00:00Now, we get to be joined by a current member of the Sixers, but not just a player.
00:05This man holds a key to the freaking city.
00:08That, of course, is Marcus Morris.
00:10Marcus, thanks for joining us, man.
00:11Love, love, love.
00:12Thanks for having me, guys.
00:12How much of an honor is that?
00:14It was a great honor, man.
00:16I wanted my brother to be there because he's just as big as I am.
00:22It was a great honor, man, but I thought it was going to be like 12 people there.
00:25It was like 212 people, so it kind of threw me off.
00:29I was like, damn, you know what I'm saying?
00:30I got a little emotional, but, you know, man, I was very thankful for that.
00:35You know, the big story surrounding you, obviously, local guy, gets to come back, gets to play.
00:40You've made it known how happy you are to be back here.
00:43Take it to the basketball court.
00:45What's it?
00:46That's all right.
00:46That's my language, but when I talk about a killer, that's how I got to speak, you know what I'm saying?
00:50So, these guys are pretty good, and then, you know, you got the franchise and Max, he's really good,
00:55and just a lot of good pieces around those guys, man.
00:58A lot of veteran pieces, I think.
01:00The age limit is, like, very perfect for the team.
01:03So, with the coming home, some people put extra pressure on themselves playing basketball at home.
01:09I've seen some players that straight up said they didn't want to go home because of, quote-unquote,
01:14distractions, family, whatever it might be.
01:17It doesn't seem like that's affected you at all.
01:18Now, why were you versus somebody else so comfortable coming back and playing here?
01:23To be honest, because I am Philly, man.
01:25I come back every summer.
01:26I play in front of my family, my friends.
01:28We have, like, big tournaments in the summer.
01:31So, I mean, like, I feel like it's better for me because I know I get a lot of love.
01:37You know what I'm saying?
01:37I like what gives me more, like, passion.
01:39And sometimes you get caught up in this league where it just feels like it's a business.
01:43You know what I'm saying?
01:43Because you're just playing for all these different teams.
01:45But when you get to play for, like, your hometown, like, for me, it's just something and everything.
01:50Did you ever realize how many people here wanted you here?
01:53I mean, it's been, like, I swear.
01:55I've been at the station for 10 years.
01:58It's been 10 years of the Sixers need to get Marcus Moore.
02:00Honestly, man, believe it or not, I've been trying to get here for a while.
02:03I've been trying to get here for a while, man.
02:05And, you know, it's always a business aspect and, you know, guys, you know, demand a certain amount of money.
02:10But, you know, I've been trying to get here for a while, man, like, me and my brother.
02:14So, it's been a battle getting here.
02:16But I'm here now, man, hopefully I can stay long term.
02:19I was telling Marcus a story about when he was in high school and he was committing to go to college
02:24and there was a local coach that thought he might go there.
02:26And I had to be the one to break the news to him that he wasn't.
02:29And he started crying over the phone that he wasn't going to get Marcus Morris and his brother.
02:33So, just when now that you are back here, you've been in the league a while.
02:39Probably the best time to be here for you.
02:41Like, there is no pressure, as Ty said, and where your game is right now.
02:45Would you say this is the best time for you?
02:47I think so, man.
02:47I think, you know, having, like, a real solid team and, you know, having, like, centerpieces that you can just build around.
02:54And I feel like I'm one of those guys, like, if you follow my career, I've always been around, like, superstars, pretty good guys.
02:59I've always been, like, fourth, third wheel, you know what I'm saying, and doing my part.
03:03And that's, you know, that's just what my MO is, you know, bringing some toughness.
03:07But a lot of people don't know, you know, I bring toughness, but I actually can play, you know what I'm saying?
03:12So, that's the biggest thing.
03:13I'm not out there just talking.
03:15I'm backing it up.
03:16Actually, you didn't talk the other night.
03:20You had somebody, who was it?
03:22Dylan.
03:22Dylan Brooks.
03:23Dylan Brooks talking to you.
03:24And you were just kind of looking around, like, yeah, you can chirp, man.
03:26I don't need that.
03:27I'm about action, man.
03:28I don't do a lot of talking.
