00:00Johnny Vegas, who when we talked, we talked 24 hours ago, and it didn't look like he was

00:07going to even be the first round leader when we got finished talking.

00:11He ends up finishing with a flurry and being the first round leader at seven under, comes

00:15out today, plays great golf for most of the day.

00:19He got a couple of lucky breaks on 14 and 17 when he hit that rake and then doubled

00:24on 18 going in.

00:25He's at eight under.

00:26I'd say he's either going to probably be tied for the lead or have the lead, depending

00:31on what happens here over the next couple of hours.

00:34But I got to tell you, Keith, Johnny Vegas has been very good to us.

00:38He's put some money in our pocket in the past.

00:40True.

00:41But I could easily see him shoot 75, 76 tomorrow, Keith.

00:47Or more.

00:48Or over the weekend, just shooting even par, even par and not being a factor, right?

00:52This golf course has continued to get harder, but these guys are the best players in the

00:56world.

00:56And everybody was freaking out yesterday because they didn't know anybody on the leaderboard

01:00when we spoke.

01:01But the fact of the matter is, by the time this thing is 54 holes over at, you know,

01:05after moving day on a Saturday, you are going to see the cream of the crop rise to the top

01:11of this leaderboard.

01:12There's no doubt about it.

01:13And I mean, Scotty Scheffler, he looms larger than anybody sitting there in perfect position.

01:18He's coming into some of the birdies holes.

01:19He's got to survive number 12 right now.

01:21Number 13, tricky pin on 12 today and tricky pin on 18.

01:25But 12 has gotten a lot of guys, but he's going to hit the birdie zone of 14, 15, and

01:29then hold on for dear life at the green mile.

01:32I think Scheffler, he'll probably be almost even money by the end of the night if you want

01:36to bet him outright.

01:38Yeah, I've been tracking it almost every like half hour, Keith, just trying to see when the

01:46bottom is going to fall out with the Scheffler number.

01:48I thought he would get to, I thought he'd get to at least five under by the end of the

01:53day, right?

01:54And I think it probably looks like six might even be more realistic.

01:57And if he gets to six, that's probably where the number you just said will happen.

02:02He's still plus 240 right now as we're talking.

02:07Now, Rory's made a little bit of a run to get himself back under par, but I just watched

02:12him take his club and smash it into the ground on whatever hole he's on right now.

02:16I guess it's 12, so Rory might be in a little bit trouble, Keith, and might be giving a little

02:21bit of that back.

02:22So Rory had a great start.

02:24He's 400 through 10, and then he three putts the 11th, and then he just hit a bad shot on

02:2912.

02:30So now all of a sudden, he's backed the car up in reverse.

02:33And really, when you talk about that group, and you know, you're right, Scott, he can go

02:36birdie-birdie on 14, 15.

02:38But you know what?

02:40He's only hit like three fairways today, Mike.

02:42So at some point, I think there's another bogey in the works for him.

02:46I think maybe he finishes at five, which still puts him in a good position.

02:49But the fact of the matter is, is that Xander Shoffley, who's the third guy in that group,

02:54has 63 cuts in a row, consecutive cuts in a row.

02:58He's the tour leader, right?

02:59He's got 10 more than Scottie.

03:00That's on the line today.

03:02And he's probably got to get to plus one, maybe with a gift he gets to plus two.

03:07And right now, he's got the car in reverse as well.

03:09I mean, that's a storyline that's really significant because he's not only, it's not

03:13only the cuts, he's the defending champion of this event.

03:17And you know, to me, I think that's significant because all year with the injury and everything,

03:21there's always been something kind of missing for Xander.

03:24If he misses the weekend here for his camp, two majors in in 2025, it's far different than

03:30it was a year ago.

03:32Now, I'm looking at it right now, Keith.

03:34If they have it at plus one right now, top 61 in ties at plus one for the cut.

03:41So top 74 and owner, 74 is at plus two.

03:46Do you think we stay at plus one or are we going to get there to these guys in the two

03:50getting on board?

03:51I mean, this is really where the theater is going to come in this afternoon, right?

03:54Okay.

03:54So the PGA is a little different than weekly on the PGA tour.

03:58It's the top 70 and ties.

04:00It's not top 65.

04:01I'll say that again, it's the top 70 in ties that make the weekend in this major championship.

04:06And when you start to look at the green mile, and if you're not familiar with what that

04:09is, then you just haven't been watching.

04:11But if you're not familiar with it, it's hole 16, 17, and 18 down here at the Quail Hollow

04:16Club.

04:16Yesterday, those holes played 1.1 strokes over par.

04:20So just to give you an idea, Mike, they played 171 over par.

04:24Those three strokes, those three holes, right?

04:27Holes one through 15 only played 100 over par for the field, right?

04:30And today, they're playing more difficult.

04:33The 18th hole alone with that pin position in the front left is playing more difficult

04:37than all three of the par fives that are on the golf course.

04:40And that's a par four.

04:42I think that these guys are going to struggle coming in.

04:44And I think there's a very good chance that it could slip to two.

04:47That being said, somebody like JT is still out of the picture.

04:50But Xander's got to get some serious work done.

04:53Rory's got to stabilize the ship.

04:55And we would love to see that number get to plus two.
