Blue Steel is a 1934 American pre-Code Western film starring John Wayne. Directed by Robert N. Bradbury, the film follows John Carruthers, a U.S. Marshal who arrives in town to investigate a series of robberies committed by the mysterious Polka Dot Bandit. However, Sheriff Jake mistakenly suspects Carruthers of being the thief. As they reluctantly team up, they uncover a sinister plot by the town’s wealthiest citizen, Malgrove, who is orchestrating the crimes to force settlers off their land. With tense action, classic Western themes, and Wayne’s early screen presence, this film remains a notable entry in his Lone Star Productions era.

01:29Hey, Hank.
01:46Oh, oh, hello, Sheriff.
01:49The storm's made me a little dick nervous.
01:51I've been jumping all night.
01:53The time's stage, though.
01:55Oh, long about midnight, but the wrecking of the storm will hold it up some.
01:58And the middle four-place will watch out.
02:01They'd have to wait here to storm it over.
02:03Got a room?
02:05Been riding all night.
02:06I want to get a little sleep before the stage gets in.
02:09Expecting trouble?
02:10I'm always expecting trouble.
02:13This is a place around here where I can watch goings on.
02:17I got it.
02:19My room.
02:21You see that, Bucko?
02:22Yeah.
02:23Well, all you got to do is pull them around just to one side, and you can see you're putting
02:26every corner of this room.
02:28Cracky say, that's just made the order.
02:31Call me when the stage is in.
02:33Will you, Hank?
02:33I'll ring the night bell.
02:35There's two beds up there.
02:36Take which one you want.
02:37Good night, Hank.

03:36Come on.
04:06I want a room with a stove in it.
04:09I'm chilling now, and I've got to steep me a cup of hot tea.
04:14Well, there's a coal ore stove in every room.
04:17Here's your tea.
04:36Just sign Mr. and Mrs. right there.
04:49I suppose you folks would like the bridal chamber?
04:52What?
05:02Well, how much?
05:05Well, we always get two dollars for the bridal chamber.
05:08You see, it's for the best in the house.
05:15And please be as quiet as you can.
05:18The man next to you gets up at five.
05:35Hello, Hank.
05:39I'm putting the bottom of the lake.
05:43Talk that up, will you, Hank?
05:46Four thousand in there.
05:48Hello, the lost load mine.
05:50Well, it'll be safe here.
05:51It has to take away the safe to get it.
05:53Hey, in the morning, Hank.
06:22Well, speak up, young man.
06:43What is it?
06:45I can't find it.
06:47You can't?
06:48No.
06:51Well, whatever have you lost?
06:54I ain't lost nothing.
06:56Well, what in the world is it that you...
07:00That you can't find?
07:02Well, it...
07:03It's...
07:04Oh, Hank.
07:06Oh, it's...
07:07Oh, it's...
07:08Oh, it's...
07:08Oh, it's...
07:09Oh, it's...
07:10Oh, it's...
07:11Oh, it's...
07:12Oh, it's...
07:13Oh, it's...
07:14Oh, it's...
07:15Oh, it's...
07:16Ah, I tell you, Sheriff, it's great to be young.
07:27Well, Hank, I reckon I had my trip for nothing.
07:31You see, I was kicked off a polky dirt bandage here about.
07:35And you don't expect him out in a storm like this for you.
07:38You can expect him anywhere there's money.
07:40Let me go, maybe.
08:10Let me go.
08:40Let me go.
08:50Uh huh?
08:51Didn't you hear that?
08:52No, no, what is it?
08:53I don't know.
09:10Why, Jiminy, it's for Poké Doc.
09:36Reckon your tip was right, Sheriff.
09:38But how'd they get the combination?
09:39I don't know.
09:43What's that?
09:46Well, they're the safe combination numbers.
09:49You watched it through the window when you opened it.
10:07No use trying to trail him tonight.
10:09No, by morning he'd be miles away.
10:12Just the same, I'm going to run him down if it takes me ten years.
10:17Okay, because I don't know.
10:26So...
11:27Don't move.
11:35Put up your gun.
11:41Everything's all right, old-timer.
11:43You're just in time for beans.
11:45Sit down.
11:49Think you're pretty slick, don't you?
