00:00All right, time now for artist number four for the QYK guitar poll.
00:04This one was on me to book.
00:06Yes.
00:06So I will let you know that this is a dude that is someone you know
00:11and maybe someone you even voted for at one point.
00:14Oh, okay.
00:16He was born in a small town of Victorville, California.
00:20He has worked as a heavy machinery operator
00:22and even was in a reggae band at one point.
00:25Ooh, wow.
00:26Come on.
00:27Yeah, man.
00:27All right.
00:28And he became famous when he won the 19th season of American Idol.
00:35You know his song, 23.
00:36Ladies and gentlemen, Chase Beckham.
00:38Yeah, love it.
00:41Good call.
00:42Now I'm 23 and there ain't nobody who can drink like me.
00:47Soon I'll be 24 and the Lord knows that I can't drink no more.
00:53Chase Beckham, what is up?
00:55What's going on, y'all?
00:56How you guys doing?
00:56We're doing great, man.
00:58We're glad to have you on the show.
00:59We're glad to have you on the QYK Guitar Bowl.
01:02This is going to be awesome.
01:03Yeah, man.
01:04I can't wait.
01:04I've been looking forward to this one.
01:06Yeah.
01:06This is going to be a great one.
01:07You've got some great artists on there with you as well.
01:10I've got to say, you know, you're going to be playing acoustically.
01:14Is it more nerve-wracking to play one of these shows,
01:17or was it more nerve-wracking to play in front of, you know, the world on American Idol?
01:23Billions of people, yeah.
01:26I don't know.
01:26I still get nervous every time I have to sing in front of people.
01:29So, you know, most of the time I just close my eyes and fight through the stage fright, you know, regardless of how big the crowd is.
01:36Really?
01:36You still get stage fright?
01:37Oh, yeah, for sure.
01:39I mean, absolutely.
01:40No, I wouldn't say, like, every time I've performed, but most times.
01:43And the smaller the room, you know, you have a smaller crowd of, you know, 50 or a couple hundred people in front of you.
01:48That seems like a lot more frightening to me than a big crowd of thousands of people.
01:53Well, that's because you can see everybody's reaction, you know?
01:56Oh, yeah.
01:56Like, if you're heard, you sing, or if you miss a note, you kind of can see it in real time.
02:01Yeah, you can hear them when they're talking smack, you know, and it's a lot more real.
02:04But, you know what, Chase, that's so great about the guitar pool is because you never know what's going to happen on stage.
02:11And if you flub up, people just think it's part of the show, you know?
02:16I mean, you can blame it on, oh, I had too much to drink or too many shots or whatever.
02:21I mean, like, anything goes at our QYK guitar pool, that's for sure.
02:26That's what I've learned is you just got to keep on playing.
02:28So, you know, I'll just, I have fun doing this kind of stuff.
02:32And that's, it's one of my favorite things, you know, out here in Nashville.
02:35It's such a big thing, having guitar pools.
02:38So, it's always awesome to get to, you know, share the stage with the other artists and listen to the stories and songs.
02:45I ask this question to all the artists because I just find it very interesting for me.
02:50So, it's kind of a selfish question.
02:51But what are some advantages that you find when it comes to just being stripped down, playing acoustically, like things that you enjoy about that?
02:59It gives you a lot more leeway to, you know, just sing songs that you want to sing.
03:04And if there's something that you've been working on or there's something that, you know, maybe you haven't showed your band yet.
03:10And maybe you don't have all the bells and whistles for, but you could still share it with people.
03:14And, you know, it just kind of gives you a lot more freedom, I guess.
03:18Do you play your songs differently sometimes when it's just you?
03:21I'm sure I do, you know, because whenever I'm playing with my band, I have a metronome in my ear that tells me how fast to play.
03:27And when I don't have that, I'm all over the place.
03:31So, I always get off stage whenever I do some acoustic.
03:34If any of my boys are there, they'll tell me, man, you played 23 really fast tonight.
03:38It sounded cool.
03:39And I'm like, I did?
03:40I thought I just played it in the same way that I always, but I think I just get ahead of myself.
03:44That's great.
03:45So, one of the things that I love about you is that when you won American Idol, you actually played your single 23.
03:53It's a song that you wrote, and it was like the first time that had ever happened on the show.
04:00Is there going to be maybe some debuts of some other new songs maybe that you'll do on our guitar pool?
04:06Or are you going to do just like fun stuff and play covers from some of the stuff that you did like on Idol?
04:10Because you were playing Coldplay, you were playing Incubus, I mean, Brian Adams, you're doing everything.
04:16Yeah, I definitely covered a lot of genres on Idol, but you have to, you know, because you're, like, there was nights like Disney night, you know, I didn't know what to do.
04:28And like Oscar night, I couldn't, like, you know, didn't know what kind of songs to sing.
04:32And, yeah, you just kind of have to pick from this, you know, this lineup of songs that a lot of them, you know, I just had to learn them in a few days and figure out, you know, something that I liked.
04:44But I don't know.
04:45Usually I'll do a cover.
04:46You know, it depends on what the crowd's like to.
04:48If we want to get everybody to sit along and feel good about something and get everybody riled up, then, you know, we'll usually do something that everybody knows.
04:55Very cool.
04:56Talking to Chase Beckham right now, going to be at our QYK Guitar Poll, November 17th, man.
05:02We cannot wait to see you.
05:03We appreciate you, and I appreciate you, taking the offer that we put out there and actually accepting it.
05:08So thank you for doing that, man, and we can't wait to see you here in Tampa.
05:12I can't wait, man.
05:13I appreciate y'all, and really looking forward to seeing you guys.
05:16I'll see you then.
05:17All right.
05:17Chase Beckham, everybody.
05:18We'll see you on stage.
05:19Yeah.
05:20See you, buddy.
05:21Thanks so much.
05:22Yeah, no worries.
