegeman
01:09String Band.
01:09And speaking of Hegeman, we had the String Band, Philadelphia String Band Association
01:13tonight with us, the president, Mr. John Pignotti, and I hear he has some goodies for us.
01:20But what the mummers did this year is they put all 15 String Bands into a hat, and they
01:25pulled a group, a club out of the hat.
01:28And this year, we have the award-winning Duffy String Band, The Pride of Fishtown.
01:32Am I right there, Mom Colleen, sitting next to me?
01:34And Captain Jake Kudrick?
01:36That's right.
01:37There we go.
01:39Jake, I don't want you to be shy.
01:41You know, I got three first prizes in the handsome costume division in the fancies.
01:47You took fourth prize, fourth place prize as a captain in the String Band.
01:54What's it take to be a captain in the String Band?
01:56Man, you're only 12 years old, Jake.
02:01What's it take to be a captain?
02:02How did you get to be a captain of the Duffy String Band, man?
02:07I became captain from my dad.
02:11Yeah, a legend and all.
02:13And your mom is part of the band, too.
02:15And Duffy String Band is the, is it the first band with two female drummers?
02:21Is that how it started, or co-ed?
02:23First band with an all-female drum section, and first and only band with two women in the
02:27String Band Association Hall of Fame.
02:30Unbelievable.
02:30Unbelievable.
02:33So where's your clubhouse at?
02:35Our clubhouse is at 2230 Cedar Street in Fishtown.
02:38I saw Jake out, was it last week?
02:41He was out there with a bucket, and you guys are collecting money, just like we're collecting
02:44food tonight for Preston Steve's camp out in it.
02:46That's how we get some of these beautiful suits that you ladies and gentlemen are wearing
02:50from the Duffy String Band tonight.
02:52So what were you doing?
02:53How were you collecting money and all for your presentation this year, I should say?
02:58Um, we had our band go out to the corner of an intersection and a couple marshals stand
03:10in the street for donations.
03:15Okay.
03:16So Jake, when do you guys rehearse?
03:18And how, and if, you know, I'm a 12-year-older and I want to be in the Mummers just like you,
03:22how would I do that and I want to join the Duffy String Band?
03:24Well, we practice on Sundays and Wednesdays.
03:29Mm-hmm.
03:29The, if you want to go and get into Duffy String Band, you need to contact.
03:40Just stop by the corner.
03:42What's the website, Mom?
03:44eduffiestringband.com.
03:46eduffiestringband.com.
03:47Jake, what school do you go to real quick?
03:49Strathaven Middle School.
03:50You're 12 years old and you're a captain in string bands.
03:54How much school do you miss, Mom?
03:57Should I ask them that?
03:59We may or may not be unveiled January 2nd.
04:02Okay.
04:02So you, the Duffy String Band, the first string band, this is the start of something very special.
04:08The Mummers get involved with Preston Steve's camp out and you guys were chosen.
04:13And Mike Crash-Riggler, he's also here representing the Aqua String Band.
04:17He's playing with you guys tonight.
04:18I saw a couple of jackets from the South Philadelphia String Band.
04:21And the legendary Broomall String Band, they're now going to be called the Jersey String Band, I believe, up the street this year.
04:27That's correct.
04:28Am I right on that?
04:29Yes.
04:29Okay.
04:30The Broomall family is retiring after several generations of parading and their captain, Pat Walton, is moving forward under Jersey String Band.
04:37That's great.
04:38And I always say Broomall String Band.
04:39They're from Broomall, but they're not from Broomall.
04:41They're from National Park.
04:42It's crazy.
04:43And we're all going to get crazy tonight.
04:45So hang out.
04:46The Duffy String Band are going to be performing tonight.
04:48We're going to take a quick break.
04:49We're going to get John Pignotti, the president of the Philadelphia String Band Association, on board with us.
04:55Johnny has a nice donation to Preston Steve's camp out.
04:58And we're going to be here until midnight, so let's make it happen, gang, on 93.3 WMMR, live from the Vamp Out.
05:05Preston and Steve's camp out for hunger, benefiting Phil abundance, collecting food for families in need for over 20 years.
05:11Obviously, this event could not be possible without your donations.
05:15And an event this large is not possible without the generous contributions from our sponsor and vendor partners, including NSM Insurance and Energy Transfer.
05:23The challenge of fighting hunger in our community remains.
05:26And with your help, we will continue to fight.
05:28Our sincere thanks from 93.3 WMMR, putting Philly first.
05:34Welcome to the animal kingdom.
05:36Today in Australia, we visit a kangaroo and her big joey.
05:40Mom, I think I'm growing.
05:43Yeah, you're getting too big.