11:51No, just careful.
11:53Well, you might have been the polka dot bandit.
11:55Or some other notorious outlaw.
11:58Eh?
11:59How do you know I ain't?
12:01Just by your luck.
12:02Come on, let's see.
12:10Those beans sure smell good.
12:13Well, help yourself.
12:13Come on, let's see.
12:14Come on.
12:25Pretty slick on the drawer, too, ain't you, son?
12:28No, old-timer.
12:29Just force a habit.
12:30Well, don't get excited.
12:33See, I carry this for snakes.
12:35Oh, I ain't insinuating that you're a snake, but here's to me right now is a good time to open it.
12:41You have a drink?
12:43Well, in this particular case, yes.
12:45Do you mind if I roll up here for the night?
12:49No, old-timer.
12:50I'd be right glad to know you better.
12:52Yeah?
12:54Well, I ain't so sure.
12:57Anyway, here's the mud in your eyes.
12:59And how.
13:00See any sign of Mason and the gang?
13:28Saw a cloud of dust down by Cotton Creek.
13:30Maybe the outlaws.
13:32Oh, are you think so?
13:33How could they know when Mason was coming through?
13:36Well, how did they know before?
13:38I tell you, there's a skunk in this town, and we ought to run him down.
13:43We ought to be hearing from Sacramento.
13:45That letter was sent three weeks ago.
13:47All right.
13:48The government don't care nothing about us.
13:51We've got to help ourselves.
13:52You can't fight outlaws without ammunition, and we can get it.
14:00They're just entered in the past.
14:18You boys know what to do.
14:20Remember, no harm must come to the girls.
14:22No sign of outlaws yet, Betty.
14:42But I still insist you shouldn't have come.
14:45Now, don't scroll, Dad.
14:47It's been a wonderful trip.
16:13Sergeant, you decided to drift along with me.
16:16It's kind of lonesome trailing alone.
16:18Yeah.
16:19If I ain't mistaken, you're going to have plenty of company.
16:52Outlaw, please help us.
17:13Dad!
17:20Dad!
17:33Dad!
17:33Dad!
17:34Dad!
17:35Dad!
17:36Dad!
17:37Dad!
17:38Dad!
17:40Dad!
17:41Dad!
17:43Ted!
17:44Dad!
17:46Dad!
18:47Well, we got both of them.
19:01We'd better make sure.
19:32No sign of them.
19:48I reckon they were on the bottom.
19:50Well, they couldn't have got you, old-timer.
20:01Yeah.
20:02But the feel of my head, they did get me.
20:05What happened?
20:07Well, they shot you off your horse and you fell over the cliff.
20:11Into the water, eh?
20:12You pulled me out.
20:15Son, I reckon I owe you my life.
20:18I ain't forgetting that.
20:19Don't worry about that, Dad.
20:21We got to get out of here.
20:23Think you can make it?
20:24Well, I'll make it or bust a cinch.
20:42Everything worked out just as you planned.
20:44Only we bumped into a couple of strangers.
20:46We had to run and fight.
20:47They got Jake, but they're on the bottom of the river.
20:50What about the girl?
20:51Are you sure she didn't recognize you?
20:53Nah, we didn't get close enough for that.
20:56She's probably in town by now.
20:58Come on.
20:59Hello, boys.
21:16Any words from the pack train?
21:18Here comes Betty now.
21:19Where's your father?
21:38Where's Tom?
21:39Dad and Tom are dead.
21:41All right.
21:42They killed them.
21:43They killed them.
21:44Who killed them?
21:45There, there.
21:46Tell us all about it, Miss Betty.
21:47Well, we were just coming through the pass, and...
22:03Then these men rode after the outlaws.
22:06I ran to Dad and found him...
22:09There, there, Miss Betty.
22:11I am...
22:12Miss Betty, you must let me take care of you.
22:26I want you to consider my ranch your home until we can make more definite plans for your future.
22:31I want you to know that I'll do everything possible to help you.
22:35And you'll send someone for him?
22:36I'm going myself.
22:38Right away.
22:40Oh, Mrs. Williams.
22:42I want you to take care of Betty until I return.
23:15In town, I reckon.
23:21Dead?
23:23Your daughter just told her.
