it was catastrophic what happened to this whole area driving around it's insane just every street
00:05
you go down the amount of trees that you can see that have been cut in half or just uh are scarce
00:10
in some areas uh and and how it affects the golf course well i i think sight lines and targets are
00:17
going to be yeah maybe a little bit different than normal there might be some things that stick out
00:21
for players like the 10th hole you can really like see a tv tower that really wasn't there before yes
00:28
then now it's going to be a sight line for a guy um so just hearing that uh it definitely makes you
00:35
think from a player side there's going to be just it'll be a little different and maybe guys might
00:41
catch a break or two with a little less trees and i think one of the some of the trees that are the
00:47
most like iconic are when you're sitting on top of the hill at 15 and you know you always just see
00:53
those trees behind the green that are right at 16 those trees are gone so it's just going to look
00:58
a little different on tv this year i think do you think it favors a certain type of player because
01:02
i was talking to paul uggetti of espn about this where maybe there's a world in which the course is
01:08
softer than it plays normal does that favor a guy that's an incredible iron player a good ball striker
01:13
like a call morocaba like a wills out towards who can hit it really close and and and not have to
01:19
worry as much about you know a ton of winter firmness like we've seen in past years and then
01:23
it kind of negates you know if you're if you're an above average putter for the week you can win the
01:26
tournament yeah and i i think one of the like to answer your question augusta national is all about
01:33
experience um can first timers win here it's been done before does it mean that uh first timer can't
01:42
compete that's it was proven untrue last year with ludvico berg so this course is all about how you
01:50
score on the par fives like if you go out and play the par fives even par uh very few guys have won the
01:56
golf tournament doing that i think danny willett was the only guy to play the the uh the par fives even or
02:02
worse and still win the golf tournament uh which we don't talk about 2016 i don't even know why i brought
02:07
it up so one of my favorite guys to to really see on on twitter as far as just different ways to look
02:14
at how this you know these players are going to compete on this place ron claus is a really good
02:18
job on twitter with really good information pj splits 101 and i think his takeaways are really
02:24
really solid just saying that the course experience matters of course a long shot winner is improbable
02:29
so those two things we've already just talked about recent winning experience is significant so we
02:34
could talk about that here in a moment with some of these top players um an elite putter is not
02:38
required i think that's a really good tidbit because yeah you don't have to be a great putter
02:43
to win this tournament what you need to be good at is being a very good lag putter yeah you know not
02:48
three putting but also being very good inside of 10 feet and you're going to have so many putts
02:54
inside of six to eight feet for birdie on par fives and then also those same putts on par fours
02:59
and par threes for par that you're going to have to make um obviously you're playing on a lot of
03:05
different elevation as far as a lot of different lies something that's probably not talked about
03:10
enough uh when it comes to augusta national is being very creative and that's why guys like jordan speed
03:17
uh we talked to ben crenshaw the other day super creative players um and then the last part it's a
03:22
bomber's paradise and i i tend to agree there with uh you know you can find a a ben crenshaw or not a
03:28
ben crenshaw but a uh bryson de chambeau sorry had the bees going but i think that's a good starting
03:33
list of you know what it takes to compete at augusta national yeah dylan to chair has this question
03:38
of nikolai hoy guard today and i don't know if he was quoting i think he was putting last year's
03:43
stats or i don't know it's probably last year not all the time but just saying that the par four
03:47
scoring average was like 4.2 and the par five scoring average is 4.6 and post the nikolai was just
03:52
saying yeah like it's very obvious where you have to do your work on this golf course yeah i thought
03:56
that was even interesting watching that scotty every hole video where you're looking at his
04:00
lifetime score to par and you keep going through par four and it's like even even over par then
04:04
you get to the part one of the par fives and it's 20 under it's like well it's very clear what his
04:09
formula was and it's worked twice it's risk uh that you have to take on on certain holes you know that
04:14
the first hole like there's only a one pin there that you can ever really feel like you can make a
04:19
birdie to the rest of the time you're playing for par where two you have to make a birdie three you have to
04:24
play it aggressively and i think so many players used to lay up on the third hole now you see that
04:31
the data says it doesn't matter push it up if you can clear the bunkers off the tee hit driver push it
04:36
up and your best chance of hitting the green is going to be from closer to the hole and uh and there's
04:41
other instances of this golf course uh but you know at some point you're gonna have to stand up
04:47
and hit a shot on a sunday but for the most part you just need to babysit yourself not get yourself into
04:53
trouble uh make sure you avoid double bogeys take care of the par fives and you know understand
04:58
where you have where you have to play aggressive on this course
