00:02Golf legend Rory McIlroy has been married to Erika Stoll, whom he met back in 2012 during
00:07the Ryder Cup, where she was working as a PGA transport official.
00:10Though the couple appears happy today, their relationship faced a serious test not long
00:14ago.
00:15McIlroy made headlines when he filed for divorce on May 13, 2024, a move that nearly ended
00:20their marriage.
00:21The golf star later opened up about the near breakup in season three of the Netflix docuseries
00:25Full Swing, offering fans a rare glimpse into his personal life.
00:28McIlroy admitted,
00:29"...I struggled with trying to be the best golfer, the best husband, the best dad."
00:33He explained that he chose to keep most details private to protect his loved ones, offering
00:37only glimpses into the challenges behind the scenes.
00:40According to Us Weekly, one contributing factor to the strain in their marriage was that Stoll
00:44was lonely in their marriage, with a source adding,
00:47"...Rory was a hard person to be married to.
00:49Whatever the issues were, the couple found a way forward."
00:52On June 11, 2024, McIlroy's attorney filed a notice of dismissal of the divorce in Palm
00:57Beach County Court.
00:58Since then, the pair has remained together, seemingly on more solid ground.
01:02Erica Stoll has been a steady and supportive presence in Rory McIlroy's life since the beginning
01:06of their relationship.
01:08Originally from Iron Decoit, New York, she was an avid tennis player during her high school
01:12years.
01:13She went on to earn a degree in marketing from the Rochester Institute of Technology in
01:162008.
01:17Following graduation, Stoll landed her dream job as an office manager with the PGA of America,
01:22a role that eventually led her to cross paths with McIlroy and set the stage for their love
01:27story.
01:27Stoll will be right by McIlroy's side this week, cheering him on as the Masters gets underway.
