What you need to know before severe storms strike your area

There's some key information you need to know if you want to keep yourself and your family safe when severe weather strikes.

00:00Well, we had issued a severe weather

00:02risk not just for today, tomorrow,

00:04Wednesday and Thursday.

00:05Now some of these are a some risk,

00:07but there is a level of severe weather

00:10expected throughout most of the week,

00:12so it's important to be prepared.

00:13One of the things that you should do

00:16is know where you will be on the day

00:18that we have this area of severe

00:20weather expected now we have risk

00:22maps that we've been showing on it.

00:24The network,

00:25but if you want to really zero in on OK,

00:28where am I on this map?

00:29On the mobile app we have a web

00:31stories of the latest forecast

00:33information and then also.

00:34Pictures of those maps you can zoom in.

00:36You can really zero in on where you are,

00:38but also if you put into the

00:40website or the app your location,

00:41you'll get a lot more detailed

00:43information about what to expect

00:44with the forecast in your area.

00:46Specifically now it's also

00:47important to make a plan.

00:48Kind of treat this like a checklist, right?

00:50Alright, I know where I'm going to be.

00:52Do I have my plan?

00:53Do I know where my tornado safe location is?

00:55Do I have an emergency kit ready?

00:57Some of these things that it's

00:59going to do kind of now at the

01:00beginning of the severe weather season.

01:02So you're prepared for,

01:03you know, months to come now.

01:04It's also important to be able to be flexible.

01:07Can you adjust on the fly when you know?

01:09Things change.

01:09Maybe you are leaving your house a

01:11little bit later than you thought,

01:13leaving a destination to get home

01:15a little bit later than you thought.

01:16Things like that that could impact

01:18that plan that you already have set.

01:20Now I mentioned the tornado safe location.

01:21Here's an easy way to remember where to go.

01:24If there is a tornado warning,

01:25remember to duck.

01:26You want to go down to the lowest level.

01:28If that's a basement, great.

01:29If it's not the lowest level of your home,

01:31an interior room with no exterior

01:33windows or doors you want to be

01:34under something sturdy to protect yourself.

01:36Cover your head if you have a helmet.

01:38That's great.

01:38I know maybe it sounds a little silly,

01:40but it really can make a difference if

01:42you're hit by some of this severe weather.

01:44And make sure you stay in that shelter.

01:47Until the storm is passed until the

01:50tornado warning has been lifted.