03:29That's it.
03:30So, actually, you had about a week, about two weeks, you didn't miss a single shot.
03:35Yeah.
03:35Talking about I could still play.
03:36Yeah.
03:37So, you come to Philadelphia, you don't know these teammates yet.
03:41Is there anybody in particular?
03:42I'm not telling you, somebody you don't like.
03:45Was there anybody who you hit it off with personally right away on the team?
03:49You know, honestly, because of the years I've spent playing in the league, when I was with
03:54Boston for four years, we was battling with the Sixers all the time.
03:57So, it was like, you know, it kind of just became a competitive thing.
04:00And I played on the team with Pat, three different teams.
04:04Tobias, two different teams.
04:06Kelly, Woodbury.
04:07Obviously, we brought, like, four guys with us when we came in the trade.
04:11So, it was easy, man.
04:12Like, you know, one thing I can say is you guys embrace me.
04:15This is my rookie right here.
04:16You know what I'm saying?
04:19Dresses up nice.
04:20You know what I'm saying?
04:21So, it was genuine, man.
04:24It was easy.
04:24Like, everybody, you know, even them coming to me getting the key to the city, the whole
04:29team showed up.
04:30Yeah.
04:30And I meant to lie to them, man.
04:31But that just tells you I've only been there for two months.
04:33And you can just tell the relationship I have with the team.
04:36What's it like playing for Coach Nurse?
04:38Pretty cool.
04:39It's pretty cool.
04:41Call them the mad scientist.
04:43Mad scientist.
04:44How was it like compared to other coaches you've played for across the league?
04:49It's different.
04:50It's pretty, you know, it's pretty cool.
04:51It's different.
04:51Like, I played for some really, really good coaches.
04:54You know, Brad Stevens.
04:55I played for Van Gundy.
04:56I played for Tyrone Luce.
04:58So, these guys that I'm naming, like, are really good coaches.
05:02They have really good careers.
05:02And he's up there with them.
05:03You mentioned that, you know, all the coaches, all the players, you've been in the league
05:07for a while.
05:08Yeah.
05:08The age isn't going to go away.
05:10Do you start to reflect a little bit more now?
05:13Or is it just all balls to the wall all the time?
05:15I think coming home made me reflect a little bit.
05:18Did it?
05:19It was like, you know, I played for a lot of teams.
05:22But, like, it's just something about playing home.
05:24It's just giving you a different feel.
05:26So, it's like an accomplishment home.
05:28You know what I'm saying?
05:28Like, I stuck around long enough.
05:30And I extended my career long enough to be able to actually play for my hometown.
05:34So, like, for sure, I take a step back.
05:36And me and bro, we always have a conversation about it.
05:39So, obviously, the goal is a championship.
05:42You're out there every day.
05:43You see what your team has.
05:45You've seen at this last couple months.
05:47Basically, everybody else.
05:48You played a really good team just last night.
05:51But how far away, honestly, do you think you guys are from being able to win the whole thing?
05:57I think we're right there.
05:58I think we're right there.
05:59You know, it's still early.
06:00So, you know, we still can develop.
06:02We still can, you know, build out our lineups.
06:04One thing we do have is a lot of guys.
06:06You know what I'm saying?
06:06A lot of guys.
06:07Like, if guys go down or we have, you know, God forbid, any injuries,
06:10we have a lot of guys that, you know, to plug and play.
06:13And guys that's veterans that've been in the league.
06:15So, I mean, that's always a plus.
06:17But, I mean, if you ask me, we got a legitimate shot, man.
06:20And the versatility we had, the depth we had, we definitely got a little good in the shot.
06:24You talked about Joe.
06:25Talk a little bit about Tyrese.
06:27Because he's a guy that we think, we were just talking about this during one of the breaks,
06:30about whether or not this will be the year he makes an all-star team.
06:33We still don't know if he's there yet nationally in terms of that kind of recognition.
06:36But you've had the chance to play against him, and now you're playing with him.
06:39Yeah.
06:39I mean, is he about to pop off in this league?
06:42That's the franchise, man.
06:43He's, I think, getting popped off.
06:45I don't see, I don't see no decline in this game.
