00:00The government has confirmed the readiness in case the Philippines becomes a powerful country that can be called the big one.

00:31The quarterly simultaneous earthquake drill conducted by NDRRMC is of great help

00:37for the public to know what to do before and after the earthquake.

00:41Because of this, the public is becoming more aware of the possible effects of the earthquake.

00:47Bacolkol made a statement after the magnitude 7.7 earthquake hit Myanmar and Thailand

00:54that killed many people. But is it possible for the magnitude 7.7 earthquake to hit the country?

01:00Yes, it is higher than the magnitude 7.7 earthquake that we can experience.

01:05And in fact, we have experienced this before. On July 16, 1990, the magnitude 7.8 earthquake hit.

01:14And on August 17, 1976, we had magnitude 8.1 in Mindanao.

01:23In the entire Philippines, there are about 180 active fault segments and 6 trenches.

01:29And all of these have the capacity to move or move slowly to a strong earthquake.

01:36Although the government is now preparing for the possible hit of the so-called the big one,

01:42as of now, it is the infrastructure vulnerability, particularly in Metro Manila.

01:48Most of the houses, roofs and other things are not earthquake resistant.

01:53Retrofitting and reinforcing buildings are important and this is what our government is doing.

01:58It is also better if there is always an emergency kit or emergency bag with food,

02:04water, medicine and flashlight that lasts for three days.

02:08It is also important to talk and practice the dot cover and hold with other family members

02:13and set up a meeting point in case family members are separated during an earthquake.

02:20Based on the study of PHEBOX, MMDA and JICA in 2004,

02:25there will be more than 33,000 casualties in Metro Manila due to the impact of the big one.