23:25We were just going to bring him into town.
23:28Yeah?
23:29Well, you can give us a hand, then.
23:45Boy, some of you take care of me.
23:53Come on, watch him.
23:54What happened?
23:55What happened?
24:14Don't move.
24:15Either one of you.
24:16Now talk and talk fast.
24:18Where's the rest of your gang in the provision?
24:20Why was it necessary to kill?
24:22You could have taken the packs without committing murder.
24:24Men, we found these two going through Mason's pockets.
24:28Now what's to be done?
24:29Screw you!
24:30Now that gun!
24:32I keep him covered.
24:34Men, we didn't kill Mason.
24:36If you'll call his daughter, she'll prove it.
24:38His daughter's in no condition to be dragged out here and questioned.
24:41We're not trying to question anyone, but under the circumstances, I think Miss Mason will be glad to explain.
24:45Here she comes now.
24:48Miss Mason, these men have accused us of killing your father.
24:52Oh, no, Mr. Melgrove.
24:53These are the men that drove the outlaws away and saved my life.
24:57Well, in that case, we certainly owe you gentlemen an apology.
25:00You, of course, don't realize, but this town is in a most desperate state.
25:05We are without food and ammunition, terrorized by a band of murdering outlaws.
25:10Two attempts have been made now to bring in supplies, only to have our men killed and the food taken.
25:16If we don't get provisions here before snow sets in, we're trapped.
25:20We're trapped now.
25:21We can only last a few days longer.
25:24Let's all get out.
25:25A teller's the only solution.
25:27I think you're right.
25:28How can we get out?
25:30Well, our money is all gone for food that we never got.
25:33Men, I have a little money, not much, but I'll do this.
25:37In order that we can get out, I'll give you $100 each for your homestead.
25:40I'm taking a long chance of ever getting my money back, but I'll risk it.
25:44Oh, it's my square, Mr. Melrose.
25:46Come on, let's take that.
25:47Come on, let's take that.
25:51Don't you think before you sell your homes for a few dollars that you should take at least one more chance at getting the provisions through?
25:57Our men have families.
25:59There's been enough killing.
26:01Well, that's right.
26:02Why not let us take it quicker?
26:05If you can get us provisions, I'll pay you well.
26:08Forget that.
26:09You give us an order and we'll have the provisions back here inside of four days.
26:13Good.
26:13Then come to my ranch this afternoon and I'll give you an order for a $1,000 supply.
26:17That's right.
26:18Get out.
26:19Get out.
26:21All right.
26:32See that pal of Melrose?
26:35You're going to be mighty interested in him right soon.
26:37Who is it?
26:38I'm keeping that for a surprise.
26:41Yeah?
26:42Well, I'm keeping a surprise for you, too.
26:49Come on.
26:50Come on.
26:51Show Miss Mason the spare room.
27:15Remember, this is to be your home, Betty.
27:28It's going to be a great pleasure to have you with me.
27:32I thought you said those two men were at the bottom of the river.
27:54I'd swear those were the two we shot down.
27:57If it hadn't been for those two meddlers, the town would be moving out right now.
28:00Well, anyway, you got the girl.
28:03And remember this.
28:04She's private property.
28:05Hands off.
28:06Yeah, you better tell the boys not to be talking around here.
28:09She might find out who you really are.
28:12Kent made another inspection of Homestead Valley.
28:14Swearers it'll be the richest gold strike ever discovered.
28:17Runs right through the middle of all the ranches.
28:19We'll soon be rid of those hombres.
28:21The town will move out and we'll own the gold field.
28:24Take her to the hideout.
28:37We'll keep her there till the town is deserted.
28:40You don't dare.
28:41I'm going over to Melgrove's and get that order.
29:08And I'm going over to Melgrove's and get that order.
29:10I'll be right back here.
29:11I'll be right back.
29:12Let's get here.
30:44Only one came over.
30:46What are you doing in the bunkhouse?
30:48I don't know.
30:50Now is your chance.
30:51Remember, no shooting.
30:54You boys tell me where Melgrove is?
31:21Why, yeah.
31:23I think you'll find him right for...
31:26Come on.
31:35Get in.
31:35I think you'll find...
33:27What's this all about?
33:46I asked these men here.