06:48He breaks extremely hard.
06:50He's always in the gym.
06:52He loves the game.
06:53He's a nice kid, man.
06:53So, you know, the energy that he puts towards the game, man, it's only going to pay off for him.
06:58Because at the end of the day, when you have that confidence, you have to see, like,
07:02really back in, and you show up like that every game, it's like, I don't see how he can feel.
07:06So, Marcus, when you go to different teams, do you have to change your game at all for teams,
07:11or is it, here I am, they make you better?
07:13Nah, nah, nah.
07:14That's what, you know, we don't last in the league that long doing that.
07:17You know what I mean?
07:18Being, for being 13 years, I've always had to adjust and, you know, play with good players
07:22and whatever they like, you know what I mean?
07:23I make sure I fit, you know, that's what makes me who I am.
07:26Bring my toughness, bring my game to me.
07:28And what do they have you do here?
07:30A little bit of everything.
07:31Yeah.
07:31I play a little bit of center.
07:33Obviously, I'm a leader.
07:34That's just in my DNA.
07:36You know, I'm a broad street bully, so I got to protect guys.
07:40And, you know, there's a little bit of everything, man.
07:42I'm kind of getting, I'm kind of getting into getting a little bit more consistency with it.
07:46And, you know, the sky's the limit.
07:48Early on, you mentioned how the role was new for you in the beginning.
07:52But you didn't complain.
07:53You were just saying it was new for you.
07:54Then, literally the week after that, that's when you had that two-week span where I swear
07:58I don't think you missed the shot.
07:59Yeah.
07:59So, are you comfortable right now?
08:02Obviously, things may change.
08:03They may make a trade.
08:04Who knows?
08:04Are you fully comfortable now two months in?
08:07Or do you think you can still get a little bit more comfortable here in front of that?
08:10Yeah.
08:10I think I get a lot more comfortable.
08:13Honestly, you know, like we have a lot of guys.
08:16So, you know, I feel like right now, like my minutes aren't really as consistent as I want.
08:20I've been a starter for the last 10 years.
08:23So, you know, coming into a situation where it's inconsistent, it kind of pulls me in different directions.
08:29Because, you know, I'm a competitor.
08:30It's my hometown.
08:31I want to play well.
08:32I want to actually play.
08:33I want to, you know, I want to give it my all.
08:34So, right now, I'm just like really searching for consistency with the team and consistency with the minutes.
08:39And I think once that happens, like I feel like I'm going to be my best.
08:43Last thing before we let you go, talk a little bit about the fans.
08:46I mean, you knew Philly.
08:47You're from Philly.
08:48You've left Philly.
08:49You've played for multiple different cities now across the NBA.
08:52What's it like playing for Philadelphia fans, man?
08:54Man, it's different, man.
08:55Like when I go out there sometimes, it's still surreal to me.
08:59Like, you know what I'm saying?
09:00I've seen so many people out.
09:01I've watched me in high school, you know, watched me growing up.
09:04So, it's very surreal, man.
09:06Like we had a game last week and I started, man.
09:08And I was like, man, I'm at the top of my career if I could be home.
09:12And now it's my name.
09:14And like, I just hear the fans genuinely like have love for me, man.
09:17That's like my career.
09:19Like I worked like that was like the biggest, biggest thing I could really say that like took me back to my career.
09:24That's awesome.
09:24Marcus, listen, man, thank you so much.
09:26You're having a hell of a season.
09:27The team's having a hell of a season.
09:29We're excited to see what this team goes moving forward.
09:31So, thanks, man.
09:32We appreciate it.
09:32I've listened to this, man, for so long, man.
09:35Like, you don't even know I'd be in L.A.
09:37and I'd still be watching the games.
09:39You know, I'm always going to be a fan.
09:40And then, like, just to be here, man, especially.
09:42Thanks for having me on.
09:43You're where you're supposed to be.
09:45We hope you're here, like you said, long term.
09:47We hope you know how to do.
09:48Absolutely.
09:49We appreciate it.
09:49There he is, Marcus Morris.
09:50Go have some fun, man.
09:51We appreciate it.
