00:21This is what FIVOX Director Dr. Teresito Bacolcol said in the program Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon.

00:32for the public to know what to do before and after the earthquake.

00:37Because of this, the public is more aware of the possible effects of the earthquake.

00:42Bacolcol made a statement after the magnitude 7.7 earthquake hit Myanmar and Thailand

00:49that killed many people.

00:51But is it possible for a magnitude 7.7 earthquake to hit the country?

00:56Yes. It's higher than the magnitude 7.7 earthquake that we can experience.

01:01In fact, we have experienced this before.

01:04On July 16, 1990, the magnitude 7.8 earthquake hit.

01:10On August 17, 1976, magnitude 8.1 hit Mindanao.

01:19In the Philippines, there are up to 180 active fault segments and 6 trenches.

01:24And all of these have the capacity to move or move slowly until a strong earthquake.

01:31The government is now preparing for the possible hit of the so-called the big one,

01:37which is the infrastructure vulnerability, particularly in Metro Manila.

01:43Most of the houses, roofs, and other areas are not earthquake resistant.
