Police investigations suggest that revenge may have been the motive behind the fatal shooting of a man in Taman Setia Indah, Johor Baru, two months ago.  At a press conference on Thursday (March 27) at the state police headquarters, Johor police chief Comm Datuk M. Kumar revealed that the murder, which occurred on January 8 at a restaurant, was linked to tensions between rival secret societies. 00:00On 8 January 2025, a shooting took place in Setia Park, Kedai Kopi, in Setia Park, Indah, Johor Bahru,

00:19where a 40-year-old local man was shot dead.

00:25According to the investigation, the Police Contingent of Johor has set up a Task Force,

00:35led by the Chief of the Johor Criminal Investigation Department, Senior Assistant Commissioner, Mr. O. Chuan Huat,

00:43and assisted by the teams I mentioned earlier, from JSJ Bukit Aman, JSJ IPD Johor Bahru Selatan, Johor Bahru Utara, and IPD Sri Alam.

00:54The Task Force has begun to organize its operations.

00:58And from 8 January 2025 to 17 March 2025,

01:05the team has identified several targets that are suspected to be involved in the shooting case.

01:14As a result of the information and investigation, on 8 March 2025, around 3.10 am,

01:23in the Setia Park area, the Police have identified one of the suspected suspects

01:32involved in the shooting case.

01:34And in the effort to catch the shooting incident,

01:40the Police have managed to nab the suspect,

01:45who is a 64-year-old local citizen.

01:51According to the incident, the Police have also seized 10 pistols from the suspect who was shot dead.

02:00On the same day of the shooting incident,

02:046 local citizens have been arrested in the Johor Bahru area,

02:10aged between 48 and 66 years old,

02:14suspected to be involved in the shooting case that took place on 8 January 2025.

02:22In addition, as a result of the information and investigation,

02:26on 17 March 2025,

02:293 more suspects, aged between 36 and 62 years old, have been arrested.

02:39And in the arrest, the Police have also seized 10 pistols,

02:44together with 2 groups,

02:46which contained 15 bullets.

02:49The Police investigation found that,

02:52from the 2 pistols that were seized,

02:55one of the pistols was used by the suspect in the shooting incident on 8 January 2025,

03:05in the Setia Indah Park area.

03:07All 9 suspects have a record of drug possession and crime,

03:13and are currently being held under Section 117,

03:18until 30 March 2025.

03:22The investigation is carried out under Section 302 of the Penal Code,

03:27Section 8 of the Penalty Act of 1971,

03:33Section 8A of the Penalty Act of 1960,

03:39Section 36 of the Penalty Act of 1960,

03:43and Section 39A2 of the Penalty Act of 1952.

03:49The Johor Police gave a warning,

03:52to all parties,

03:53to fully hand over the investigation of this case to the Police,

03:58and not to take legal action.

04:02As a result of the investigation,

04:04I believe that,

04:05the shooting incident on 8 January 2025,

04:10has been resolved with these arrests.

04:13Other than that,

04:15we can also ask the public,

04:18to continue to disseminate information,

04:21about any criminal activity,

04:24that took place in Johor,

04:27to ensure that Johor is safe and sound,

04:32and to carry out daily matters, including business.

04:38We believe that there are elements of a group,

04:42that is why I gave a warning,

04:44firmly,

04:46hand it over to the Police.