33:49My boys have orders to hold all strangers.
33:52They didn't understand.
33:53I'm very sorry.
33:54Oh, that's all right, Norgro.
33:56We were just playing.
33:59Here's your order.
34:00And I wish you luck.
34:01When are you leaving?
34:02Right now.
34:03We expect to be back before daylight.
34:06You see, the outlaws won't be expecting us that soon.
34:09I hope you'll get through.
34:11Well, it won't be our fault if we don't, eh, Jake?
34:14You said it, son.
34:18What be expecting them, eh?
34:22They'll find out.
34:23It's the things we least expect that usually happen.
34:26I thought we were going to Sandy.
34:41We're not going to be that foolish old-timers.
34:43They'd be waiting for us at the pass.
34:45Do you think Mel Grove and Danny are with the outlaws?
34:48There's no doubt about it.
34:49Well, what should be done?
34:51Well, it all depends on what happens between now and tomorrow morning.
34:56What happened to Miss Mason?
37:10She's coming too early.
37:13Where's the girl?
37:14In the strong room.
37:15She won't eat.
37:17She'll get over that.
37:18I'll have a talk with her tomorrow.
37:24Miss Mason.
37:28Betty.
37:29Oh, I'm so glad you found me.
37:31Tell me briefly what's happened.
37:33They caught me over here in their plans and brought me here.
37:36Nugwell is the leader.
37:37He's trying to force the people out so he can get their land.
37:39But why?
37:40Well, you see, under their topsoil is a rich gold deposit.
37:43And it runs right through all the ranches.
37:45Kent is in with them.
37:47Well, they'll be leaving early.
37:49I'll be back shortly after dawn to get you.
37:51Now, try and get some sleep.
37:54Good night.
37:54Good night.
37:55How you got up, Old Diamond?
38:05Huh?
38:05What's the matter?
38:06Clean out them ears.
38:07I got a world of news for you.
38:09Where you been?
38:09I followed Millgrove to the hideout.
38:11Hey, that sounds interesting.
38:12Go on.
38:13Well, they're holding Miss Mason present.
38:15And I got to talk to her and she gave me the lowdown on the whole deal.
38:19Now, listen to this.
38:43Good night.
39:13We'll be back by noon.
39:14I want you to guard this place, boys.
39:16Keep your eye on the girl.
39:17If anybody comes, shoot.
39:20Okay, boss.
39:43You try and find the wagon.
39:51I'll go get the girl.
39:52I'll go get the girl.
40:13I'll go get the girl.
40:23I've located the wagon and the horses.
40:47Good.
40:48Give me a left here.
40:49We're taking this hombre with us.
40:50I'll take him.
40:51All right.
40:53Miss Nathan.
41:08Yes.
41:08Hurry and get ready.
41:09They've gone.
41:09Let's go.
41:39You've been tricked, Melgrove.
42:02They're headed for the hideout.
42:09Keep back.
42:17I'm going to break this in.
42:29Are you ready?
42:30Oh, but they're in my booth.
42:32I'll meet you at the tunnel.
42:33All right.
42:39Hey, son, there's enough grub in there to last a year.
42:49Come on.
43:09Now, just where do you think you're going?
43:15Ah!
43:17Ah!
43:19Ah!
43:19Ah!
43:21Ah!
43:22Ah!

44:09Look, they're coming back.
44:24Look, they're coming back.
44:30Good work, son, but we gotta hurry, they're coming back.
44:57Take that lone horse behind those trees and race for town.
45:10Hey, son, here's a box of dynamite.
45:13Might come in handy.
45:23Let's go.
45:30Let's go.
45:36Let's go.
45:43What happened?
45:50What's the matter?
45:52They took the girl and dancing.
46:07What happened?
46:08What's the matter?
46:09They took the girl and dancing.
46:14Let's go.
46:15Let's go.
46:16Let's go.
46:17Let's go.
46:18Let's go.

47:18Let's go.
47:48Let's go.
48:18Let's go.
48:48Let's go.
49:18They've blocked us out.
49:35We've got to swim the narrow.
49:37A thousand dollars to the man who gets that girl.
49:39Let's go.
50:09Let's go.
50:39Let's go.
51:09Here they come, old-timer.
